I loved Danny Pino playing Nick Amaro! I'm gutted he's left the show. I haven't been able to get into season 17, it's not the same. Benson and Amaro's partnership was great in my opinion!

Do you remember their relationship? It was different than most cop partner relationships, esp in this series. They never hooked up ( got dangerously close) but they both cared way too much about each other and their work suffered big time. Cragen even bitched em out for that on multiple occasions.

I KNOW! After Elliot left the character of Olivia just blossomed and it became so much more of a pleasure to watch. I feel like the show got a jump start when he left.
The ONLY reason is because she learned not to be dependent on him. Y’all gon quit acting as if stabler wasn’t a good partner. He almost died for this woman COUNTLESS times
I get how some people might be pissed but I actually thought this was a great recognition to Stabler and Benson's relationship with him. They always had a very complicated relationship and in a way, quite toxic. They were kind of dependent on each other and didn't work well without each other. That doesn't mean it didn't mean anything, he just had a different effect on her than Amaro did. Their friendship has truly allowed her to grow and let go of the past. She's become more her own person now instead of living in someone's else's shadow.

Aww Nick 🥺🥺🥺🥺 i miss him so much on svu, a great diligent cop. Loved how Olivia and Nick parted, it was amicable and full of adoration. The bit of her differentiating how different her partnership with Elliot and Nick was so good.

It kind of seemed like she couldn’t maintain a relationship because her and Elliott has this complicated relationship. She and nick had a great relationship and no real complications and he was there for her and supported her no matter what. El didn’t Always..like when she wanted to keep Calvin. To say Elliot didn’t allow or support her is completely wrong, it was the opposite, Olivia herself depended too much on Elliot(yes he depended on her too but he at least had development and growth through his time) Elliot actually encouraged her to be a mother and at one time scolded her for over depending on him.

I loved the chemistry between Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay as Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit SVU, they trusted each other a lot, would have done anything for each other, they were very good partners and friends, they loved each other very much but their relationship was also complicated too and they were too dependent on each other too and I was so sorry when he left and he is missed but I truly believe he were still her partner and on the show, Olivia would have never adopted her son Noah Porter Benson or become Captain and head of her unit and I truly believe he would tried to hold her back but I hope has her friend he would have wanted to succeed with both personally and professionally, that is my opinion and I am sure a lot of people agree with me or not.
strongly disagree with Stabler holding her back, its more Benson holding HERSELF BACK, she was always a strong detective but she RELIED ON STABLER A LOT, Even Stabler constantly reassured her how great she turned out to be despite her upbringing and even ENCOURAGED her to be a mother and she has grown even while being partnered with him, But i will say him leaving allowed her to finally come into her own and grow even more.
Agree with you 100% , Benson wanted Stabler to agree with her choices too many times, even when they were arguing and they desagreed. About adoption, he said that her job will not let her time enough to have a family life. (Knowing from his own experience..,). But we know that "her job" was a way to say " being with the man of her life" - so when he left she was devastated for sure but it was an opportunity to move on. She was sure that she was not able to make friend ,,, but Amaro and Amanda are the living evidence that 'yes, she can' . And she happened to find out that many other families have issues of their own. My pov is Rollins is top of the top about family issues because she had to go away from them to have a life. With gambling issues but,,,her sister is a good reason why she went addicted . + Chief Patton!
I kind of disagree with what she said about Elliot. She implied that Elliot somehow kept her from having the life that she has now, and that's not really fair. Olivia had a lot of personal issues back then that had nothing to do with him. It seems like the writers put that line in knowing full well the reaction that it would generate. There was no need for it.
Lexie Marin I actually agree with what she said..He left without saying goodbye which is selfish, after season one, she stayed consistent as "elliot's partner" and nothing more compare to now. Their relationship was complicated and unhealthy. Don't get me wrong when I first her say that I was like how can you say that about him but the more I think about the more I'm like yea true. She lost trust in him like she stated in the earlier seasons post stabler..and did you notice when she mentions Elliot, It always about his anger.
DragonHeart613 But so was him up and leaving out of the blue without a word. That was a slap in her face. To her it makes her question the trust and partnership she had with Elliot. He's not bad guy at all but he is force to be reckon with. It's hard for others to get along with him, imagine how hard it must be to be his partner(which she stated all through out the series).
Why did Amaro have to leave? He was my absolute favorite character, he added something to the show that wasn't there before. And he was SO attractive! SVU is amazing, but they really hurt themselves letting Amaro go. Every time I watch the show, I pray that they bring back Nick in one of the future episodes like they have with other characters. I'm crying so hard right now!
Nick said that he wasn’t going anywhere like moving up in the SVU & he wanted to be closer to his kids in California. He came back in the 500th episode as a guest star

“It didn’t allow for anything else” I mean... I completely understand her perception here. People take this super negatively and I know it was intended that way (probably by WL let’s be honest) for many reasons but she’s not wrong. Her and Elliot were completely all consuming for each other. And she knew it.
If you recall, this episode was written as a series finale because NBC wasn't going to pick it up for the next season due to financial reasons. They renewed it at the last minute.
What makes this episode so powerful is the nuts & bolts of the Johnny D court case and the ensuing bloodbath in court are the meat of the episode but are secondary to the vindication of Olivia as Noah officially becomes her son, even though tinged with bittersweetness at the end with Amaro. Adding enormously is that Langan has been with Olivia the whole way, making for a poignant autobiographical in-joke.
I can understand why people would get upset over how Benson referred to Elliot here, and I won't lie, I also got upset. But in a way, it is also true: Benson and Stabler did have this relationship where they were too close to each other and sometimes it compromised their case-working abilities. Plus the fact that Meloni and NBC's contract negotiation ended so abruptly forcing them to writing his character out of the show didn't help considering it was done so hastily. And I think his departure did allow for them to grow Benson's character more than people would like to admit. Now granted, I think it could've been worded a lot better here than it was, but Stabler leaving may have been the best thing that could've happened to Benson. Of course I will admit I never really liked Amaro that much. I'm sure Pino's a fine actor but I just think Amaro's character was written too...awkwardly let's say.
I totally agree the best thing that ever happened to Olivia Benson was Elliott Stabler leaving SVU because him leaving gave Benson time to breath and grow into the great person and mother she became plus her partnership with Nick Amaro wasn't filled with sexual tension like it did with Stabler.

I grew more in my last four years with you than I did in the twelve years that I was with him you know that relationship what ever it was didn't allow for anything else but with you with your support I have a family you helped me grow all she is saying is when amaro came she didn't know him and over that last four years she grew more she is now the sergeant and has Noah all she is saying is that he supported her differently than stabler did

It's hard to get attached to a character emtoionally, if he/she, is being replaced by another, every 4 years. Though tbh, Amaro wasn't a character that was hard to attach myself to, givin' him only being on the show for 4 years. He hasn't had enough time on the show. On TOP of the relationship they started between him and Rollins? Just so many unfinished storylines. I can't deal.
Honestly, another reason why olivia wasn't really able to grow in her years with Elliot is because he was always senior to her. She would never willingly leave svu and if he had stayed, she wouldn't be captain right now. That's just in a professional perspective because it's also true that Olivia and Elliot had a very toxic relationship. They were too dependent on eachother and needed to learn to stand on their own feet. Elliot leaving without saying anything to Olivia and ignoring her afterwards, goes to show how unhealthy their relationship was. I think it's great that they're bringing Stabler back especially in a different series and as the head of another department. I do want them to have some sort of confrontation about it though, they can't just ignore the fact that he up and left her without a word after like 12 or 13 years. I also thought that I heard that he left his family too when he left svu sooo..
I don’t think they should give him his own show I don’t think it will last long he doesn’t have the capability to carry the show how Olivia did and even when he was on the show Olivia had to carry Mostly and Elliot story was the same about his marriage and anger issues but if Olivia didn’t have her story that lead to her finding out she had a brother and then the story about him being a rapist and in my opinion the William and Louis story can’t be topped in my opinion she her and the guy that really did some hella good acting I think they should turn him into a cast member like just make him a detective again and it doesn’t make sense to me him just being the chief of anything because he walled away from the force like he as to earn his way back up
It isn't a spoiler it is a fact that Danny Pino will be reprising his role as Detective Nicholas "Nick" Amaro in 500th episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit SVU called The Five Hundredth Episode on Thursday, October 21, 2021 and I can't wait to him back on the series and he has been missed, I love him and he is the best.
I gotta say, I hate the way that even now, every time Stabler is mentioned (especially by Benson), it's all negative. The writers/producers really should get over the fact that he wanted to leave on his terms if he didn't get the deal he wanted.
It's not all negative, Benson has said on multiple occasions that Stabler protected her and other people and that he would know what to do in situations that she didn't.

Time and time it was said how they were way too close but that’s how they worked well together. She was too dependent on stabler THATS why she said she grew more with Amaro. Why should Rafael Barba be at Olivia Benson's final adoption hearing he is Olivia's friend not her boyfriend or lawyer and so he didn't have to be there and neither was any other of her friends were their too, I love that her lawyer Trevor Langan who was their for her, Langan is played Mariska Hargitay's real life husband Peter Hermann, they are a gorgeous couple.

No offense, but I really don't get Amaro. He felt like what if Stabler and his wife stayed divorced. 'Padre Sandungeuro' did give him some interesting moments, but honestly I don't see much of a difference between him and Stabler. And then I started to hate Amaro in 'Amaro's 180' he shot and permanently paralyzed a teen, and the episode constantly focuses on how sad he is, not how he ruined this kid's life.

I don't think she meant that. I'm a huge bensler shipper and I think she meant that their relationship was more than a friendship or a partnership; when I watch the episodes in which it's so obvious that there's sth going on, specially season 12 I can see that Liv was the one who had strong feelings for him. What she says here explains my point; her feelings were so strong that she couldn't allow herself do anything without Elliot. I've seen people do that. She was scared that she was gonna lose him even tho they were "just friends". Remember she didn't tell Elliot about her boyfriend Kurt in season 9 I think?! @@enamoreme430 the thing is even though she did grow as a character with Elliot and honestly she was already a strong character, she over depended on him and held herself back, even Elliot himself scolded her in season 7 for doing that, the fact they both were close friends and Olivia initially being his junior detective which by the way she promoted to 2nd grade by end of season 2 after just 2 years in svu. Eliot leaving allowed her to become her own person and didn’t have to depend on Nick the way she did on Elliot, instead she had to learn how to be the lead senior detective and later sergeant

It's because she was dependent on Stabler and I believe she had feelings for him, not just as her partner or friend, but as a man, I believe she was waiting for somethingto happen between them, like having a family with him... she wasn't dependent on Nick nor she had feelings for him, so she grew with him.
Olivia Benson was right in saying she grew more in her four relationship with Nicholas "Nick" Amaro than the twelve years with Elliot Stabler because as much as I loved the relationship, the friendship and partnership of Elliot and Olivia, it was a bit codependent and stagnant and I truly believe if Elliot was still on the show Olivia wouldn't be Captain or adopted Noah Porter Benson and I truly believe Olivia lived in Elliot's shadow, I want Christopher Meloni as Elliot to come back to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit SVU, so that he and her can have closure I'm their relationship and that would be so good.

To say Elliot didn’t allow or support her is completely wrong, it was the opposite, Olivia herself depended too much on Elliot(yes he depended on her too but he at least had development and growth through his time) Elliot actually encouraged her to be a mother and at one time scolded her for over depending on him.

I loved the chemistry between Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay as Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit SVU, they trusted each other a lot, would have done anything for each other, they were very good partners and friends, they loved each other very much but their relationship was also complicated too and they were too dependent on each other too and I was so sorry when he left and he is missed but I truly believe he were still her partner and on the show, Olivia would have never adopted her son Noah Porter Benson or become Captain and head of her unit and I truly believe he would tried to hold her back but I hope has her friend he would have wanted to succeed with both personally and professionally, that is my opinion and I am sure a lot of people agree with me or not.
strongly disagree with Stabler holding her back, its more Benson holding HERSELF BACK, she was always a strong detective but she RELIED ON STABLER A LOT, Even Stabler constantly reassured her how great she turned out to be despite her upbringing and even ENCOURAGED her to be a mother and she has grown even while being partnered with him, But i will say him leaving allowed her to finally come into her own and grow even more.
Agree with you 100% , Benson wanted Stabler to agree with her choices too many times, even when they were arguing and they desagreed.
About adoption, he said that her job will not let her time enough to have a family life. (Knowing from his own experience..,).
But we know that "her job" was a way to say " being with the man of her life" - so when he left she was devastated for sure but it was an opportunity to move on.
She was sure that she was not able to make friend ,,, but Amaro and Amanda are the living evidence that 'yes, she can' .
And she happened to find out that many other families have issues of their own.
My pov is Rollins is top of the top about family issues because she had to go away from them to have a life. With gambling issues but,,,her sister is a good reason why she went addicted .

I kind of disagree with what she said about Elliot. She implied that Elliot somehow kept her from having the life that she has now, and that's not really fair. Olivia had a lot of personal issues back then that had nothing to do with him. It seems like the writers put that line in knowing full well the reaction that it would generate. There was no need for it.

Lexie Marin I actually agree with what she said..He left without saying goodbye which is selfish, after season one, she stayed consistent as "elliot's partner" and nothing more compare to now. Their relationship was complicated and unhealthy. Don't get me wrong when I first her say that I was like how can you say that about him but the more I think about the more I'm like yea true. She lost trust in him like she stated in the earlier seasons post stabler..and did you notice when she mentions Elliot, It always about his anger.

Why did Amaro have to leave? He was my absolute favorite character, he added something to the show that wasn't there before. And he was SO attractive! SVU is amazing, but they really hurt themselves letting Amaro go. Every time I watch the show, I pray that they bring back Nick in one of the future episodes like they have with other characters. I'm crying so hard right now!

“It didn’t allow for anything else” I mean... I completely understand her perception here. People take this super negatively and I know it was intended that way (probably by WL let’s be honest) for many reasons but she’s not wrong. Her and Elliot were completely all consuming for each other. And she knew it.
If you recall, this episode was written as a series finale because NBC wasn't going to pick it up for the next season due to financial reasons. They renewed it at the last minute.
What makes this episode so powerful is the nuts & bolts of the Johnny D court case and the ensuing bloodbath in court are the meat of the episode but are secondary to the vindication of Olivia as Noah officially becomes her son, even though tinged with bittersweetness at the end with Amaro. Adding enormously is that Langan has been with Olivia the whole way, making for a poignant autobiographical in-joke.
They ruined his character; he came with a happy family but by the end he is an ex-husband and dad by 2 different moms.
And the worst part is they made his character a lot like elliot

it's been 4 years and i'm still so sad danny pino left! he is such an amazing actor.
I can understand why people would get upset over how Benson referred to Elliot here, and I won't lie, I also got upset. But in a way, it is also true: Benson and Stabler did have this relationship where they were too close to each other and sometimes it compromised their case-working abilities. Plus the fact that Meloni and NBC's contract negotiation ended so abruptly forcing them to writing his character out of the show didn't help considering it was done so hastily. And I think his departure did allow for them to grow Benson's character more than people would like to admit.
Now granted, I think it could've been worded a lot better here than it was, but Stabler leaving may have been the best thing that could've happened to Benson. Of course I will admit I never really liked Amaro that much. I'm sure Pino's a fine actor but I just think Amaro's character was written too...awkwardly let's say.
I totally agree the best thing that ever happened to Olivia Benson was Elliott Stabler leaving SVU because him leaving gave Benson time to breath and grow into the great person and mother she became plus her partnership with Nick Amaro wasn't filled with sexual tension like it did with Stabler.

Honestly, another reason why olivia wasn't really able to grow in her years with Elliot is because he was always senior to her. She would never willingly leave svu and if he had stayed, she wouldn't be captain right now. That's just in a professional perspective because it's also true that Olivia and Elliot had a very toxic relationship. They were too dependent on eachother and needed to learn to stand on their own feet. Elliot leaving without saying anything to Olivia and ignoring her afterwards, goes to show how unhealthy their relationship was. I think it's great that they're bringing Stabler back especially in a different series and as the head of another department. I do want them to have some sort of confrontation about it though, they can't just ignore the fact that he up and left her without a word after like 12 or 13 years. I also thought that I heard that he left his family too when he left svu sooo..
To add to this, if anyone wants to know, one of the writers said that Elliot left his family as well in the svu podcast.

Mostly and Elliot story was the same about his marriage and anger issues but if Olivia didn’t have her story that lead to her finding out she had a brother and then the story about him being a rapist and in my opinion the William and Louis story can’t be topped in my opinion she her and the guy that really did some hella good acting I think they should turn him into a cast member like just make him a detective again and it doesn’t make sense to me him just being the chief of anything because he walled away from the force like he as to earn his way back up

I gotta say, I hate the way that even now, every time Stabler is mentioned (especially by Benson), it's all negative. The writers/producers really should get over the fact that he wanted to leave on his terms if he didn't get the deal he wanted.
It's not all negative, Benson has said on multiple occasions that Stabler protected her and other people and that he would know what to do in situations that she didn't.

I'm a huge bensler shipper and I think she meant that their relationship was more than a friendship or a partnership; when I watch the episodes in which it's so obvious that there's sth going on, specially season 12 I can see that Liv was the one who had strong feelings for him. What she says here explains my point; her feelings were so strong that she couldn't allow herself do anything without Elliot. I've seen people do that. She was scared that she was gonna lose him even tho they were "just friends". Remember she didn't tell Elliot about her boyfriend Kurt in season 9 I think?! @@enamoreme430 the thing is even though she did grow as a character with Elliot and honestly she was already a strong character, she over depended on him and held herself back, even Elliot himself scolded her in season 7 for doing that, the fact they both were close friends and Olivia initially being his junior detective which by the way she promoted to 2nd grade by end of season 2 after just 2 years in svu. Eliot leaving allowed her to become her own person and didn’t have to depend on Nick the way she did on Elliot, instead she had to learn how to be the lead senior detective and later sergeant

It's because she was dependent on Stabler and I believe she had feelings for him, not just as her partner or friend, but as a man, I believe she was waiting for somethingto happen between them, like having a family with him... she wasn't dependent on Nick nor she had feelings for him, so she grew with him.
Olivia Benson was right in saying she grew more in her four relationship with Nicholas "Nick" Amaro than the twelve years with Elliot Stabler because as much as I loved the relationship, the friendship and partnership of Elliot and Olivia, it was a bit codependent and stagnant and I truly believe if Elliot was still on the show Olivia wouldn't be Captain or adopted Noah Porter Benson and I truly believe Olivia lived in Elliot's shadow, I want Christopher Meloni as Elliot to come back to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit SVU, so that he and her can have closure I'm their relationship and that would be so good.
