A small tragic moment in this episode is when Adora says "I am supposed to take care of you. It's the last thing she told me" because what Angela actually said was "Take care of each other". Adora's bad habit of taking responsibility for everyone and everything internalized it without allowing for the part where she needs to be cared for as well.
THANK YOU, this is my hobbyhorse and I've never seen anyone else point it out. She said "take care of EACH OTHER". Adora, sweetheart, let yourself be cared for! And it hurts doubly because she was the only one there to hear Angella's last words, so no one can call her on it....
@@ProdigalDaughterAlice I don’t think Adora wants to expect Glimmer to help her cuz she knows she’s got a lot to deal with, and she minimizes her own feelings in that way. Which can push others away too, since it helps to “bond” over shared pain
What makes it even harder for Glimmer is that since Angella is immortal, she never considered that she might lose her. Glimmer even said to her “you’ll always be around, telling me what I can’t do” and now her mom can’t tell her anything because she lost her :(
I'm having a hard time reconciling that with the ending where Angela seemed very much prepared for her own death (unless that was a seance, not a recording) and the implication that Angela is just the latest in a very long line of monarchs who presumably share Angela's nature.
Both Glimmer and Catra end the episode “on the throne” 😉 Not everyone notices this but they’ve been paralleling each other since season 1 and it’s one of my favorite things about this show.
I find it interesting that Catra cut off her hair in front of her ears, considering that Schadow Weaver had been petting the hair in order to manipulate it in order to escape. She is also now straightening or combing her hair. I also think it's a cool design idea that Glimmer lost weight after her mother's death because it represents her grief process well
Catra and Adora are two sides of the same coin, both responding to their abuse in diametrically opposite but equally deeply unhealthy ways. Adora taking absolutely everything on to her shoulders as it was deeply ingrained in her that she has to be solely responsible for everything and she can never fail as she is the special, the gifted child, the one that can and must do everything. Catra refusing to see any offer of help as genuine as it was deeply ingrained in her that she is beyond worthless and no one would ever actually want to help her, only use her, and if she wants to stay safe she has to do it all herself. The cycle of abuse, Catra is effectively becoming Shadoweaver even though that is the last thing she would ever want. One of the things I love about the show is that it didn't pull any punches with Catra's villainous turn. They don't soft peddle it or sugar coat it or halfass it. She does horrifically awful things as she struggles to keep from drowning as she spirals. No one is beyond hope if given the opportunity and people who refuse to give up on them. Empathy without judgement is an incredibly powerful thing, but it's not easy.
What makes Shadow Weaver an effective villain is that she isn't wrong. She uses the truth like a weapon, to cut relationships apart. But since the truth can be painful, the protagonists refuse to hear it, which gives Shadow Weaver more leverage.
To answer the question in the title: most of the happy was in the first two seasons. From now on it's mostly pain and suffering, but that only makes what little happy there is all the sweeter.
Notice how Swiftwind is being extra annoying, just like Castaspella? That's because they're actually siblings. Glimmer's father Micah wasn't killed, he was transformed into a horse. That's what he was going to tell Angella as she flew off to close the portal. For a moment, Micah remembered he was a horse.
To answer your question, no. There will never be a lighthearted She-Ra episode again. The emotional damage era is in full swing. Also,Interesting facts about Catra's new look; She cut her tufts off because Shadow Weaver was touching them while she was manipulating Catra to escape. Catra also wears the black sleeve on the same arm that was corrupted by the portal, which literally symbolises her embracing the worst version of herself.
I prefer to think that the sleeve shows: That she may not have scars on the outside, but they are still there in her head. That is, the event was much more traumatic than she is willing to admit.
I LOVE the way they ended this episode! Glimmer accepting her new role as queen and immediately cuts to CATRA gaining a new role of power. Really setting up their parrler arcs in this season! The writing is so goood I can die-
Yeah. I honestly kind of hated her this season. Especially after she said a *certain thing* to adora. And she became kind of a huge hypocrite this season imo
What nooooo I love her this season, she becomes sooo much more interesting & a stand out and actually becomes one of my favourite characters, I love how she navigates becoming a leader and now she knows a bit more insight into what her mum had to deal with like the decisions she makes may not be ethically right but will gets results how getting desperate can consume u and how being a leader can be lonely
You may be wondering what's about Catra's change of look. Catra does feel guilty for what she did (as she should). It's like a voice in her head telling her that what she's doing is wrong. Instead of listening to it and changing for the better, Catra is trying to shut it down. Catra's hair was unkempt and all over the place to emphasize her wild nature. Now, her hair is more neat and tidy. She cut off her ear tuffs after Shadow Weaver caressed them while manipulating her. And she replaced the orange tones in her outfit with black. This change emphasizes her attempt to compensate her guilt by removing everything she considers a weakness. Catra is tired of playing lackey, and now she'll take control of every aspect of her life.
Notice how Adora says “I’m supposed to take care of you” when Angella actually said “take care of each other” this is a massive thing that starts off Adora’s martyr and hero complex this season and it’s really sad, because now both Catra and Glimmer have made a habit of blaming Adora for everything that goes wrong or they do wrong, and Adora is super bad at standing up for herself
This season gets a breather when Kyle gets lost and runs into swift wind. It starts out like an interrogation but kyle cant remember any intel and swift wind gets distracted by another idea to impress adora and kyle gets dragged along a horsey fetch quest
16:07 is a pretty interesting glimpse into Adora's mindset. "I'm supposed to take care of you, Glimmer. It's the last thing [Angela] asked me to do". Except, that isn't what Angela asked of her. She said "take care of _each other._" But that's not what Adora heard, it seems.
I know others (above) have pointed this out already, but here, once again, we see the result of SW's abuse. She put all these expectations about Adora's "purpose" into Adora's head, with the result that Adora misinterprets Angella's words, probably without even being aware that she's doing it.
I think there's a happy moment in episode 7 somewhere, when Swift Wind catches Mermista playing with her "action figures", but really, that's about it this season. Oh, and the bit where Scorpia has to give Catra a bath - that's some karmic hilarity right there. But nothing else, though. Episode 9, especially, is going to beat the everlovin' crap out of your emotions and leave them bleeding in an alley somewhere.
wow i can't believe you're already at season 4! this is so exciting, i love this season, probably the best season for character studies and development.
Notice how Adora said she's supposed to take care of Glimmer, when Angella's actual last words were "Take care of each other." But Adora has been raised to believe that it's her job to protect and defend the people around her, even at the cost of her own sake.
The stinger at the end where Hordak retreats into his ‘Secret Chamber’ is definitely a hint to upcoming plot lines… If you freeze frame it at the right moment, you’ll see a couple “action figures” on the back wall, of He-Man and Skeletor, as well as a plushie that looks similar to Snarf… I would say he’s got a Hamish plushie in there as well, but that’s be too obviously a fake spoiler…
Big Brother Hordak is coming, okay to prepare to fight him we will need two small children from Earth, a cute robot-cyborg maybe...tiny dog, a villain having a crisis of consciousness, and the magic of Christmas,
Pretty interesting that 'Coronation' can kinda apply to both Glimmer and Catra here. Very interested to see how your predictions pan out for what's coming up. Also, you being progressively more 'done' with Glimmer's aunt (Castaspella, god that name :P) was very funny.
and when Lance breaks control just long enough to throw himself between George and Bow... Let's just say many hearts got ripped out at that moment IYKWIM.
Wait until you get to season 5, the intro changes sometimes on an episodic basis. Also there are happy cry moments. Like when Scorpia finally gets a girlfriend who treats her right. As well as sad moments like her Emily sacrifices herself to save Entrapta from "Big Brother"
Glimmer is going to be so much fun when her wings grow in and she starts shooting beams! I'm excited for you to see her training arc! Glimmer and Adora are going to get so much closer with them training together with Madame Razz 😊
Just as a reminder, character´s names in this show are usually words related to the character´s thing. For example, the aunt casts spells, so her name is Castaspella.

(not so) fun fact about this episode's title: "The Coronation" has a double meaning. The most obvious being that Glimmer became queen, but also that at the end Catra was sitting on a throne too. No spoilers, but Glimmer and Catra start to parallel each other more and more this season.

Very important new character going to be added this season. One of Bow's older brothers gets to join the cast and he is just great. I won't spoil which side he is on.
I know this show has been pretty intense lately, but once you get past the episode where Catra uses a hologram of Angella to successfully lure Glimmer into an ambush and kill her, it does actually lighten up a little.
catra and glimmer are both really tested this season, they've both been through the ringer and are presented again and again with difficult choices they don't have the headspace to be making. i think this season becomes rock bottom for them both, but that's the point when they get to try and turn things around (i don't think these are spoilers and i know you're ahead on patreon)
One thing i'd like to point out: Shadow Weaver may have been looking out for her favorite daughter, in her own twisted way. She's experienced first-hand what power can do to a person regardless of how great of a friend they are and how good their intentions are. Remember: She was 'othered' by her fellow mages well before she did the power thing with Micah; they didn't take her opinions seriously and were dismissive of her concerns or attempts to contribute. Whether that was out of racism or something else, it isn't made clear, but she's kinda poc-in-a-rural-usa-southern-community coded in her scenes as Light Spinner. Also, the way she interacted with Micah was similar to her treatment of Adora, which means she likely saw him as a little brother or as her first child; it is unclear how far apart they are in age. She was right to believe that the Horde was a serious threat that needed to be dealt with quickly, even if it means doing so through unconventional methods. The spell got interrupted and went wrong, Micah didn't stay with her to see it through, and the spell rebound onto her in an unintended way, leaving her permanently physically scarred to a point she feels she has to hide her face literally all the time.
Glimmer gets a LOT of character focus in Season 4. I just feel so bad for her in this episode, dealing with so much on her plate when clearly all she wants to do is grieve. Also, take note of certain parallels between her and Catra; I'll say no more than that.
So many things I've never contextualized in a cartoon before. This whole bombing someone with happy to overshadow a recent tragedy isn't helpful in the longrun.
New season! New Catra No! counter! Can't help but wonder if there might be some No counters created for some others characters this season too. >.> lol Super excited for you to be getting even further into the show Mosco!
Stay strong, Mosco - soon, you'll be rewarded with the baking episode, where She-ra and Hordak determine the fate of Sweetsburg through competitive cooking. A real highlight episode for Bow! Seriously, though, the show is ROUGH, emotionally. I feel like it earns the redemptions it gives, but it's gonna put you through the wringer just as much as the characters.
this message is free of spoilers! I’d love to see if you warm up to catra later. I certainly did, and in fact, I always took her as a really complicated and deep character so I never really hated her. But I wonder if your opinion will ever change, looking forward to the rest of the series!

Glimmer gets a LOT of character focus in Season 4. I just feel so bad for her in this episode, dealing with so much on her plate when clearly all she wants to do is grieve.
Also, take note of certain parallels between her and Catra; I'll say no more than that.
Even this episode, the coronation both refers to Glimmer becoming queen and Catra becoming, effectively, the new Horde Lord.
This is the only thing I will say glimmer will never have to recharge her power after this
Hahahaha, oh don’t worry you’ll come back around to Catra
So many things I've never contextualized in a cartoon before. This whole bombing someone with happy to overshadow a recent tragedy isn't helpful in the longrun.
New season! New Catra No! counter! Can't help but wonder if there might be some No counters created for some others characters this season too. >.> lol
Super excited for you to be getting even further into the show Mosco!
Foreshadowing weaver sent me omg xdddddd
@@alora.faye_cos lol thank you! *bows* I do it for the adora-ing(adoring) fans! :P
I don't think Mosco is ready for this season.
can the show gives me a break ? The show : no.
Lol. That shirt.
To be honest, I skipped straight to the final scene, because *dayum* Catra.
this is gonna hurt
Catra got a boob window now!!!
Mosco: Why do I feel like that’s foreshadowing?…
Me: You mean Forshadowweaver? 🤣🤣🤣 RIGHT?!
SO HILARIOUS 🤣
Oh yeah, and Mika’s backstory
HOT CATRA IS HEREEEEE
