    WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Hi! Atheist since birth here! My parents told me ancient greek fables when I was little, so when I heard christian stories I assumed they were similar, invented stories to teach morals and stuff.
When I first realized people ACTUALLY believed that christianity was factually true, I was quite shocked, and spent some years trying to wrap my head around that concept. Now I perfectly understand why most people believe in religions. I absolutely don't agree with them, but I understand it.

I say all this because most of the atheist influencers and intellectuals today offer mostly emotional arguments .

If there is a God like that, I would consider him unworthy of worship. Although, there would be some gratitude for existence, but that does not excuse the many varied and cruel atrocities he has committed, ordered, inspired, and allowed over the last few thousand years. That is from my human perspective, however, and humans have only existed for a small fraction of time. Before we impressed our morals and sense onto the world around us, this planet got along fine for billions of years with the wondrous beauty and bestial savagery of nature in the name of balance and survival. It will likely continue to do so long after we cease to exist, unless we end up milking the planet dry by then. The origin and future path of life in the grand scheme of things is awe inspiring, potentially unknowable, tenacious and unpredictable. All we can do is continue searching for answers, and apply our own purpose, or take what meaning we can, in the time we know we have. Some choose to spend that time they know they have worrying about a time when they will be still be conscious somehow while simultaneously being physically deceased and lacking brain activity, which all evidence aside from some differing personal testimonies indicate will never come.

Never once felt the "hand of god" in my life. I wasn't able to articulate my doubts very well at the time, but my favorite go-to line was "If god wants me to believe, he can rip open the sky and tell me to." A friend of mine always said that I wasn't really an atheist, that I just said I was to be cool. I was the furthest thing from cool growing up. How could saying that I'm an atheist suddenly change that? Especially in the environment I grew up in.

I'm an athiest, been one my entire life. I live in the UK and went to a Church of England school. We had to pray before meals, had to listen to stories of the bible, sing hymns, perform nativity plays and such but I never believed any of it was true. If you had asked me at that time what my religion was, I would have said Church of England because thats what I thought I was supposed to say, I prayed etc. but didn't believe. I didn't know what an athiest was to label myself such. When I was 18, I began training to be a nurse. I witnessed death for the first time and because of that I started to want to believe. I desperately wanted to believe because I desperately wanted to know that there was life after death. I went to church and attended prayer groups. It took me maybe three months to realise I was never going to be able to believe. So saying that we naturally gravitate towards theism is completely wrong.

It's everything to them. It's nothing to me. My interest in it at all is how *their* belief affects *my* environment. Hi guys! Atheists can be from anywhere. Even Tulsa OK. So many theists are too quick to make claims. Dave, thanks for calling B.S.

I like when Forrest gets mad. 😅 But admittedly it was HARD listening to this guy and his condescending disbelief that others would think that the despicable god he’s describing is, in fact, despicable.
Power through tho to listen to Forrest tear him up in the calmest, most fluent way possible.

I find it almost too difficult to comprehend that anyone who has ever stepped foot in a school, or spent time in a library, or just access to Google, can still form conclusions more suited to a caveman.

Did the one giving the results of the lie detector test get a lie detector test? I’ve always been an atheist (62 yo) even when I was pretending to be a theist to make my parents happy. I was even involved with church events because, again it made my parents happy. In no way could I make myself to actually believe to make my parents happy. This caller needs to find a different church and get away from that awful human being proselytizing lies to easily brainwashed.

I am a medical student in South Africa. 60% of global HIV cases are in sub-saharan Africa. Firstly, almost 2 million children are living with HIV/AIDS. They singlehandedly disprove BIG’s theory of 97% since around 39 mill people are living with HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, around 60% of new HIV cases in SA yearly are women. I didn’t read up the epidemiology extensively but in my quick search, The USA seems to be the only country worldwide where LGBT/ MSM make up the majority of HIV cases. This is a statistical anomaly though, as the People in USA with HIV account for only 3.125% of all HIV cases. BIG is ignorant and trying to create a narrative that fits his bigoted views.

BIG should realize that majority of people with HIV/AIDS are theists. So what does THAT say about believing in god (I'm assuming he's clueless about stats, based on what he's said on the call)?

I always love it when Forrest crosses or peak his fingers - it usually means he's getting ready to pounce. He's seen the fault in your argument and he's just waiting for you to wind down. There's usually a little smirk and twinkle in his eye, too. 😊

I have been an atheist since I was able to think for myself - I am 71 now. My experience with the way religion can make apparently nice people do and say cruel and disgusting things is as follows. My first wife passed away 18 years ago after a long and painful struggle with Hepatitis C - no cure at that time. Even though I was an atheist my wife was a firm believer. I was with her one day picking her up from church and stopped to talk to her pastor who was a good man and a friend. However another congregant came up to me and told me to my face that the reason my wife had this devastating disease was because I was being punished for being an atheist. He was not a bad man, he was just following this disgusting Christian religious dogma. I should not need to tell you how the conversation continued once I had gotten over the initial shock of his blatantly immoral "revelation".

I enjoy listening to Forrest breakdown reasons for his Atheism-has very clear and concise points. Dave is blunt and to the point but also clear in his stance. Dave having been a preacher brings a little more Biblical knowledge and Forrest with his scientific background make a great duo for the show---enjoy them very much.
