You see ivan, you want to drive tank into water, because that is where enemy will not be expecting for tank to be.
Wait is Ivan his real name?
No comrade, is joke because russians are funny
We are funny right until you make us angry
Fun fact some t34s actually could crawl along the bottom of rivers in order to cross them
Ahh Russian Engineer, agressive on the eyes but extremely practical in nature.

And the reason is the difference in pressure and resistance.
Imagine the sinking harpoon ship if you were in a fleet, you are just sailing along and then BOOM suddenly one of the ships next to you just disappears into the depths
changes the name of the game to “Into the Depths”
Literally become the name of the title.
Would be interesting if YOU were in a fleet that has factories for these on ship. It would be an interesting idea.

Just has a hatch on the bottom that opens up and drops them.
Release the kraken
This is clever because people focus their armour in the top and sides but never at the bottom.
Heh... I have things for cariers... and this gives me idea for super cheasy submarine carier...
We should call them gators because that's the same thing gators do they either crush your spine or normally grab and pull you underwater
yeah, i built a sub that was designed to shoot up into the barely armored hull bottom, i used guns bc of the super cavitation base that nearly entirely negates the water penalty

I suggest calling those mines “The Kelpie” as the Kelpie is a mythological horse who lures humans onto its back, traps them there with magic, then drowns them.
Or "the siren" Because they lure sailors into deep water and drown them.
Or kraken cause of the "tentacles"
we are gonna need thema nd soem crab for res colection maybe a turtle
or bobbit worm, it's an aquatic worm that buries itself in the sand and then, when a fish gets near, lurches up and grabs the fish with its large mandibles (this thing feels kinda familiar for some reason)
I just call em seamines.
Ship: oh, I can't see anyone, im safe.
Lathrix: yoink

Also that crewmate was fired while drowning. Something we can all appreciate
@@evangiorgio816 wait, could those mine thins possibly work on AIRBORNE TARGETS?!? IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES OF THOSE THINGS.
The drown mines are pure evil... I love them. Name suggestion: Hydra, after the little sedentary water predators with tentacles, covered in cells that discharge tiny neurotoxin-filled spikes upon contact. Oh, and they are immortal, btw.
name suggestion for the drown-mines: 'The Kraken'
they're scary, deep in the ocean and devouring their enemies by pulling them under water.
If you make them sing (maybe with the voice example at 3:00) you could call them sirens
make them sing an off pitch tune if there's been a way to add music added to the game
im so happy i wasn't the only one who saw that.
why is the voice example an anime girl is that just default idk cause I'm new and haven't really looked around the menus in the game
@@tomaszturek2224 somewhere in the comments Lathrix answered a similar question. apparently it's a feature/block in the new beta, to map specific ship actions to mp3 files. the anime one is an example put in by the developer of FtD. but don't ask me for details I don't even own the game.
Kraken Mines
As a Name suggestion for your Drowning-Drones:
Call them Sirens.
Just a little Quote why:
"Siren, in Greek mythology, a creature half bird and half woman who lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness of her song"
I think, that the "song of EMP", delivered by the sweet notes in torpedo-form, drowning the sailors seems fitting ;)
Awesome idea
This one is my favorite by far :D
My exact thought. Lol
And in some versions they drag sailors to the depths which makes it even better

Thank the Wyvern, I thought I had to not be lazy and write some lore
Now back to procrastinating
Quick question, why thank the Wyvern?
@@fusroda_2046 It’s part of the lore I created for one of my other projects, it doesn’t trave much to do with FTD but I say it as a religion-neutral expletive. You can find it all over my comments, so it’s not exclusive to Lathland
But to explain it more:
Long ago, there were species of all kinds, but the controlling factions were the Dragons and the Wyverns. The Dragons were tied to this realm, giving them more power, eventually they became so powerful, they almost rivalled the creator gods, but those gods are just a myth, as far as we know. The Wyverns, however, were partially tied to the Ethereal Relam, and thus had more magic ability, but less strength. On a day know as ‘The Choice’ all known Wyverns gave up their spiritual powers in favour of more reliable forms. The war then began. Humans and Dragons and Wyverns all fought for reasons that have been lost to time. Some Wyverns assumed Human forms, and had off spring.
After a long and gruelling war, the most powerful Wyvern and the leader of the Wyverns known as ‘Lavander’ separated an entire continent only for Wyverns and the decedents of Wyverns to live in peace and isolation.
This single handedly saved the Wyvern race, as Humans and Dragons would have certainly killed them all had they had enough time.
And so that is why we thank The Great Wyvern Lavander, as he saved us all form the brink of death
Coward
Tank: The Keelhaul is one of the few defensive vehicles built by the cult, launched either from dedicated carriers or special stations on shore, their small size and slow approach belie their true threat.
Keelhauls crawl along the very bottom of Neter’s oceans, striking the poorly defended undersides of whatever draws too close with heavy torpedoes, or ambushing landed units with missiles to block their retreat. Their defenses are sub-par, especially by the high standards of the Cult, instead it relies upon its lower-than-a-submarine depth and surprising stealth to strike unprepared targets where most weapons cannot reach and often from angles the detection system for torpedoes cannot effectively track. Their firepower and subtlety make the Keelhauls the perfect patrol craft and the bane of any scout or infiltration team as they are exceedingly difficult to detect without being found in turn, an often fatal mistake with the “shoot anyone who asks questions” policy of the Cult.
The foremost counter to Keelhauls is often light submarines with torpedoes built with good range or tracking, however their low cost makes this a often disproportionate affair. Instead the best option is to deploy air units to drop sonar equipment ahead of ship or fleet to detect their presence and then either use long range torpedoes, or aircraft fit for anti-submarine duty. Additionally, despite their impressive record, Keelhauls are notoriously short ranged vehicles, only able to operate for short periods of time and carry only a few volleys of ammunition, Keelhauls are reliant on carriers to operate for any extended period beyond land, and without them quickly become combat ineffective.

He did it! I can't believe he actually did it!
I had asked a while back and Lathland the mad genius did it!
By the by: Building with lead is inefficient, use lead for the ballast as usual but heavy armour and metal are better for the top as they are non-buoyant and a lot better for defence.
Yup! It's why the end design has no lead at all except the bottom, the first 'block' I built was more to test buoyance :)

@@Lathland what about calling them Plague Crawlers
Cuz Papa Nurgle wants to drag you into a Loving hug...of death

they are more expensive though and susceptible to emp, I made an underwater tank using only stone and rubber, its a lot cheaper (6500) and the stone core sinks easy while the rubber exterior lowers its detection signature
I think you should go for a mixture of the "drown mines" and the ocean crawler. The idea of having an underwater tank which can drown enemy ships has this cursed, chaotic energy and I love it to bits.

I feel like the "amoeba" could be called the "Kraken" instead and you could increase the weight, size, and the amount of harpoon hooks to drag the ships down to the bottom of the sea like the kraken. I love the videos! Keep it up!
I suspect that one of the extant ships in the game is already called a "Kraken." But I do appreciate the tentacled theme, so I suggested the "R'LYEH Mobile Mine" as a call out to the one oceanic tentacled horror that makes Krakens look tame.
@@anthonylamonica8301 why not go full horror and go for cthulu?
Oooh yesss cthulu indeed would be best
Sundew? They usually drown their prey.
@@TlalocTemporal that is a good suggestion but how about a more sea based name? Is there a sea creature that lures in their prey then eats them?
Bro imagine doing an entire campaign with the rule of only using ocean crawlers. That would be so cool. Think of all the lore ideas you could have too.
It would probably be fish people starting a rebellion but can't breath in air and have only sunken ships aircraft and their god is the panzer of the lake
it would also be very boring since a lot of crafts can't hit subs
Wouldn't flying enemies be super hard to kill?
@@CowCommando Not if you built a thruster and propellor into the same harpoon
Simple and deadly, a brutal combination.
If it involeves Lathrix drinking rum it's always interesting
its also more than likely going to be brutaly effective in combat
At 3:00 there is an anime girl voice example
Petition for latherix to make weekly drunk videos.
Lathland and rum go together like rushans and...
And generally deadly
3:00 Interesting Voice example
It's automatically that one
The tank: Mantis Srimp
The mines: Call of Nautiluss [Too small and "harmless" for a Chtulu]
I'm glad someone else thought of mantis shrimp. Its very fitting.
As for the mines I'm thinking Sea Anemones.
People are starting to notice the voice example, so heres a vid, by BorderWise, talking about the patch that added the example, (with demonstration) th-cam.com/video/Fy_e7DySYp0/w-d-xo.html
Lathrix you are the one who got me to buy From the Depths. I have an addiction now
Name suggestion for the mines: "Sea Anemones"
I don't know, they kind of remind me of them for some reason.
Probably all the little tethers coming out the top.
You could actually do both weapon types, when it gets too close to an enemy it releases a massive swarm of high velocity mines.
Love the FtD stuff, keep it rolling (but irl stuff comes first ofc)
Perhaps name the amoeba after a species of Ground Spider? They shoot webs at their target like that to immobilize their prey. Two genera that sound cool are Drassodex And Drassyllus
yes, this is what I need in my life, lath’s vid at last
I really like these kinds of videos because it gives a window into your unique design process
My god those 'seamines' as you call them are really things of nightmares. Maybe a good name for them is "Medusa". My reasons are that they basicly drag the enemy to a certain depth and paralize them on the spot. And if you are using emp harpoons it works even better because then you could see the emp effect as an electric shock of a jellyfish and the cables of the harpoon as its tentacles, btw the adult stage of a jellyfish is called medusa.
Well I know what I'm building next...
Also name suggestion would be the Trilobite for either the submarine-tank or drowning mine
Lathland re add the subtle messages to adventure mode.
sailing along, nice calm ocean, maybe a bit of a breeze through a port hole, when all of a sudden the sonar system blares out at torpedo warning, followed not by explosions, but a dozen thumps and shudders, and all of a sudden you are launched against the ceiling as your ships gets dragged down from the surface.
"I'm a good guy and nice all around!" (Immediately laughs evilly)
.......Riiiiiiiiiggghtt. 😳
Now now. We are all good guys. And the sandwich I'm eating was not in the fridge at work... *glances away, takes another bite*
Both of these builds are fantastic!! Yes we need more of these types of videos! Now you need to combine the concepts, make a giant crawler with a huge central drill on top and harpoons all around the edges. Then you have the “finishing move” you mentioned the mines were lacking.
I want to see a nuke launcher mounted on an underwater tank, maybe extremly boyant nukes that explode at a certain altitude or something like that
Reverse depth charges lol
I really like watching you build things. It teaches me things about the game and I also enjoy watching you fix problems on the spot.
You know what would be cool? Two ocean crawlers, one that has harpoons that drags enemy ships under the water, and another one that has a massive torpedo to tear through armor. You could call them “The Kraken Twins” or something like that.
Scylla and Charybdis
@@martindinner3621 those are much, much, better names
You beat me to it! I was thinking of trying to build a battery powered seafloor tank, but I'm glad someone with much better skill at building is going to show me how it's done now
God damn, you need to use those "Sea urchins" more, that is how ill call them. Drowning your enemies? i would like to see a full build with them, that could even kill fliers XD
The tank reminded me of the American M50 tank. Great video!
Im a simple person, i see torpedo and tank i click
For the underwater drowner-mine, what about calling it a "Vodnik?"
It's a mythological creature, a water-dwelling man-thing that sometimes drowns people, and stores the souls of those they drown in porcelain teapots. The Drowners from the Witcher series of games are sort of based on them--they're only referenced in the books, and the translations aren't consistent about what they're called, so the games are the first time we officially see one.
Tank Tussle S4: The army of Davy Jones' Locker
lathrix: I'm a good guy
also lathrix: BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD
The sea mines should be called the man o war or some kind of jellyfish name since it paralyzes the enemy
I like seeing your thought process behind builds, I suck at this game, so seeing someone who sorta breezes through explain his thoughts helps a lot

The Paralysing and draging of the mines remind me of a cone snail. admittedly not the most terrefying name.
Unless you know what a cone snail is.
I was looking in the comments if someone had made that suggestion. It's a snail with a poisonous stinger, perfectly apt description of this weird lovely thing.
Lath i love your "hero ship builds" your simply ending the fight before it starts with those evil little mines
2:59 umm whats That picture at the voice example
Can you call the drowning things Draugen
Draugen are from Norse mythology
If you died at sea and didn’t get buried you could become a draug or Draugen a zombie like creature covered in sea shells and seaweed
When a ship sailed by they would try to drown them so they could join the Draugen
I love watching people build stuff in FtD, I would like to see more of the internals as-well. I love to see your Tetris for your engines/Adv Cannons. Thanks, can't get enough of your FtD videos, in-fact I think its the only thing I watch of yours for the last 2 years.
Now how do you build a tank that drives on air?
With difficulty
Tank plane
Those drowning mines are hilarious, scary as hell, and *absolutely* evil. That image of countless tentacles appearing from the bottom of the screen and just yanking down the ship was freaky and awesome. I'd absolutely love to see the design for those, especially if you finish it up a bit more. Probably a good idea to turn off the propellers when they are lurking in wait, but that was just wonderful.
Has the name “Undertaker” be used already?
Edit: I also think the name “Siren” works too.
I love how this ocean crawler turned out, viciously efficient and adorably derpy, a brilliant recruit for the Lathrixian forces.
Praise the algorithm!
we are now getting into the literal "from the depths"
I had an anchored craft with the same concept as your "drown mines" I called them Anemones and they were built to be a static resource pipeline each one would transfer resource to the next up to the front line
This seems like something Russia would make
There is something BMP-ish about it that I can’t put my finger on
They probably already have tested it, lol
The terrestrial zippiness is because the tank normally drives in a much denser medium- there's a lot more drag in water than air, so moving into air frees up a lot of energy in the wheels to make it go very nice and speedy.
The skiddiness is probably inertia from the lead. A heavy object takes more force to change its direction, and there's only so much frictional force you can get from the wheels, so a heavy tank will take a few more moments to cancel out its sideways momentum with its wheels. Underwater, the water drag does most of that work, and the wheels thus need much less friction to control it.
3:00 Voice example?!?!?!?!?!? Can I get an explenation
its an interesting block i must say
It's in the FtD beta patch - You can add voices to your AI, and of course they went with THAT sort of voice for the sample set up!
This means you can have your AI spit out Chaos Space Marine voicelines.
What is that That Annamae chick doing in from the depths
@@Lathland Thanks for the explanation
You know i love watching your thought process while building
1 view 11 seconds, no comments
Maybe first?
Glad your back with a fresh concept
i love every FtD video ya put out... Honestly, I probably would watch the tendrils sink every existing ship down just like at the ending. Something about that...machine you built...very satisfying lol
(something just for fun/an idea: Add a drill that shoots up into the belly of the enemy when the tendrils start to pull them underwater)
You’re a really creative builder I really enjoy your designs and seeing how they perform. Would you ever consider doing build videos with like a montage of the craft performing in combat? I think a lot of people would enjoy it you could even do weird stuff like a galleon in space or a literal moving wall with guns
For the drowner mines I'd recommend a name like Kelpie which were Scottish horse spirits who tricked people into riding them so they could pull them underwater and drown them.
*@Lathland* 18:00 Name suggestion: *"The Barnacle"*
(IRL references: They sit on a surface under water, they don't move much)
(Half Life references: They have a long "tongue" to catch, hold, real in & kill their target. And again they sit on a surface )
Oh, good giddy aunt, I can see it now..
Being pulled down into the depths of the oceans, to be greeted by the maw.
A mouth of blades, and (For a lack of better words) sharp pointy bits. Some spinning, Some laying still, waiting to be fed.
Churning entire fleets into scrap. Slowly creeping along the entire world.
I love it, I need it. That's it, I'm making one!
This has inspired me to begin creating a true “Ocean Crawler”. Designed like the Sand Crawlers from Star Wars. Imagine being a DWG Pirate and seeing a giant Sand Crawler slowly come over the waves onto your beach like a landing craft.
The first video I remember watching was the introduction of the Trilobite
All these years later, you made a good representation of what a Trilobite would be WITH TORPEDOES
Love these videos where you show off random or proof of concept designs
The drowning mines should be called Kraken spawn, and you should make a large one with tank tracks and an emp PAC named Great Kraken which spawns the kraken spawn
Ok the whole huge ocean-floor crawler thing sounds awesome. Now I want to make that. It would be completely impractical, but that fiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnneeeeeee.
I love the "drown mines." They kinda make me think of bobbit worms. If you added some spikes on some closing mandibles that would finish the look.
I know this is over a month old, but I'm suddenly reminded of "Little Willie" or the first tank with that lead brick with wheels. makes me happy.
i definitely want to see more of the drown mines seeing something just suddenly going from being comfortably afloat to suddenly being pulled under is extremely satisfying
if i where to build it id add an obesely long spike with a ram on it to the top and call it Vlad's auto impaler
MORE BUILD MORE i really love this Concept and i would love to see a whole Line of Ocean crawler vehicles cuz this is just too amazing.
The things that pull the ships to the bottom can either be the kraken or the barnacle because barnacles do slow ships down as they attach to them which is why they have to go into dry dock to remove them from time to time
regarding your second design, I experimented with a vessel with the same principle when I started playing From The Depths (I call it the sea anemone), however, I greatly underestimated how much engine power it would take to hold it down AND pull others down to it. I gave up the ideas when I could not make a good enough engine, but it could be I have to reconsider it now.
Not exactly a unique name, but "Charybdis" comes to mind for the drown mines, since it is the name of a sea monster that was later thought to be a natural whirlpool that drug ships underwater.
I for one love these "Lath builds weird things" insights. It is a game that is 80% building things, after all.
The testing/experimenting videos are my favourite, I still remember watching all the vids lathrix made when he was still learning the more basic concepts of FTD (pre advanced cannon even iirc)
Seeing those harpoon mine vehicles has given me an idea: 1 large vehicle with the same harpoons but also large arrays of spinning rams (maybe even folding arms with more spinning rams on) called the Kraken. The bigger the better!
A new video, I hope it’s going to be as unique as the others have been, keep up the good work Lathrix!
I feel like a name to do with sea urchins would fit the drowning things and if you add rams and shell it would look like one
A mine with wheels? and tentacles?
The dark gods certainly work in mysterious ways...
Seacrawlers are so underlooked, yet can be almost invisible to sonar irl as it’s really close to the seabed irl, and can be very quiet while moving, the downside is that they can’t deal with trenches all too well, and are a threat to coral
Lath, i think kraken mines would be perfect for the drown mines. Because just like the kraken, they lie in wait for unsuspecting ships to come by, then suddenly be dragged below the waves along with its crew into Davy jones' locker
Anything From The Depths is greatly appreciated and wanted by me. Also the ocean crawler looks like an underwater ADATS Anti Air. If you need help designing a tank Lath, then look at real life images of tanks.
I had an interesting idea I'd love to see lathrix try, a smaller fast moving skimmer craft that speeds towards an enemy and circles it from a quite short distance, the weaponry is mounted on a turret so that the craft can aim at high speed, I was thinking something cheap and light with like one devastating missile on a turret as a thought but I'd love to see what he comes up with instead
You HAVE to call the Drown Mines the "Kelpie". It's PERFECT.
idc if this was years ago we need a series on this
I feel like these two concepts could easily be combined into a single, larger minelayer vehicle. It would have the actual missile mines and/or torpedoes, probably on a turret on the side or with considerably clearance to avoid the clipping issues, and additionally could make and deploy two downsized versions of the 'drown mines' (I like the name 'sirens' for them, since they drag ships to crush depth) - one which targets smaller vehicles and pulls them under to crush them with the water pressure, and one which targets larger vehicles but doesn't pull them in too far, instead doing everything in its power to remain in place, and by extension restrict the movement of what it has attached to.
call the drown mines the sea urchins, the cables for the mines reminded me of the spikes on a sea urchin
Honestly, I love the rocket truck/tank look
For the tanks you could have like a base on an island where they launch from then return to at the end of the battle like planes on an aircraft carrier and for the drown mines you should call it the sea urchin. Love the vids and keep up the good work and hope things get better
Lathrix seeing one of your videos pop up in my notifications bar makes my day(especially ridiculous tests like this and the huge missiles one) I really do hope things get better with your family and can't wait to see more content once every things better
I like watching you building videos its satisfying to see how you can take nothing and make it these amazing machines.
