Still relevant. Had an issue with the washer draining. Pulled it apart. I immediately saw a senge on the metal housing and a broken wire. Wasnt the switch. Fixed the wire and the washer works fine. This video helped me out.

Tim, your video was perfect. I am a 71 year old woman. My lid switch needed replacing. I was very worried about the cost of a repair.
However, because of this video I was able to take care of the situation ALL BY MYSELF. Thank you for the very clear steps and great video.

You hit the nail on the head. It was the switch activator that broke off. I checked the switch after watching your video and found the problem. You saved me an expensive repair bill. Thank you for taking the time to help us all out.

Thank you! Thank you!! I already bought a new washing machine from homedepot. It will be delivered on aug 23, 2022, tues. Friday, I stumbled on your video. I checked my washing machine, and that part switch was broken. I disassembled the machine following your step by step instructions. I ordered the part from amazon. I was so anxious because I wasn't sure if I got the right switch because Kenmore doesn't exist anymore. Today, Sunday, i got the switch, installed it and I called Jesus' name and praised and thanked Him, because my washing machine started working again, like new. Your video saved me a lot of money. Tomorrow, I will call Homdepot and cancel the order. THANK YOU!!!!

Great video. This absolutely did the trick for the Kenmore not draining. $9 repair from amazon. The trickiest part for me was getting the housing back on the machine after replacing the lid switch. Good luck to all!

Thanks for the video. I was able to fix my Kenmore. HOWEVER, I had 2 screws on the bottom of the cabinet that hooked it down. It did not lift off easily as in the video. I had to tip it over to get to the underside. After I unscrewed the cabinet from the base underneath I was able to follow your step by step instructions. Just wanted to give a "heads-up" to anyone who encounters the bottom screws. Thanks again.

Great video, Tim and all involved. The tip about supporting the lid switch from the bottom and trying it was terrific help, and this saved me from trying to wire around the lid switch like another video suggested, to check if the lid switch was the problem, which it was. This tip also saved me from potentially trying other things that other videos suggested. Playing the sound of the lid switch clicking was also very helpful. My lid switch was coming apart just like the faulty one removed in your video. When I was testing the lid switch for the click sound by pressing it down with a screwdriver from the top, I noticed that it did not pop back up very well, in addition to lacking the clicking sound. Thank you!

I have the same washer. The inlet valve stopped working and wouldn't dispense hot/warm water. The part was roughly $30 and took a few minutes to install.
He could have cleaned the rust and corrosion from the clip that he took off the old switch before he installed it on the new switch. Keep your parts clean.
If your handy with tools and want to learn these appliances are fairly easy to repair. The most common part to replace on a dryer is the heating element. My Dad was able to keep a dryer going for years by replacing the heating element. I'd say he got his money's worth out of that dryer. He finally replaced it after 22 years. They can last longer than that.

The adhesive that secures the both halves of the housing is where it fails, not the switch components in the housing. Simple solution is to use a cable tie right behind the rotating arm; the cable will secure both halves of the housing creating a compressional force to prevent the adhesive from separating from housing and now the switch will last much longer and depend on the internal switch comports to wear.

Wow! Thanks so much for this tutorial. My Kenmore washer only washes clothes. It stopped at the rinse and drain cycle. Someone told me that it may be the filter may need cleaning or that pump needs replacing. I'm not sure what the problem is because it may also need a new switch or a new timer. Don't want to buy all the parts just to find out that it only needs one or the other.
