Although I see Hell differently than what most people of faith may see it as... even now transitioning out of faith, it’s not necessarily a concept I believe... because even if God existed, I think God would be a lot more loving and accepting of differences than we give credit, but at the time I understood the sentiment… and it meant the world to me. I love you mom.

Mother's love is beyond every religion or ideology, mother's love is pure, kind and true. As a christian gay man struggling with faith my mother always stood by me, listened to me and I guess in time learned that faith may be strong, but love is stronger. I'm blessed to have a mother who loves me and my dear David, you're mother seems to be as loving as mine is. Greetings from Finland, can't wait for the song!

Your mom is a very sweet person, I knew she’d come around. I had the pleasure of meeting her at church a couple times when I was like 15. My mom took a very similar path of leaving the church about a year ago, I came out in 2018 and she could no longer support their hateful rhetoric.

This is what true unconditional love is. Many speak of unconditional love as they try to “Save” you but just replace the word “save” with “change”. To need someone to change for you to love them is not unconditional love it’s conditional love.

My mother did the same when I came out we are of Catholic faith. She passed in 2003 I came out in 1997 she still here with me in the present I feel her presence a mother's love is endless even if they passed away. Trying to type while crying is rough. Although my mom passed away before I could tell her about me, I know inside she knew I was gay. Hispanic families are awesome, David. My mom would have been proud of me, just as your mom is proud. My cousin said she knew an that I should come back home, they would protect me and fight anyone who hurt me. Dear friend, This struggle is real for many people. We have to be careful not to shut the door of Heaven. The brother of the prodigal son did not want him to come home, because he thought he didn't earn it. If we truly love one another without bringing lust into it, that is Christianity. Im not promoting any sin. No one but JESUS can understand David's journey unless we are on the same journey. He left his church because many religions are an army that shoot the wounded. There are thousands in the churches who are struggling with sexuality for one reason or another, Davids just happens to be public. If GOD needs to change anything in any of our hearts, HE has the power to do that. Peace out.

This is touching....I wish I had a family that was supportive. I came out to my grandparents first....my grandpa printed off the parts of the bible that condemned gays and told me about conversion therapy. 20 years later, he tells me he's still praying for me that I'll get on the right side of things....
The thing that gets me the most is how the bible also says not to judge anyone, that it's only his job...but church people judge others the most.
People think that being gay, is a choice and compare it to child rapists or murderers. It's always good to see people's responses when you ask them when they chose to be straight.

Really a poignant line, and one that's so true for LGBTQ+ people in the church.
Like, you can absolutely get by. But it really is nothing more than survival. You can't thrive if you can't be yourself. And when being yourself is contrary to being a true believer, you're stuck in this perpetual state of cognitive dissonance where things just feel uncertain and unsteady.
I'm really happy both you and your family have escaped that sort of place. And I'm hopeful your story will inspire others to choose love first, too. 💜

I felt the spirit so strong! That’s one thing I’ve learnt since recently leaving the church, I feel “the spirit” exactly the same! Because it bloody well isn’t anything more than our own good feelings. I agree with your mother and I have similar reasons for stepping away from the church in support of my own lgbtq children. But then I started diving into the history. OMG.

I am sobbing, wow, so beautiful. Ignore the comments from people who think they know everything, and think they can speak on behalf of God, they are incredibly disrespectful. Love is love. I'm no longer religious since I am also gay, and a lot of religious people treat us very poorly for just existing. We're God's children too, what makes you so special? You think you're exempt from wrong just because you like the opposite sex? That doesn't matter, treating everyone with kindness, respect, and most of all, love, matters. I don't believe in the concept of sin anymore, but if I still did, loving another soul is not a sin-- however, spreading hate, as well as being filled with anger and vitriol towards others for living their authentic life, is definitely a sin though.
