It's important for people to know that coaching is an industry regulated profession that is by no means the wild west . there are at least 28 ethics guidelines listed on the ICF website...

There are some coaches who haven’t had professional training who are good, some mentors/advisors who can share their experience without training, however if you want to know you’re getting value, checking they’ve done some training AND you learn from them is a win-win. You know they meet a minimum quality. Some people call themselves coaches and have never read the ICF guidelines!
