- We all have our favorite Pokemon... we also all have our LEAST favorites. In this video I list 20 Pokemon designs that I, PERSONALLY, don't like. I would say they are the 20 worst designs, TO ME, with my specific, personal tastes. It's fine to disagree, that's what makes humans unique. And shouldn't that be celebrated?

I actually really like Xurkitree, but because it has a personality. It dances everywhere and that’s pretty funny. They managed to give it a distinct personality despite being just cables

I agree that Xurkitree is an uncreative design, but it has a weird charm to it that makes it my favorite ultra beast.

I actually thought Zeraora was fake when I saw it. I will also defend Xurkitree. You can accept that Kartana is from a dimension where plants can look and function like paper, but not one where organisms can look and function like electrical cables? It's simultaneously familiar and foreign, and I think that's great. Way better than Pokeball with eyes that flips over when it evolves.

As someone who is a rikishi (sumo wrestler) and grew up with pokemon, from childhood i exclusively made my team up of fighting pokemon with a sumo aesthetic. Heracross and Hariyama are the only two pokemon I have used in every game they feature in regardless of the rest of the team.

Now that's awesome! I've always been interested in Sumo (as a spectator,mainly... as I'd probably be thrown into the sky and disappear with sparkle, like what happened to Team Rocket all the time on the show if I ever actually tried it! LOL!), it's so much more than just a "sport" as it's so intertwined with tradition, culture and ceremony and is one of the oldest sports still around today.
It's pretty depressing most people don't realize that and don't ever give it a chance, thinking it's nothing more than some guys pushing each other. I know when I eventually visit Japan one of the things I plan on doing is going to watch a Sumo match in person...oh, and of course try out some Chanko-nabe!
Man, Pokemon can truly reach anyone, no matter who they are.

Ive always felt Sunflora needs an evolution similar to how Roselia got one. It feels kinda like a middle pokemon. I could totally see it becoming Grass Fire Grass Dragon or Grass Rock

Why Grass/Rock-type?
I feel with the starters of every gen it's always a "young, akward teen, adult" phase in that order. Half the time the middle stage is like "who hurt you" and the adult phase is like "okay you pulled through" or in some cases the final form is even worse.
You are referring to Typhlosion by final form is even worse right? Quilava is the cool guy who becomes an abusive good for nothing man in terms of design. At least Hisuian Typhlosion seems more laid back rather than the hothead (likely to erupt into abusive behavior) normal Typhlosion is. Raboot is definintely an awkward middle stage.

i loved crabominable. I felt like someone said "if it's a yeti/bigfoot, how will it leave big foot marks with those tiny crab legs?" and another designer drew the feet shape on the glove claws like "there".
i dont like mr rime’s design, but i think it was an improvement from mr mime and i love its walk animation so much that its my favourite ice type solely for that reason

7:35 I've always been confused by the Timburr line origin, so one day I decided to search what their design inspiration was and found out that they really weren't modeled after clowns and strongmen carnies.
Their design was actually inspired by japanese Yankee delinquents and construction workers, which might seem like a random combination of ideas, but back in the 70s and 80s it was common for delinquents to end up working at construction sites, since most of them never finished school, they really didn't had that many job options to choose from.
You can see the Yankee inspiration in Timburr with its Regent Pompadour and Gurdurr's "Afro" is meant to be a Punch perm, both hairstyles where very popular among japanese delinquents.
Conkeldurr's "hairstyle" is a Chonmage (topknot used by warriors), and its japanese name Roubushin has "bushin" in it, which can be translated to Warlord, so its design draws inspiration from construction workers/warriors instead of Yankees like the other two. There's also the old man side of the design with the concrete pillars being walking canes and the veins looking like a back brace.
Their bodies also resemble the uniform used by construction workers in Japan, with their legs resembling baggy pants called tobi trousers and their two toed feet being similar to jika-tabi shoes.
Now the red nose in Gurdurr and Conkeldurr...I have no idea, but my theory is that it might be based on a red drunkard nose(?). At least it makes sense to me with Timburr being the youngest one, having its black nose turn into red once it evolves to Gurdurr, which can be considered the young adult stage, while Conkeldurr is the elder final stage.
PMD Gates makes kind of a reference to this with a Gurdurr getting "drunk" after drinking too much """berry juice""" at a party and in Pokemon Amie, for some reason, Gurdurr is one of the few Pokemon to have a special sleeping animation and it really makes it look like a drunk guy sleeping while standing up, lmao. But who knows, maybe it was intentional or maybe I'm just grasping at straws since there hasn't been a real explanation for the red noses.
TL;DR The Timburr line was inspired by japanese Yankee delinquents and construction workers, not clowns.

Having grown up in Okinawa where a fair few youth gangs still hang around, I can absolutely see that. Yankii is a very old fashioned but almost nostalgic youth culture? There's still a fair few around who pretty much revel in the whole "bad boy" image except they're now adults with combovers and receding hairlines.
Even when making a foreign region, they couldn't help but include some Japanese elements and it shows. Kinda weird how this info isn't on Bulbapedia.

Fun fact, my first ever Pokémon card was a holo card Rhyperior, making it my favorite ground type. If I wasn’t already using Torterra when I get Brilliant Diamond, I’d use it as my ground type. But I can see where the hatred could come from.
I personally love Keldeo and the entire Swords of Justice lines solely based off of their Origins based on the three musketeers
And even with the horrible design, I have an affinity for Crabominable as I used it in my first playthrough of ultra sun and it was a great team member
Although I don't really like or hate the swords of justice I still got a bit upset at the keldeo section cause I'm a brony and he kinda blatantly insulted them

@@jordantatata155 it does have its uniqueness with the new types, art style, no rng in battles (main thing for me as I like pvp), mmo aspect and other fun tweaks to the battle system. It's certainly not a pokemon copy, it's just in the same genre and largely influenced by the smogon competitive community
People that enjoy the monster catching genre have a tendency to think any game in the genre that isn't pokémon is a bootleg Pokémon or just a Pokémon game with a different theme (because Pokémon is and will always be the biggest one and the most famous of the genre)
The sunflowers being taller than people thing, make me hope that gamefreak make a regional sunflora really tall like they did to alolan eggxecuter.

So yeah, it's a coincidence.
It was also found in the Black White Beta files from July of the same year.
It was first officially *released* in 2012, but we've known about it way longer than the word "brony" has existed.

I guess the reasons behind Zeraora being so “weird” is because of how it doesn’t have a pre-evolved form, it becomes too humanoid and doesn’t have a corresponding evolution to base it off of.. (Or that’s what I think)
I actually love Roselia, that was my grass go-to in gen 3. I did think it’s little leaves were it’s hands back then and that the roses were just growing out of it’s sides.

I just remembered that before we got sword & shield, I had a dream where Sobble evolved into a fish. Like straight up it looked like a fusion between Sobble and Basculegion, and this was before Legends Arceus.

I guess I'm in the minority here, as I honestly actually Crabominble. I mean, I can understand why people don't like it or think it's weird but to me I love the fact that it looks like the bumble from those old stop-animation Christmas movies and it's play on Yeti/hairy crabs. I also kinda like his goofy smile! Plus it's pretty common trope in Anime/Manga that fighters looking to unlock their full potential or are experiancing some kind of roadblock in their training, often go to an uninhabited and inhospitable mountain tops to train (usually involving living off of the land, staying warm just by working out, and wrestling bears for some reason lol) and come back completely changed (although it's usually just more muscle and a big bushy beard).
So to me, his back story and reason for such a big change when he eventually evolved just made sense to me and I liked it from the get-go. In fact, I'd even say that the fact that he made such a radical change when he evolved made me like him even more. I personally love it when a Pokemon evolves and actually surprises me with how it changes. I hate when Pokemon evolve and they are barely any different from their original form, expect maybe their bigger or look "meaner". (For example, Stufful and Bewear, basically the only thing that changes is that it gets bigger and now walks on two feet. (I'm not hating on them, I think their cool but GF could've been a bit more creative with it's evolution.)

I actually think Quilava is a great design, but the fact is, it could be the laziest design in all of Pokémon. I mean, it’s a bigger cyndaquil and a less angry looking typhlosion

Gurdurr: I kinda think it's alright. Conkeldurr is far worse in my opinion
Cinderace: I think it looks kinda awsome honestly. The gigantamax form looks really cool in my opinion
Keldeo: I think it looks fine. Also now I can't unsee the bad dragon on it's head

i personally love xurkitree. i love how it plugs into the ground and uses its wires like roots. i also wrecked house with one in my first moon playthrough. it sp attack stat is nuts
Xurkitree was one of my go-to choices for that “battle royale” mode the game had, it wrecked house with electric terrain
“A rose by any other name is just as sweet” - Romeo and Juliet. The capulet and montigue houses are often depicted in reds and blues respectively in stage and film performances, hence roselia’s roses being red and blue.
As far as the Gigantimax starters, I always saw it as a lore thing. In base SwSh there was no way to "give" a Pokemon a Gigantimax form, you had to catch/ be given a Pokemon with the Gigantimax factor. The implication was that it's a matter of genetics, a Pokemon is either born with it or isn't.
But Isle of Armor changed all that; to go with the theme of "training" they introduced a way to turn any Pokemon with the potential into a Gigantimax Pokemon. And it also introduced these three forms, which could ONLY be obtained with this method. So the reason they don't grow when they Gigantimax is because they're not 'natural born' Gigantimax Pokemon, but actually just normal Pokemon who trained until they attained Gigantimax-level power.
Oh I actually didn't expect to read something like that, it's quite the cool idea not gonna lie.
The problem however is that such a thing is pretty much lore breaker; Gigantamax (Dynamax in general) is not a process in which the Pokémon physically transforms as an evolution or Form change, Dynamax is the space-time around the Pokémon warped by the power of the Dynamax energy, not only it is vaguely stated in a sign, but also shown with the parallelism of Mr. Big Evil Hand spawning memories around its body.
So, if the Starters had these rather unique G-max forms, it would only mean they are *more* skilled than regular Pokémon, as they can harness and use that Dynamax energy to warp space in a way other Pokémon cannot.
On Zeraora: no, no, your opinion makes a lot of sense, actually! I remember one of the Pokemon saying something to the effect of that they give the Pokemon uncute or uncool traits to make them more unique. They used Oshawott as an example: it's, from a character design stance, cuter without the dots on its face, but the dots give it character.
Delphox, Incineroar, and Lucario all have design traits that are sort of antithetical to their themes - Delphox is elegant, but has awkward proportions in places. Incineroar is tough but has big, cartoony paws. Lucario is cool but, there's a simplicity to it that balances it out.
Zeraora doesn't feel like it has those antithetical traits. For argument's sake, I could argue that its folded up paws are kinda cute on an otherwise wicked cool Pokemon, but it's just not enough when every other aspect of the design is So Cool it borders into bland and predictable territory.

I like Scorbunny and Raboot, they deserve it, but Cinderace only has my love because it single-handedly swept the entire Pokemon League up to the rematch with Nessa. If I had known Scorbunny would become furbait ahead of time, I would've chosen Sobble.

Hariyama is my favorite fighting type. Design wise, I think its rounded thighs are very cool paired with the skirt-like waist accessories. And it’s big hands really sell it. But of course, what made me appreciate it most was seeing it in Pokémon GO.

To be honest, the Alola and Galar middle stage starter evolutions are my fave middle starter evolutions because they're based on stereotypical high school students. Dartrix is the Nerd, Torracat is the Delinquent, Brionne is the Cheerleader. Then Thwackey is the Musician, Raboot is the edgy jock, and Drizzile is the Goth.
yes, the middle stages have been extremely well designed and consistent for the most recent gens. Alola middle stages being my personal favorites among all middle stage starters period.

The point of the "footprints" on Crabominable's pinsirs is that they're supposed to tie in to the fictitious legend of the abominable snowman. Basically, in the Pokemon world, the abominable snowman is just a folk legend, and the footprints that people see in the snow are really just Crabominables doing it. Or at least, that's my theory.
That actually makes a lot of sense! It's like the entire plot of Lavender Town with these supposed ghosts cursing the Tower, but they were not ghosts (except for the one that it was) but mere Ghost type Pokémon being mischievous.
This is seen in multiple Pokédex entries even, where they describe myths surrounding Ghost type (or any other strange Pokémon) given off as facts, because ancient civilizations attributed a plethora of legends to common animals and phenomena.

My biggest issue with the swords of justice is how they're based on the three musketeers which originates in France. Literally the next gen is Kalos, aka France. They could have saved them for Kalos where they would have fit way more since they definitely had to have been planning some of Gen 6 at that point.

I remember playing moon and I almost dropped my Crabrawler when it evolved. I'm willing to ignore alot in a game, but craboniminable's design was so shocking I came close to dropping what was one of my best Pokemon in the party simply for the design. And what sucks is I thought crabrawler was cool, and could surpass as an evolutionless Pokemon.
I went through Moon with a Torracat in my team just to make the game more of a challenge and because I like it so much better than Inceniroar.
My first shiny I actually caught was a Crabrawler, imagine my disappointment when I evolved in during my playthrough and got that ugly thing.
Carkol is awesome! I love how it’s face feels deliberately stupid looking.
I just wish it evolved into a train engine instead of “Rhyperior with coal piled on it”.

Thats the thing? To some people thwy are obvious, despite the ambiguous nature. For me, i like zoroark, bwcause you THINK its based off a kitsune, yet when you compare its (and zorua`s) to a skinwalker, you get a much darker pokemon. So for me, i like pokemon that most gloss over and just dont assume theirs any thing deeper or more specific about it.

Although I respect the opinions of my favorite poketubers, I just am so angry that you could possibly hate drizzile. I love its emo teenager design it is just so cool. It has so many behaviors that just scream; COOL TEENAGER! It's hands actually make perfect sense as a transition phase between the two fingers of sobble and the five of inteleon! The only problem I have with this mon is the weird standing/crawling shift. Drizzlie is one of my absolute favorite Pokémon. Thanks for reading.

My “Fenny” (original name, I know) was my first Pokémon in my first game and I’m still super attached, fennekin still is my favorite Pokémon, at one point 9 year old me collected fennekin cards anytime I saw one, gen 6 will forever be in my heart

@@Tumblekitten pokemon xy wasn't really my first pokemon game but it was the very first pokemon game that I finished by beating the league (well, it's one of the easiest lol). I didn't beat it with my starter considering that I replaced it really early on the adventure with other pokemon but I remember preferring Fennekin of all 3 of them. I also remember being so happy that it evolved into Braixen after beating the first gym and I've never seen the final evolution Delphox since I remplaced it.
Years later, after getting into many favorite pokemon, I ended up getting back with Braixen (named Roussette) as a favorite pokemon because it reminded me so much memories and also because it's a little French fry like me :3. And since this was the game where beat the league for the first time, it was as if it was my first pokemon in some way.
I'm glad the Fennekin line wasn't in the list and that there is also Fennekins enjoyers here.

Like, y'know... An even larger locomotive machine that transports large quantities of coal and sometimes runs on the stuff... A train perhaps? Or even one of those giant yellow construction trucks instead? I mean just to keep it consistent... I still like Carkol though, Coalossal even more so!
