Love the shape, flying fortress with massive cram cannon as a main weapon sounds great! I think adding 3 grades of advanced cannons, ranging from machine gun with small rounds to once per, say, 15 seconds with some more serious damage could create a beautiful bullet hell scenario. Adding interceptor missles to the inside may also be interesting, basically having anti-missle, missle ships flying about. May not work but could be fun to try!
Yeah, I remember hearing it was changed to 30m. So if you want more annihilation you gotta use fragments after that, but honestly, that's also kind of disappointing. I'm working on a turret that has a 65m radius for the innards of the weapon and goes up to around 75 blocks, but neither advanced nor cram cannons allow for a satisfying weapon. At that scale, even 500mm advanced with 8m autoloaders turn into machine guns and cram cannons have too many hard-caps.
I know nothing about this game except that this is a fun watch. Big guns and explosions hell yeah! I’m kinda hooked and going to look into this game. Thanks!
From the Depths limits the explosion radius to 30 meters from the center of the explosion, if I recall correctly. I always build "big boomers" to 30 meters radius, and use secondary effects like fragmentation, flak (for advanced cannons, which have a separate 30 meter cap), or EMP to fill up the rest of the damage. HE is always my primary method of dealing damage, because of how reliable it is. It will *always* hurt something.
Here's a though: flying castle with this thing hanging off the bottom. Tiny cannons as AA, but mostly uses a bunch of armor and shields as its defense with repair bots. Call it Nurgle's Altar.
You could add mini crafts to the top, interceptor craft or something similar, a thing to distract enemies from your glass cannon. Also glad to hear your personal life is calming down!
ever since starting FtD I wanted to make a submarine that would come up to just below the surface, fire a weapon once and go back down, but I couldn't figure out which weapon to use. Now I know what I want to do, thank you!
If they ever increase the max size of cram cannons we are going to have to start calling them loom crams because of the shadow that they cast over a enemy ship.
I personally think that we need more unconventional design ships; namely the "sunfish cannon" style with a platform separating the two, hovering in place. A scaled-down version of this ship would be awesome to watch in actual combat; maybe as a successor to the Medrengard if you upscale it just enough to have a front covered in guns and weapons
Lath, you should have it so it looks like a small floating city/castle that moves around on the water, then when an enemy appears, lights turn red and it rises out of the water to meet the opponent with a massive cannon.
I love the design of this craft, I’d love to see two double mini guns on either side of the cram cannon or something, btw I love your channel it’s come so far and I look forward to seeing where it’ll go in the future

Sees the thumbnail. Thinks to myself "Ohh a drunk Lathrix video, gotta see this..." And for Lathrix's next trick, a flying castle... with a DOOOOOM Cram cannon complete with disco lights. It's starting to look like a villain vehicle from TRON.
Hi Lathrix, Doom Cram fan here- 3D Diamond tetris is still going to be your best for efficiency. Although 6-way connection can actually be cheaper on CRAM parts, its space efficiency is lower and the cost of armoring the extra gun radius ends up making it less efficient than 5-way connection. Mixing explosive AND frag will actually bring the reload time -down- for some reason compared to having entirely one or the other. I -believe- that the explosive actual cap is at a 60m radius currently (the hidden cap) but things change in the game so fast I'm not for sure for sure. At a certain point, there gets to be so much kinetic damage that adding only a little bit of hardeners is sufficient with proper fusing and more is either wasted damage or overpen. I've tested with some 70k resource DOOM Crams (unarmored) set for just over 24 seconds. It's capable of firing the equivalent of very good normal CRAM shells at 10 second intervals. Likewise- with two DOOM cram properly configured, Borderwise has proven it's possible to overwhelm the Meg's LAMs and take it out that way. :J
Hey lath next time you do a campaign do challenge that makes you have to build ships that exist in real life like carriers, cruisers, destroyer etc it would be nice to see a challenge like this.
This reminds me of airships conquer the skies. Maybe have 2 more side crams on the side. Keep it thin too. Also add some simple aa weapons that are mounted on circular mounts on the side and the bottom.
I love Gunns with ships around them. My favourites are somewhat glasscannony with enough defensive capacity to not get wasted bismark style, but still be a suportive second row shipp.
Top and secondary weapon option in one: a secondary attack craft Also considering time to target AC secondaries could potentially help the main cram reach the target by soaking some of the active defenses before the cram arrives
Next thing added to it should be LOADS of small AA/flak guns (most likely flak to fit the theme of explosions everywhere) around the rim of the centerpiece, REALLY complete the picture of what's essentially a LITERAL flying fortress of death and carnage... or chaos, if you will...
Use the damage debug feature in the V menu! HE radius is maxed at 30m or 35m, if I remember correctly. Above that the explosion "snaps" to the nearest target inside the radius shown in the tooltip (larger than maximum), as a dev explained. This is meant to make APS Flak better against flying targets and maybe it means that your 100m explosion deals damage to enemies about 100m away from the center if it misses. Check what happens if you miss an enemy by about 50m. Also doom CRAMs are not required to have a very low reload time if you make them big enough and are happy with "just" 1 million damage. Just look at Borderwise.
Fragments vs Explosives isn't all or nothing.
You can max out the explosives to the radius, and add fragments on top of that to supplement it further. Massive shells are the most effective this way.

I believe that the explosive radius cap for CRAM cannons is 29-ish meters, I might be wrong though.
Intro starting with total mass destruction with no survivors followed by laughter: yep, that’s Lathrix
I've been waiting for a doom cram for as long as I've been watching lathrix
Lathland : What kind of weapons should this craft have?
The whole community : YES!
If they ever increase the max size of cram cannons we are going to have to start calling them loom crams because of the shadow that they cast over a enemy ship.
Honestly looking back lathrix is who sent me down the spiral of 40k XD
Way back with his nurgle campaign playthrough way back
I personally think that we need more unconventional design ships; namely the "sunfish cannon" style with a platform separating the two, hovering in place. A scaled-down version of this ship would be awesome to watch in actual combat; maybe as a successor to the Medrengard if you upscale it just enough to have a front covered in guns and weapons
"The only real cure for hangovers is *explosions"* -Lathrix's Aunt
I like the idea of someone being hungover and play a game mainly about loud explosions and breakage.
Lath, you should have it so it looks like a small floating city/castle that moves around on the water, then when an enemy appears, lights turn red and it rises out of the water to meet the opponent with a massive cannon.
I love the design of this craft, I’d love to see two double mini guns on either side of the cram cannon or something, btw I love your channel it’s come so far and I look forward to seeing where it’ll go in the future
lathrix: loads gun with malicious intent
crew: sir what do we do now sir
lath: make that enemy craft into a pile of scrap
crew: sir isn't that a overkill with those canons
BANG
lath: too late
there's no such thing like overkill only varying degrees of certainty. Be.Damn.Certain.
I like seeing the gun split. It's cool to see two massive doom shots instakill a ship
so, a MAC cannon.
I love it
Sees the thumbnail. Thinks to myself "Ohh a drunk Lathrix video, gotta see this..."
And for Lathrix's next trick, a flying castle... with a DOOOOOM Cram cannon complete with disco lights. It's starting to look like a villain vehicle from TRON.
I absolutely love how that ship looks with the guns on top and bottom, it's a giant DOOM SPIRE
Hi Lathrix, Doom Cram fan here-
3D Diamond tetris is still going to be your best for efficiency.
Yo, Lathrix, you should try to do a battleship type campaign focusing around CRAM cannons.
I love Gunns with ships around them. My favourites are somewhat glasscannony with enough defensive capacity to not get wasted bismark style, but still be a suportive second row shipp.
I'm of the opinion that massive missiles with massive cram is the best compliment to its explosive glory :)
Sir, the enemy's boat has cannons!
Well luckily our cannon has a boat.
Fr
Top and secondary weapon option in one: a secondary attack craft
Also considering time to target AC secondaries could potentially help the main cram reach the target by soaking some of the active defenses before the cram arrives
Honestly the music fits this so well especially 6 minutes in it fit very well
A cool thing would to have 4 of these tilted at 45 degrees in a X formation orbiting a center craft.
You should make it like a robot and you split the cram and make it arms with explosive Gatling guns
Next thing added to it should be LOADS of small AA/flak guns (most likely flak to fit the theme of explosions everywhere) around the rim of the centerpiece, REALLY complete the picture of what's essentially a LITERAL flying fortress of death and carnage... or chaos, if you will...
Cram cannons only campaign, where this is your flagship. Make it happen, I need it in my life.
2 ftd videos in a matter of few days ? that must be a dream come true !
Love the vids man :)
And here we see Lathrix build the marine equivalent of the UNSC Infinity.
