    Thanks so much for this simple fix! I was already planning to replace my 20-year-old washer and dryer because the dryer started sounding bad a couple days ago. Tonight at 11:00 PM the washer didn't drain. I have company arriving from another state tomorrow and I was already exhausted from trying to finish a DIY room remodel. Two plastic coated twist-ties and I have a temporary fix. Wonderful!

    I already liked your video. But after watching it, then fixing my washer, wanted to leave a comment. I’m so Thankful for people like u & others that freely share info. My switch looked totally different than the one u pulled out, it was all plastic. I tried to keep it together as best I could & used the zip tie. What really helped also was how u pulled the cord out so u could work on the switch. Mine wouldn’t come out at first. You pulled on it pretty good so I tried again & it came out. Much Appreciation❣️

      I was considering using some wire which probably would have worked but it would have rusted, then it occurred to me to double two zip ties x 2. BINGO ! We're back in the saddle! In the future, we'll be able to encase the whole switch in carbonite. It will be safe in there and never fail again. : )

  • @Cedfer69
    @Cedfer69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this. My issue was slightly different but you gave me the confidence to tackle the repair. With the lid open I did get the spin cycle when I depressed the lid switch with a screwdriver but when I closed the lid I could not get the spin cycle. So I figured that the lid switch was still functional. When I took it out I noticed that the portion that is depressed seemed a little stiff so I depressed it a number of times, cleaned it up externally and still put the zip tie around the switch since that seemed to bring everything in a little tighter. Put it back in and it worked. May not get another 20 years on the machine but this saved me a bunch of hassle (and money) around Christmas. Thank you very much.

    Here I was watching all these other guys talking about a sock in the pump, a bad pump, bad timer switch, etc. I did a short inspection and it didn't seem to be as described by others. Scott, when you said "it doesn't spin and doesn't pump" that was the key to my situation. And it's the easiest to check. Took out the two screws, and sure enough, there were two pieces; and upper half and a lower half. Squeezed them together with my fingers and toggled the switch and I could hear the click. Went and got the ziptie. BINGO!!! You are correct! And made me look like the hero to my wife!!!!!LOL! I actually gave you the credit you deserve!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

    Although I'm the one that wants a new washer, great video! Had it fixed and put back together in 3 min. Took longer to find zip ties in the garage. Thank you very much for the video

    OMG this worked! I can't believe I did it. Used packing tape to just get it to drain then will have someone really do it right with zip ties. THANK YOU

    Scott, thank you for posting this video. You saved me hundreds of dollars and lots of time. For about 10 cents worth of zip ties and 10 minutes of my time, my teen son and I were able to secure the lid switch back together and reattach it. Our washer was up and working again in no time. Thanks again for saving my sanity!😁

    GREAT help! My washer would wash, agitate for a while, then stop. Then, after what seemed time for something to cool down or reset, it would agitate again when I restarted it...but never to the end of a wash cycle. I thought it HAD to be the timer, but the same thing after replacing. Was ready to call for help, when I saw this. Why it worked for some of the agitation cycle (3 or 4 minutes, and never near the end of a cycle) is what stumped me. Perfect solution! Thx

    Thanks to you, Dad no longer calls me an overeducated idiot. 🤣
    I followed your video and in less than 10 minutes repaired my Dad's Whirlpool washing machine which had stopped mid-load full of water and wouldn't drain or spin. Thank you for making such an easy to follow step-by-step video.

    Thank you so much for this video. Mine had been out for months and couldn’t afford to get a new one. I couldn’t really see what you were doing to the switch in the video at first but when I pulled the sucker out myself you could see exactly what you’re talking about and it was really easy, once you zip tie it and screw back in it fits so snug you could tell it fixed it even before I tried using it. Thanks a lot for your help.

    Just wanted you to know, that this video just saved my wife and I. During the middle of the Corona virus pandemic, our washer stopped working. We were not sure whether to call someone to come out, or try to go buy another one. With saftey being a concern, I decided to start searching the Internet. That’s when I came across your video. This may have been posted 2 years ago, but I truly appreciate that it was here to help me with a very simple fix when I know nothing about washers. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. This just made our day...

    Thank you so much! We are senior citizens and thought we were going to have to take the machine apart. My husband said this will not work after we pulled out the switch, it didn't seem to be broken but I said do it anyway!! All we have to lose is 10 minutes. It Worked I have been using the machine 3 times a week for two weeks and it is still running great. Thank you

    Thank you! Like another commenter, I'm a 61 year old disabled woman with some tools and zip ties who, after bailing buckets full of water out of a half washed load of laundry, decided to look for a video. Thank God, yours was the first to pop up...and voila! My biggest obstacle was getting the holes to line back up to reinsert the screws (that was 10 out of the 15 minutes it took.) You don't know the gratitude and relief I feel right now...listening to the rinse and spin cycles kicking in! Thank you SO much.

So for that I say thank you again my fine sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar in my book!!!! Haha thanks a lot friend and God Bless you!!!!

    Thanks for this vid. My mom was about to buy a new washer when I told her I could probably find a fix online. Easy fix (although the sockets that I inserted the screws into broke off my switch because of how old it was). I just zip tied those back on too and I was able to screw it back on. Total time was around 20 min.

    Searched on the topic, found this video right away. It's 3-1/2 years later but I'm glad I did!! At the 20 second mark or so when he said lid switch then tested it with a screwdriver I was like a cartoon character with a lightbulb going on over my head. I only watched another minute and half or so and immediately went to grab a phillips head and a zip tie. 5 or so minutes later, problem fixed. Thanks so much, Scott! Super appreciative!
