I had no idea he died that's sad at least he was a great scientist to have a good absence of wisdom and integrity he was quite intelligent I'd say.
I got the pleasure of meeting John Hurt back in 2011 at a comic- con he was a such a nice guy with time to talk to his fans.
I always loved when he goes, “Hitler actually died in 1945…”

What is really funny is Manning. In Hellboy golden army he always calls Abe Sapien fish stick. “Mr fish stick we haft to talk”.
What I love about this scene is how fluidly they introduced Hellboy, Abe and the BPRD history without making it cringy like using the phrase “As you know” or over explaining and the way the 2019 movie does. It’s phenomenal writing and acting to say the least

@@BawonoSA173 The purpose of Myers was to act an audience surrogate. After the first film he was needed anymore.
tbh - he was purely a plot device for introducing a world through eyes of someone as inexperienced as us -> therefore asking the same questions we want to ask and showing us around. He was no longer needed in second installment and it was so much better without him. His character was literally us in this world - inexperienced, unimportant, shy and therefore annoying, as even the main character (Hellboy) didnt like him, therefore it was suggested that we shouldnt like him as well.
This right here...is how you properly introduce Hellboy. There’s so much build up, so many hints presented that are given as a taste for what’s to come, then when he finally shows up, you are greeted with the first line uttered from Hellboy, “I hate those comic books. They never get the eyes right.” And you are like “Oh man! I’m gonna love this guy!” Now why am I making this a big deal? Well... (spoilers)
The 2019 reboot gave us a very poor introduction to the character. The movie just opens up with Hellboy. He just shows up. No anticipation, no set up, it just opens with him driving a truck and bickering with his dad on the phone. Very underwhelming and gives the audience a very decreasing chance of caring about him.

Also this Professor Broom has much more charm, warmth and gravitas than the reboot's version. I appreciate them trying a different approach to the character and his relationship with Hellboy in the reboot and they had a decent moment or two, but John Hurt's version was still much more compelling to watch and I really cared when he died. The new Broom was ultimately kind of a dick and despite their attempts to make it seem like he owned up to his shortcomings as a father at the very end, his death left me feeling nothing.

This hellboy IS hellboy. Ron Perlman is the perfect character. And John Hurt can't be replaced, that voice and his acting was grade A...

Even though he didn't like Meyers, Hellboy was slowly warming up to him. Shows his passion towards humans.
Then had him transfered to the Antartic.
This is one of the best movies ever. It stands alone. I have it on prime and watched it again after a long time. The story and the cinematography and cgi are at the very top. A real visual impact in every scene. Love this movie.
The reason the cgi is so good is because there isn’t much cgi at all. Most of it is practical effects.
All things considered, Agent Myers was very calm first seeing Abe. 😅

Their lair was pretty hardcore and abe the fish guy was very incredibly smart and uniquely weirdly talkative but kinda badass...and a very cool character as long with hell boy an the others.

I'm more used to Doug Jones's voice rather than David Hyde Pierce.
I thought it was Doug Jones who played him but Hyde Pierce voiced him. I liked his voice, it gave him a gentle soul vibe cause that's what Abe is really. You could sit with him and he could talk to you about anything

At 2:02, you can see behind them the brief on-screen appearance of Roger the Homunculus. I read online that he was in this scene so I immediately had to check that out. Along with Abe & Liz, Roger was another member of the BPRD/Hellboy team.

Kind of in the middle. Right over Professor Broom's shoulder - looks like a mummified guy in a glass tube next to the door they walked in through. That's almost exactly what he looks like in the comic, a big shriveled guy.

Imagine if Marvel gave Del Toro the next iteration of the AVENGERS ie AVENGERS: SECRET WARS!? If they gave him a script he could work with, he would direct the shit out of it, and we'd get the best practical effects for the SKRULLS money can buy!

Man, Perlman was born to play this role!
The way that Del Toro directed this movie convinced me that he's uniquely suited to making a good Lovecraft movie that's actually scary and actually does the source material justice.
i just love that they randomly show us the spear of longinus and then never take us back there, just a tiny bit of lore that we can do with as we see fit.
John Hurt was so good in any, and everything. A true chameleon. I miss him.

John thought he was just anigher agent in training but what he didnt realize was he was in training to be Brooms replacement not Clays.
Its why Hellboys and Johns relationsbip is so important. Wish rhey kept him in the second movie

Del Toro was inspired by the creature of the Black Lagoon and he himself has come forth and stated that the films are not related and that the characters couldn't be further apart form each other. IF you want to learn about the character Abe form the Hellboy series I suggest you get familiarized with the works of Mike Mignola first instead of making half assed pulled from your rectum claims. stupid

I’ve watched this movie so many times i want more Hellboy movies the new one wasn’t even bad just seem rushed.
The spear shown on the glass shelf on the corridor is the same spear used on the movie "Constantine"
I’m genuinely wondering if it’s a protocol for new agents who are going to be meeting Hellboy to at least see Abe or a monster that BPRD captured recently because if you’ve got a religious person on their first day their gonna lose faint or lose their mind over seeing HB(a demon) before any of the other weird stuff
Cause like it seems like Clay was making sure John had seen something weird before being introduce to Hellboy, just so that he doesn’t have to worry about dealing with whatever Myer’s reaction might’ve been
I think one of the thing I love about Rons delivery of hellboy is that his tone of voice is something like hellboy, an I don't mean that as in yeah the movie of course you would, like really his tone of voice fits how hellboy talks in the comics, the guy always has a very meh tone to everything that happens around him, like he seen and face so many super natural creatures. That the second some witch, cult or elder god comes along he kind of just board or not even shock when it comes bumping in the night an ron capture that tone pretty well with his voice.
For some reason I always preferred David Hyde Pierce as Abe. Once you make the subconscious connection to Niles, it gives him an extra dimension...
