      I'm also in my 30s, but the problem with my slider phone (sony ericsson w995) is that Rogers is going to stop supporting the 1900 MHz network it runs on, coming July 2021. Looking into other carriers, but I think every company will go this route by 2025. So despite the love, I feel like my hand is being forced =(.

      There are still decent flip phones out there but those are usually not produced in and/or not marketed for western markets. In China and Japan for example flip phones are still pretty common and regional brands produce them.

    Perfect phone for Seniors. I gave my Mom a nice smartphone. She was unable to use it as she kept getting lost in menus. One time she somehow turned on the flashlight and couldnt turn it off. lol!! All she wants to do is make and receive calls. Replaced it with this phone and she is happy and I am happy not getting "What should I do?" calls anymore.

      @@TechOdyssey Thanks for the reply. Out of curiosity, do you know what the difference between the Go Flip 3, Go Flip V, SmartFlip, and My Flip are? Is there like a chart somewhere that shows the feature comparisons? Is it carrier dependent? I've seen some reviews where there is no voice to text and some where there is no app stores. I went back to a feature phone almost three years ago. Started on a Go Flip, went to the new Nokia 3310 and now I just got the Go Flip 3. I had to use an iPhone 6 for like a week and a half until I got the new flip and I couldn't stand it, I really don't like having a smartphone as my main phone. I love being disconnected.
    The one issue I find with all feature phones is the lack of a good camera. I understand we buy these phones to be disconnected, but I would pay for a $150-200 flip phone that was basically just the Go Flip 3, but with a high-quality camera and a bit better display. I don't use any internet features, but I wanna take some photos still. If a company did this, they'd have my money in an instant.

    • @dragonflysparrow8460
      @dragonflysparrow8460 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here! I feel the same way. I would definitely pay "smart phone prices" for a feature phone that doesn't have all the connectivity, but one that had all the quality, such as a nice camera and a qwerty keyboard, along with it having VoLTE compatibility. This type of phone would be ideal.

    (New T-Mobile Rugged Flip Phone Coming in Autumn 2021!) I was going to pull the trigger on getting the Alcatel Go Flip 3, but I came across a couple of news pieces/blogs that say that in September 2021 or so, T-Mobile will supposedly be releasing two new rugged phones from Bullitt Group/CAT Phones. One of them is supposed to be a Flip Phone! -- Perhaps, if and when it comes out, you might consider reviewing it. -- I'm currently on a rugged Kyocera DuraXT Flip Phone with Sprint, so I've been looking for a replacement for when T-Mobile shuts down the Sprint 3G CDMA network at the end of 2021. -- Many thanks for your thorough, entertaining (and practical!) reviews!

As far as why flip phones in 2019 I get tired of buying 3-4 phones a year because I break screens on smart phones regularly driving heavy equipment.. usually getting in and out of cabs which are 10ft off the ground and falls face down on a rock or pebble does them in easily. I have a much more durable flip though called Sonim XP3. Cost $300 and way less features than this. Anyway thanks again.

    Thank you for the very thorough review! I'm an "Elder Millennial" (I'm in my late 30s), and I have come to *despise* smart phones. My generation has been blessed to have owned flip phones in our late teens, and soon after, we had the privilege of owning one of the several awesome feature phones that followed. Here we are, in 2021, and I remember and *long for* those days where I was independent from constant internet influence and app interruption / distraction. (... I don't think GenZ has any idea how tied down they really are. But they don't know any different. Poor kids...) If they start making phones like the Alcatel Go Flip 3 -- but with all these features *and* a QWERTY keyboard -- I would be in absolute phone heaven. Alcatel, pay attention to your Millennials! We want ... no -- we *NEED* phones like this, but with a physical QWERTY pad. For now, I guess I will see if this one suits me.

      No Spotify (I know they're convenient but they've been caught sending personal info, including financial info over to FceBk). Music is limited to local OTA FM Radio stations, one or two internet radio Apps in the KaiOS Store; however, I have also played internet radio stations via the web browser provided the website is properly coded to be as internet device agnostic as possible, i.e. no Apps needed. Your best option is to load up a 16Gb microSD card with your favorite songs/podcasts (roughly 145 hours worth of music give or take a couple of hours), setup playlists using KMusic or just select Folder Play -- Bonus: No need to worry about any internet connection.

      Because nothing is as easy as talking about it. Also, there's no point-- old phones have old radios with old bands and disappearing network support, and you can't just fix that like getting a shiny new 56K modem and swapping out the 33.6 modem from a PCI slot, because that would make sense, and modern phones don't.

    I have a alcatel flip phone, no youtube or GPS just a simpler kind, but I can read articles and books/pdfs on it. I got it through tracphone. It is durable with a good hard case and its size makes it perfect for playing outside with my Dog, Gardening, Going To Work, School, Cleaning My House, becauase I am clumsy and hyper! It has been dropped or fell out of pockets without harm.I decided it is wasteful to keep trying to maintain a thing that is not for me, I broke two smart phone screens (that's 160 dollars wasted not even including minutes I paid for) First time I was rollerskating, second time just doing the dishes. I love the case and sturdiness of these things and ther's no shadow block from a big flat square shape, cause the flip phone is a sleek more rectangular shape and to me that is better for photographs, and I do not need a selfie mode cause I mostly want to take pictures of weird stuff I find or of nature. Also this wall of text was made due to a home computer being availible to my jackass, the inconvience of typing on a flip phone has led to me being slightly less annoying to everyone in my personal and professional life, (until I get my turn on this computer then I am gonna keep typing and typing and typing and oh lets go to annagramm server typing and typing and typing and typing THirty more emails just for you baby and a novel about did I remember to take out the trash.. I am 65. We have complicated our lives up with these devices. Having a simple inexpensive phone just for calls and minimal messaging is great. I am using $2300 in cell phones and $800 in iPads on mobile. Shucks, $3,100 for five mobile devices. That was spent in less that two years. I have a mental problem. So, a better solution, with dicipline, is use a phone as a phone and maybe a Tablet or laptop with a mobile card for a signal. The 5G paradigm, if it is eventually forced on us is going to create another reason to spend MORE money! We have to play, raise children, go to work and live our lives. Yes, I am doing stuff online 12 or more hours a day. Shame on me. I need a change in my discipline!!! Thanks for your experience!!
