WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Religion could not survive without the concept of hell.
I remember crying so hard as a kid when I was told "liars go to hell". traumatic shit
Thats not entirely true. Most religions dont really have the same concept of hell as Christianity does. While there is usually some form of punishment/reward after death, they tend to be more temporary, with the Soul eventually moving on in some way.

There is a concept similar to “Hell” in Buddhism except it’s not permanent

The fact remains that you have no coherent, step-by-step atheist explanation for NOTHING (or some other atheist cause/source) to MAN existence and every step you care to submit has already been proved to be totally IRRATIONAL and IMPOSSIBLE. Go ahead and start in telling me how a rock came from nothing, got rained on and formed the first cell that had systems within to eat, digest food, eliminate waste, move, breathe and reproduce. What dust from a star, moist rock or mud puddle had the INTELLIGENCE, POWER, PURPOSE AND MEANS to create/design 10 million DIFFERENT species, the human being and ALL the co-existent bodily systems (circulatory, respiratory, reproductive, pulmonic, digestive, skeletal, muscular, nervous, body (skin), etc., etc.) intertwined in symmetry and order in the human body. Tell me what INTELLIGENT AGENT of your atheist cult placed the nucleotides of DNA into informationally meaningful sequences to give rise to all the life I named.
When I was a child, I begrudgingly did as I was told and attended church despite being miserable there, but I never believed in it.... But I played along because I was a child and I was surrounded by pressure from my community and family...
As soon as I was a teenager, I abandoned all pretense and I was openly atheist before I entered college...
I never felt a need or desire to look back...

As Matt has said- what you believe is not a choice. It is simply what you believe to be true. How you act according to that is either truth ,cognitive dissonance, or simply a lie to yourself or others

How would I then be able to determine that if what I believe is not simply cognitive dissonance or a lie? Does someone ELSE have to make that determination for me? I could relate to this guy. I've been indoctrinated to catholic and Mormonism for 30 years of my life
I've been atheist since childhood, I remember believing when I was really little, but anytime I think about it now it felt more like I thought Bible school and camp was more of a fun game than something to learn from, and at least from what I remember I only paid attention in church when we got to sing.
I know I had to believe because when I realized I was not straight I was terrified I would go to hell. By the time I realized I was trans in middle school I'd already stopped believing. I think I'm very lucky, in that I wasn't incredibly invested in the church and found that not believing was just as easy. It's not realistic that one guy created the entire universe and life, with no evidence to back that theory. When all the evidence points to evolution and the big bang
It's trauma.
When someone was abused by a parent during childhood, they may carry that around with them for a long time, and they may still fear what would happen if they break rules they had as a child. And that can be the case even when their parent was clearly there, and clearly isn't there any more. So it's perfectly understandable that you'd have some trouble getting over being threatened with eternal consequences by an invisible being that can see everything you do and think.
It takes time to move past that, and don't be afraid to talk to other former believers about it, or find a (non-religious) therapist to talk to.
It's a shame there's so much delay with the call here, but good video nonetheless

@@ajclements4627 To be fair, there has been a measurable decline. The subs were at 378K about a week ago and now it's at 376K. The numbers are only in 1K increments, so it's hard to tell.
During this time, Matt's channel has gone from sitting at 157K since a month ago, to within the past several days, going up 7K to 164K.

However, even though the whole thing is symbolic magic, what it represents is still the body and blood of Jesus. If one eats, symbolically or otherwise, this body and blood of a man, it follows logically that ritual cannibalism is practiced. A simple syllogism will illustrate this:
P1: Jesus commanded his followers to eat his body and blood.
P2: You symbolically eat the body and blood.
C: You are practicing ritual cannibalism.

*In medieval times they understood the Sacrament literally.* There is a graphic portrayal of the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist hanging in an art museum in Holland. It is a painting from the middle ages. It pictures a medieval altar with a crucifix behind and a tabernacle for the keeping of the reserved sacrament below the crucifix. The setting is normal, except that the crucifix is empty, with no body, only the nail holes in the wood. What is strange is that there is a ladder from the crucifix down to the tabernacle on the altar with what is apparently a trail of blood leading down from the ladder to the tabernacle. The artist represents the holy consecrated elements of bread and wine as the literal broken Body and Blood of our crucified Lord.
