    WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Therapists for for those who have uncertainties in their lives. Religion is an antiquated, useless institution that currently preaches hate and exclusion. It spreads lies to people and basically tells them that they shouldn't "sin" but even if they did all they have to do is ask for forgiveness and they're good to go. I'll put it simply by copy pasting the abstract of a recent multilevel analysis, a scientific study I'll link to in some way in a separate reply incase YT algorithms don't like there being link data in the reply.
      Here you go:
" _Drawing on social norms theories, we suggest that religiosity substantially increases subjective well-being if it is considered normative in a certain national context. In Study 1, we test this hypothesis using an indicator of a country's social norm of religiosity that includes both the national level of religiosity and the social desirability of religion. The results of a multilevel regression analysis suggest that religious individuals are on average happier and more satisfied with life than non-religious individuals. This effect is stronger in religious countries with dominant negative attitudes towards non-believers. In Study 2, we further examine whether the differences in social recognition of religious and non-religious individuals in countries where religiosity is normative account for this finding. The results of a moderated mediation analysis indicate that in religious countries, religious people report being treated with more respect, which partially explains their higher levels of happiness and life satisfaction_ ."

Also I found the whole 'forgiveness' thing hypocritical. Like I can lead a good life and go to Hell for not believing, but a r@pist or murderer can have a death bed conversion and all is forgiven?
I also no longer have to defend all he horrible things, the slavery, genocide etc.

Most animals in the American continent are pretty crap to domesticate back then. Whereas in the other half of the world, domesticated animals were around for thousands of years and thus, the people there had access to cattle, had easier time doing agriculture, etc., getting more manpower per settlement, having cities, therefore had more resources to craft weapons, etc. Switch it around and the "indigenous" people would probably be the ones conquering through Europe.

His argument is so stupid, just cause they seem happier, that is the way to go? Not at all, it's fake happiness. If you deal with reality you will be more set to deal with problems when they occur. I think everyone with a sane mind would rather be depressed from time to time and deal with in a good way and actually live in reality, than to believe in something invisible to help out. His argument falls off on its own. Easily debunked.

But let's say I agree with the Christians and say that it's possible that "if I still belived in God, I would be happier." It's more important to me what is true, and not just what makes me happy. I could pretend all the things that make me sad do not exist, I could pretend no children are dying of cancer and no one in Earth is starving, if I could actually convince myself of this I would be happier, but sometimes the truth is sad. I would argue that in predominantly religious countries, you'll likely be 'happier' conforming to the religion of your country because you will have more opportunities to find communities based on that religion. However, countries that are less religious as a whole are reportedly happier than countries that are more religious. In the US it's easy to find community going to church and it might be much harder to find that kind of community outside of church. That has nothing to do with 'god' or 'religion', it has to do with PEOPLE. If the US didn't have so many churches and religious communities, we'd likely have more secular communities without the religious baggage attached to it. So I'd argue it's WORSE that we are so religious.

So, then why is it that the countries with the highest self reported happiness tend to be the ones that are least religious?
So, then why is it that every atheist I see on youtube or commenting on youtube says they are much happier now they've recovered from religion?
I think what's actually in that research is that people who are non-religious in a heavily religious country are less happy, such as the USA, because of how they're treated, because they're an oppressed minority. NOT because they actually miss out on religion.
Wow, this guy clearly has no clue how evolution works. WHAT A CULTURE TEACHES IS NOT PART OF YOUR GENES, buddy. IF your claims were true, it MIGHT be seen as a CULTURAL advantage to be religious. But even so (and I call bullshit on it, but let's pretend) that's what is known as a local maximum, and would in no way imply it's the best maximum. Because it seems obvious to me that there's much more cultural advantage in dealing with reality and allowing everyone to participate rather than just the in group. And just as obviously you're not going to get there by pointing at the people you're oppressing and saying they don't seem happy.
You can do community, meditation and yoga without being religious Henri... respect for others, mindfulness and physical exercise have nothing to do with religion specifically. I would say especially respect doesn't. Hence the unhappy atheists in theistic countries...
Henri, you keep saying how widely spread religion is shows it's beneficial. This is utter nonsense. This couldn't be further for the truth. For one thing, something being far spread does in no way indicate it's beneficial, it only indicates it's been able to spread far. Religions are wide spread because they've been forced onto others with huge amounts of violence and manipulation. Being oppressed by a religion, murdered when you dare go against it, is NOT an indication that it's good for you. It's an indication of the opposite. It's only been fairly recently that people get the chance to drop religion without instant and completely debilitating ramifications, and guess what? Everywhere you can actually do this, more and more people are dropping religion. The fact that religion loses ground as soon as it's less able to oppress people shows it's not a benefit, it's a disease that we're finally starting to recover from as a race. And the countries where they were able to drop it en mass more than a generation ago are exactly the countries that report higher happiness... it's almost like if your culture doesn't force it on you, and your parents don't either, then it's safe to not be relgious and then you're actually happier...

ever since i left religion, it allowed me to be more open to my own thoughts. i get to ask myself the hard questions, helped me decide for myself, and granted me the opportunity to look and evaluate myself fairly so as to find ways to improve and be a better person. religion does not do this because it distracts you to instead pray or read the bible whenever you have these questions and imo discourages you to explore or find deeper thoughts because they want you to stay dependent on the religion, kinda like a drug of some sorts.

I don't think that I can undo knowledge so to be a believer.

I think that we need proof for religiosity having an effect on your survival.

Two rebuttals that I think were overlooked
    1.
If you supplied people with heroin free-of-charge for life, they might feel happier, but it's not the right thing to do.
    2.
We don't know what all the currently religious people would say about happiness if they became atheists tomorrow. They might well just be happy people who just accept their state of affairs (as Forrest said, correlation is not causation)

I am thoroughly at peace with no dogmatic rules and requirements to deal with. How could I possibly be any happier than living according to my own free determination?

I'm a strong Atheist and I'm super happy because I live my life to the fullest everyday and I love it. This goes both ways like I can say Atheist are happier so it's better to not be religious. The way I see it is, Christians fake their happiness and pretend like everything is well since they are delusional and can't accept reality. I accept reality and even though I know this is the only time I'll exist that when I die, I will have no regrets because I did not waste my time on anything I did not enjoy or love to do. 😀💯
