This is a great phone for people who want to simplify their lives.
I actually did but with the Nokia 2720. It's also great and after uninstalling WhatsApp and FB the battery life is... around for 8-10 days, that's great because I hate to be forced to charge the phone everyday...

I've been using a flip for almost a week now. Really do love this phone. WhatsApp and the QR reader have been rock stars for me. I honestly do not miss my iPhone 11 at all. I definitely watched this before my purchase. Great video. Thanks for the review!

@@AlejandroP1980s The web browser is slow and small, I tried using it once and was annoyed. Definitely wouldn't browse the web on this phone. Maps wasn't very helpful for me. It was slow and didn't do turn by turn, so I didn't use it. TH-cam is okay on it. it flips to landscape mode and the sound is decent. but its a small screen so I don't see anyone spending hours watching it on this phone. But if youre bored enough while stuck in a waiting room, I could see someone using it.

@@vailreheart8083 So I got it and I loved it! But I unfortunately had issues receiving messages from iphone users. There seemed to be no solution other than to message everyone in my contacts individually to let them know to text me sms. Sadly, for the work I do it wasn't a very reliable way to solve the problem and I couldn't risk missing texts from people :/ so as of now until I get a new number I am back to my smart phone :(

The reason the tmobile version is $100 is because it has Wi-Fi hotspot and also Wi-Fi calling if thats features you need.
Forget about typing. This phone has a voice recording to text option. That makes it way more convenient than the long typing text process.... This could be a good option for the elderly who have trouble with the smartphones or the person who wants to disconnect from screen time and social media.
The elderly usually dont speak clearly or coherently.

Couple questions. I noticed Tmobile goflip i have has a dedicated Messages button but this one doesn't. Is it a few buttons/menu to get to Text Messages if you have no unread notices?
Does AT&T model have hotspot and VoLTE with their own carrier? Also WIFi calling I noticed the official Tmobile one has..unlocked phones dont have Wifi calling, hotspot, or VoLTE.
Google Maps turn by turn navigation style or is just basic maps w/ basic GPS?

I this as TracFone $20 from Amazon. I just buy minutes and service, as I get/make few calls. I've had mine since Dec. 2021, when my old 3G phone went off service. Nice video, John. Phone/service through Verizon piggybacking onto Mrs. Cuss' plan or my own would've been like $55 per month. Plus this phone fits in my pocket. I'm too dumb for a Smart phone......
4:50 shows you all you need to know about the experience using this telephone. youll also need a car gps or a map, be able to speak clearly unless you wanna T9 type, and Id stop by CVS and grab a cheap camera thatll actually work.

Thanks for a great video. I came to your video initially to see if the Alcatel Smartfiip 4052R had voice-to-text and how it operated. You just breezed over that section with no explanation. Please give the model number and the part number as well on the phones you evaluate. Im a senior citizen and voice to text is VERY important. Thank you... I appreciate you requiring that no cussing or foul language be used as well. Also remember the word "sucks" should be omitted as well. Children are viewing the videos. Thanks again....
I'm jonesin for the simplicity of a flip again. Great review! I got the KaiOS 1.0 which is fairly useless. Did you try the radio? Curious. First v. is not so hot, it's going back and I'm taking your BestBuy suggestion
What I don’t like about it is that when you close it, it doesn’t go back to the main screen but stays on the screen you are on. ie. photos, calculator, contacts, etc. like my old flip phone used to do.
Very important question: Is the battery cover as easy to remove as it looked here when you did it in this video? The battery cover of the MyFlip is way too tough to remove.

I got the same phone through Tracfone. $20 for the phone, $20 monthly plan with 1GB data, unlimited text and calling. My phone did not come with the Google apps nor Facebook. Has the Twitter app and several others for podcast, streaming audio. Yep. Camera sucks, but it does work. 2 megapixels. Kai OS is popular in third world countries. I like the FM radio and music player capability. Load your music on SD card and you good to go. Plus with headphone jack or bluetooth, you can connect to your stereo system.

i can't find settings anyplace. think it was a waste of $80. So, the volume is silent now. and I cannot hear calls.

Unless PHONE has a WiFi Connection Ability & a MOBILE DATA PLAN as far as I know, the MAPS are OFF-LINE & Not Live.
T-Mobile includes WiFi Calling & Mobile Hot Spot... Therefore Cost More.

No, because even though KaiOS is an open source platform, it received seed funding from Google, and as such it's the reason Google is integrated into the OS, and it's original design goals are to make simple low cost device to get more people online(mainly 3rd world/developing countries) who might not otherwise be able to afford a device at all. If you want to use this phone the best way I can think of is to make a Google Kids account, that way you can monitor what they are doing, and keep eye on what they are doing with the phone far as the other apps go, and if you catch them using the apps take the phone away. Simple as that.

I love the phone in a lot of ways - mine has become extremely glitchy. Screens will freeze, texts show up way down in my inbox instead of at the top, and there is incredible lag. Also there's no group texting!! :(

Thanks for the review. Someone said it doesn't receive texts when the phone is off. Is this so? Is texting annoying with the need to press the button repeatedly to get to a certain lettet?
If someone text you while the phone is off, you should get all those messages when you turn it back on. I guess it depends on the provider. But as for texting, it might take some getting used to. Thanks for watching.

Hi J! I recently got one of these and activated it 2 days ago. I love it but am having problems sending pictures. Regular text messages and phone calls work fine except for pictures. I went on the internet and apparently I'm not the only one having this issue. Do you have any ideas?

Does not function near as good or have the battery life of older flip phones. A big problem is that the greedy carriers turned off the entire cellular network! It is only VoLTE that is jammed through the internet which is NOT (and will not be for several more YEARS!) designed for voice packets. Very poor performance.
As of Jan.1 2021 I have a Alcatel Flip 3 4G Cannot text any letters when trying to send a message it will text numbers but NO letters! Also I can call out and receive calls ok. Only issue is Cannot text any letters when trying to send a message . Apparently Alcatel is where the problem is. Does anyone know if they have fixed this issue & what can I do for to fix this issue!!

How do u turn on the voice texting
I'd love to know. I don't think you can. My old LG phone had voice texting, but this one just has a microphone where you can record a message, but then it doesn't work trying to send it to someone.
@@lindajardee I watched another video and you can do voice to text with messages. While messenging, you long press the center button and it activates google assistant to record your text message. Way more convenient than typing. So much faster.

I can’t see the appeal of a flip phone these days. I think that horse has long bolted.
I am 20, and had smartphone since I was 16, however. I switched away from iphones this past year. With the 5g and excessive use of technology and screen time I do not want that in my life. I would rather enjoy life (I still use a computer for YT, and some social media) without being sucked into my phone. I still have fun and feel better without the high costs and such. Downside is getting called old school but hey it works for me!
