- Found this bad boy on sale at Target for $10 and decided why not?
This is not your flip phone from years back, this one runs a smartphone OS.. well one specifically tailored for devices like this called KaiOS.
The version of KaiOS running on this phone is 2.5. This phone includes a 2.8'' QVGA internal display, a Quad core Snapdragon 210 processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, expandable to 32GB with MicroSD, Battery capacity of 1350mAh, 2MP camera with 720P video recording, WIFI and bluetooth 3.0.
So while this phone does run a smartphone OS, it still has all the basics you need: camera, texting, notepad, voice memos, FM radio, Unit conversion, calculator, alarm clock, etc. But it also has an app store for games and some other fun additions. You also have an internet browser and LTE so you can browse the web and even play TH-cam videos (if you really want to watch on such a small screen)
I also compare this to an older flip phone from 2006-2007 era and what was interesting to me was because these are all apps on the phone, they don't open instantly like older flip phones, but the Alcatel is still more fully featured than the older flip phone.

my 78 yr old father just got this phone but when he calls someone it shows someone elses name! How do I change it to show up his name on caller ID? i DONT SEE a prepaid menu either where is that!!! ???? HELP ME 7/27/2020

Not sure if you watched the video but this isn't a "flip phone" as you're talking about it. It runs a derivative of Android and has TH-cam, Facebook, web browser, etc. It's a smart phone in a flip package

For ten dollars, honestly, that's a great deal. As a backup or burner, it's a amazing value
@Windows386: I would not recommend kia OS over obama's Android or ancient laptop but you can can use the my flip to watch bad quality TH-cam videos and the my flip can play 1 hour of music video manually recorded from the camera.
@@diceroll2843 Its not for TH-cam or of music its only to call someone or for someone who didn't have a phone and wants to buy one cheap to call.
@@crazfamily7339 Well if that's the case it should be accurately labeled as cell phone with Pac-Man because anytime you start throwing around the computer words like OS or CPU in any context then I will automatically expect a laptop experience to some extent especially with basic web browsing media.

Wow that youtube part made me excited for the future
I just got this phone at Target a couple of days ago on sale for $10. Not a nad deal for a spare "burner" phone with the $20 unlimited talk/text plan. Apparently you can download games/apps, but it's like 2006 technology. Still, not a bad deal for something so cheap. I like having a spare phone and new number to give out for times I don't want to give out my smartphone number. I've even found that I make more phone calls on it than I do with my smartphone. I had forgotten hold cool flip phones are to hold and talk on.
Is wifi on it? And can i download espn or hulu?
@@1meancyberbully329 this phone does have WiFi but the apps it can use are a bit limited it’s great for old people I got one for an older relative.

What about call quality? Kinda the main reason someone gets a phone like this.
Another difference between the old LG flip and a Alcatel MyFlip is that the older LG flip has 2G/3G connectivity whereas the Alcatel has 4G LTE and VoLTE connectivity.
Soon many carriers are removing 3G connectivity so it will be only LTE and above.

I was confused by all the Alcatel models, like My Flip, Go Flip 3, Go Flip V, thinking they were like oldest model to newest. But that's not the case, right? The different names/numbers are just depending on which carrier it goes with?
Thank you for the video. I was curious if it is possible, with this phone, to have someone's picture come up whenever they call on the outer screen? I could not locate anything in settings, do you know if this is an available feature on the phone?
So does anyone know how to check for minutes on this phone? is their a way without calling or going online? Because it seems pretty ridiculous to not be able to display minutes on the main menu.

Hey there, I recently got the same model tracfone, and i'm not so sure about the PIN activation; do I have to buy it myself as in airservice? Or does it come with said pin number, i'm totally confused, any help would be appreciated.
Hope you also tried texting on it to see if it’s good for fast texting. The LG one was bad.
I had a TracFone back in 2010 when my contract with Verizon was cancelled. No reason. Then my aunt added me to her plan and then after that I carrier hopped and now I'm back on Verizon. I really wanna buy a flip phone by a unique one

I totally agree with you. It would be nice to know how to use the phone settings and not just that it has the settings! The instructions that come with the phone for setting up an account are not what is actually on the phone.
How do tell how many minutes you have left? I have one of these and cannot see how much time and minutes I have left to use as my old LG did.

I have tracfone, haven’t used it in over a year. I went a got a prepaid card to give more airtime. I entered the airtime code to refill the phone. Now the phone has more airtime, and will not work. I called the 1 800 # and tried to reactive my phone online. Airtime refill was confirmed but my phone still will not work. I lost $20 on a minute card, it really sucks. 😣
The instructions in the box are conflicting from one booklet to the next. They don't tell you all of the steps required to activate the phone. After 35 minutes with customer support this evening, I got the phone activated, but the call quality was terrible. I'm taking the phone back to the store tomorrow for a refund.
It's a good phone prepaid definitely has its positive sides..... affordable monthly payments with tracfone paying 15 a month for unlimited calls and text......

I was watching You Tube and playing checkers on my TCL Flip (Boost Mobile) while waiting for my son to have a medical procedure. So, it's cheap and OK for old boomers like myself. A little learning curve to use all the features however.

Hey sir thank you for the video and I just want to clarify that kia OS phone is absolutely not Android because based on my experience I could not even use basic laptop web browsing on this kaios flip phone because I kept getting the error message that the scripts were not supported and as much as a JavaScript shill Google is I can confidently say that there is no there's no high function scripts on the kaios and it's more like Java the c+ aka j2me which is very similar to JavaScript except j2me cannot be used to replicate high function code the same way a Linux kernel like Android does with JavaScript and I know for a fact that there is no terminal on this guy wears flip phone so I don't believe that the kaios flip phone even has a Linux kernel which I could be wrong but I cannot find any information.

It should be at every target (unless they stopped selling it) but it comes with a SIM card so it will let you get on WiFi

Nice review, but from personal experience, I dont reccomend it.
I bought one at the beginning of this year because I needed a phone and couldn't afford alot. I did like the way it felt and It was an easy and enjoyable phone to use. Not a bad phone for the price. However, I had problem with it.
I owned it for almost two months and never dropped it. I even kept the screen protector on so it wouldn't get scratched. One day it just stopped working and i dont know why. It was either an internal issue or a battery issue but it wouldn't turn back on. Battery stores dont carry this battery, so you'll have to buy another Myflip just to get one if it happens. I understand you get what you pay for, but I wasnt expecting it to break as quick as it did.
I lost about $30 worth of minutes I put in just before it broke, as well as photos and numbers. Haven't bothered to fix it. I just bought a different phone.
Just something to watch for if you get this phone.
Instructions provided with the phone are useless. That's why I'm here on TH-cam trying to find out how to activate it.

This phone does have a cost for minutes and text I got a relative that rarely uses a cell phone on the 90 day 60 min that’s 20 dollar it’s great for them.
Can you look up your remaining minutes and when it’s time to refill?
Because it's not an actual smartphone, you can't use the Tracphone 'MyAccount' android app. However, Tracfone has a dedicated text message # that will tell you how many minutes, texts and megs you have left. If you text 'Balance' to 611611, you'll get a reply with that information.

Zoe Lawson it should show whoever registered the phone number on the caller ID. I would contact Tracfone to verify they have the correct information on file as that would be something with the network.

@@IansTechsame country here, philippines. I got this literally like yesterday. It doesnt work on our any local providers here, so you cant use the sim. Though wifi works. It just sucks because i would have love it for call and text purposes which i CANT DO.
Pretty much im using it for radio and.... for flex using "old" phones. Haha 😂
