I know it's not a lot for rep and they don't get the spotlight that often but it still makes me very happy that they have such an awesome dynamic. I need me more cute villainous polycules in fiction.
Silly? But of course! How else is the show going to get you to let your guard down so it can slam you with an emotional gut punch? Filler? Oh, no. This is the episode that sets up _so many_ important things.
I just can’t wait for her to find out that entrapta was actually double trouble this whole time, and she never went to beast island, but actually turned back into her original form, double trouble and introduced themselves as a new character. Very real spoiler. She’ll never see it coming.
It's really weird that Double Trouble never gets found out. They just get kind of forgotten about in the 5th season, but you still see "Flutterina" in the background every few episodes.
I really like that this show makes sure to give the characters from both the Rebellion and the Horde enough attention. It makes everyone feel a lot more human and doesn't just paint the Horde as generic bad guys or the Rebellion as flawless heroes.
At the same time, the worldbuilding and consistency is basically nonexistent. The world feels too small. These were officer cadets, why are they doing grunt work? Why is the Horde seemingly held together by 5 young adults? I also personally dislike how esoteric the magic/technology system is made out to be. At this point, we know that Etheria is controlled by a First Ones terraforming system with the gemstones being control nodes over certain parts of the biosphere. Yet very little attention is put onto the princesses as administrators of this system or how the network is connected. So when the gemstones come up again in the plot, it gets very exposition heavy since we have not been shown how the world works during the filler moments.
I really loved this episode. It's kind of like a 2-in-1 bottle episode with a lot of emphasis on the characters. For the Adora/Light Hope plot, it's revealed that Light Hope could be (and has been) a very different person, and we're shown a kind of intimate closeness between her and Mara. Plus, it dropped that important-sounding "Heart of Etheria" line at the end, and the concept of balancing the planet. Meanwhile, in the Horde half, we're shown just how much friction they're feeling since Adora left and Catra both gained power and started spiraling. And, finally, genuine concern is shown for Kyle, instead of him always being everyone's go-to scapegoat. Also, Rogelio is cute and great, and Lonnie is absolutely correct, even with her abrasive attitude.
I thought it was pretty obvious with him being blonde and all, but some people took longer than others to notice the resemblance. With the show being She-Ra, it was only a matter of time before He-Man got added.
Kyle, Lonnie and Rogelio eventually become so frustrated with Catra that they defect over to the rebellion. There is a huge amount of tension between Lonnie and Adora though, and this leads to major conflict.
Ah, Kyle's finest hour! Kept his team occupied while they waited for the storm to clear, took action to save them at the cost of direct personal risk and great harm, and got the job done. After all, Rogelio didn't need to do anything to finish fixing the wiring. If he weren't in the Horde he'd probably get a medal.
Catra isn't a cow, she is a silly billy girlbossing her way through the tail end of a BPD spiral. This ends up as a key component of the Heart of Etheria project, as the key weapon to defeat the horde was prophecized to be a mentally ill lesbian with a bra full of grey ration bar crumbs after a 3am depression binge.
Oh, you'll be seeing more of Double Trouble later. That "Among Us" reference you made in the last episode was uncannily fitting. The group ends up on a spaceship, and that's when they first suspect DT. The episode is all about dealing with that situation. They even use the line "there is an impostor among us."
I can't wait to see your reaction when Adora finds out that balancing the planet involves her having to move several mountains to redistribute their weight!

This isn't a fake spoiler 'cause it's not a spoiler at all :p but did you know the creator said on Twitter or somewhere, that they imagined Kyle, Lonie and Rogelio ended up as a "trouple"? :D
Fun fact: it doesn’t actually say it in the show so I’m not spoiling anything but did you know light hope and Mara were a canon couple and that’s probably why she didn’t delete it before because she still wanted to keep some memories of there relationship
I dislike when people call every episode that doesn't progress the plot as "filler". This had Light Hope characterization, Adora's mental state, the trio's thought and shows how Catra's leading impacts the troops and especially Light Hope being sus. If anything the D&D episode was MUCH bigger filler than this, but nobody cares because it was exciting and had fanservice
Don't forget showing Mara! And yeah, Roll With It is generally considered the one "filler" episode of the show. This show has so little what's generally considered filler that I've seen people _wish_ there was some so we could've had more fun times with the characters. But that episode still had stuff like Rogelio being named for the first time, Scorpia's crush on Catra being made more explicit for the first time, and showing Adora's anxiety about things potentially going wrong and her tendency to blame herself. The episode also had slight Scorpia x Lonnie ship tease, which I hear was originally going to be a whole thing before the creators dropped the idea. ND Stevenson actually released some early unused episode concepts once that sounded like they would've been fun chill episodes: - Adora sees a random ordinary cat around and for some reason she becomes convinced it's Catra spying on her in disguise and gets obsessed. - A sexy elf king shows up asking for help. Turns out he is Madame Razz's ex and still interested in her. She couldn't care less. Everyone else wonders what the hell is going on. - Bow finds a forest creature named Kowl and starts to spoil him and obsessively take care of him. Thanks to her She-Ra powers (apparently,) Adora is the only one who can hear him talk and thinks he's super annoying (I'm getting the feeling Stevenson may not have been a fan of him in the og show.) He also decribed one other episode idea that clearly eventually became the episode Promise (in it, Shadow Weaver doesn't remember Catra's birthday which really upsets her [in the actual show celebrating or even acknowledging birthdays isn't a thing in the Horde] and makes some sort of magical trap that traps you inside a pocket dimension. Catra and Adora both end up sucked in and have to work together to escape. It turns out Adora remembers Catra's birthday.) I would have loved to see these lol.
The inconsistency of the acid spores really bothers me, it’s like an old Saturday morning cartoon where there’s a fuse leading to a bomb that quickly goes from long to super short and then that last bit goes back and forth for ten minutes.

Hearing Lighthope being so bubbly is quite funny to me considering the other characters that her VA has played.
The stars in kyle's pupils are foreshadowing for when he becomes steven universe
When Catra collapses with a high fever and is diagnosed with cat flu, we get the Catra cute sneeze.
You think the Horde is a problem now, just you wait until Kyle finds the Sword of Omens and fulfills his destiny by becoming He-Man.

For whatever reason, this episode is one of the ones that really stuck with me. I'm not really in the mood to explain it further, but I just like it.

This season is really pushed forward by many two-faced people. Double-Trouble, Light Hope, Hordak's little Goblin baby, Glimmers Aunt.
Hordak's goblin clone isn't two-faced, he's explicitly loyal to Hordak and not concealing it from anyone.
