Actually I thought it was more like “DT… NO!”
So the whole show in a nutshell is "...NO!" pretty much....😂
It speaks volumes about Catra: the closest thing she has to a friend is someone she is paying.
While yes, Adora was raised in a military, she also switched sides. The thing she likes about the Rebellion is that they don't manipulate each other and use each other as bait. She, more than anyone, would resent Glimmer's actions precisely _because_ she would find them all too familiar.
What plays a more important role here is that this decision stinks of the Shadow Weaver school. And Adora has too much experience dealing with her most successful student, Catra.
Shadow weaver is just the "the worst person you know makes a good point" meme xD
That little exchange at the end between Catra and DT is truely special.
Catra deeply craves love and affection from others, but also believes (subconsciously, at times) to not deserve it.
So she pushes those who just present her with it away, while looking for it with the one person who is being open about not caring for her at all. Because she thinks that’s more honest, in a way.
Catra is basically Blitzø from Heluva Boss that way…
I think both Catra and DT are very psychologically interesting in that exchange! Catra doesn't just find it more honest, I think; I feel like she's subconsciously drawn to Double Trouble because their distance and mercenary nature feels *safer* to her. Catra pushes away anyone who cares about her because that feels like a major weakness (which is frowned upon in the Horde!!), but she does *want* that, so she is ironically drawn to someone who is going "this is a job, I am not your friend." DT feels safer to her than anyone else, but that's because they're not actually going to try being her friend; I feel like if they actually did respond positively to those overtures, Catra's attitude and reactions towards them would have shifted pretty quickly.
And honestly? This scene was also pivotal to my personal understanding of Double Trouble. They're mercenary, yes, but they're also not wrong to be so. They are making it clear at every turn to Catra that this is just business, and it's actually keeping them from getting sucked into Catra's whirling vortex of issues, from being lashed out at the way she lashes out at her actual friends. They can come across as heartless, but it would legitimately be a very bad idea for them to be trying to get cozy with their employer at least in this circumstance, and I can imagine they know (maybe from experience) that that's *usually* a bad idea.
IDK, though, I just think they have a very very interesting dynamic that really showcases how interesting they are as individual characters!
Thhats the thing about Shadow Weaver, she does raise some good points which makes you more inclined to trust her or at least go along with her advice. The problem is, she's SHADOW WEAVER, and she has her own agenda. Thats how she gets you and I love/hate her for it. Awesome character writing, awful person.
It’s that ago ol saying “does the ends justify the means” & that fits well with a character like Shadow Weaver
Trusting Shadow Weaver is like trusting Brits to draw good, well-thought-out borders (I am English btw)
It's amazing how deceptive and manipulative someone can be without uttering a single falsehood
I genuinely believe that Shadow Weaver is petty enough to want to fully destroy The Hord and she knows that helping the Rebellion will help her do that, but her issue is that she doesn’t really care what she has to do or who she has to hurt to do it, all she cares about is victory and if that victory has to involve hurting someone on her side, Shadow Weaver will do it
Shadow Weaver is probably the only example from any cartoon that I can think of of a villain who switches sides and joins with the heroes -- but doesn't change her moral alignment in the slightest. She genuinely wants to defeat Hordak, but is as self-serving and manipulative as ever.

It's a funny line, but could also have a double meaning, as apparently, Daisies contain chemicals that are poisonous to cats. Maybe even humanoid ones.

The problem is Glimmer shouldve at least told Adora, Netossa, and Spinerella what she was sending them in for. They wouldve understood but instead she kept them (especially Adora) in the dark. There was a lost of trust there.

What I find to be the most telling thing in this episode is, even though Glimmer didn't have to choose between killing Catra and saving the woods... we saw which way she was *going* to choose, and I don't think it was a tactical choice. Glimmer was fully prepared to let the Whispering Woods burn if it meant exacting vengeance on Catra.
Double Trouble is absolutely my favorite character in the show. Also...

Can we talk about how Bow got blown up at point blank range and didn’t even lose any of his clothing.
Unlike the trees, which have one portion rooted in place and the break if the rest gets pushed too far away, a human is capable of being knocked back quite a distance and so on. I'm not surprised that he was perhaps only concussed, although I am surprised that he was not knocked back further from the origin point of the blast.
The bomb didn’t blow up Bow, Bow smothered the explosion with his abs.

If I'm actually not mistaken it seems that it's not a "bomb" of the same sense. It's not an explosion so much as it is a pulse of energy. While it clearly had some force it could be that the thing that destroyed the trees was the energy being released. And so Bow actually wasn't apart of the explosion so much as he was likely concussed by the large amount of energy going through him.
I just realized how they foreshadowed with the daisy's, how Double trouble would actually be defeated by the group, since catras allergic to them and DT isnt so DT doesnt sneeze around these flowers when in catra form...actually such a genius move omg 😭
Double trouble really does put their heart and soul into every role
This episode really plants the seeds for Glimmer's villain arc later this season.
I wouldn’t say Villain per say but sets up an antagonistic arc for Glimmer

I love Double Trouble, but of course I do, as a theatre kid that was obvious that this would happen. Also, I like that they get paid, since too many people take art for granted and forget that artistés deserve to get paid.
It's so upsetting how Catra was being genuinely grateful and thankful considering she never is, for having her life saved but then DT asks for money straight after making it sound like she was charged for it. Knowing they may not have saved her/cared for her if they weren't being paid, crushes the feeling of sincerity. Money is the only thing holding their relationship together, not trust or enjoying eachother's company.

Based off Adora's Horde background, being the decoy makes her the Kyle of the group.
True and that is a fate the rest of the horde is terrified of almost as much as beast island.
She-Ra Original Series Lore part -Is-Anyone-Even-Still-Reading-These- 29:
Netossa and Spinnerella were "best friends" (remember, it was the '80s) who came from a land in the far reaches of Etheria, beyond the reach of the Horde. They joined the Great Rebellion after going on vacation to the village of Thaymor in the Whispering Woods and experiencing the situation personally. The Horde captured Netossa and convinced Spinnerella that she was captured by the Rebels, getting her to use her spinning powers to cause a huge hurricane over the Whispering Woods. She-Ra rescued Netossa, and Spinnerella spun in reverse to dissipate the hurricane and undo the damage to the Woods.
Netossa was an expert marksman who could capture any enemy in her net, which she wore as a cape. Her air-headed and oblivious nature was an act to trick her targets into thinking that she didn't notice them, so she could capture them with their guard down. She appeared in 4 episodes and a minicomic.
Spinnerella was a dancer whose spinning could create strong winds, up to and including tornadoes and hurricanes. While this is portrayed as one of the most powerful abilities in the series, she appeared in only one episode and one minicomic. Notably, in the minicomic she helped She-Ra in her quest to find Light Hope, making her one of the most important minor characters in that continuity, but this does not occur in the animated series.
I watched the original, but after all these years I don't remember much. Thanks for the lore.
@@alaskanativemanitou9340 The Masters of the Universe channel (search for @MastersOfTheUniverse) has pretty much all of the original "He-Man" and "She-Ra" episodes, and a bunch of "New Adventures" episodes. Just be aware that it's _unbelievably_ poorly organized, so you'll need an episode list if you want to watch them in order.
And the funniest part is that if glimmer asked her to act as bait, she would ve probably do it anyway, is the whole not telling her while also being a bait that was a problem... Well that and the whole "yeah andd btw, im hanging out with your abusive mom and she is teaching me, c yaaaa!"
And so we begin, you could actually play a drink game, everytime you say " Dammit Glimmer " or "Catra No!" Take a shot.....warning this might be dangerous XD

I did base a dnd character off them. It worked out cause my whole party was all chaotic af. I was worried my character wouldn't vibe with the others but we were a trio from hell.
As a big Glimmer fan, this is one of my favourite episodes. It's also when I started lowkey shipping her with Catra. They have a certain....understanding that makes for a very appealing "bringing out the worst in each other" disaster ship.

Loved this! And loved that last comment about Shadow Weaver. She's horrible but such a good antagonist. There is wisdom in some of what she says, but the rest is self-serving deception or flattery. She really embodies the 'power behind the throne' archetype so well.
This is one of my favorite episodes, it just gets so much better in season 5. Cant wait for more of your reactions!

It's an interesting point about how Adora's military background might lead her to accept the fact Glimmer used her as a decoy, but I can also see her reacting badly to Glimmer acting in the way the Horde would have (no matter if it was justified or not).
Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. Adora might be familiar with those kinds of tactics from the Horde, but she left the Horde and joined her new friends in Bright Moon for a reason.
She has every reason to expect better, and deserves better.
Now that you’ve been introduced to DT, you’ll probably find that any time you see a new background character, or see a main character acting slightly out of character, you’ll wonder “is that actually DT?”…

7:38 No Mosco, the King is the most vital piece. The Queen is the most powerful piece on the board, but broadly speaking, only the king is necessary to stay intact in a match. Every other piece is ultimately expendible to some extent. And it's different in real war. Chain of command, line of succession, and supply chains are the biggest items in any armed force. The supplies could be artillery, food & water, medical supplies, information, etc... And how to organize these things is key in warfare.
Edit: Also, Spinnerella isn't Netossa's gf; she's her wife.
Edit 2: In war, having someone like Adora play decoy is an effective tactic to divert enemy attention and resources. The key difference between a decoy and bait is that a decoy knows what they're in for and goes anyways.
And this is the episode where catra looses the whip everyone morn the losing of the whip

I hate how thoughtout the show, you can literally SEE how Shadow Weaver manipulate people (the physical touches are the most horribles ones for Catra and Glimmer because we quickly see how touch deprived/parent deprived they are)
I don't blame you for forgetting about Netossa and Spinnerella; they got completely under-utilized on this show, but you'll see more of them as it goes on. Their vibe is playful and great.
They weren’t even in season 2 nor 3. At least they were important in season 5.
I think part of the reason they are in the background is that Spinarella is voiced by ND Stevenson, so they had to balance that with being the showrunner.
@@emilymarriott5927Them being a queer couple was probably also part of it. Just like with Garnet in Steven Universe, you'll often have to sneak it in until the audience, production company and publisher are invested enough in the show's continuation that you have some leverage.

Glimmer is bi with pan leanings. Bow is also bi, but was simultaneously considered to be trans-coded as well. Sea Hawk has had several former exes & him setting fire to their boats is a literal ship sinking metaphor, yet he simps hard over Mermista, never mind that Bow seems to finds him attractive to boot. Mermista herself is in a love/hate relationship with Sea Hawk, but is very clearly enamored with Adora's She-Ra form (as are most characters in this show, to be fair, bearing limited exceptions). Autistic geek princess Entrapta was proven tech sexual throughout the show itself (she flirts with one of the robotic drones working for the ultimate "Big Bad" of the series, she raised her eyebrows suggestively whilst telling the Best Friend Squad that she & the heroes' spaceship Darla are "going to spend some quality time together", and she ends up in a relationship with Hordak whilst viewing Wrong Hordak like a surrogate son after she & Bow freed the cinnamon roll clone from Horde Prime's hivemind, for as she told Bow, "But we broke him. We're responsible for him now!"), however showrunner ND Stevenson has stated online that despite Entrapta's difficulty relating to people, the fact that Entrapta's canonically 30-years-old would likely infer that she's already had several failed previous relationships across the board (meaning, she has been with men, women, and possibly even non-binary persons, but couldn't really fit in well with any of them due to her quirks), which explains exactly why she's more drawn towards the robots she builds, the machines she works on, and even bio-engineered beings like Hordak, who are a fusion of genetic material & technology. As for the soon-to-be former leader of The Horde/the younger defective "brother" of Horde Prime, Hordak would probably claim to be asexual, but would make an obvious exception for Entrapta, as she's the only real friend Hordak ever had, not to mention the fact that she's the only one whose life he was willing to protect at the risk of being overtaken permanently by his fascist creator, thereby presenting Hordak with his own "Darth Vader kills Emperor Palpatine" redemption moment, however fleeting it was.
All other official relationships aside from the above are lesbian (Catradora, Scorfuma [although Perfuma was thought to be trans, too], Spintossa [with showrunner ND Stevenson voicing Spinny back when he used to be Noelle, but following his transmasculine transition to Nate Stevenson, the character the creator of this reboot would best represent now would actually be the non-binary shapeshifter Double Trouble], and possibly even Light Hope X Mara [at least before the sentient A.I. ended up corrupted & caused Mara to sacrifice herself for the "greater good"]), gay (Bow's dads, Lance & George), or poly (the thruple of Kyle X Rogelio X Lonnie).
@@TherealRNOwwfpoohwhile everyone in the show is queer in some way, there was still censorship from the network. Example: perfuma was supposed to be a trans woman. They weren’t sure how much they could get away with at the time and had to scrap it. They can’t be too blatantly queer even tho they are queer. They can’t ever actually say it. Which is why they came up with the “everyone is canonly queer” thing, so that they could have representation without saying it while portraying it as a simple normalization of queerness instead of the censorship it is, which all things considered is a clever way to get around censorship but still sad we can’t have a character just say “I’m gay!” Or “I’m trans!” Or something! They did their best and they executed it well, but censorship did play a part in it.

Next episode double trouble switches sides but the reasons are kinda silly. They find out the horde doesnt give dental insurance but the alliance does, and then the last straw was when DT overheard Catra's bad opinions on space shakespear

Well of course she goes to Shadow weaver it's not like she has a mother figure around I wonder who's fault that was 🤔. She's kind of like an aunt (maybe more like a great aunt) but she lives there with her unlike her actually one who has to keep an eye on her own home and people. Spinnerella and Netossa's real competition is against Hordak and Entrapta for Best least toxic couple 💜+💚 vs. 💙+💓 but they both win in my book

I just wanted to say I only recently found your channel and I love it already! I love she-ra and infinity train and all the other stuff you've been reacting to! Ive really enjoyed your she-ra reactions so far (Its a very important show to me because me and my girlfriend really bonded over it when we were younger/not together yet. She could handle being trtreated well, if she were treated well. But even when Adora was with her in The Horde, Shadow Weaver still abused Catra & Adora was none the wiser/let it happen.

I'll chalk up Bow not being mangled as tvy7 censorship. He absolutely was on deaths door though. So much so that even Adora's incredible magic couldn't *fully* heal him
Tbh, I just assume that they couldn't figure out a way to mess Bow up within the confines of the show's ratings.
He looks a little scuffed up, but the tone and dialogue make it clear that the blast is supposed to have done serious damage.

I'd say the same of Shadow Weaver. Well, more like Good Character, Absolute Toxic Waste of a Person, but the point still stands.
It's also nice that they're both horrible and toxic manipulators, but in completely different ways
