Thank you so much! We received this older washer in a barter trade (us older folks know what that is). I had a newer washer and it went out 2 weeks after the warranty expired. Truthfully, I never liked the new washer. Our clothes never seemed as clean as I am used to and everything tangled in it. I loved this washing machine. When it didn't drain, I researched and thought it may be the pump after checking the drain hose. We replaced the pump...still wouldn't drain. My wonderful hubby (of 40+ years) and I followed your video...and Ta-da!!!! I am catching on the laundry tonight. God Bless you and yours always!!

Tad... Great solution. I fix cars, no clue about appliances. After spending $75.00 on a timer assembly I misdiagnosed, I ended up here. Just clipped and grounded the two wires together with electrical tape, and had the washer running again in 5 minutes. Thanks so much.

I spent a bunch of time this morning, emptying out the tub and hand wringing my clothes.
I know nothing about washers, so I was ready to junk it and go looking for a cheap replacement (not much money to spare) anyway....decided to do a youtube search just in case someone like you could help. Well you sure did! Thanks so much. It took me all of five minutes and now I'm back in business.

Thank you for sharing this. I have the exact same washer with the same problem. I tried your bypass trick and it started working instantly. We had a washer full of water and clothes and using this technique was able to get it back up and running in no time. After watching your video what I did was cut the left and right wires off at the other connector and just connected them directly. You have saved us a big repair bill/service call and a trip to the laundromat. Thanks again -- Grady Christie

  • @Razmear
    @Razmear 11 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks Fryer, now I have work clothes for tomorrow and our 10 year old washer lives to see another day.
re: wire size. I used 14 guage solid wire that I snipped off the end of a roll of Romex. On my second attempt to get the wire into the connector I cut it in sort of a wedge shape and lined it up with the verticle slots in the connector and jammed it home, It fit tight enough that the electrical tape was more for decoration than insulation.
    Thanks again!

The 148 people who didn't like this video must be appliance repair guys who are mad that they are missing out on some money. This worked like a charm, took only a few minutes, and we were able to finish up our laundry. I also followed the link provided to learn how to replace the switch.....which I just ordered on Amazon for about ten bucks. I was moments away from heading to a second hand store to buy another washer. Now I am a couple hundred dollars ahead, and will soon be replacing the switch and making my washer good as new again. Thanks

I had a similar problem a few years ago. The switch housing is a plastic clamshell design, and the two halves separated (probably from accidentally slamming the lid a few times) and the switch no longer worked. Instead of replacing the switch with an expensive new one or electrically bypassing it, I cinched the two plastic halves back together with a zip-tie and it's worked beautifully ever since.

    Hey FryerTad,
I am not much of a handyman, and the lid switch died on our kenmore series 70. I looked at getting a new switch and having it installed. 60.00 for the parts and another 70.00 for the service call. That would be half way to a new washing machine. Thanks to your video--thanks to YOU I was able to use wire I had here in the house, a screw driver (I didn't even know I had those) and some wire from and old extention cord and did this by pass. 130.00 fix done for FREE thanks to you! THANK YOU. If you are ever in Nova Scotia the beer is on me--as long as it's under 130.00 :)

Yes, I spent $1.29 for wire and electrical tape and it worked. I thought I would be spending at least $100 for a repair guy to come out. Thanks for the video.

Thanks - saved me a repair bill and hassle just before leaving on a trip and needing clean clothes!

Thanks for this. 17yo Kenmore 70 series up and running. Ordered part for $7.20 through Amazon (free shipping) - service call cancelled.

I used an old power cord too! It was too thin so I stripped the entire thing and doubled the stands, then taped it all back up. Thanks so much! I thought I was going to have to find a way to get all that water out!

Worked like a charm on our Kenmore washer (70 series). Thanks for taking the time to film and post.

Thanks a million. Used 14g wire I found at Home Depot. My plastic switch button- the poker on the lid is supposed to push- broke off mid cycle. I have almost this exact Kenmore washer (mine's 90 series) and not really looking to replace it yet. Dave Ramsey budgeting makes spending any unnecessary money or digging into the emergency fund hard to swallow. Glad I can put off repair or replacement for a while.

Alaina Brooks, that's great! Love Dave Ramsey! Being able to budget a repair is great. We got through baby step 3 and are currently saving for a home.

Thank you brah!! My hubby & I don't have the extra $ RIGHT now or the means to get anywhere due to our head gasket going 2 weeks ago on our car, NOW this. HUGE thanks for the advice on the bypass, blessings to you as yours!

Love this video, sir! I just spent $3.50 to fix this. I would’ve spent 100 times that at least to get another washer. You are a national treasure!!!

Thanks. We are getting ready for a trip to japan and our kenmore stopped. Tried your fix and we're back in business.
I will of course replace the lid switch when we return but this is a cool work around if you have to do laundry and are waiting for your switch to ship.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU! My washer hadn't worked in four mos, I've been hand washing clothes since it broke. (Felt like a frontier woman lol) I knew it was the lid switch, but couldn't afford to get it fixed. I came across your video and now I'm able to use my washer again!! Thanks again!!

Thank you SO MUCH!! I'm 3 weeks away from selling this house and didn't need any more expensive repairs! Blake1484 's idea was great, too--I used a wire nut, re grounded the green wire and I"m good to go!!!!

I was sitting here wondering WTF I was going to do. It was Sunday afternoon, the washer was full of water, and I had a soaking wet comforter. Looked online for a bit and determined it was probably my lid switch. I was still thinking I was screwed until I found your video. Thanks!

Thank you. I just fixed my washer because of this video. The pressure like for the fill level had become unattached.

Thanks for the video! I didn't know where the screws of the control panel were located. I would suggest that instead of using a piece of wire to bypass the switch connections, that you instead cut and join the wires going to the switch. The reason is that the yellow-green (middle) wire connects the washer's body to ground. If you do not connect the yellow-green wire back there is a risk of electric shock (unless there is a second wire connecting the washer's body to ground). Also, place a couple of nylon fasteners over the electrical tape to insure that it does not fall off with the vibration and moisture of the washer. Cheers!

Very easy to do and it worked like a charm. In less than 15 minutes our washing machine was working again. Thank you for creating this video for us normal people. Keep up the good work!
