This is such a hipster take. Check out Corridor Digital's channel and see how much absolutely amazing CGI is being used. You only notice it when it's bad. Plus, practical effects have a significantly longer history and time to improve.

@@aerthreepwood8021 I think it's more that a lot of people grew up watching movies that had practical effects and so movies that use them end up having this irreplaceable charm to them, because it reminds them of their childhood. I'm like that. I know that CGI is often very good and I often get very impressed by it because I like good CGI too, but when there's a lot of practical effects in a movie, I can't help but feeling pleasantly nostalgic and so I've a tendency of liking those movies more for it.
Aer Threepwood Corridor Digital has said several times that they love the combination of practical and digital effects though, even if they are a CGI-company 😇 They REALLY love the way the new Mad Max was made, with a LOT of practical effects, and just using CGI to enhance the scenes (rather than relying solely on CGI) 😊 Also also, most directors would NEVER put Doug Jones in a MoCap-suit (he is the master of prosthetics-acting)
Pretty sure the wording is deliberate; they let you think for a moment that HB eats cats rather than digs them. Pays off in the sequel, of course, when HB meets a creature that does have a thing for cats in the eating sense, and is not amused :)
Fed six times per day, giant platters of pancakes and other such sized portions. Does he eat all that every 2-3 hours? Maybe he doesn’t sleep so he can eat every 4 hours? How long does it take to eat all that? How much time does he spend pooping? Even if I could keep a steady pace eating all that food, it would take like 2 hours to eat all those pancakes. Which would almost mean he eats constantly, right? Yet the only things he eats in the whole movie are a couple cookies and the butt of a cigar.

This movie holds such a special place in my heart it was my introduction into a lifelong love of hell boy and legit rewatched it just recently and it absolutely still holds up for early 2000s

You do know most pineapple grenades like this one (I'm not a entirely sure which model the Americans used in ww2) have a lever, until you let go of said lever, no fuse will be ignited, meaning, the grenade will not blow up. The pin is just there to hold the handle in place
The thing with the rubber band(s) on the arm is a real skill taught by real therapists to real people in reality (that's a lot of "real"s). It's to prevent people from doing themselves worse harm, like cutting themselves, leaving long-term marks or even scars. Since rubber bands hurt, but don't leave anything for longer than a few minutes, it's an accepted way of self-harm, since, well, self-harm works, sadly, if you're feeling down or having a breakdown.
The woman has so many powers but she's seen as either the lover or the baby maker-- and the pirate calls her a "little girl" twice. Also, good luck finding any non-white actors in the movie.

What Abe is doing is called Object reading or Psychometry. The ability to make relevant associations from an object of unknown history by making physical contact with that object.
The real crime here is that Abe shouldn't even have those powers. They properly belong to Kraus, who doesn't show up until the second movie, but for some reason they decided to combine the two characters in the first one or something? I dunno. The thing that kills you with most explosives like grenades is not the fire or heat but the kinetic energy or shrapnel if you are further away. If liz detonated the grenades right next to her maybe she wouldn't burn but every bone in her body would be broken and she would be impaled by metal shrapnel

I use rubber bands, still bite my nails like crazy and pull hair out. It gets obsessive and its really hard to stop. In a way it moves you from one to the other, then a stressful situation occurs and you do it all. Useful if you are wrapped in a bubble and never leave home. But hey works for some people cant complain.

If fire girl had a history of self-harm before getting therapy, and her choice of self-harm inflicts greater pain/damage than a couple of elastic bands, it is actually a good strategy to decrease the amount of self-harm she is doing. Self-harm does provide the self-harmer with some sort of satisfaction or release, be it is emotional/mental/physical, and can be highly addictive. If she is struggling to stop self-harming, combining therapy with less destructive/damaging forms of self-harm is a step in the right direction.
It's used in cognitive behaviour therapy. The point is to make yourself aware of the dysfunctional thoughts, so you can change them - this is of course a simplified description...
I'm glad that somebody wrote this instead of me having to break it down because breaking it down is kind of triggering. This was very well thought out and explained, however I hated how the movie handled it. It is absolutely a self-help mechanism for people that self-harm, but they did not establish that she was indeed inflicting harm on herself. As far as we are made aware, she has trauma because of her powers going haywire in the past, but there was no evidence of her inflicting pain on herself, so I didn't like them involving a very recognizable coping mechanism for those who do self-harm without giving any context or evidence to support the use of it.
1:34 just pointing this out, grenades don't go off because you pulled the pin. The pin is just a safety device. You can pull the pin on as many grenades as you want, as long as you can keep the "spoon" depressed.
*FarTooManyPizzasForYou* Look up the design of grenades used in 1944 and you'll see that the pin holds a spring-loaded lever in place. The timer doesn't start until the lever is released, setting off the percussion cap. You know what else can keep the lever in place? Somebody holding it down. By your argument, the grenade should go off as soon as the pin is pulled out, since the lever has been held down for a long time already. Considering that there are Mk2 grenades existing today which could still be live, 60 years after they stopped being made, this claim is patently ridiculous.
Not as good as the comics, but still good nonetheless, with the exception of the whole love interest angle with Hellboy and Liz, which was just stupid and unnecessary since he viewed her more like a sister in the comics.

There are similar situations in the movies to comic story elements, but yes, on the whole, the films are there own thing. Nonetheless, being that both movies are based strongly on the comic universe, then comparisons can be validly made.

Not trying to nitpick here, but you twice described Abe as having the ability of Telekinesis. That's the power to move objects with the mind. Telepathy would be he's reading people's thoughts and/or projecting his thoughts into people. Neither of which I recall seeing him do. Now ESP, that's where he looks like what he's using, where he gets extra information psychically. Now whether by feeling it coming off of the guy or by touching various objects. Basically think of it as heat, the more hot it is the better you can feel it from further away, so in that clip where Abe is in the tank he's feeling those waves and can glean that information. When it's "colder" he has to get closer or touch to feel, hence why he touched the door or the sword.

Considering the fact that combustion only hurts you because it transfers heat energy to your body, it makes absolutely no sense that he would be fireproof but still feel pain from heat. That's like you wearing an oven mitt and touching a warm lightbulb and feeling pain.
Nah, this movie just doesn't ever lay down it's fire rules since the fire would, in theory, be hot to his touch and burn clothes away as well. I also have no justification for making a total ex-machina character like Abe. He seems to have a ton of leniency on the nature of his powers and it never really is made clear what the actual technique he uses is (touching doors and walls or them directly) or when he needs to read-up on something vs touching it and understanding it.
Actually the introduction of the rosary at the begining of the film pays off when Father is killed and its all that Hellboy have left of him, and is the artefact that reminds Hellboy of who he is when he goes full Hell Boy. You like to nippick, so do I sir, so do I

The restraint on Hellboy have ancient magical runes on them to prevent him from breaking free hence his inability to break it. That said, there should be at least a sin added to the counter for a convenient plot device custom-fitted for the exact size and dimensions of a grown Hellboy to render the protagonist of the movie incapable of fighting back until the absolute very last possible moment in which said protagonist fights back, rendering said plot device restraint entirely useless because its only purpose was to create fake BS tension.

So just gonna put it out there. Liz's power is not controlled by her emotions. It is fueled by them. When she's terrified, angry, or just plain happy, her pyrokinesis can manifest in different ways. A gentle flame to wash over her and Hellboy when she's feeling contented/relieved. A directed blast towards a specific enemy when she's pissed off. A radial burst with no control what-so-ever when she's afraid for her life, or the life of someone she loves. Her emotions power her abilities. Here's the thing. She's desperately aware of Meyers' lack of flame resistance. She can control her powers enough to keep them from erupting from her the moment Hellboy gets overpowered by the Samael demons. But what she can't do is focus. Because she loves Hellboy. Because this is a new situation for her. Because she's afraid of killing Meyers. Because she's torn between two love interests. Or even because the situation was unexpected. The point is, she panics. And panic needs to be controlled or else her powers won't be. She's holding back the fire until Meyers hits her because she's trying her best not to murder him by proxy. Once he slaps her, she isn't calm. She's focused. Small increments of pain, when sought by the recipient, can help with focus. This is why some buddhist temples will crack you across the back with a bamboo rod if your posture is shite. It's also why a lot of people get into BDSM. But that's another story for another time. The point is. She isn't asking him to slap her so she can calm down. She's asking him to slap her so she can focus on her anger towards the threat to Hellboy, and even though she isn't so controlled that Meyers could just stand behind her, she is able to control her powers enough that once he takes shelter, her fireball won't engulf his corner of the room.
I really loved the characters (barring the joker) but was not at all intrigued by the entire enchantress plot and felt they could of had a much more interesting villain or at least had more than 1 mission as a team lol
Hellboy touched his scorched horns with his normal hand, hence why the fire was on his rock hand's fingers. Meaning the skin on the normal hand could burn, and nerves being in his fingertips send a single to his brain saying contract your hand away from danger, while a rock doesn't have nerves and allows him to light his cigar with his rock fingers. But, you don't pay attention much to the movie so much as to anything you want to add sins. Don't get me wrong, I like the sins, but you have to at least understand what you're looking at.

This channel has really gone down hill. I remember these videos being full of real plot holes, inconsistencies, and gaps in logic. No it's just you nitpicking every frame and line. Yeah he had a rosary, he had no real idea what he was dealing with. Yeah he was walking around with cancer, that can happen. If you pulled out every bit of world building or unexplained/over explained language you would really have zero movie left.
I hardly count "Peter Parker uses Bing" as a plot hole from the first sinned video. If you don't like this entertainment, leave. Go watch vsauce or something for your logic.

Plus, because the whole plan is getting Hellboy to unlock the Gates of Hell and jumpstart Apocalypse. Sammael is essentially the distraction so they can weaken and misdirect BPRD (and possibly the bait so they could follow them afterwards and find out exactly where they were located) and the muscle to contain Hellboy. 9:49 - Yes, but their Tank (i.e. Hellboy) nearly died from blood loss and got Facehugged (Sammaelhugged?)? He has a Healing Factor of sorts, but we can guess it takes a few hours of rest? 11:23 - Hellboy didn't kill it, the thing was just dumb enough to stay still while the subway train came. Plus, can you think up a method through which Hellboy could just restrain Cthulhu's lovechild with Pan's Labyrinth here, in the middle of civilians and kittens, and then drag it back quietly to the HQ? 12:00 - Ah, super strength? Hand made of unholy stone that probably made a hole in the wall and scared some poor tenant? 12:13 - You do realize this thing is a zombie kept alive by a lovecraftian abomination, right? The mechanics don't keep him alive, just enhance his body so he can deflect bullets with blade tonfas like nobody's biz. Him getting up despite being naked isn't such a big deal. 12:52 - That's not the funeral home. That's the entrance to the BRPD's building. They're taking his body away to be buried, and Hellboy can't come cuz he ain't supposed to exist. 13:23 - Why do you assume he doesn't know where to go? Hellboy summoned him back to life explicitly because he knows stuff, and he's just guiding them until he gets thrown off the bridge. At no point does the movie state he is no longer useful. 14:32 - She's learning to CONTAIN it, because she's afraid of going Carrie White on people. It is such a shame that Ron Perlman isn't more recognized. He's a good actor (although sometimes in bad roles in bad movies). And he was probably born to play Hellboy. Can't imagine anyone else.

Wesley Cagle They're all jokes. And obviously, this is long running one--but I get the sense that if you asked Jeremy or Chris, they would legitimately tell you they have an issue with narration. At least the frequency in which it is used. Too expositional or something of that nature. A lot of their sins, while satirical, have a foundation in their real critique of film.

Wesley Wallace It is quite literally a hybrid of humor and critique. Their sins are written comedically, and they follow certain tropes--but in the end, many of the things they sin a movie for (especially if it's done repeatedly) are talking points that bother them in real life. Jeremy has said as much, and it's pretty obvious from the context of the work. It's meant to be laughed at, yes, and some of the sins are complete jokes entirely. But overall, many things transcend the satire and reflect their own opinions.
And where do they come from? I don't see them on the outside of his sleeve, but they're on the back of his hands, when they open up. if they're inside his sleeves, why don't they cut his sleeves in half? they swing out, in an arc; they don't spring straight out. After dropping his gun, you can clearly see the mechanisms on the back of his hands.
Don't get my wrong I dig this channel. I also love this movie and i think that its important to realize that it isn't perfect. is it cheesy? yes. does it make sense all the time? no. but is it still fucking awesome? HELL YEAH. I think people need to four more on the positive things and less on the bad. This channel is a lot of fun, but realistically I like CinemaWins a bit more.
Liking a movie doesn't make it good. They make jokes a lot but the criticisms are genuine judgements of it's shortcomings. Know the difference between personal feelings and factual criticisms. I like a lot of bad films, but I'll never say that they're 'fucking awesome'. And in case you ask, yeah I actually enjoy this film - well I did the last time I watched it a few years ago.
I didn't know CinemaWins existed until I read your comment. I went to that channel and watched the Deadpool one, and goddamn was it BORING. Holy crap. I know what was awesome about Deadpool; I watched it. To me, CinemaSins is funny because of the intentional nit-picking, the "that's racist", "scene does not include a lap dance"/whoever" is not my girlfriend in this scene", and so on. Then again, I'm one of the people who populates IMDb's trivia and goofs pages, so these videos consist of things I notice and want to know if other people noticed. Sometimes Jeremy misses things, though. But CinemaWins just wasn't funny or enjoyable to me.

The thing with the rubber band(s) on the arm is a real skill taught by real therapists to real people in reality (that's a lot of "real"s). It's to prevent people from doing themselves worse harm, like cutting themselves, leaving long-term marks or even scars. Since rubber bands hurt, but don't leave anything for longer than a few minutes, it's an accepted way of self-harm, since, well, self-harm works, sadly, if you're feeling down or having a breakdown.

I use rubber bands, still bite my nails like crazy and pull hair out. It gets obsessive and its really hard to stop. If fire girl had a history of self-harm before getting therapy, and her choice of self-harm inflicts greater pain/damage than a couple of elastic bands, it is actually a good strategy to decrease the amount of self-harm she is doing. Self-harm does provide the self-harmer with some sort of satisfaction or release, be it is emotional/mental/physical, and can be highly addictive. If she is struggling to stop self-harming, combining therapy with less destructive/damaging forms of self-harm is a step in the right direction.
Guys this is an actual therapy technique. I happen to use it and I can say that it works. It’s called behavior modification and grounding for me.
It's used in cognitive behaviour therapy. The point is to make yourself aware of the dysfunctional thoughts, so you can change them - this is of course a simplified description...

This was very well thought out and explained, however I hated how the movie handled it.
It is absolutely a self-help mechanism for people that self-harm, but they did not establish that she was indeed inflicting harm on herself. As far as we are made aware, she has trauma because of her powers going haywire in the past, but there was no evidence of her inflicting pain on herself, so I didn't like them involving a very recognizable coping mechanism for those who do self-harm without giving any context or evidence to support the use of it.

By your argument, the grenade should go off as soon as the pin is pulled out, since the lever has been held down for a long time already. Considering that there are Mk2 grenades existing today which could still be live, 60 years after they stopped being made, this claim is patently ridiculous.

There are similar situations in the movies to comic story elements, but yes, on the whole, the films are there own thing. Nonetheless, being that both movies are based strongly on the comic universe, then comparisons can be validly made.

Not trying to nitpick here, but you twice described Abe as having the ability of Telekinesis. That's the power to move objects with the mind. Telepathy would be he's reading people's thoughts and/or projecting his thoughts into people. Neither of which I recall seeing him do. Now ESP, that's where he looks like what he's using, where he gets extra information psychically. Now whether by feeling it coming off of the guy or by touching various objects. Basically think of it as heat, the more hot it is the better you can feel it from further away, so in that clip where Abe is in the tank he's feeling those waves and can glean that information. When it's "colder" he has to get closer or touch to feel, hence why he touched the door or the sword.

Nah, this movie just doesn't ever lay down it's fire rules since the fire would, in theory, be hot to his touch and burn clothes away as well. I also have no justification for making a total ex-machina character like Abe. He seems to have a ton of leniency on the nature of his powers and it never really is made clear what the actual technique he uses is (touching doors and walls or them directly) or when he needs to read-up on something vs touching it and understanding it.

In Hellboy, Hellboy said to John "Let's go fight some monsters." When they were in his room. But, then, when John was shooting Samuel with his pistol, Hellboy said "Nobody helps me! It's my job!" Don't you guys think that Cinemasins could've sinned that part, too?
The restraint on Hellboy have ancient magical runes on them to prevent him from breaking free hence his inability to break it. That said, there should be at least a sin added to the counter for a convenient plot device custom-fitted for the exact size and dimensions of a grown Hellboy to render the protagonist of the movie incapable of fighting back until the absolute very last possible moment in which said protagonist fights back, rendering said plot device restraint entirely useless because its only purpose was to create fake BS tension.

So just gonna put it out there. Liz's power is not controlled by her emotions. It is fueled by them. When she's terrified, angry, or just plain happy, her pyrokinesis can manifest in different ways. A gentle flame to wash over her and Hellboy when she's feeling contented/relieved. A directed blast towards a specific enemy when she's pissed off. A radial burst with no control what-so-ever when she's afraid for her life, or the life of someone she loves. Her emotions power her abilities.
Here's the thing. She's desperately aware of Meyers' lack of flame resistance. She can control her powers enough to keep them from erupting from her the moment Hellboy gets overpowered by the Samael demons. But what she can't do is focus. Because she loves Hellboy. Because this is a new situation for her. Because she's afraid of killing Meyers. Because she's torn between two love interests. Or even because the situation was unexpected. The point is, she panics. And panic needs to be controlled or else her powers won't be. She's holding back the fire until Meyers hits her because she's trying her best not to murder him by proxy.
Once he slaps her, she isn't calm. She's focused. Small increments of pain, when sought by the recipient, can help with focus. This is why some buddhist temples will crack you across the back with a bamboo rod if your posture is shite. It's also why a lot of people get into BDSM. But that's another story for another time.
The point is. She isn't asking him to slap her so she can calm down. She's asking him to slap her so she can focus on her anger towards the threat to Hellboy, and even though she isn't so controlled that Meyers could just stand behind her, she is able to control her powers enough that once he takes shelter, her fireball won't engulf his corner of the room.
I was gonna suggest suicide squad, but then I saw it and realized it would just be the whole movie

Did you watch the movie, there 1st mission was to save Amanda Wolar and 2nd was to stop Enchantress plan.
Hellboy touched his scorched horns with his normal hand, hence why the fire was on his rock hand's fingers. Meaning the skin on the normal hand could burn, and nerves being in his fingertips send a single to his brain saying contract your hand away from danger, while a rock doesn't have nerves and allows him to light his cigar with his rock fingers. But, you don't pay attention much to the movie so much as to anything you want to add sins. Don't get me wrong, I like the sins, but you have to at least understand what you're looking at.

1:09 - You really think the guys fighting in the mud knows everyone in Hitler's Super Nazi Friends? Plus, Kroenen is part of a secret supernatural group, something only anti-secret supernatural groups like the BRPD would know about. Alternatively, the general DID recognize him and is simply pointing him out to Trevor.
2:08 - In the middle of a fire fight against Ghostapo and Stupid Jetpack Hitlers? Especially when that something is a little red ape baby? Doubtful.

Plus, because the whole plan is getting Hellboy to unlock the Gates of Hell and jumpstart Apocalypse. Sammael is essentially the distraction so they can weaken and misdirect BPRD (and possibly the bait so they could follow them afterwards and find out exactly where they were located) and the muscle to contain Hellboy.
9:49 - Yes, but their Tank (i.e. Hellboy) nearly died from blood loss and got Facehugged (Sammaelhugged?)? He has a Healing Factor of sorts, but we can guess it takes a few hours of rest?
11:23 - Hellboy didn't kill it, the thing was just dumb enough to stay still while the subway train came. Plus, can you think up a method through which Hellboy could just restrain Cthulhu's lovechild with Pan's Labyrinth here, in the middle of civilians and kittens, and then drag it back quietly to the HQ?
12:00 - Ah, super strength? Hand made of unholy stone that probably made a hole in the wall and scared some poor tenant?
12:13 - You do realize this thing is a zombie kept alive by a lovecraftian abomination, right? The mechanics don't keep him alive, just enhance his body so he can deflect bullets with blade tonfas like nobody's biz. Him getting up despite being naked isn't such a big deal.
12:52 - That's not the funeral home. That's the entrance to the BRPD's building. They're taking his body away to be buried, and Hellboy can't come cuz he ain't supposed to exist.
13:23 - Why do you assume he doesn't know where to go? Hellboy summoned him back to life explicitly because he knows stuff, and he's just guiding them until he gets thrown off the bridge. At no point does the movie state he is no longer useful.
14:32 - She's learning to CONTAIN it, because she's afraid of going Carrie White on people. She only learns to unleash it like she does here in the sequel because she's no longer afraid.

What exactly is their big hangup on narration? Are we NEVER allowed to have it? For instance, wouldn't The Shawshank Redemption be a MUCH less impactful movie without Morgan Freeman's narration? Yes, Freeman kicks ass at it, but the fact remains: sometimes narration is okay in a movie.
Its a joke. A running gag in this channel. Don't try to go into depth about it, remember, This channel is satire.

Their sins are written comedically, and they follow certain tropes--but in the end, many of the things they sin a movie for (especially if it's done repeatedly) are talking points that bother them in real life. Jeremy has said as much, and it's pretty obvious from the context of the work. It's meant to be laughed at, yes, and some of the sins are complete jokes entirely. But overall, many things transcend the satire and reflect their own opinions.

Don't get my wrong I dig this channel. I also love this movie and i think that its important to realize that it isn't perfect. is it cheesy? yes. does it make sense all the time? no. but is it still fucking awesome? HELL YEAH. I think people need to four more on the positive things and less on the bad. This channel is a lot of fun, but realistically I like CinemaWins a bit more.
Liking a movie doesn't make it good. They make jokes a lot but the criticisms are genuine judgements of it's shortcomings. Know the difference between personal feelings and factual criticisms. I like a lot of bad films, but I'll never say that they're 'fucking awesome'. And in case you ask, yeah I actually enjoy this film - well I did the last time I watched it a few years ago.
I didn't know CinemaWins existed until I read your comment. I went to that channel and watched the Deadpool one, and goddamn was it BORING. Holy crap. I know what was awesome about Deadpool; I watched it. To me, CinemaSins is funny because of the intentional nit-picking, the "that's racist", "scene does not include a lap dance"/whoever" is not my girlfriend in this scene", and so on.
Then again, I'm one of the people who populates IMDb's trivia and goofs pages, so these videos consist of things I notice and want to know if other people noticed. Sometimes Jeremy misses things, though. But CinemaWins just wasn't funny or enjoyable to me.
GingerBagels I understand the differences between opinions and factual evidence and its why I love this channel, as I've said before. maybe its the positive thinking I have, but I am pretty accepting of movies, I love analyzing movies and I enjoying looking at different sides of things, so I believe the sites go hand in hand. In all honesty I just think CinemaWins feels deeper and I LOVE deep haha. and by the way, I think all movies have good in them! I mean some more good than others obviously. so me liking them proves they're good no? :D
Candice ecidnaC Yeah I feel what you mean, I just love the awesome details I don't notice sometimes in Wins and the deep breakdown at the end is so good. Anyway, different strokes for different folks. haha. Lets put it this way, I relate more to Wins, but Sins is funnier. just different. ya get me?
