Thanks for making this video. My Pontiac Vibe 2005 stereo just stop working. I will be looking for the new generation car stereo and your video will help me to connect them together.
the reason why the connectors aren't toyota, but instead general motors is because the matrix uses almost the exact same interior and connectors as the pontiac vibe, which pontiac is/was part of generalmotors.
If you can't find the Scosche GM035, for your Vibe/Matrix 03-04 ! You can also use the Metra 70-2003 but will also need the Metra 40GM10 Antenna adapter sold separately, unless you buy your new radio from crutchfield then they come for free !
BE CAREFUL, there are 2 tabs at the top of the bezel that have been broken off the bezel in the video. you can see one still in the top left hole in the dash! (to the RIGHT of the air duct outlet, not the top left corner!) They are kind of "L" shaped and I don't know how to get them loose with out damage because mine were broken by the previous owner. Maybe use a trim pry tool... also, Toyota & GM head units are TWO SEPARATE entities with different connectors...
the deck rear had 2 yellow RCA jacks on the back so presumably it's for NTSC composite video like a rear cam and maybe an AUX video input. the wiring hardness adapter's unused wires would probably be for subwoofer outputs - every car needs a subwoofer to feel the vibes!
Wonder if there is a Toyota stock stereo that has Bluetooth I could just swap out. This way i will not have to go through all the wiring harness and adapters.
I agree with buying from Crutchfield. They have plug in adapters that make installation very easy and much nicer trim plates. The blue box looks a bit cheesy. But very informative video!
I know it's been 4 years, but in case anyone else cares, the best thing you can do is _not_ buy a car with an aftermarket alarm! It's always a hack job, because it only has to work long enough to drive out of the install bay. "Removing" is basically not an option unless you have a spare wiring harness, or are _real_ handy with a soldering iron while working up under the dashboard!
I just wanted to know if my stereo/CD/Radio is in fact broken and actually needs replacing. There is still power through the unit as I can check the clock,(but that's all) . The alarm light flashes constantly flashing as if the car is shut off. How can I tell if the radio unit is in fact screwed before I start yanking it out ?
@vuaeco I have a question? The Pontiac vibe and the Toyota matrix used a subwoofer, the conventional stereo only have 4 outputs, where double you connected the subwoofer?(fifth speaker) please please answer me, I will thank you greatly.
My new stereo only has 4 outputs (4 pairs of speaker wires). The adapter cable (wiring harness adapter) also has 4 pairs of speaker wires with matching colors to the stereo speaker wires. So I only installed what was available to me at the time. I didn't see the fifth pair of speaker/sub so I wasn't even aware it existed. :D
Right, the Vibe uses the standard double dinn and it's fairly straight forward to install. I'm not a fan of the pioneer that I bought. I'd look for a different radio.
It should be in the bundle with the rest of the cables in the harness. If you have it apart all by itself then it got loose and came apart. Did you get the same cable as mine in the video?
If you have the exact same cable as mine in the video, take a look at 9:12 and you can see the red cable right next to the yellow cable on the grey connector.
vuaeco ok i found the issue. i bought a package for GM vehicules from 98’ and up, and on some vehicule that extra red cable is not present on the default harness... you see me coming now, matrix from 03-04 do not need this cable though. So yeah no issue there man ! cheers
Sorry it's been a while and I can't remember exactly how I mounted it! I didn't use any aftermarket mount for it. I think I used 2 old metal brackets from the old stereo to mount it on the new stereo. I made a home made coroplast box held together by tape. The stereo only has 2 mounts (instead of 4) because it's thinner than the original stereo. Then it jst rests on top of that coroplast box.
@@HondaCivic-ut6wx you know I got to thinking and I figured that that might be the case so I just ordered these heat shrink things that will go over the connections. Would that be a better solution?
I would like to install Android car radio with by, rearview camera and screen share. Is it possible to install in 2003 matrix? Which one would you recommend?

Yeah but its toyota car .. Maybe they did take gm connector cause it seems a GM head unit
Oh so I can do the same thing on my 06 vibe?
@@yum_bat I think so
Vibe and matrix where made on the same line
@@georgegriego2292 Matrix was made at TMMC in Ontario and Vibe was made at the NUMMI plant in Fremont.
Thanks for clarifying the harness selection. I was able to get the model harness for $5.
Most of the vibes have a passenger air bag recall contact your local gm dealer to make sure yours doesn’t

Informative and hilarious. What more could one want?
Great vid ! Very informative! I’ll agree w most comments to go w sodder and shrink wrap - once you’ve tested and all goes well/ works. Thx again!👍🏼

Great video! Your accent is very neat! What accent do you have/what is your heritage?
I don't know the man personally, but he has a distinct Earthican accent...
It's alot easier to order from Crutchfield where they provide all the necessary harnesses/adapter in their installation kit.
Easier still to buy a new car. So what?

Only some come with the subwoofer not. All of them
Base model matrix and vibe have no subwoofer
I have a Pontiac vibe 2004 what stereo receiver do you reccomend
I bought the Pioneer AVH-290BT the other day, I'm planning on installing it tomorrow with a backup camera. I can let you know in a day or two.
Lee U please let me know and it's for the Pontiac vibe right? let me know if it all connects and you should do a video of that I would love to see it

What is the part number of that connector ?
question. i bought the harness cable, but the kit came with a red cable for ignition. why you don’t have it ?
It does have a red cable. That's the 12V power on cable. That cable is only on when the ignition is on.
vuaeco yeah but where did you pass it ? mine is just sitting apart from the harness ? it goes where ?

Blue wire doesn't just mean old school.. power antenna.. it could be for boosted antenna as well.. should of hooked it up

My matrix is an 05, will it still work?
05 matrix stereo is a bit different. I suspect the connectors are different also but I'm not 100% sure.
vuaeco I’ll have to probably just take it in and let one of those installers do it
I re watch this video for your voice lel
