Megas in X&Y: Power up your pokemon through the power of friendship
Megas in gen 7: All of these pokemon are suffering in constant pain and you're a monster for subjecting them to this
No it isn't; It's still the power of friendship... it's just that the power boost also causes suffering. Mega evolution is supposed to be an ace... not used over regularly, but as a means for the Pokemon to gain more power and win. It's based off of the competitive spirit of the Pokemon itself.
Basically, using the energy from their friendship to boost it's own power and gain victory. The Pokemon doesn't want to lose... so it chooses to Mega evolve... it's staking it's honor...
Remember, in Yu Yu Hakusho, for the sake of an honorable victory, Hiei chopped off his own arm to win....
And Goku, with the will to protect his home went Kaio-ken 4x and harmed his own body... will to protect and friendship.... but still harmed his own body...
Power of friendship means you get more power, but going beyond your limits is still going beyond your limits.

Yeah, it was because some dude on the ORAS team didn't like Megas so decided to make it horrible and ruin everything about them

I find it strange how tyranitar can't be injured physically but is 4× weak to fighting, the most physical type
I like to think of it as:
A: fighting is the “work smarter, not harder” physical type, smashing bricks not because you’re stronger, but because you found where the bricks are weak
B: Pokemon don’t generally use their full power in battles, because they’re not fights to the death, and they also don’t need to put everything into shrugging off blows
@@spindash64 A sounds more like Dark than Fighting. But yeah, smashing things with brute strength works better for Normal or Rock than with Fighting.

@@BenjaminAnderson21 Yes it does. The measurement of TTar being OU or UU is by Smogon's standards to begin with, lol, "normal competitive battling", i.e. VGC format and cartridge ladder, don't have these tiers. TTar isn't even that great of a Dynamax abuser in singles.

Honestly the outcome of this battle royale would've ultimately came down to how much you wanna really lean into every mega's dex entries. Like, Alakazam being able to "perceive all things" implies a very large amount of pre-cognition and therefore it should realistically be untouchable.
Yeah but knowing that 1 million outcomes results in you dying really doesn't help much
This doesn’t necessarily mean it can react to or even focus on “all things” so maybe it got tunnel vision on its first opponent. This would be entirely believable
@@meatkirbo Isn't that what happened tho? It started focusing on Gengar and Mewtwo specifically that it couldn't react to Lucario at all when it got hit by the braid.

it was dumb how mega dexes became so violent and nasty to the pokemon because someone on the ORAS team didn't like mega evolution, really contradicted some of the earlier established lore with them

I like it, at least it's something different. And it shows how unnatural the whole thing is. I'm guessing the strong bond with the trainer is needed to *safely* use Mega Evolution.

I loved Mewtwo's quick-switch on his forms.
The thing that gets me confused about mega evolutions is that Mewtwo can somehow mega evolve. I mean, Mewtwo is an artificial pokemon that wasn't even supposed to exist. And what's more is that it's a copy of Mew, which DOESN'T mega evolve at all. Yet Mewtwo somehow gets not one but TWO mega stones that fit him and only him.
probably created by the scientists that created mew two because why not give a merciless being power to be a god?
Funny thing is mewtwo in lore has human DNA so this either can work against it by not allowing mega evolution or make it to where it makes sense he can solo mega evolve as all the information given to us a trainer is the only one that can activate mega evolution with legendary pokemon being an outlier

Maybe he just got lucky and was somehow compatible with some of the Megastones? Tbh Megastones in general don't make sense as there is no reason why they only work for certain pokemon, given that several Mega Pokemon couldn't be related to the Ultimate Weapon at all, but still harness its power while others just can't for some reason.

Honestly, mewtwo didn’t really benefit from mega. All he did was get a little stronger, while (some of)the others got big boosts

So I speculate the reason you need to have a strong bond to use mega evolution is that the pokemon will go out of control if you don't due to its suffering of intense pain. You can achieve the form , but you might die by the hands of your own pokemon.
Mega Banette can literally just curse you on accident.
For Lucario, it's canon that Lucario seems to be fine mega evolving, but his aura becomes so strong that he will only think about fighting and therefore needs to be trained to not lose control of himself.
It's probably a similar case for many other Mega Pokemon.

I'm just saying that Lucario specifically doesn't look like it suffers until it becomes overwhelmed by its excessive aura powers, and that it is something that can eventually be controlled.

Mega Mewtwo Y is actually the strongest mega pokemon offensively. The animation did follow pokedex entry logic though, so you can't expect it to be realistic... however I think the unrealistic-ness of the pokedex just made it even more entertaining and hilarious

Honestly dude props to Blastoise for managing to at least go mono a mono with Aggron even after being pierced
I like to think that it lost function of it's legs to the first piercing so spun around quickly and tried to do it's thing and got pierced again because (I think) tanks can function the turret without tracks
Kangaskhan wasn't the only mega in Uber though. Blaziken was also immediately banned (though to be fair, Speedboost Blazekin was already in Uber without mega), Gengar and Lucario were put into Uber pretty early as well and a few other megas followed later on.
It’s crazy the amount of detail they put in the background as well.

Rayquaza ate it’s megastone and can still use an item to double it’s battle ferocity.
Diance created it’s own megastone to mega evolve.

I get that the explanation is probably going to be something along the lines of "Hey they're primal not mega's which is justified since rayquazza is considered mega and not primal." but even so, I feel like groudon and kyogre should have made an appearance.
Maybe even just a cameo like you see them duking it out in the background while Rayquaza is too busy stuffing its face full of meteor.
Mega-Lopunny: Has no Pokedex entry, appears for one second in the Battle Royale. Makes sense.

I always liked the idea that the Sun and Moon pokedex entries for Megas were so much darker and edgier because the people of Alola were misusing Mega-Evolution. Used to the quick bursts of power Z-crystals give, they treat Mega Evolution like that it like that and rush the process, ignoring the bond the trainer is supposed to have to make Megas possible and cause their pokemon pain and suffering because of it.
That's a really good theory.
And I always thought the Pokemon Adventures Manga or Anime( it would never do) could utilise that in showing a story based on saving pokemon with mega evolution where the pokemon is addicted to it like drug and they are slowly dying.
I really like that, so much better than just ,"MEGA EVOLUTION IS EVIL!"

I like the idea that Rotom-dex was messing with you by making all the entries dark and edgy. ESPECIALLY the Mega Evos because he didn't have one. :D
It wasn't mentioned but I'm sure the reason why Mega Mewtwo puts Mega Charizard in a headlock is due to how he gets beaten by him in the Origins shorts.

My favorite part was the ending because it's very easy to forget that Mega Rayquaza straight up exists in a parallel universe.
The joke here being that Megas actually do not exist in this timeline, but they still have them in their battle simulator for some reason.
The end bit references how there are multiple universes in the Pokemon universe since the attack AZ fired split the universes into two. It was very clever and it got me the first time I saw it.

I can totally imagine heracross being a legendary monster that once he throws his ennemies into space, they are never seen again. A hidden master of some sorts. Quite literally the description of "hidden dragons and crouching tigers."

Thank you for explaining and sometimes over explaining (14 days) as I am very new to gaming. I got into it because my son really REALLY wants to share all the nerdy wonderfulness of it all. I can only claim to be nerd adjacent when it comes to console and PC games. I am more into sci-fi and fantasy books, but am willing to learn, especially if it makes my son happy and exposes me to more wonderfully nerdy people. (When I was dating, my future husband gave me A Girl's Guide to Geek Guys. It worked as I married him.) Unfortunately he passed several years back and am only getting back into the gaming scene now that my son is old enough to drag me back in. 😊

It is so strange how violent and painful Game Freak tried to make the process of Mega Evolution when it's supposed to be triggered by how happy the Pokemon and trainer are supposed to be together.
