Are we watching the same videos? The dynamic range isn't good it's just bias towards shadows. It's way over exposing the highlights and bright areas constantly. I would call this dynamic range underwhelming
@@anthonyfpvminiquad1728 Fair point about the bright areas (aperture bursting), but the bleed from those areas is nothing like it is in other FPV cams at night. We aren't comparing FPV cams to GoPros, we are comparing Apples to Apples. @6:05 when he turns from the very dark backyard to the windows and back to the backyard, it adjusts quickly from grainy to more pixel data then back again without blinding. There's a good amount of bleed present from the windows but nothing gets unfliably blown out or dark. I'd call it gosh darn impressive low light handling for an FPV cam.
I look forward to the day when I get a peaceful, constitutionally-approved vote on who runs all these government agencies. FAA, ATF, IRS, FBI, CIA...with all the serious crime going on in this country and they're worried about a guy on TH-cam flying a tiny quad in his back yard at night.
They're not worried about it at all. As long as we keep on following their fascist desires voluntarily, they have not a single worry. They pass that fear onto us just like all criminals do.
I like how they say you can't fly on your property we own from center of earth to space ours they decided they would make a law which they cannot do to take it. Now took 200 ft of hobbyist guy space when they could have went up 200 wouldn't have hurt planes or helis
Good camera. I live 10 miles out, fly under a canopy of trees, and it's illegal, lol of course being licensed I don't fly at night😅 I guess I understand why you can't fly under your trees at night in your backyard since theres always that chance an airplane will do a low pass through your back yard, and be brought down by a whoop.🤪
If someone could get close to the level of detail and latency that the O3 provides with their 100fps 1080p modes, I would definitely sign up! Unfortunately, DJI is about 2 steps ahead of everyone else still. 720p is just too much of a drop in image quality, not to mention 60fps vs 100fps with their goggles.
Thanks Nick! I had to mount mine under the frame because my 4" was too crammed for space. Not recommended .... but it won't be up against my power inputs or ribbon cable for the stack. If anyone was wondering, the Walksnail VRX does work with Fatshark Attitude V6. It's just standard definition in the goggles.

The low light, footage is similar to the Caddx polar nano ; ). Great review. The comprehensive measurements are always a nice touch. I do not plan to invest in the Walksnail system, it is still a great review for those thinking of investing in the Walksnail system.
I am not sure what type of flights yours would fall under, but you can legally fly at night now recreationally if you fly under the correct CBO rules. FPVFC and FTCA both allow it if you use anti-collision lights and FTCA does not require lights if you are already flying in a well lit area such as under stadium lights. You should look into it in their safety guidelines because their rules are what the FAA goes by now.
Nice review, thanks for the vid. Having gone with HDZero it's still nice to see imporvements in competing systems, keeps everyone improving and inovating theirs as the circle completes and renews. Cheers!
not sure what it's like in USA but in Canada we are aloud to fly at night as long as we have lights on our drone. if you can see the lights you have visual line of sight. pretty nifty.
its cool they are making a night vision camera. I still have a foxeer starlight 2 toothless camera on an analog system i use for night vision, but this would be fantastic if they could just drop the weight a few grams i'll build a night vision HD whoop!
Better antenna mount/securing. Better mounting options for the vtx. Direct solder and ability to route the wiring. Cheaper then the 1st vtx. You'd almost think I just ordered a pro kit. O wait, I just did. Now the new challenge is how to mount the longer cam in my existing Walksnail set ups (nordfpv5 and Nazgul5 V2) o well, off to wait for 3d prints to pop up. Great vid as always!
Just started flying a snail this week, and I love it so far, but I have only analog to compare. Seems like a total miss by caddx to require the vtx be powered to read storage. There is a power lead on the USB , does it even use it? Maybe a madstech question
I suspect thepower requirement to read the on board storage is greater than 5v from usb. the DJI 03 reads internal storage from USB though. So something for Walksnail to do next :)
Hi Nick, Great video and review of the walksnail Avatar V2, I have been looking at the HDZERO system and walksnail system, and this is definitely looking great. Thanks again for the video and information about the walksnail Avatar V2😊
@Nick Burns at 5:54 the light on the upper corner of your house, its infrared. Thats why its being picked up by the avatar, maybe a security camera? I know my security cams get picked up at night from anything with an infrared sensor or my PVS14 night vision.
It kinda looks like a vista to me, in terms of quality and performance. The 60fps dji camera seems like it performs the same in low light. Not sure I'm convinced to put all my money into walksnail yet, the 1s board is looking good though!
Great video Nick. The cost from Caddx is really great compared to other brands, I'm surprised Walksnail isn't more popular. Weight at 30g is a bit high so I'm hoping the new camera will run on whoop vtx and maybe we can lose the backplate.
Hey Nick, thx for your Review! I’m about to build a TKS Rocket Race and I’m thinking about switching to WS. Do you think this new night camera and 1S lite board will do the job on that build?
The rocket race isn't 2 layer friendly. The props will likely hit the walksnail board. The echo25 is likely a better choice when adding a second layer. The echo20 might work but I have not done a two layer build with that frame.

Great video, thanks. I was wondering if this Pro kit will work with my Walksnail VRX and HDZERO goggles? I know the HDzero goggles only go up to 100fps, does this kit have a 100fps or just a 60/120fps? Will I be forced to use the 60 fps? if so, perhaps I should get the V2 kit cause I know that one does 100fps.
I wish they'd gone for an SD card onboard. So much easier, and faster unloading from a card reader...Plus we still have to power up to pull files..🤔😳🙄😳🇬🇧
me too. while people are concerned about night flying I just wish they would make a system that would handle freestyle flying and not just fixed wing flying. in 20 days I lost two vtx and camera in a slightly more forced landing, including yesterday the sensor of my last nano camera broke in a landing. things that never happened to me in analogue and 1 year of hdzero. i am disappointed with walsknail v1.
