I love the fact that Mega Mawile has two mouth-like horns and Huge Power as its ability -- an ability that doubles its physical Attack stat. One for each horn. Also, there's that joke that "if the cockroach starts flying, nobody is brave enough to remain near it". Pinsir is a beetle, not a cockroach, but it does get the flying type and gets "menacing" through it.
I think Charizard X having the shiny colors (minus the red being blue instead) helps showcase the artificial nature, as the stone forces an otherwise rare genetic trait onto the Charizard in an attempt to make it more intimidating.
I think that cases like Lysander with his mega or Cyrus with his Crobat somewhat make sense. As one of Professor Elm's assistants said: When a Pokémon is raised by someone evil, it ends up becoming evil too. So the Pokémon probably sees the world the same as its trainer and empathizes with him. Like a Pokémon version of Stockholm syndrome.
My theory about Mega Aggron is that the mega evolution it's undergone causes it's core temperature to rise drastically, causing it to experience great pain as the phenomenon purifies the metals that make up it's carapace. The Filter ability is the result of its inner pain being so intense that it shows little to no response to outside stimuli.
I'd like to add on to Mega Lop, but it also becomes even more aggressive and will use its ears as weapons, where Lopunny is normally cautious and timid and doesn't like its ears being touched
I believe all about uncontrol, pain, agony and all the negative effects of mega evolution on pokemon that are written in the pokedex are the effects when they first do it for some pokemon.. and the bond and love between trainer and pokemon is needed to eliminate or reduce all of that, to the point that they can use the form well even though they only use it in critical situations and not for a long time. that's why in the anime they don't use it carelessly.. We know that Mega Evolution is their strongest form, and in many Japanese anime franchises and the like, when they want to use their strongest power or skill, negative effects will definitely follow. However, they practice hard to master it for the sake of the people they care about. Take for example Naruto with his Rasengan Shuriken, it is a painful and damaging skill that can even paralyze his hands making him prohibited from using the skill, but in order to protect the people around him he finally found a way to use it well.
Mmm, i do not think so. The "bad" Pokédex entries are all in the Alola games, where mega evolution it's a foreing concept, just imported by overseas trainers. In that case, they just could have a bad impresion of the phenomenon, and think that the Pokémon it's suffering, just as a foreing could think that Z-Moves drain energy of a Pokémon beyond it's limits.
Honestly, I hated the fact that I could only see that Rasen Shuriken one time. It was EPIC. I was blown away by the intensity of that single attack. And then… “Ahhhh…so yeah, this move is a no-no……..sorry.”
One could probably argue that the story about banette being abandoned by a child is true...and the reason why it can be/is loyal to it's trainer is because the trainer took it in and cared for it so as a result it came to love it's trainer since they took them in after their original owner abandoned them.
11: 53 "Infact it takes on the appearance of a wizard, one who sold its soul to be able eat icecream with five spoons at the same time" Best quote ever😂😂😂
I'm a mega fan of mega evolution. Here's what I came up with since its introduction. The way I see it is the megas were observed at different levels of bonds. The easier a pokemon is to work with the more likely the researcher is to have a higher bond, causing the pokemon to experience less pain/suffering. Gardevior, Pidgeot, and all starters are some of the first pokemon you get early and will likely use for a long while, meaning you're more likely to have a strong bond with it. Alternatively, Gengar and Houndoom, pokemon you're likely not to come across under normal circumstances, meaning a researcher would have one transported to them for research purposes. So they wouldn't have much of a bond causing mega evolution to boost it's natural negativity or cause the pain/suffering we see in those. To support this, I will use the game mechanics as a reference. Specifically the point that you can have a pokemon you just caught mega evolve. Meaning a friendship or bond is not a requirement at all. If a bond is something needed then it easily could have been a requirement they could have added for the player. Also the timeline of the pokemon games are split into main and remake timeline. Both with their own origins for mega evolution for those timelines. The makn timeline where x and y have the main timelines mega origin explained and the remake timeline where oras explains the remake timelines mega origin.
.....So what about the fact that Mega Evolution is basically the user using stolen energy from dead Pokémon and (possibly) people? 'Cause thinking about it now, the ultimate weapon that was used also used the same energy that's used for Mega Evolution. Sycamore and Zinnia already hinted (In Zinnia's case she directly implied it) that Mega Evolution came into existence BECAUSE of AZ's weapon. And then there's the energy source being Pokémon that were hooked up and SACRIFICED to power it!
@@ceecee6521 Mega Evolutuon is the rest of the Infinity energy thats still lingering in the Stones (presumably comets) which came from the recoil of the shot. That would make alot of sense because its how physics work. You cant direct an insane amount of energy without some kind of energy or shockwave being emitted from around it. As I am really tired rn I forgot the word, but yes. AZs Weapon made Mega evolution presumably possible. I would even say it created the Natural energy as well, but thats a different topic.
Yeah even pokemon like druddigon or accelgor would've been a better pick if they were going with popular picks cause they desperately would've needed it if mawile, ampharos kangashagn and even beedrill got alot better with it.
Honestly if it is supposed to be a bond of friendship I'm just curious why they didn't make it a feature in the games that you needed to have max friendship with the pokemon that can mega evolve.
To annoying plus competitive players would kill them lol. Same reason why z moves cam still be performed without friendship even though both mega evolution and z moves are rooted in friendship
Pokémon never made it really easy to raise your friendship level with a Pokemon. Plus, I have a feeling Mega Evolution would be absolutely hated if, in order to use it, you had to maximize the friendship of the Pokemon you were trying to Mega Evolve.
i know alot of people have said this but, i believe the reason they deal with the pain in some mega evolutions is through the sheer bound itself, it gets some sort of self control through sheer willpower alone. why else are we able to use them? last resorts for our pokemon, and that they care about us so much; they put themselves into pain just so we have a chance of success. i believe thats the reason because, in the anime and in media its shown how deep a pokemon and trainers bond can go. and with katrina, her bond wasnt big enough with her lucario for it to control itself; causing it to go haywire as seen in the anime. high risk, high reward type of thing. tldr: they deal with the pain from the mega evolution so we have a chance to succeed. because they care about us that much. also, the artifical mega theory is amazing actually and i will personally take it as canon.
What's wild too me is how 48 Megas isn't even a chunk of ice from a iceberg compared too 1000+ pokemon .. just a mechanic which will be forgotten with time .. until fan made games (literally the only thing holding pokemon games up) makes 100+ extra Megas *prays for Mega Flygon*
I still believe mega evolution was just an attempt to grab Digimon fans. Guns, artificial evolution, temporary evolution during battle, altering its type. In fact, Dark Digivolving results in similar effects, causing pain, torment, unnatural evolutions, and always seem to result in rage. And we see that they can be triggered by a deep bond with the tamer, forcing them beyond their natural form. Great video with lots of sad details about how mega-evolution affects Pokemon.
Its just to make you hate megas saying it hurts the Pokémon but from what most consider true that it dose not hurt the Pokémon but rather is activated purely by friendship
@@bresrkthis exactly Megas we’re considered good increases in power based of a close bond with the trainer then when they wanted to get rid of it all of a sudden it became a bad power that harms the Pokemon I’m inclined to go with Kalos’s interpretation of megas since they actually have a monopoly on it while the people of Alola don’t even really know how it works

Ugh Mega Audino is my favorite, it was nice to see a pokémon with no evolution line, to get a mega which gave it a pseudo evolution, plus making it a normal fairy type is nice too!
Here’s how I always seen mega evolutions they are dangerous forms to maintain and the long lasting issues in the form is more a problem when you allow it to linger longer than a few minute, or the average battle, it’s a forced evolution but unstable. Like the way it’s used in gameplay is dangerous but it’s also rare so the worse of effects of mega evolutions requires something like DAYS in the form not minutes or hours.
I have always seen them as a temporary power up, however some of them are truly weird, like kangaskan But mega mawile could be a normal Mawile evolution, it fits too well
the pokemon absol was actually inspired by the doomfish, a fish that lives at the bottom of the ocean but when it appears on the surface a catastrophe would happened, in ancient Japan when this fish appeared it was hunted and killed because people thought it was the causer of destruction however, just like absol he simply appeared as a warning that a catastrophe was about to occur, because of this he was called doomfish. Being quite honest I understand that absol in his mega form has fur that looks like an angel's wings but even so I don't think he was directly inspired by this concept, however due to the lack of official confirmation everyone has their own opinion

i think mega altaria gets glossed over a lot as 'it just gets fluffier' when the shape of its down has a lot of inspiration too. the long crest gets swapped for more cloudy white feathers which seems to be the shape of an old timey nurse/doctor's hat, with a little ahoge almost implying that its crest is still buried underneath that hat. the white ring around its neck also resembles the collar of a 1900's nurse's uniform, and what it gains on its back is a giant cotton head- with cotton buds being commonly used in medicine to stop bleeding and pad wounds. it gains its fairy type in the mega form along the same vein audino does: they're both nurses.
I loved your take on latios and latias, I've been always kind of dissapointed about their mega design comparing it to what they did with appletun and flapple which shares the same gigantamax form, but being twins and amplifying their special link mixing up their colors into one, it was there all this time and I wasn't able to see it
I think mega energy is more like a “divine” energy that “ascends” the pokemon to be closer to being a legendary pokemon to making more demonic or godly or it’s a more powerful and natural form of shadow pokemon making them more powerful then they normally would be
The Glalie-Mega explanation….my God! Congratulations, bro! I love it & you should do movie or song analysis videos with that type of psychology & deduction
The Gastly line are ghosts who want to enter the physical realm. Upon birth, Gastly pokes his head in the physical realm. Then upon evolution, he manages to get his hands there, too. And when he evolves for the last time he gets his whole body in. However, when Gengar gets greedy and tries to evolve again in order to get an even larger spectral body in the physical realm, he could Mega Evolve, becoming so heavy that he once again starts sinking back into the spiritual realm. Gengar ought to have been content with getting his whole body into the physical realm. Ofcourse, this excess weight is a burden on Gengar that is too big too carry, thus causing him to have to revert back eventually.
Imagine being twins with a hyperventilating, anxiety stricken panic attacker. Like you got to an interview and then your twin is having a fucking episode somewhere so your twin link starts giving you an intense heart rate.
Maybe mega banette's excessive hatred comes from the fact that if its trainer can love it then why its past owner can't? Why does it needs to be thrown to feel love? 😅
I just know that many of these pokemon get screwed over because of mega evolution, I don't if the pokemon trusts me enough to go through the pain, I won't do that to them.
As a guy who played the games with mega evolution in it (IE: x, y, and oras) I can say that not all mega evolutions have questionable design and origins, but I do like the concept of mega evolution, if only it was more utilized, did you guys know flygon was actually gonna have a mega in oras but it was scrapped, I would have loved to seen the best flyer for gen 3 get a mega, and it will look cool its second place to shiny mega Metagross, who thinks mega evolution needs to return?
I like how you describe this. A bit like darwinism but also with proper articulated and well thought decription. Great video! Not just what you cover, but how you covered it! Thank you
Honestly I mostly just liked the mega stones for the Pokemon that were already pretty irrelevant and forgotten getting a new lease on life, yet they kept handing them out to pokemon that were already pretty much top tier competitive picks.
After the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, I firmly believe that most Mega Evolutions are what these pokemon were in the ancient past. A more powerful form to survive in a much harsher, brutal, and wild environment brimming with energy that no longer exists. But a form these pokemons have evolved away from in favor of these more energy efficient forms of present pokemon. The only exception to this is Mewtwo, being an artificial pokemon. But I like to think that either Mewtwo is smart enough to make his own mega stone (Mega stone X) or the labs made a megastone to make him a more successful mew clone (Mega stone Y).
40:48 Neat theory but I'm more inclined to believe that Mewtwo, a Pokémon engineered by human scientists to be ultimate, was designed to the best of their ability to be compatible with this Mega phenomena in accordance with that goal. If these scientists had differing goals from each other they would've turned to the naturally diverging Charizardites as inspiration.
Something I always liked was how mega pinsir’s Pokédex didn’t have any grotesque details about it and just said it was very happy to be able to fly

@@Archdornan9001 also how could the scientists have seen Walking Wake and Iron Leaves even though they didn't exist the moment we found the books, also how actual Walking Wake and Iron Leaves look nothing like how they were described and sketched in the book and how they all resemble creatures from either dubious or paranormal magazines, literally a figment of the imagination being turned into reality
I think area zero is basically Jurassic Park and the reason it was off limits was so the scientists down there could keep experimenting on Pokémon
I'm pretty sure mega pinsir's pokédex entry says that it's so happy now because it can fly and it rarely touches the ground
they really just ignore anything that doesn't line up with the edgy interpretation

Big fan of these 3d models and animations! Very impressive. This whole video was great. Thank you!

I mean honestly who at game freak said "yeah let's remove mega evolution and put goofy hats on the Pokemon instead"
Go give this video a dislike he says charizard wrong
I really wish they would do more with this idea.
WE DON'T USE THE WORD ITS AS A PRONOUN IF THERE'S AN APOSTROPHE IN IT! STOP DOING THAT!
LOL@@Amelia4111
I'd like to add on to Mega Lop, but it also becomes even more aggressive and will use its ears as weapons, where Lopunny is normally cautious and timid and doesn't like its ears being touched
Mega Slowbro its Ultra Moon's dex entry says "It's pretty comfortable in there, too."
Mega Lopunny is probably supposed to be a gym bunny/cardio bunny.
cardio indeed
Or just some mad gf employees kink
Oh there’s cardio alright
I don't wanna know. They made it look very different from gymnastics...
Take for example Naruto with his Rasengan Shuriken, it is a painful and damaging skill that can even paralyze his hands making him prohibited from using the skill, but in order to protect the people around him he finally found a way to use it well.
i think that’s why megas are still my favorite gimmick lol, it makes me feel like i’m playing an anime
Go give this video a dislike he says charizard wrong
Honestly, I hated the fact that I could only see that Rasen Shuriken one time. It was EPIC. I was blown away by the intensity of that single attack. And then… “Ahhhh…so yeah, this move is a no-no……..sorry.”
Using Mega Evolution, Battle Bond and Z Move will give Pokemon so much power.
One could probably argue that the story about banette being abandoned by a child is true...and the reason why it can be/is loyal to it's trainer is because the trainer took it in and cared for it so as a result it came to love it's trainer since they took them in after their original owner abandoned them.
I like how most mega go through horrible pain and then audino just becomes better at its job
8:52 I can tell why it's hated, because of all the Unova Pokemon only him having a Mega it's weird
So true...
I love the visuals that accompany your analysis of each mega form
Is it a render or from a game?
I think so

What's wild too me is how 48 Megas isn't even a chunk of ice from a iceberg compared too 1000+ pokemon .. just a mechanic which will be forgotten with time .. until fan made games (literally the only thing holding pokemon games up) makes 100+ extra Megas

This is a great video, I learned quite a bit actually, and have some cool Mega Evolution theories for myself now! Definitely earned a new sub!
@@bresrkthis exactly
Megas we’re considered good increases in power based of a close bond with the trainer
then when they wanted to get rid of it all of a sudden it became a bad power that harms the Pokemon
I’m inclined to go with Kalos’s interpretation of megas since they actually have a monopoly on it while the people of Alola don’t even really know how it works
🤓-you
@@Bananahut_ as Long as I am right I don’t give a fuck

Ugh Mega Audino is my favorite, it was nice to see a pokémon with no evolution line, to get a mega which gave it a pseudo evolution, plus making it a normal fairy type is nice too!
Absolutely love the animations for each mon, both 2D and 3D
Also love you using the Apollo Justice Ace Attorney OST
I think Absol is so beautiful and its mega evolution just makes them even more gorgeous and elegant.
They are a mix of both power and beauty.
What a well put out video, hope you reach 10k subscribers soon dude!
I have always seen them as a temporary power up, however some of them are truly weird, like kangaskan
But mega mawile could be a normal Mawile evolution, it fits too well
So when it comes to mega evolution, you’ve got a coin toss of “in constant pain, incredibly violent” or “more powerful, almost natural evolution”

This video made me like certain Pokémon I never liked before nice
the pokemon absol was actually inspired by the doomfish, a fish that lives at the bottom of the ocean but when it appears on the surface a catastrophe would happened, in ancient Japan when this fish appeared it was hunted and killed because people thought it was the causer of destruction however, just like absol he simply appeared as a warning that a catastrophe was about to occur, because of this he was called doomfish.
Being quite honest I understand that absol in his mega form has fur that looks like an angel's wings but even so I don't think he was directly inspired by this concept, however due to the lack of official confirmation everyone has their own opinion
The great thing is, official confirmation will never come causer they literally just don't care. xD Gamefreak even said "I think none of that stuff is really set in stone" when asked lore questions about SwSh. So.

i think mega altaria gets glossed over a lot as 'it just gets fluffier' when the shape of its down has a lot of inspiration too. the long crest gets swapped for more cloudy white feathers which seems to be the shape of an old timey nurse/doctor's hat, with a little ahoge almost implying that its crest is still buried underneath that hat. the white ring around its neck also resembles the collar of a 1900's nurse's uniform, and what it gains on its back is a giant cotton head- with cotton buds being commonly used in medicine to stop bleeding and pad wounds. it gains its fairy type in the mega form along the same vein audino does: they're both nurses.
For mega Lopunny, lop bunnies have broken coats so that's also a good explanation since it is a LOP bunny
