      @@Speakconfidentenglish. Thank you so much for your tips, I have difficulties speaking English. I mean pronouncing words, but when it comes to writing I speak fluently. I learnt English through reading, as I'm a passionate reader. But I have a problem, when I have written conversations, the words flew easily, and I answers instantly. Yet, when it comes to speaking, the words eludes me and I start searching for words to describe what I intend to say. Is it normal? Have you met someone who have the same problem as me?

    I just found this video. In my teaching career, I always have a thought that speaking so fast is good and better than speaking slowly. When I teach my students in class, I now have principle that dont have to speak fast. Again, clarity and fluent are needed to make my students understand what I am explaining in class. I dont need to rush. Perhaps for some people it is annoying listening to a slows speaker. I more believe now that what I have done is correct. Other thing is perhaps we dont have to show people some difficult words to show that we are Inteligent or educated. Bravo Anne, Thank You.

    Thank you for this wonderful video! I would like to share how I improved my English throughout the years.
    One of the things I used to do (and in fact, still do) is write a diary in English. Since English is not my native language, this was a challenge for me, and I couldn't use English all the time. For example, I managed to write 1 page in English and another in my mother tongue. This made me feel way more confident in expressing myself mostly because I didn't think about it AT ALL - I just wrote what came to mind spontaneously. And didn't care about the mistakes. I totally enjoyed the process. This is what I would call the safe space for me you talked about - that space where you can easily make mistakes, even the silliest ones, without being judged. Since I am a teacher myself now, I still find it useful, because, you know, I spot myself sometimes writing down something very ungrammatical, which, of course, if said in the classroom, would be uncomfortable.
    I could also add to this that your tips could also be related to overcoming stammering; I used to stammer a lot as a child and somehow overcame it by having more friends; but sometimes I still have had problems with that when under stress. I recently realised that by speaking more slowly and giving myself more time to think, I overcome it totally. So yeah, a very inspiring video!

    I read a book that really helps me, now I know the secret how to learn to speak English quickly. The only thing that keeps us to still not learn to speak English is our mind. If you're afraid to speak English because you think you will commit mistakes, then sorry you will never learn to speak English. Trying to speak English doesn't mean to be perfect just like we learned in school. But speaking in English is to communicate, don't be afraid to make an error. Speak in English forget the "one correct answer" rule that school taught us, your study to communicate and not to impress your teacher. You're not in school anymore, use what ever you learned in reality. Just like me, I never afraid if I have mistakes in my sentences, I'm not native English speaker. So, what I'm afraid? I'm just a learner, means it's natural to have a mistake. Just speak again and again in English. THE FACT IS IT IS BETTER TO TRY AND TRY AND MISTAKE AND TRY AGAIN THAN NOTHING. So, you know the answer why you didn't learn or progress, because of the wrong mindset. Be always positive, don't think any bad things. Your focus is to learn.

      Help a Non-Native English Language Teacher.
      I need help with how verbs agree with sentences that begin with percentages, portions and fractions.
      For example, do I say, three-quarters of the building has been painted or three-quarters of the building have been painted.
      Should I say, A range of options have been made available or a range of options has been made available.
      Please I need clarifications, the answers I get from AI is different from the lessons I've read and watched online.

    • @Speakconfidentenglish
      @Speakconfidentenglish  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      With these sentences you still want to follow basic subject-verb agreement rules.
      In your first example, the subject is the singular noun "the building" so you verb would be has.
      And in your second, the subjection is "options" thus a plural verb form is the right choice.

    What a great lesson! Thank you, AnneMarie!
    I did a training last year on facilitating workshops where we did an exercise: at the end of day one, we made a presentation to our group, and we got feedback. Later we repeated the presentation on day 3. One thing that surprised me was that everyone slowed down when they were presenting, and the message was much clearer. When I rush to speak, it is my signal that I’m not confident in my message :)

    One of my key sources of confidence when speaking publicly has been to not care about my audience. Particularly as I have continued to grow in age; when you get older you stop caring about some things, including people's opinions and what they think. When younger, you put many people on a pedestal, and so when standing before people you are often conscious of what people are thinking about you and you try hard to prove a point, only ending up anxious and making even more mistakes. When you stop caring, you become yourself, are more comfortable in your skin, and you do your thing.
