My grandmother has been Mormon since the day she was born, participates in every event, and even plans the funerals in her ward and she recently complained that people were being stupid by trying to say she wasn't Mormon. She is adamant that they are Mormon no matter what people or the church says. Its so funny to me that other Mormons are trying to extinguish the name when she, a dedicated Mormon for 80 years, is rejecting any other title. Also I don't think there can be a slur when they are so harmful and steal so much from their own people in order to stay powerful. Slurs are harmful and have negative historical significance, Mormons are just Mormons

The connotation of Saint in the church is very different from general Christianity, like Saint Peter or James. It’s just another way of saying Christian. If you want to be really cool, call yourself an Elder, that is a much cooler name.

The term "Mormon" is also nostalgic for me, and comes from habit. I was an all-in, ultra scrupulous Mormon child for over 20 years. Was so indoctrinated that it tooj me several years of attending the temple almost weekly to start seeing red flags. "Mormon" was my identity, along with LDS. (Though Mormon tended to be the label I used more than LDS.) When I refer to LDS people, including my family, as Mormon, it's never meant to be an insult. Its how all of us were raised. I explained that to my brother recently and I think he understood where I was coming from. Thankfully my family doesnt make a big deal of it. But yeah, come on Russell. It feels like such an arbitrary thing, like a power play. Not to mention all of the members' money (including mine) that is now wasted on the "I'm a Mormon" campaign. I personally think it's a shame.

I have never met a single mormon who has an issue with being called a mormon (and I have lived in Utah for 5/6 years now).
What’s the difference between dead names and the church asking people to call it something else? All we ask for is your respect, as human beings. We respect your opinions, your identity. You don’t have to believe what we do. Just call people what they want to be called it’s not the end of the world.
And for any who would say that the church doesn’t respect people, I say: I can’t speak for the actions of the church. I can speak for my own, and I DO respect people’s identities and emotions. So if I want to be called a follower of Christ, because that’s what I am, it doesn’t quite matter if you think I’m not. It’s what I am. Please respect it :)

Slander? The child brides are acknowledged even by the church and blood oaths were part of the temple ceremony until the 90s. Brigham Young also used to teach blood atonement as a key doctrine.

I deal with a lot of Latter-Day Saints professionally… so I somehow manage to go to interesting lengths to avoid using the terms altogether. 😂
My family and I recently went to the LA temple with some friends of ours because one of their sons was getting endowed for his mission. Because I'm happily unendowed and have grown quite disgruntled with the temple recently, I stayed in the visitors' center to help watch the little kids, and I kid you not when I say there was still plenty of "Mormon" branding from 2015. If it's such a Satanic slur, you'd think they'd do a better job of wiping all traces of it, but apparently not 😂
lol I have a friend that is a member of the church of the restored gospel (as he wants me to put it) I study religion and theology in general (I am a catholic convert) we were talking about our churches differences and I called him Mormon and he was offended. He then one day after we hung out at our fencing class called his mom over and had her talk to me about why it’s wrong. He then offered for the missionaries to give me lessons. This went on for a while. Oh and if you’ve read this far, I am a fourteen year old which makes this a little bit more weird

The irony of C of C's stance is that the easiest way to distinguish between the two would have been to call themselves Missouri Mormons, as in LDS went to Utah, RLDS stayed put in Missouri. That would have led to the obvious other differences (LDS: polygamists at one time, weird temple rites. C of C: never polygamist, weird temple architecture. Etc.)
Sometimes denying the obvious nomenclature just bites you in the foot.
