- The fourth book of the Stormlight Archive, Rhythm of War, was released a few months ago and ever since reading it I’ve had the story running through my head regularly. And as is usually the case with unfinished stories, this Cosmere entry by Brandon Sanderson raised a lot of questions that I’m hungry for answers to. So I thought I’d share the top five most pressing questions I have on this book with you guys...

My biggest question, is Adolin going to find a way to restore Maya and become an Edgedancer, or are they gonna create a new kind of bond and become something different from a Radiant?
I don't want Adolin to become a radiant, one of the most interesting things about him is that he isn't mainly because he chooses to.
I'm hoping he becomes something new
I got a hunch that what Odium did to Hoid is a subpoint of the question what Cultivation is planning. In fact the assumption that Taravangian came up with the plan to manipulate Hoid is odd. Who is known to be able to alter memories?
It seems to me that Cultivation wants Odium out of Roshar. She is not interested in sacrificing herself for the rest of the Cosmere. If the other Shards want Odium fought, they shall do so themselves as far as she is concerned.
Hmm an interesting theory. Never thought of it that way
I feel like Taravangian/Odium interacting with the Breath is similar to ruin messing with the contents of metal minds - information is not safe from shards when not inside someone's head. Or written in metal
I’m curious as to what Kaladin’s fifth ideal is going to be. But I’m fairly certain that’ll be answered in the next book. Focusing on that on since your questions, which are also super intriguing, are killing me having to (most likely) wait for so long.

i feel like it'll be "i will protect myself when i cannot protect others" or something along those lines... like to say he won't give up and rip himself apart over his failures. that was what i thought the fourth ideal would be

I think it will be about protecting himself before others... cos that will be SO hard for him
Also: what does the fifth ideal get him?
Regarding Ishars evil experiments: what I want to know even more than what and why he is doing this, is HOW spren, who are not technically alive in the first place ‘lived’ long enough to die and leave a corpse? HOW can what Zahel call pure investiture gaining life, go from incorporeal substance to fully solid corpse? Is there still investiture in the corpses or are they made of something else now? If so what? These questions keep me up at night! Like right now, I should be sleeping!

So I literally just finished ROW today, so i'm answering this even though i am a couple of months late. I believe that instead of those being purely the physical manifistation of spren, I believe that it was more of a twisted expirament turning humans into a singer like being. I think Ishar somehow figured out a way to "overwrite" the soul of a human using a similar method to the forms of the singers while using investiture to manifest the physical change of the human subject. While this does still leave the question open as to how the physical change occured since this sort of soul healing has mostly only been seen with minor physical healing due to a changed mental state like when kaladins branding healed, it makes more sense than a being only lightly being able to manifest from the nihil bond going straight into a fully physical being
@@Schlumbuo well he is associated with the essence of sinew and flesh so that might play a part into how he was able to give spren a physical form maybe in conjunction with his unchained bondsmithing
Hoid noticed that he no longer had perfect pitch…and wasn’t surprised. And if you go back and read the story he was telling himself when Taravodium showed up, it looks like what he would have been thinking if he had a trick planned.
Which raises the opposite implications from your fear. How would Hoid know that Odium had swapped holders? How would Hoid set a trap for a shard? If anybody understands them well enough, it would be him, but that makes *him* kind of scary, no?
If that is the case (and I have my doubts) it would speak volumes as to how scary Hoid is for sure

Ishar may be interested in becoming a Spren.
He may be conflating Honor with a Spren, and he already has the insane belief that he is the vessel of Honor.
Becoming a Spren may be his way, twisted though it may be, to become what he believes a Shard is.
All the heralds essentially are Spren. That’s why they were trying to capture them in gems.

I thought they were something else. Like a third entity, both outside and a part of the Spren/Material landscape. Like there are Spren, then there are people, then there are Heralds.
@@someguy4384 Vasher and the heralds are investiture filling the soul as they die to imitate life in a way. Spren are investiture become sentient. Both are investiture though just one imitating life or attaching to the body and personality that existed and one that created its own. There are differences but I don’t see any that substantial. I would actually say it’s more like he is trying to make Spren like him and have a physical form.
I think vasher is going to come out of left feild and save the day, he's a returned all returned are brought back with a purpose and the name they're given is related to that purpose, he's still around because he still has a war to break

Love this idea, vasher’s a straight up g, and i hope he has a major role to play in the coming books
He is warbreaker the peaceful, I think his impact will come in era 2. I do like the theory that he will awaken all the soul cast light eyes and end the war.
@@an7f3rn33 I've given it some thought and still feel it's likely that he'll play a big part, we don't know why vivena is after him but she said she's after a criminal, so that makes me think he fucked off with the cache of breaths the god king is keeping safe. Also in Warbreaker I remember lightsong being told returned come back because they see something in the tapestry of fate that is worth giving up your eternal rest for and as that thing drew closer he started remembering/ have gut instincts that drew him twords his second fate. Also vasher is one of the five scholars and besides hoid is earliest world hopper I can think of he's probably been trying to figure out how to convert storm light into breaths for centuries, lightsong literally gave the man of light his song aka tongue back and then died again. One way on another vasher is sitting on a pile of breaths in my book and still has a war to break

I'm pretty sure that kelsier is interested in the other cognitive shadows(heralds) because he wants a way to leave scadrial. Secret history heavily implies that after being connected to the well he is unable to leave the planet, at least in the cognitive realm.

@RavensRants Learning his identity made me re-read Mistborn, only to remember that Kelsier is entirely capable and even quite likely to turn into a villian if he lived in a peaceful era.
A careful read seems to imply that Hoid got the upper hand of that interaction.
Hoid always gets the upper hand, whether the characters realise it or not XD

@@dzaqwanamir that’s why both times he felt odium he sensed a “tingle with his breaths my theory is he felt odiums intent prior to the action and felt the consequences afterward another interesting thing I saw on Reddit is he might’ve used the coins he had to back up important memories
So I think Hoid has a contingency plan for Odium related to his flute it has been brought up in every book and may have some use in 5.
As fir her having nightblood at one point I theorize that she took it in trade from Vasher so that he could have access to her investiture to fuel his life, to replace his breaths.

I have my theories which answer your questions 1 (something to do with herald's bodies) and 5 (incentivizing the space age). What I really want to know is about Vasher and Vivenna. Because I have no clue.
I'd love to know what led Vasher and Vivenna from Warbreaker to where they are now. Curse you Sanderson and your mysterious ways!
@@RavensRants Sanderson said that warbreaker 2 its gonna answer what happened with them, at least it will give us context on how or why they got separated....
i think he has a good intentions, Ghostbloods are going to rule the Shadesmar and he want to ,,materialize,, all spren and rule them here in psychical realm. also i think he is aware of Thaidakar and knows that Gavilar is a cognitive shadow now so he want to save the spren but find a way to ,,kill,, cognitive shadow like these two
I'm pretty sure the book outright states that Vargodium simply destroyed the extra Breaths. Also, there is WoB confirming that Hoid was "hornswoggled" in that scene.

Well, I mean Hoid has a spren. Just because Hoid won’t remember anything, doesn’t mean his spren won’t.

Hoid being a ferruchemist makes me think him playing with the coins is very important. Also that it still ended with his thinking it went as planned.
Still not sure if he expected all that happened, but I bet he had some ideas and stored some memories away for safe keeping
It's not certain he's a ferruchemist, we only know he's a Mistborn but ferruchemy is just kind of a guess at this point
I wouldn't be surprised if he had a backup plan of some sort though

I think Kelsier is trying to find a way to get investiture from Roshar to Scadrial in order to fuel his own resurrection
I mean I don't think anyone can contest that Zahel or Vasher is better then Kaladin, I'd argue that Adolin is better then Kaladin without his radiant powers coming into effect. No stormlight, no lashings I'd put my money on Adolin being the one to walk away. But that's beside the point I would be willing to bet that Vasher could take both Kaladin and Adolin at the same time. (No nightblood.)

Kelsier is Thaidakar? WHAT?!? How did you figure?
There are clues in RoW and Brandon confirmed it too. He's also said the next Mistborn book will say it outright and have Ghostbloods on Scadrial
@@RavensRants I was way off with my theory. I assumed when someone referred to Thaidakar as The Lord of Scars that it was in reference to Mraize, so I guessed Mraize was somehow secretely Thaidakar. Or that it referred to Nale, as he to has a distinct scar that is always mentioned. I totally forgot about The Survivor though 😅

Who is arguing that Kaladin is more skilled than Zahel? Zahel *plays* with Kaladin when they spar.

During those instances, Kal isn't using his abilities as a Windrunner, and Zahel uses Breaths. On the otherhand, Zahel doesn't have Nightblood, and probably isn't putting 100% effort into it.
If Kal and Vasher fought 1v1 to the death, I'm not sure Vasher would win without Nightblood.
@@carlsmith4568 Exactly. Zahel wasn't even the best fighter on his own planet. And here on Roshar, which is a breeding ground for the best fighters in the cosmere, Kaladin was selected by Odium to be his champion.
@@rock53355 multiple hundred years of experience and practice are definitely enough to be more skilled than kaladin and the only people on nalthis who were more skilled are denth and arsteel(more people with multiple hundred years of experience and practice)
@@Suplex479 Plenty of people are hundreds and thousands of years old, doesn't make them a natural fighter. Brandon himself has said Kaladin or dalinar are the best warriors in the cosmere. Simply goign by individual feats, kaladin's are the most impressive in any cosmere book. Zahel has been described as a good swordfighter, but have we read about them? Kaladin being the best fighter on roshar (which by odium's admission is the training ground for the best fighters in the cosmere) means something.
Zahel is more skilled but kaladin is more talented. Zahels has lived for millenia which gives one plenty of time to hone ones skills, but kaladin take on people many many times older and more experienced than himself and wins. Kaladin with a long life would likely become the greatest fighter in the cosmere and if not the best certainly one of the best.
i think the best fighter at this moment on Roshar is Nale (i want to see him using Division finally)

I do try to avoid spoilers. Thaidakar's identity has not been expressly confirmed in any Cosmere book yet, but it was puzzled out by the community. My bad bro
