  • Disclaimer: This isn’t meant as a diss to Mormons or the religion, I really am just living my best life and this is where I’m at after being raised in it and experiencing new things as an adult. Wish the same for anyone else who sees this. Sending love to my Latter-Day Saint and religious fam and friends. Appreciate y’all walking on this journey with me even if we’re in different places now ❤️

The Mormons in the comments are coming in droves to say he did the wrong thing. I think that sucks. He’s living authentically and has an authentic, unconditional family love. The “wrong” notion is rooted from the gospel that was being taught to all members. It’s natural for the members of the church to rely on gospel principles. Members are taught that everything to Him is spiritual. Obviously David is happy now, however it’s not fair of him to attack the church this way. David’s agency has gone too far.

I have many LGBT friends, they are amazing and they know their sexuality really conflicts with their religion. Do you know what’s the difference between them and David? They don’t retaliate what does their church say about their sexuality, they move on with their lives making people happy and they still go to church. Where’s David and what he’s doing now? It’s sad what fame can really do to people when it gets to their head. That’s the kind of influence David wanted, “I’m an ex-mormon and because I am a celebrity, I have followers who believe what I have to say”. Internet is indeed fun! I

@@unicorntamer2207As a mother of a gay son, I’m so grateful he doesn’t parade his sexuality around like some badge of honor. (You really don’t see a lot of heterosexuals doing that, but hey, to each their own.) He no longer goes to church but feels no need to blast his decision to leave all over the internet. He knows his identity is more than just being gay. He’s a brother, a son, an uncle, a partner, a talented musician, a great thinker, compassionate, creative, hard worker, intuitive. I could go on. Because I CHOOSE to think of more than him just being gay. He’s my son. And he’s a son of God. I agree with @rexmotif. David’s celebrity status garners more likes and followers and people justifying his actions. I don’t get why people who leave the church feel the need to broadcast and attack it in such vehement ways. And you know the irony behind all of this, I wouldn’t want to be with my son in some perceived hell. I know I’ll be with him in heaven. As a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, our theology of heaven is one of THE most inclusive heavens! I believe God to be a just and merciful God. I believe our eyes will be opened in the next life and we’ll have a greater love and compassion and will see things in a different and more understanding light. I feel sorry that David feels so much pressure to behave this way perhaps. And I feel bad that his mother didn’t quite understand her covenants better. But in the end, it’s our journey, our choices, our agency. He can do what he wants. It’s too bad he’s vilifying a church that has always been very supportive of him. And if there were some misplaced unintentional words from a person or two, I guess they’ll have to answer for that if they were meant with malicious intent. Best wishes to David and his mother in this new journey. I really do hope they both can find some peace and calm in their lives.

And to think, I was in the Navy and went around the world and saw horrible things and saw so many marriages torn apart and people's lives destroyed by their choices. Then when I saw all of that horrible evil, I thought that I'd like to avoid as much pain and sorrow as I could, and I noticed that almost all of people's pains came from their choices. Then I decided to start trying to make better choices, and I started going with friends to their churches, but none of them could answer my questions. Except for when I started reading the Book of Mormon and going to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I've never been happier, and I haven't drank since I got out of the navy. So go ahead and live your life and have your parties like I and the prodigal son did. You may be doing a lot of good things but you have also sinned...as we all have. What you're saying is like being convicted of a crime and telling the judge to throw out your case because you walk your dog and pay your taxes. You still have to pay the penalty for your crime. The penalty for our sins is eternal separation from God. The only place separated from God is hell where demons are and it's a place of torment. God is Holy and Heaven is a Holy Place. We cannot just enter it with our sins being unwashed. Jesus paid the price for our sins, to wash us of our sins. For those who are born gay, we wrestle between something that we know at your core is undeniable and those things that we may have been taught. We then find ourselves parsing between the core tenets of our faith to which we hold true and the man-made dogma which we then may eschew. To me, taking a step back, reanalyzing your beliefs, and refocusing your faith on the the truth you know and commit to deep in your heart is "living your own truth". This is the same judgemental and baseless nonsense type of assumption the Jehovah's Witnesses say about their "Apostates," even before they know a single thing about them or their journey to losing their belief system. "You just wanted to sin." "You were just too proud to accept counsel." "You had a falling out with people in the congregation, and your ego is keeping you from going back." "You're mentally diseased." Not once do you consider that someone found holes in the doctrines or teachings, learned about scandals that proved church officials corrupt or hypocritical, found evidence of scams the Church's founders were pulling, or had conscientious objections to teachings they find harmful or immoral. People under the spell of high control religions just cannot even fathom any of that, lest their own cognitive dissonance kicks on to protect themselves from the thought they've been misled and dedicated much of their time and money to a con.

    3) "There's no need to hate and slander the church." -Youre not a victim of prejudice. You are still convinced your beliefs are true and your religious leaders are honest, wise, and legitimate. He came to a different conclusion, and for someone like him, that may have very well been lifesaving. Some people are innately gay. Its not a choice. Church teachings and excommunication practices have driven too many gay youth to suicide. If you dont relate to his experience, youre not going to lure him back by invalidating his, and this video isnt aimed at you.
He said himself. He believed all his life it was the absolute truth. So did most ex witnesses. None of us make these decisions lightly. We did because we learned we were lied to and many of the things we were taught contradicted both the scriptures the religions are purported to be based on and basic, provable scientific and historical facts. All of the same recycled points the believers make are predicated on the premise that their beliefs are the truth, the church represents God, and God and the church cant be separated. It's the same crap JW's believe wholeheartedly. Both groups cant be right. Other high control, Supremacist religions make the same exact claims. People would not be ex members of these faiths if they accepted those premises. And most of them would not have come to reject those premises without compelling evidence.

Actually, we are not controlled by the church because we still have our free agency to choose what we want - if we choose to do what is right or the other way. We are not really controlled, in fact we are guided in the church through the gospel of Jesus Christ. We love you David! GOD bless you always...💖

Guys, please be kind to David. I don't agree with the choice he made, but I understand that he was hurt by the church and when we're hurt, we tend to rebel and rebel hard, especially when we feel like we've been suppressed our entire lives. My prayer is that he heals and hears the true Gospel and that God will protect him in this season, emotionally and physically. Even if he never returns to Christ, I'll still love him. Don't condemn him. Pray. I'm struggling with my own faith so I get it. It's a journey with highs and lows. By the way, Mormonism is a cult so he made the right decision on that end. 😅

David, God gave you a musical gift to share light. You can continue to do it with your life. Please be respectful with the values you used to believe in. Even if you dont want to follow them now, please be mindful of the effect that your current words and works may have in your followers. If you believe in Christ, even if you dont want to belong to a church, respect His name, by respecting what is righteous. He is light. When you respect what is light, you respect Him. He has given you so much. You know that He is real. Seeking the good and doing what is good is life. Please dont forget the path of true life. Dwelling in dark paths and persuading others to do the same was never happiness, is not happiness and will never be happiness!

We all have our trials. You know, as well as I do brother, that we knew our trials before we came here. This life is meant to be hard, to test and push us to our limits. I have left the church and thought I was extremely happy. Once I met, my now wife, she brought me back and I was so amazed at how much better I felt once I had the Holy Ghost back in my life.
I don’t blame you at all. We all have our agency to choose our paths. Sometimes we hit that breaking point, and that’s ok. I hope for the best for you, man. I know you know the church is true, I think you want to experience the world of man for a bit.
We are meant to sin, I have done plenty of, not so great, things back in the day while inactive. But I’m sincerely grateful for the Savior and His Atonement.
Don’t let anyone tell you how to dictate your life. It’s up to you to choose how you want to live. Gods plan is perfect, and everything that happens is meant to happen.
I hope for the best for you, brother. :)

It can DEFINITELY be hard to grow and find peace within the tension of gospel life. In my experience, I feel like this comes down to complimentary contraries, and the fact that both things are often true. What I mean by this is that there is definitely a tendency in the culture in the church to harold one one truth which they prize and then to hold it above other people's heads. We never have any right to do that, and that mindset is definitely a roadblock to being able to support each other on our own journeys through that tension, and find greater unity and deeper faith along the way. I just want to honor that those things are hard, and that light is still real. For me, sometimes the darkness does make it easier for me to discern parts of the light that my spirit deeply remembers and values and which aren't really in the forefront of relationships I personally have in the church. It's okay to not be okay with things that are not okay is what I'm basically trying to say. It's also okay to make your own decisions and know that you still deserve all the love and support you would having in any other circumstance. You got this either way David! I KNOW!!! that the plan was for us to come here and get bodies, and that with that would come a great variety of choices. I'm glad that you're here on earth with me. I hope that you're happy. I'm glad that you feel comfortable to explore the world without fear. Every child of God deserves that right. Your melody is music to my ears no matter what your choices are, because you're my brother, and I love you. -Heather
