Just a quick video showing how easy it is to change the starter on a 2005 Toyota Matrix. Save yourself some money and change the starter motor yourself. This would be the same for the Toyota Corolla and the Pontiac Vibe and any other vehicles that have the 1ZZ-FE engine.
This vehicle wouldn't start even though the battery was fully charged and was sending power to the starter. After tapping on the old starter with a hammer, it did start just fine. It was just time for a new one after all these years and over 300k miles.
    Tools Needed:
    10mm socket and/or wrench
    12mm socket and/or wrench
14mm sockets (shallow and deep) and/or wrench
    3" extension, 6" extension
Long handle breaker bar and/or long handle ratchet
Small screwdriver or trim prying tool
(You may also need a 13mm wrench and/or socket if you get a 13mm nut with your replacement starter).
The torque specs that I found online for the main starter mounting bolts are 27 ft. lbs.
    Thanks for watching!

Just did this job on my '07 Vibe, yup remove cooling fan assy, make sure to disconnect battery, fly at 'er!, one plug, a 13mm on your pos. starter feed, two 14mm bolts (one on the lower left, other upper right under your harness, no need for an extensions, just move it up, undo the top to almost done, take the lower one out, undo the rest of top bolt and leave it in the hole :) ) Good vid man! I have a bunch of physical issues with arthritis etc. and it still took me just over an hour. IMHO Matrix and Vibes are very good cars for what they are, foolish that their production run was ended.

I am extremely grateful for this video there is other videos that tell you that you have to remove the intake manifold and that's a lot of work for nothing.
It is a piece of cake to remove the fan assembly like You show in this video.
After I remove the two big bolts the starter was stock and I started to panic.
So I grabbed a short piece of 2 X4 and with a rock and I got it out with 2 hits, I didn't have a mallet at hand 🤣.
Thank you so much for this excellent video 👌👍.

Great video. I am currently working on my first car (used Pontiac G3 2010) and it's having a delayed start so I am thinking about changing the alternator and/or starter. I already changed the spark plugs but to no effect. Still a novice to car fixing and it was previously owned by a nice old lady who had no use for it. I think this will help.

Its not the original starter.....original starter has 13mm not 12mm nut for battery cable.

How did you know it was the starter

    • @bullvine1974
      @bullvine1974 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

One sure way to see if it's the starter is to have someone try and start the car while you rack on the starter with a hammer or tire iron. If the tries to start or does start while doing this when it otherwise wasn't starting, then it's the starter.
