- In this glitch packed episode we check out the buggier side of Spongebob Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, the remake of a beloved classic. Frankly, the game became more and more broken during the making of this, so may have to revisit it, and of course, the original!

No, it isn’t. One glitch causes the taxi skip to occur. The original has a lot more broken content as opposed to just an end game skip

The developers specifically said in an interview that they would not be changing the main story with cut content though. Makes sense since shoehorning those kinds of things into the game would make it convoluted, so the compromise was including them in multiplayer (which was unfortunately rushed and tacked on but that's a different story)

Regarding the sock in the theater:
In the original game, there was a sock present inside of the theater in the hubworld, but it was marked as inactive and therefore did not show up in game. The data was there though.
Purple Lamp used the original level files as a base for the levels in Rehydrated*, so the sock data carried over, but the inactive flag didn't. Evidently, it was overlooked by the level designers.
*Fun fact: they even went so far as to use a community-made level editor called "Industrial Park". In later versions of the Rehydrated, the developer of that software is even thanked in the credits.

I have done a bit of animation. I took a class on it in college. I know that when ever you are doing a squash and stretch animation, any value change in the scale of the character must equal out to zero. So if you subtract from the character's scale you must add back that scale exactly. Otherwise you get something like this where the character either grows or shrinks a little each time it goes through the animation cycle. The devs must have incorrectly balanced out the animation so that the change in scale ends with a positive value rather then zero

in case anyone is wondering about the weird sock in the theater/ any weird placed models or whatever, the reason it's there is because rehydrated was made off of the original game. The original game was ported over into unity using a community made tool called industrial park. Some things were left in some weren't. all of the models were brought in from the original to make it an almost 1:1 scale. If you go out of bounds in sandy's tree dome you can see that the map is actually just the old one imported. If you take the camera under Mrs. puff in rock bottom you can see a model for a shiny object. To someone new to the game they'd find this strange but if you speed run the original you'd remember that underneath Mrs. puff in rock bottom there is a shiny object with a trigger that gives you all the paintings needed for that spatula immediately. If you guys have any other questions about the game i'll try to respond the best i can.
13:16 The objects that are solid despite being out of bounds are instances of objects that are also found in the 'in bounds' parts of the game. Instancing simple objects like those rocks is pretty common. I think the only reason the tree dome objects are instanced is because they can be seen from multiple angles, so it was easier to instance them than create new objects with the same models.
And ground meshes typically are one big mesh, all of which has collision enabled. It's easier than trying to have multiple giant meshes perfectly lined up or having only parts of the mesh be solid.
"I'm not really sure how the devs didnt catch this" maybe because its a licensed IP game, thus is subject to "You WILL release it at this time!" quotas and also banking on the hardcore spongebob fans to buy it anyway so they dont need to super polish it?
Nick sucks now because they ruined Spongebob with their cheapskate ways. But then you look at Cartoon Network. They went from Regular Show, Adventure Time and Pokémon to ALL HAIL TEEN TITANS GO!
@Layne Krusz thats how it should be. Speedrunners find the glitches that are actually difficult to pull off without luck and practice.

Damn as always you put in insane amounts of effort to show of the game. I dig the "live stream" segments as a little mix into the normal episode and it is alwayse great to see you giving speedruners and the speedrun of the game some love

I want to assume that the randomness of out of bounds collision is because the devs just used assets from other levels, goo lagoon and jellyfish fields as an example for the hub world, because I’d imagine they made the hub world later in development

I personally noticed that when in the Sea Needle as Sandy if you used the torn floor as a platform hugging the wall and gliding you can speed up the bubble ball entrance opening earlier than intended even though it does nothing for you.
It’s simple, spongebob has it set to mini, but Patrick has it set to wumbo. Simple

I found some weird glitch involving the slide after the King Jellyfish Boss Fight. If you slide on some certain edges, the game gets kinda buggy, plus near the tail end of the slide. If you jump to certain areas, Hans can also glitch out too. I've recorded a few situations of this glitch playing out if you wanna see.
In jellyfish fields I remember getting hit into a river and out of bounds. I couldn’t move anywhere, but I got a good view of inside Patrick’s head
Fun Fact: The out of bonds talking thing works with bounce pads with bubble bowling at the same time.

I have to be honest, this episode really dragged. The 'live' section for getting out of bounds took up sooo much time and really didn't jive with the energy of the rest of the episode.

those platforms that are solid out of bounds, my theory is that they are copied and pasted and they have collision by default, they just never bothered to remove the collision
usually objects that are solid out of bounds were added from some sort of template
I had the exact same theory. Those cylindrical-ish rocks show up often enough that it was probably easier to just place a bunch of objects than individually model them.

Your videos definitely inspired me to try rubbing up against every wall and trying any clip or almost-jump possible in this game and it honestly became one of my favourite parts of the whole experience, just trying to break it or get to places I wasn't really intended to be just yet. Getting that crazy jump just right feels so good. Also found that OOB glitch where you constantly jump to gain height (not like it was hard to find). Used it right before you go to the sandcastle in Goo Lagoon to get on top of that sand shelf. The top of it has weird invisible wall collision (for some reason), and a place you can slide into and get stuck seemingly in nothing. Was fun completing the sandcastle from the Kelp Caves end LOL.

I haven’t completed this yet, but the only thing I don’t like so far is that Mr. Krabs is *not* Mr. Krabs. At all.

Gotta say, I really enjoyed the bit with /you/ in it (from a stream I assume) showing the out of bounds stuff. This is just my opinion, but I feel like it would be way more fun, and personal in a way, to see you perform these glitches in person, with a controller or etc on camera (maybe a second camera shoving the button presses). This would OFC be way more time consuming, especially with hard glitches, but just a fun idea. Maybe for smaller glitches it would be fun. Trying to reach out to more people.
Anyway, this was an enjoyable episode. The Patrick n Spongebob glitch was insane. Hope you're doing well in these times man.

As Patrick, if you body slam directly into a teleport box, you will slide around whenever you get out of the box
a few days after launch i found the oob glitch but couldnt document. well done for finding this glitch :)
If I had to guess why the out-of-bounds rocks have collision, it's because they're just copy+pasted from the other in-bounds rocks in the area and just scaled differently, and they just didn't bother making them intangible.

In my play through, I once fell through the hub world and fell infinitely through the world when using the Sponge-ball power-up to get to the second area (which has the police station). There was also this visual glitch whenever I would look at the goo in Goo Lagoon where there were these artifacts that only showed up in the top-left corner of the screen and only when I rotated the camera so that the goo/water took most of that side of the screen. Both disappeared after the recent patch, but I thought they were interesting and I haven’t met anyone that had the break in those specific ways in their playthroughs.

This glitch also works on trampolines or anything that makes you jump- if you touch the trampoline, press O or B depending on the console, then you’ll begin sliding as if you were preparing a bubble bowl
