    Im pretty competent on installing these things but was curious enough to look at yours. For anyone reading this who is not sure about installing a car radio, this is one of of the best instructionals I have come across. Plain talk without too much "jargon" and excellent teaching skills here.....10/10 WELL DONE!!!

    Thank you so much!! I was sold the wrong harness for my honda civic, and out of frustration I randomly decided that I had innate knowledge of wiring harnesses and lopped off the factory harness to hard wire the after market harness onto it. After 3 hours of fiddling and soldering the wrong wires together, I gave up and closed up the garage and hopped on youtube to find this video. The next morning I ran to the nearest hardware store, and got everything wired and setup in an hour. 10/10 would recommend everybody watch this video. Even if you're not wiring a stereo. Like if you're on the toilet and plan on staring at a wall mindlessly for the next 2 hours, i'd recommend you watch this video while you're doing that.

    You, Sir, are a STAR!! Took out the original factory-fitted radio and was baffled by the number of wires that such a simple piece of kit had. Looked like hundreds of white wires into four different connecter blocks.....what are they all for?

    Easily the best, most helpful video ever. Wiring of any sort isn't my strong suit, but usinf this video and a test light I had a new radio installed in my classic Mini in about 2 hours. There was a rat's nest of an old harness, eleventy million inline fuses, and several t- connectors that seemed to go in circles. I cut all of it out and followed these instructions to the letter and the new radio was up and running as soon as I turned it on. Hooray!

    Soldering and marine heat shrink then wrap makes for a much more reliable wire connection over crimps plus a nice smooth harness when finished. Marine heat shrink has a waterproof glue inside and you get a nice sealed joint every time. Apart from that a great presentation by this guy.

    If you do not own a light tester like he uses to find the constant 12v, and accessory 12v then you can use a volt meter on continuity function and it will make a sound when it completes a circuit. Just connect the red (+) of the voltmeter to the wire, and the black (-) probe to a ground like he did in the video.

    Excellent in depth instructions, great job! That said I would strongly recommend to folks watching this who don't have a wiring harness to just get a wiring harness for your vehicle! If you ever want to upgrade later you will thank yourself. Not to mention any future owners of the vehicle. I get that you may not care about the next person but I can say from experience that one of the worst feelings is going to upgrade or install a radio in a used vehicle is looking in and seeing a wiring harness that's chopped to oblivion , usually with far too little wires remaining. It makes any install at least twice as difficult and 5x as aggravating. Only use this method if it's the only option, I wish the video at least made that disclaimer.

    I struggled for two days trying to install a new BT JVC head unit into my 2005 Elantra and even took the head unit to a radio installer for help but even after offering to pay for their time they just wanted the car and the job so I gave up. The problem was the plug on the end of the harness just would not budge so I cut the factory wires and just tried to connect using the details on the old head unit and the new one but just could not get it to power up. I had checked the under bonnet fuse and the under dash fuse for radio and both were fine. This video recommended using a light up probe which I purchased at Supercheap for $10. Still no power then when I listened to the instructions again the fuse that controls the interior light was mentioned and when I checked it was blown and all of a sudden light on the roof and power into the head unit. The rest was easy. Great advice, saved probably $150 to $200 because they would have found a thousand reasons to justify the charge so very happy with result and have now subscribed..Grant Tasmania Aust

    Good morning sir. Just wanted to say thank you for the information you have provided here. Am currently attempting to install an aftermarket single DIN stereo unit in my car and I entered the project not knowing a single thing about wiring. Am entering day 2 here because I ran out of sunlight. I do not have the adapter harness for my year range so I decided to direct wire the unit to the factory connections, and BOY is this job a headache. I mapped out which wire goes to what thanks to some wiring diagrams I found on TH-cam and thanks to your video I think I have obtained the knowledge to finish wiring everything to the new stereo. Hopefully I will complete this by today so I can enjoy music once again and also hoping that nothing was done incorrectly. I appreciate your work here. Thanks.

    I've installed a car stereo here and there back when I was a teen (80's), and this was by far one of the best instructions for doing it yourself - even down to the polarity of the speakers. Many do not know that part and will install great sounding speakers that sound terrible after installed from simply + added to - accidentally.
    I have a 1986 Nissan Maxima with factory stereo and speakers still installed. Nothing modern - even the tape deck. The left speakers go in and out (usually over bumps). After being on the plantation (work) all day, I don't always have the time or energy to do it myself, so I'd like anyone's advice on where to start 1st to save me time. Door / rear left speaker or straight to the stereo itself? From limited and old experience, my instinct says check the stereo - since the right side shows no sign of fade....only the left. Thanks in advance to any suggestions.

      2 yrs later but I always start with fuses, easiest cheapest thing to check and can save you so much time and money in needless repairs. Then i'd check the deck and then the speakers and last most labour intensive the system wiring. Sometimes animals get in and chew stuff up. You'd be surprised the spaces mice and snakes get into.

    • @blazonbyrd5996
      @blazonbyrd5996 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nyizzle4533 Very true! Animals will destroy wiring. Fuses are good and speakers are new - it must be the stereo. I'd hate to remove any plastic molding at this point (35 year old car) since dry rot is a definite factor. Thanks for the reply & advice!

    Hello. Thanks for this video, it is very good! I followed all steps but I'm not getting any sound on m speakers. I tested the wires using a 9v battery as you showed but nothing happens. The installation is on a western star truck model 4964 year 2006. Do you have any idea of what could be happening? There's no color coding on the wires and the Sony unit I'm installing is working fine! Thanks.

      Sounds like you may have a factory amplifier in your car.. What is the year make a model? If you have a factory amp you will need to bypass it or still use it but sometimes you have to have a special interface to make it work or really understand some advanced electrical stuff to make it work..

    My install turned out to be easier than I thought since the old radio had a chart on it detailing what every wire was and all I had to do is match to the new radio wiring. I used heat shrink connectors which have a small metal collar in the center that is squeezed and results in a smaller bundle of wires rather than the white crimp cap type. From Amazon also the Kenwood radio caught it on Black Friday sale. Yea! Thanks to this video for heading me in the right direction.

    Not a bad video... but to make life easier then this, so the price you will pay for crimper and wire crimps you could just buy a Year/Brand match SCOSCHE install Adapter for $5.99 at Walmart lol ... unless you have Crimping gear kicking around... I personally wouldn't do a Crimp install unless absolutely necessary... in saying that, this guy did do a great job, very clean looking... but... is he just going to leave that big hole?? Scosche also sells Dash Kits, cost about $15.99 at Walmart... it covers up the Hole and Voids that your aftermarket deck may not fill, like this guy... his deck does not fill the factory deck location, as seen in the video... food for thought.

    • @Impact009
      @Impact009 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some adapters still require crimping. The whole point is that if we cared about looks in the first place, then we would have paid for it at the dealership. Most of automotive DIYers spend our money on functionality, not aesthetics.

      If your car is ghetto to the point you dont have a factory harness and you are seeking out this video to find out how to rig this as cheap as possible instead of buying one, then you probably dont give a shit about the hole or saving time, because your poor ghetto ass just wants to hear some music as cheap as possible

      Anyways Brian,
      I am having trouble with a 2006 Colorado. I actually have 2 connectors that go to my old radio, one is a 24 and the other a 12. I found the constant, ground, and all speaker, but I cant find the ignition. After cutting all the wires, I tried to turn my truck back on and it never turned over. Now the lights or nothing will turn back on. Any clue?
