Amazon's interests are de dependent on Rivians ability to deliver vehicles as promised. Amazon does not have controlling operations including profitability/costs of operation etc
I don't buy new cars, ever. Refuse to finance a new car. I buy used cars, 2 to 4 previous year models, preferrably under 60l miles. At that point, its depreciated enough to make sense buying, cash of course. I also buy crashed auction cars, repair and drive.
I'm 77 and have never bought a new car. Never will, even if I could afford one. The quality of cars for the last 30 years is amazing, especially the engines. I'm driving a 2000 Buick GS (supercharged). 210,000 miles, runs perfectly. Been on Mobil 1 since I bought it in 2018, no idea of oil before then, although I bought it from the original owner. Let someone else take the big depreciation hit. Granted, my parents bought new cars for most of their lives, but like you, kept it at least ten years (if those pieces of crap in the old days lasted that long.)
I think the biggest challenge for Lucid and Rivian is the fact both companies depend on cheap money in order to achieve their growth projections and with interest rates going up it is going to place a heavy burden for them to raise more capital and without capital they are doomed. Tesla was fortunate to be at this stage when interest rates were at historic lows which made the game of raising capital much easier.
First priority is increasing production. Rivian can spend 1.5 billion a quarter for 2 more years before running out of money, but they have to get production up to 50k/quarter. Instead of 5k.
Exactly my thought. Had Lucid / Rivian started when Tesla did, they would no doubt be better positioned to weather the imminent recession. Supply constraints will only increase costs further and reduce the burn time for Rivian's fast-dwindling cash moat. This bodes well for Ford / Tesla going forward. From a stock investment standpoint, I would sell all stock in Rivian / Lucid and invest on a dollar-cost average basis into Ford and Tesla throughout 2023. The price should double from current levels by 2024.
@@Mechulus Tesla stock is still way overpriced. Musks bubble is about to burst...which means he will be forced to sell further stock. Tesla will go down to maybe 10-20 USD
Rivian makes a compelling product. I hope they make it. They definitely have a good shot at it. They are burning thru cash right now, but Tesla went thru the same thing. Tesla didn’t have any competition, but demand is way higher for EV’s now. “Production is hard.” Elon Musk. Come on Rivian, you got this…
Tesla had zero competition and almost went tits up multiple times. With the economy going the way it is, it's going to take a miracle for Rivian and more so for lucid to survive.
@@airdogg1979 I don’t think Lucid has much of a chance… I wonder why hasn’t either of these companies tried to pick up Herbert Diess from VW? He’s available!
Rivian is backed by Amazon (17% of shares approx) and Lucid is backed by Saudi Arabia investment fund (70% plus of shares approx). That makes a huge difference with the other ev manufacturers struggling financially.
@@jalopy2472 you're making it sounds like throwing away a not so fresh bag of grapes. Not that easy my friend. Money is one thing but face is more important for most of these billionaires.
@@jalopy2472 No they wont, they'll simply throw more capital in to get more ownership. RJ Scaringe (Rivian CEO) is a smart and focused dude, and Bezos knows that. All they need is a smooth runway to scale. Unfortunately they're not going to get the peaceful low inflation decade that Tesla had from 2010-2020 but their backers know that if they have enough capital and enough time they can make it to profitability.
115,000 pre-orders at roughly $100k per unit is $11.5 BILLION in pending revenue, not including the Amazon truck orders. As long as Rivian can survive the interest rate increases, I imagine they're going to be a very large, successful company. In addition, I see Rivian trucks all over Orange County, CA. They have a huge fan base that will likely turn into a huge customer base.
@@coobay4786 I currently own and operate one car company. In contrast to your terrible suggestion, I am bullish on Rivian long term, however, I prefer to diversify my portfolio with a multitude of properties that I am bullish on. I also do not invest anything I can't afford to lose. Thank you for your attempt at input though.
Although they may be able to capture 11.5B based on simple math, they’re negative on costs/revenue. Their competition is going to get worse too, Ford, for example, is going to spend $50B on EV. That simply dwarfs Rivian; I wish them good luck.
Problem with Rivian is that it is hard to find service centers that are close to most people. You would have to ship your vehicle to them and wait, and wait, and have to have it shipped back to you.
This was something people said about Tesla for years. In practice it wasn't that bad at all even in the early days of the Model S. A ranger would come to you and check your car at your house. Or they would pick your car up themselves since it was part of the warranty. Startups offer great warranty to give comfort to their buyers. The very fact I was an early adopter with Tesla gave me 8 years battery warranty on unlimited mileage and free supercharging for life. I am quite sure Rivian has some promises towards their early adopters as well.
They actually will come to you for service and if it can't be fixed they have been know to give a loaner rivian. They have come to ke for a repair and a friend of mine got a loaner
It is true that early stage companies tend to show losses and burn through cash and so rely on investors to pony up to fund operations. If investors quit financing Rivian, then quite possibly someone will buy it as the truck has its merits, though in such a case the investors may get hosed. My guess is that Rivian trucks will continue to be made even if not as an independent company.
as an Amazon Driver, I can assure you that "Rivian DOES NOT make an excellent product!"...Their EDV's (Electric Delivery Vehicles) that were purchased by Amazon are a prime example of poor craftsmanship and non-existent Quality Control!
I previously worked With Rivian thru a 3rd Sourced Company. Rivian Has A Ton of work to do to get back on track!! Quality is not there in their product. And it’s ridiculous the way money is just thrown in the fire!! Between the Company I worked for and Rivian it was the worst work experience I Have Ever Takin Place in. Musk is right Rivian is in trouble Financially, and I really believe that if no changes are made it’s gonna be Lights Out!!
Prices keep rising because there are no lithium, nickel, cobalt reserves to support an EV world. The companies all want to grow but have no metals for batteries. It is a fairy dust industry. They think enough demand will make metals appear. The demand keeps going up, the Fed keeps demanding EVs , the cost of metals will continue to rise dramatically. I predict in 10 years the cost of EV batteries will mean the average car is $1/4 million. Instead of 2 or 3 or 4 cars per household, there will be one.
As long as people buy more than they can build their prices should be as high as possible from a business standpoint. They are in no shape or form able to produce as much as people want this car. Once they are in better shape they should slowly drop the price and introduce different models of their cars.
I think we need to take Musk with a grain of salt here, as Rivian is a competitor. Not a very direct one, as they currently make different types of vehicles, but if Rivian is successful, that could change. And yes, of course Rivian could fail. But they could also succeed, as Tesla did, by entering a high-demand market with a purpose-built brand new product and scaling well. Rivian’s competitors are really Ford, GM, and Chrysler (whenever they catch up), for the pickup, large SUV, and panel truck markets. Those three are trying, but they’re also dragging around the dying soon-to-be corpses of their legacy fossil fuel businesses - production facilities and sales pipelines that will die, union employees that need to be permanently dumped, new models to design and new production facilities to be built (just like Rivian), a bureaucracy and institutional knowledge built around vehicles that will be utterly obsolete in a decade, and a branding and culture and customer expectations built on a century or more of history of building something other than what they need to build now. Yes, Rivian might die. But I think it’s, at worst, no more likely than the chance that Ford or GM or Chrysler or Toyota or Honda or BMW or Volvo will die.
I love my Rivian...best vehicle I've ever owned. It's simply a joy to drive every time I get in it. A+, service team is top notch too. Amazing experience so far!
All new vehicles are a joy to drive. Let's see how you feel about driving a 10 year old Rivian. If it lasts that long! Good luck. Driving trucks are about longevity in general. They're supposed to be workhorses.
They're nice vehicles no doubt, but what he's trying to get at in the video is that rivian will go under if they don't manage their net profit margins and debt repayments
I've seen a few on the road and they look amazing. Despite some bad reviews and build quality issues, I'd still love to buy/have one.... but the price is way too high. The charging network isn't anywhere close to being ready for Rivian. There are many videos showing owners waiting 3 hours to charge their trucks. I can't wait that long on a journey! One video shows a guy paying $77 for a full charge for a 300-mile range! WTH! For half the price of a Rivian, I can get a fully loaded F150 (gas model) with a 500+ range and it'll cost me about $70 to fill up. Rivian has to reduce its prices. $100K plus is way too much.
@@keithstark1 I totally agree with you. I paid the $100 for a reservation spot on the F150 lightening. It was $40,000 for the XL and I selected the larger battery giving a range of 300 miles so my price was $55,000. Now it’s looking like $75,000! WTH. It’s BS. I’ve lost interest in EVs because of the price and difficulty and cost of charging. I think right now a hybrid is the way to go. I’m now looking at the jeep wrangler 4xe… but even that has issues. 🤷
I think they’ll make it. Even GM CEO Mary Barra has said they won’t be cash positive on EVs until at least 2025. This is typical for a revolution in new tech.
GM won't probably ever be cash positive on EVs, unless your name is Biden and you believe anything he says. GM will be lucky to have a solid EV by 25, but more than likely 28-30. EVs are hard and even Ford is struggling, but are now gaining traction and are years ahead of GM. I would expect GM to go bankrupt before any other car manufacture at this point.
I think the problem is Rivian and Lucid don’t have enough cash to make it to 2025. They will need to raise lots of cash while lowering costs to survive. If they can’t lower costs who will give them cash to throw in the fire?
@@copycatt2579 Rivian has enough cash reserves to make it through 2025 on their current burn rate. Their mass-market, high margin vehicle comes in 2026. They'll be fine.
I hope Rivian succeeds. I like their product, particularly their SUV, and I don't really like SUVs or electric vehicles. If I ever do buy one, the Rivian would be on the short list to consider.
not a sole cares what Maindrain does or thinkg this isn'ta bout you and what you MIGHT buy at some point. Hypothetical thinking about someone who's not an expert in any way is hardly of any value to know about
I think Lucid will go under because it’s a small margin. It’s a luxury car however there so many to choose from in that market. Rivian is really the only one making large SUVs, Vans, and Trucks. The issue is their price is in the field of Land Rover which only going to be the upper class buying them. I love the R1T and I think it’s one of the best looking EV truck so far
@@philkipnis740 I think Ford is a good bet because they helped along with Amazon at the start of the company. As much as I like the Lightning the R1T is a much better truck and with the SUV Rivian has I think Ford may want to add it to there line up.
Lucid has incredible efficiency and they command large profit margins on each vehicle for their upper tiered Airs. It's the models like the Touring and the Pure they will need to sell a ton of. Their range is what makes them so attractive right now. To actually have a car that can be used by more people without as much compromise.
Its scary to buy a car thats $75k+, then not know what to do with it when the company disappears. No warranty, no repairs, no OTAs, no recall fixes... I'd love to get a Rivian SUV if they get their stuff together. I test drove the R1T, great vehicle.
I definitely had same concerns in 2017 while in line for a Tesla Model 3. I tried to assure myself by thinking Tesla had so much momentum that even in case of bankruptcy, someone would step in and acquire for pennies on the dollar, and assume support. That’s no help for shareholders but maybe ok for car buyers. I think rivian too has a lot of positive momentum.
Their SUV and pick up are good looking. Right now there is not a lot of overlap with TESLA. As the moderator pointed out Rivian has lots of cash on hand and at this point the manufacturers are generally not profitable. Musk makes a good point when he says slow down your cash burn.
As a Rivian owner and ex Tesla owner I think electric vehicles are state of the art although I’m skeptical on the environmental impact hype. That being said my Rivian vehicle surpasses my expectations on quality and unbelievable performance. The so called recall took maybe 5 minutes to fix and customer service has been exceptional. Yes Rivian will burn through cash for the foreseeable future as expected but the high quality of the vehicle and company will prevail over time.
I like the Rivian. The Ford f150 lightning frunk is the best design out there, but the Rivian direct to consumer sales model is good for 15% profit over traditional auto. We shall see how the cybertruck fares once initial orders are done. With 1000V charging, the legacy charging stations are not a factor unless cybertruck is backwards compatible. So its anyone's game in the truck market. I have the model Y and love it a lot. I like the R1S better than the model X. The falcon wing doors are a problem waiting to happen. Rivian needs expanded charging locations. Tesla has much better coverage than anyone.
@@ederlikessoccer So was Amazon for first many years...so is Uber still. One big difference, Amazon and Tesla did it when losses were recoverable in a far different economy than now - Supply Chain will kill manufacturers if they are not ALREADY profitable...Uber MAY survive, so long as they continue to only provide a Service. Simple Economics.
Have you ever been to a resource boom town or even a successful agricultural community? There are plenty of pickup trucks worth six-figures in these places. Now an R1T of Cyber truck may not directly compete, at least immediately, with “one-ton” and bigger trucks with all the options because these are generally owned by people who need to be able to tow large loads for hundreds of miles but there are people who will pay that much for a truck; particularly those who don’t really “need” a large pickup but purchase it as a status symbol.
@@dougpatterson7494 Um, Dah. I have seen gas and Diesel trucks, go over priced as well, and since dealers are now putting any price they want for mark up your paying 10 to 30 k more than msrp. This video is about electric. Why would I want a 1/4 ton truck for 110k. Electric. Once again over priced shit. How about we built a power grid to deal with this first, instead of vis versa. Lets Go Brandon
@@dougpatterson7494 EV trucks can't even remotely compete with a 1/2 ton truck when it comes to actually using them for work.. If competing with a 1/2 ton truck for work is hilarious, comparing to a 1 ton is moronic.. These toy EV trucks are great for soccer mom's and guys wearing suits, but they worthless as F to a working man that relies on his truck to get actual work done.. My favorite are the morons that think the highways are going to be overtaken by EV big rigs in a decade or so.. If it takes hours and hours to charge a car just think how long it will take to charge a big rig.. And yes I'm fully aware a model 3 can quick charge in like 45 min (it's hilarious people call that quick). But anyone with an IQ over 2 knows every time you fast charge a battery the life expectancy of the battery drops. Not only will big rig EV be ludicrous heavy and not be able to haul half the freight a diesel truck can, the battery packs will be stupid expensive and have a short life by being "quick" charged non stop... Not only will MASSIVE truck stops need to be built, the road/bridge infrastructure and electric infrastructure is going to have to go into multiple trillions of dollars of upgrades that will take decades if not a century.. Even if reality hits them in the face and they finally take the blinders off and just mandate cars, pickups and vans be EV the road/bridges infrastructure and electric infrastructure is going to have to go into multiple trillions of dollars upgrades. Which is going to cause another problem, WTF are they going to do with what's left of the crude to make diesel, is it just going to be waste? A hilarious thing to me is how the EV cultist green freaks mumble on incoherent about how ICE is terrible for the environment and never mention how terrible mining for battery materials, creating the battery, recycling the battery and disposal of the battery is on the environment.. Not to mention the battery being a massive expense of the car and when people have a car that's a few years old most won't want to pay for the stupid expensive battery replacement.. Highly likely EV is going to be far more throw away vehicles than ICE which also isn't very environmental friendly. My daily driver is a 97 Silverado with over 300,000 miles untouched except routine maintenance and I can drive coast to coast any day I want (far faster than any EV). I see 90's vehicles every day still on the road (even 70's and 80's).. I bet you will see damn few if any 2022 EV's on the road 25 years from now.. I can drive my antique 86 Ram 50 from coast to coast and get there faster than any EV FFS.. Something to think about. For anyone in the tourism, restaurant industry that is all giddy about EV take over. Guess who is going to see the effects first when EV restricts mobility and people don't want to take forever to travel anymore.
@@jsuperman7672 Just the grid itself not counting having actual charging stations is decades and multiple trillions of dollars away.. Roads and bridges are also decades and trillions of dollars away when you factor in a model 3 damn near weighs twice a ICE car it's size. Heavier the vehicles on the road equals more wear and tear.. Chargers are another story. For instance there is a grand total of 2 charging stalls within 100 miles of my house, and they are the variety that I would have to set for hours to charge a model 3.. Granted I could set at that charger for an hour to get me to a Tesla charger just to sit for another 45 minutes..lol I do believe one part of our society should be mandatory 💯 EV and that's the government.. Top down all EV from every police car, ambulance and firetruck all the way up to everyone working for the government especially politicians 💯 EV... I think when people call 911 and the police, ambulance and firetrucks don't come because they are sitting on a charger from their previous run they MIGHT start questioning how bright of an idea it is. When ATF and FBI vehicles are charging and keeping them from shooting people's dogs they might think it sucks.. When moron politicians have to deal with their policies they might think twice (but I doubt it)..
Depending on the political and global economic conditions, changes can change quickly in all areas, not just the electric car market, but it is true that the Rivian is one of the best-made electric trucks since the Tesla. Even if economic deterioration occurs, I think that the Rivian brand will survive through mergers and acquisitions with other companies, as it did before. (This is my personal opinion and there are many private parts that I like Rivian trucks)
Tesla is new to vehicle manufacturing and have suffered on the steep learning curve and Rivian have the same problems. However, Rivian is a minor player in the EV market, and will go bust as will Tesla. The problem with Tesla is the model range has not progressed and is stagnant. Meanwhile the Koreans and Germans all have new models across the range being delivered. VW have over 20 new EV models in, or going into production at the moment. They already supply EV vans and small trucks, something Tesla is lacking. Indeed Tesla is now BEHIND the other manufacturers. I guess Musk thought he had a good start, but the other manufacturers have surpassed Tesla in quality and quantity of EV vehicles on the road.
I was interested in Rivian until they increased the price ridiculously. Originally I had seen a car show and they claimed you could get their truck for $20k... now it is $73k. Nope, that's more than I owe on my house, by a lot.
I hope they are successful. Competition breeds better products. I like what has been made in the EV world so far, but if I were to have to pick a favorite right now today, Rivian is building what I would like to own. Their SUV is going to make a lot of money for Rivian. So I'm not worried.
They look ugly and they're expensive. Why would anyone not want a gas car other than the current administration trying to crush natural energy. If I buy electric, it will be Tesla.
As for me, I want all of the Electronic Vehicle startups to succeed like TESLA because the greater number of these companies mean more choices for the consumer, and possible price wars leading to much lower prices in the future 😮😊😅😂
Considering that Tesla was sued over its working environment I would wonder where Elon would suggest cutting costs. People forget that Sam Walton started Wal-Mart by paying the employees fair wages and provided for their retirement the longer they stayed with the company. Walton wanted to get as much out of employees as anyone, I just think that people need to realize that if you look at how Wal-Mart was run while he was alive, a lot of companies would stop having high turn over as well as producing burnt out employees.
Rivian and Lucid are only available to rich people. My dream car is a Rivian but sheesh way too expensive! Tesla is more fairly priced, so many more people would rather get one than a Rivian or lucid. Even Tesla is a bit pricey for average people though. This is why I can’t wait for the Aptera, any average person will be able to afford one which is why I think they’ll take off
Ford might be a big problem for both Rivian and Tesla. Current face of the F150 looks great, F150 Lightning sells well and the future EV SUV will sell well as well. Toyota will enter the EV market as well with some serious tech. Especially that Panasonic is connected to Tesla so the know how is already there
@@MGMidget73 The performance of the Lighting is outstanding and the towing range will effect every EV since even a 100KWH pack carries about 3 gallons of gas worth of energy (shows how much energy ICE vehicles waste). In any case, less than 5 % of pickups do any significant towing so towing range will not be a significant factor in EV sales.
I believe all car manufacturers are having a tough time at the present. Our economy is crashing, our government is attempting to force us to go all digital. When that happens they will have total control over what we can and can't purchase. They will track everything that we purchase. We won't have any backup in a cashless society.
A lot of people mistake revenue with profit. Just because a company is making a lot of revenue doesn't mean it's a healthy company. ROI is a major indicator of the health of a company.
Yeah, because it's true. They have about 13.8b of cash on hand and burned 1.7b last quarter. They're not in immediate threat of bankruptcy, and very likely able to raise cash if they need.
Elon has all the right motivation to throw shade at Rivian and Lucid: they are its most dangerous potential direct competitors! And with Amazon's pre-order of so many trucks, I would count on Rivian to be relatively secure unless they do mess up badly.
I believe as an employee in the automotive industry, that this rush to EVs has brought on Many different issues. One battery shortages that are coming. Two what to do with old batteries, three the fact that these batteries are in need of replacement in four to five years. This creates an issue for the consumer. Most of these cars will have 72 month loans, then 3/4 to payoff your batteries go bad. Making the car value 0 and you need to dish out another 20K to replace them. This makes it almost impossible for the consumer affordability impossible. Next banks will limit loans for EVs to 36 months making them out of reach for most. If you don’t think it will happen? What will happen as soon as some people allow their cars be repossessed because they can’t afford the battery replacement. The banks will scramble to change policies. The other issue showing up is areas that salt gets into battery area and causes corrosion. This will be a big issue on coastal areas and in places that get snow and ice. Lots of chemical salt is sprayed on the roads and get in everywhere. Already seen a few cars in winter climates and flood areas burn to the ground from this issue. One in PA burned from corrosion caused by winter salt getting in. The other issue for northern states is the cold reduces the battery charge and you need to put the car in a heated garage when charging of it won’t charge correctly or may damage the batteries. This is just a start of the many problems that will show up as people buy EVs. Already have seen people in Cold climates sell their EVs because of battery problems caused by winter. 😅
Everyone I knew that originally told me about Rivian still can't get one. You cant make money selling things if you aren't actually selling things. And if you arent making things to sell, you are guaranteed to not sell things. This should be rule #1 for businesses but businesses still can't seem to figure this out...
In my opinion, Rivian will get over this hump and vehicle output volumes and revenue inflow will continue to increase. It has good product in all 3 of its vehicles. As they make it to the marketplace in growing numbers, the financial numbers all across the board improve. I have no opinion on Lucid at the moment. I recently saw one of their cars and was surprised how big it was and how good it looked. I don’t know enough about them currently.
Hey! Rivian employee here. There is a lot of unnecessary spending on custom everything. Bolts, nuts, buying the most expensive tools possible, supporting a whole cafeteria with workers and cashiers, free soda coffee tea and a coffee hound in the main lobby. Quite a few gardeners. RJ is more focused on looks and impressions over quality and output. If he doesnt face reality that its a factory and not a hipsters paradise, it will hit serious bankruptcy. Safety is also a serious issue. They focus on sections of the factory thats already safe and end up completely ignoring and sweeping real safety issues under the rug.
Elon has the experience and knows what is needed to succeed. Rivian is a speculative idea. Costs must be cut and additional funds are needed as soon as possible. Waiting to get funds could mean the end of Rivian...
I’m so tired of EV company’s trying to put down other up and coming company’s when they went through the same obstacles and know how hard it is to be main stream.
Rinse, lather , Repeat. Same old story. Elon is right. Most companies throw everything they have at making the product. When the true product comes out. They see the production cost. There goes the abacus. The beans are the beans. You have to count them all.
Just watched a video on a Rician truck. It took 9 charges to go from the middle of Georgia to Massachusetts. The people in the USA are in too much of a hurry to stop every two hours to charge. Also charging stations were broken, pieces stolen from the chargers, and super expensive. Try $75.00 for a 220 mile range. SUPER SLOW!
As @richrebuilds stated Rivian without proper charging infrastructure and depending on electrify America and other 3rd party options is a big no go. Half of them don't work. And they're just as expensive as gas and take 3 hours to charge the car. No one's waiting that long. This company is done for because of the lack of charging infrastructure. I won't touch another car without a Tesla charger. I had drove my friend's Rivian and although the car is cool it is not be any means convenient.
Even when they are successful, car companies are constantly walking online. Why ANYONE would choose to work for one is a mystery to me. It seems like an easy way to develop anxiety!
I think this video had a balanced point of view. They brought up how Tesla was in a similar situation and what the differences were at these critical junctures. As for Tesla and ford being the only two car companies to not go bankrupt, Tesla is far younger and so it’s not a useful statistic. IMHO
Elon is always right. He dramatises things, but he's always right. He didn't say that they would go bankrupt. He said they needed to make major changes, and the outcome is up to Rivian.
I’ve owned the Rivian R1T since May and other than a minor recall issue on a front steering arm bolt I’ve had no problems. This is the most advanced and mind blowing vehicle I’ve ever driven. It’s faster than Porsches and Aston Martin I’ve owned and blows the F150 away in every metric. The new Lightning truck will be comparably priced for similar specs, but in my opinion is an inferior product. The EV vans are now rolling out for Amazon and should sustain the company in the short run until full production is ramped up. I’ve read that lower priced vehicles will be released in the future. It’s certainly pricey, but there’s a market for them and I believe the company will complete well with Tesla.
Have you thought about what you are going to do if rivian goes under? My fear is having a 'smart' vehicle that has no software support later on. With ICE there is no need for later support other than machining parts really. And Tesla is established enough that theirs are pretty safe in that aspect. That is my main concern of buying a Rivian.
It maybe a wild thought that if Rivian fails in it's expectations in the next five years then expect Elon Musk will offer a lending hand, who knows maybe Elon Musk will indeed control the whole EV industry....

The problem with Rivian is the front of the truck looks dorky and the overall shape looks boring, If any new vehicle doesn't initially attract a potential customer from the way it looks you have an uphill battle from the get-go.
Rivian won’t out of business. They will go through the same process as tesla. They will realize they need to accelerate their production and reduce parts to increase margins.
If you own one, take a close look at the chrome in the interior, it doesn't match, they have had so many supplier issues with the chrome that it's changed to multiple sites and they can not harmonize the color because it is a unique and very difficult color to match. It is all China and Korea and they have very different chemistry which makes the colors different. FYI, the quality is not very good with dotts and other weird looking stuff!
8mths ago you posted an almost identical video to this one, one question is why did Amazon contract Rivian to build 100,000 delivery trucks? Elon is just whining, he knows that his grip on the ev market has slipped through his fingers and the competition is kicking in his door
RIVN has a rapidly declining Altman Z score, so this may be true. Z scores below 2 imply bankruptcy in two years. RIVN has a score that was 19 at the end of 2021, today it has a score of 3. If it continues to sink at that rate, they are in trouble. They have a complex truck with lots of parts, but the delivery van may save them.
When you get scared, say bad things about the competition? Rivian went up almost $4.00 in it's stock price. this is as bad as the rumor in the office that Tesla is having MAJOR issues and will start falling backwards sooner than later, be ware folks, if you loose your shirt in Tesla stock, don't blame me. Oh, my dad works at Rivian and today they were told, not only are things looking up, but they are looking REAL good, high sales volume and plenty of pre-orders just waiting to be filled
$4 dollars stock price increase...lol...you funny bro. Tesla has billions in cash and has the highest margins in the industry. Tesla also has factories on 3 continents and is about to announce the construction of a new factory. Do some research before you keep embarrassing yourself. $4 dollar stock increase....good one bro
Bonus for Rivian … they have Tesla’s experience to watch! They also nailed down their target market BEFORE going to scale! Considering covid hit them right at launch time, I wouldn’t count on their demise just yet!!
Elon is genuinely trying to help Rivian because he knows that competition is good for the market so he wants them to stay in business. If they claim bankruptcy, Elon is the right guy to buy and build the brand !
I watched this whole video and found myself cringing not ONCE. I have to shout out to velocity for delivering and informational video that was so down to earth, full of depth with a good b roll. I even appreciated that you just recycled the b roll because it was actually applicable, instead of using some rando nonsense b roll that quick infovids are often infamous for. I will watch more videos of yours if they are all this quality.
Meet Kevin just made a video on Rivian and Lucid balance sheets compared to Tesla when they were delivering about the same amount of vehicles, and it's scary. Rivian will run out of money in 26 months and lucid in 9 months if they keep burning money like they are doing right now!
The deficiencies of EV delivery vans include lack of range and lack of load capacity as compared to ICE‘s that EVs are expected to replace. That means business switching to EVs must spend a lot more money to have the same carrying capacity.
Ford did a massive study on delivery vans and the average route is only 78 miles most of the time is spent stopping and walking to doors. EV is the PERFECT vehicle for deliveries.
Also think marketing has to be better. Still a ton of people who have no idea what a Rivian is. They must use all methods like social media to flood American spaces so Americans can know and understand what a Rivian is !
Great Video with lots of Info ! thank you , I have R. stock, purchased after I saw the product, product is amazing, ( I would not buy a 100K product, maybe 30K) fingers crossed that Amazon and other backer steps in to big it the extra push .... its a great product.. my guess is someone will push the company forward with or without the R. name on it.
Hmm. How will I feel commenting on Twitter instead of TH-cam? Will Twitter ever reach the status of educational emporium? Can TH-cam voluntarily reform, or get the oomph to sell the company, or get new management?
The technology is expensive and profit margins are low. It’s a tough business. And the innovation is so competitive. I hope Rivian can push through it, because looking at the big picture, we all benefit. How? Less pollution
If Tesla made a pickup truck I would have ordered one. I ordered a Rivian. 2 of my buddies have the Rivian and I drove one of them and fell in love with it. It’s crazy that Tesla is not making pickups, they could be making more money but I guess they don’t need to make truck because Rivian definitely has the market on them ! 👍
They had a few supply constraints to overcome. Won’t be much longer only recently did they come out saying they can now make as much as they want without battery constraints.
@@ItsBinhRepaired Cybertruck is soooo ugly though.... I would have loved to stay with Tesla if they came up with a more conventional/good looking truck, but I ended up ordering a Rivian instead. It's a shame I know many of us were disappointed with that weird design, but I'm sure it will still sell like crazy. .
@Oklm23 You're too worried about looks. People used to laugh at my Samsung Galaxy Note phone... and now everyone has giant phones. It's not ugly, it's just different.
I have an R1S and its such a comfortable ride than my Model X. If Rivian executes well and produces cars of such great quality compared to Tesla, it will not go bankrupt.
EV, considering the current technology, charging network, are just for short distance commute, a city car then and should be small, simple and cheap. It is a second if not third car. This would grratly reduce co2. Beware when the Chinese will flood the market with these.
These companies trying to sell EV vehicles that cost $80,000 to average citizens should of realized there are not that many people that want to pay that much for a vehicle. The majority of people that want a vehicle that costs that much already have EVs in their garage.
I'd rather pay $45k for a RAM 1500 4x4 with a HEMI. But, alas, that it's outside my budget too. Yet I earn a 6 figure salary. Single income family. Only debt is our mortgage. One car. A paid off 2015. We've never had 3 vehicles with a combined value of $50k.
@Fish Gutz yeah likewise. Taking a loan on a new vehicle is ridiculous these days. I have all my vehicle bought and paid for with cash. Just bought a Royal Enfield INT650 for fair weather commuting this year and hands down one of the best purchases I have made. Using a 7000lbs box on wheels is very inefficient even if it is electric. That's the reality people need to acknowledge. If more people rode a motorcycle or a bike to work (weather permitting) we would be better off, trying to sell multiple versions of the same $80k-$120k EVs is stupid. Really if they want us to be using more EV we need more money spent on infrastructure to support it and less time building expensive cars only a small percentage want to buy.
As long as Amazon is not going to go bankrupt, Rivian will survive. This is the only way Jeff Bezos will compete Elon Musk on EVs.
Just for giggles look up who's financially backing rivian and lucid air. You'd be suprised.

As a person that only buys a car every 10 years or so, I was shocked at the prices of cars/SUVs/trucks on the lot. Crazy expensive.
They actually add 7k to every new car cause of the chips
Highest prices since production was halted 1942-1945.
I remember buying a new 2004 fully loaded Lariat diesel F250, single rear axle, $50K. That same truck now, $100K.
Unfortunate because both companies make better looking vehicles
So, it's luck? Luck is always part of doing business, but it's so much more.

RJ Scaringe (Rivian CEO) is a smart and focused dude, and Bezos knows that. All they need is a smooth runway to scale.

Musk is right Rivian is in trouble Financially, and I really believe that if no changes are made it’s gonna be Lights Out!!
The problem is that Rivian designed their truck to look like a Pokemon. Design matters.
best looking EV on the road
Rivian needs a more affordable vehicle, prices keep rising. As Elon said before mass production is the challenge
They cater to a different market, they better increase their prices even further 😆
They are planning to release smaller version of SUV called 'R2' by 2026
I think we need to take Musk with a grain of salt here, as Rivian is a competitor.
Elon Musk is a great African American. Isn't it strange the mainstream media doesn't celebrate that?
I love my Rivian...best vehicle I've ever owned. It's simply a joy to drive every time I get in it. A+, service team is top notch too. Amazing experience so far!
That is great but when they starting producing and selling 500k or more then that is a good benchmark to know how well they really do.
All new vehicles are a joy to drive.

Even the F150 prices have gone up like crazy. Nothing is very affordable at the moment
@@keithstark1 I totally agree with you. I paid the $100 for a reservation spot on the F150 lightening.
Musk is buying GM.

My thoughts exactly, though Ithe same could be said for many of the OEMs
I definitely had same concerns in 2017 while in line for a Tesla Model 3. I tried to assure myself by thinking Tesla had so much momentum that even in case of bankruptcy, someone would step in and acquire for pennies on the dollar, and assume support. That’s no help for shareholders but maybe ok for car buyers. I think rivian too has a lot of positive momentum.
@@CombatSport777 not really. Much easier to work on oems than a electric battery
Lithium can potentially have some constraints to EV battery production.
If you did your homework on environmental impact you'd find out that hype is most assuredly the wrong term.

Granted I could set at that charger for an hour to get me to a Tesla charger just to sit for another 45 minutes..lol

As for me, I want all of the Electronic Vehicle startups to succeed like TESLA because the greater number of these companies mean more choices for the consumer, and possible price wars leading to much lower prices in the future 😮😊😅😂
No they won't. The cost of batteries will go into orbit. The earth reserves of the metals to make these batteries don't exist.
I agree, cause we all know tesla wont change their look for the next 50 years…we need more variety
@@corsasportgt8667 And in 50 years, you can still get parts. Man, life sucks.
@@corsasportgt8667 And you know it for a fact. Is CSCO going up or down tomorrow?
For a Company that has taken 1,000 deposits for all that they can build for the next two years don't seem to be thinking of bankruptcy.
What would you expect them to say?
This is why I can’t wait for the Aptera, any average person will be able to afford one which is why I think they’ll take off
If enuff rich folks buy'm, Elon'll keep rollin'm out, right?
Musk is a genius. I don't think he is capable of making a bad business decision.
Ford might be a big problem for both Rivian and Tesla.
Current face of the F150 looks great, F150 Lightning sells well and the future EV SUV will sell well as well.
Toyota will enter the EV market as well with some serious tech. Especially that Panasonic is connected to Tesla so the know how is already there
Real world performance and towing is a major disappointment with the lightning.
Saw towing is a major problem, and 170 mile range on a charge is a nightmare.
The lightning is ugly as hell
@@MGMidget73 The performance of the Lighting is outstanding and the towing range will effect every EV since even a 100KWH pack carries about 3 gallons of gas worth of energy (shows how much energy ICE vehicles waste). In any case, less than 5 % of pickups do any significant towing so towing range will not be a significant factor in EV sales.
For now Ford is a joke. Toyota or Nissan or VW or Hyundai or Kia.
This aged well.
Rivian said that it had enough cash onhand to make it through 2025 it only made that statement to keep the shareholders from running for the door
why would they even say that in the first place? that's shady af
@@rjmb4687 when this type of statement is announced means the company is in deep shit. I won't be surprised if rivian goes under in 2 years
Yeah, because it's true. They have about 13.8b of cash on hand and burned 1.7b last quarter. They're not in immediate threat of bankruptcy, and very likely able to raise cash if they need.
@Mark Haechler There's so many other ev companies coming into the market its hard to say alot of these companies will vaporizer.
Amazon may have to get into the car business if they want that van order filled.
working for Tesla since 2008 and knowing how much it takes to make a profit Rivian is fucked
As someone who enjoys driving and tested EVs. Rivian unlike Lucid and Tesla has character and a goos story. I wish them success.
Ford Stock is cheap now, has been. Time to Invest, 2024 would be the year for a huge spike, I got 5000 Shares, banking on it!
Gutsy call. Ford stock has been cheap for 50 years.
@MaximumViews so a typical modern liberal tech worksite mixed with a typical modern industrial worksite. God that sounds awful.
I wish you the best
Elon has the experience and knows what is needed to succeed. Rivian is a speculative idea. Costs must be cut and additional funds are needed as soon as possible. Waiting to get funds could mean the end of Rivian...
I’m so tired of EV company’s trying to put down other up and coming company’s when they went through the same obstacles and know how hard it is to be main stream.
I'm so tired of people not understanding basic English. Point out the time stamp where he put them down?
Rinse, lather , Repeat. Same old story.
Elon is right. Most companies throw everything they have at making the product. When the true product comes out. They see the production cost. There goes the abacus. The beans are the beans. You have to count them all.
Rivian is doing better than Tesla at the same point in their production. Rivian also has better investment.
Keep telling yourself that

Coca-Cola: Pepsi is on track for bankruptcy.
Pepsi: Of course you would say that.
Love your updates , but hate that you are always playing music- it's very distracting !
Blows the f150 in every metric? That’s how I know you don’t use your F150 for truck things. The rivian can’t tow long lol
It maybe a wild thought that if Rivian fails in it's expectations in the next five years then expect Elon Musk will offer a lending hand, who knows maybe Elon Musk will indeed control the whole EV industry....

Rivian might sell more trucks if they had a good looking truck.
The problem with Rivian is the front of the truck looks dorky and the overall shape looks boring, If any new vehicle doesn't initially attract a potential customer from the way it looks you have an uphill battle from the get-go.
Its a nissan frontier with two dyson fans on the front..
Rivian won’t out of business. They will go through the same process as tesla. They will realize they need to accelerate their production and reduce parts to increase margins.
Cool product, but working for Rivian is horrible. Everyone I know has nothing but bad things to say about working there.
First of all the plant is in Illinois so it was doomed from the beginning
Just bought the stonks before the rise and put in my preorder. Rivian looks promising
I hope Rivian does well. As they are currently constructed, they aren't profitable and show no signs of changing anytime soon.

No hes not. Think through that again
Great Video with lots of Info ! thank you , I have R. stock, purchased after I saw the product, product is amazing, ( I would not buy a 100K product, maybe 30K) fingers crossed that Amazon and other backer steps in to big it the extra push .... its a great product.. my guess is someone will push the company forward with or without the R. name on it.

I just bought a Lucid! Easily the best car I've ever driven. I may get delivery as early as a month from now. :)
I'll always be a Honda and Toyota girl. Easy to find parts and mechanics to work on them. Also no range anxiety.

Rivian, Lucid, Nikola, Lordstown, and Fisker all go to oblivion.
Musk is always right !!.
EV, considering the current technology, charging network, are just for short distance commute, a city car then and should be small, simple and cheap. It is a second if not third car. This would grratly reduce co2. Beware when the Chinese will flood the market with these.
Rivian's problem is not enough factory and high demand. R1T and R1S are amazing EV.
Musk said that 6 months ago, Rivian has made many changes since.
