There's a lot of character depth in this scene. Hellboy quickly picks up (all be it while drunk) Abe falling for Princess Nuala and instead of making fun of him for it he gives him moral support by giving him a beer and singing along. This shows that they're more than just colleagues at work or partners in crime, they're brothers.
In the comic they where conducting experiments on Abe when they met, first thing Hellboy did was pulling him out of the tank and say: "let's get you a sandwich"

No matter what, practical suit is MUCH MORE REALISTIC than CGI. Yeah, Hellboy & Abe looks so real with that suit. Sure, CGI nowadays looks great, but just does not get the "realistic" look.

It's turns out interesting situation: Abe has just found his love, Hellboy has already found his love for a long time, and Johann has lost his love. If the 3th film came out, then a similar scene from the song could be added. Demon, amphibian and ghost in suit just sit and sing about love.

I love action movies and that's part of the reason I was drawn to this movie as a kid, but as an adult I find myself rewatching clips like this way more. Scenes like this really feel like the heart of the Hellboy movies, just like the scenes where Red is spending time with Liz or in the first movie when he's mourning Professor Bruttenholms death

Personal opinion, but to me, this might be one of the greatest movie scenes from the last 20 years.
