Just started my play through. I was so shocked at how good it looked that it made me want to see the original again. I played through the original at 7 years old. A pivotal point for me in gaming. I’m 25 now and it’s definitely doing its job of flooding me with nostalgia.
Same here, even the age :D As I saw it in the PlayStation store I just had to get it. And I was amazed too. Childhood memories brought back in an even better art of style!
Honestly they did a very good job and this game serves its purpose of being mindless fun and funny writing honestly 10/10 would recommend this to everyone here
Honestly so many people say stuff like “oh on switch the controls are so dumb, a is jump and y is attack” I don’t really see why that’s a problem. I think it’s stupid how they hate the game just because of the controls. You don’t need to use attack so like stall your jump or so farther or anything, so I don’t see the logic in that. I think there is the just right amount of difficulty for an E rated game, it’s easy enough for younger kids and difficult enough for experienced gamers. I give it 9.5/ 10, just because I found only a few things a bit confusing but other than that I love it
Comparing it to the original, I'd give it like a 7/10, mainly because the Graphics are beautiful yet the gameplay is more lackluster than in the original. On its own I'd give it 8/10, maybe a 9 at most because it's certainly not perfect, just like the original wasn't perfect.
I hated and loved it. I liked it cause it was fun but I hated it cause of having to repeat races to get the other tokens. Just made the game so boring and tedious
They changed a LOT of details in the game that only veterans would pick up on. I got the game last night and a lot of stuff bothers me. The “climbing” walls don’t have Spongebob drawings anymore just arrows, the tartar bot has highlighted indicators to tell where the shots will land and the puddles don’t stay as long as in the original, you don’t take DAMAGE in the water anymore, Patrick’s belly attack has a “cool down” period and he can’t spin as quickly anymore, the NPC noises are gone, SpongeBob’s net attack isn’t as fast, one of the balance rocks in Jellyfish Fields doesn’t allow you to jump off of it as easily to get to the next area, and Patrick’s rock doesn’t have the record player anymore, the original shiny things noise is gone, and there are a million loading screens that take forever. The game is still a great game, but I can’t help myself but keep comparing it to the original.
I like spongebob's design in the OG more, but I like patrick more in the remake. The environments in the new one look good, but they are a bit too color saturated

@PosterBoyStealz _ Just because you don't agree doesn't make it a bad complaint. Personally I HEAVILY prefer the original spongebob model and I'm not even nostalgic for it.
@PosterBoyStealz _ that's not just an opinion. SpongeBob has changed in design and character heavily to become more childlike. In the original seasons he was portrait as a young adult with a childlike mind.
@PosterBoyStealz _ too yellow is just a way of saying too bright and I don't like this shade of yellow. It's more of a personal complaint, but it isn't super silly. Different shades are a thing.
I don't know why but I kinda like the older colour tone they used. Everything looks better, yes. However like Nick said, they also look too blown out with the contrast and saturation of colours. Spongebob literally looks like the tip of a highlighter.

I didn't play the original, but I think I prefer the newer sound design. For example, spongebag's squeaky shoes drive me a bit mad in original. I like that in the new one it's less noticeable
@@damandelorean Yeah, but that doesn't the fact that unless the user increases the volume the default is much quieter that the original. Besides, increasing the volume only makes it possible to hear a quiet sound from farther away while going closer as just equal to the original.
I was thinking the same thing, would have been a nice nod if you can interact with the fire and SpongeBob asks the question which leads to the fire going out.
Just sit down and take a moment, realize how crazy and wack the past couple years have been, and how much things have change how they use to be so much better and how the simplicity of a show like spongebob could take your mind off of everything after a long day of learning simple math
I wish they made the characters act and look more similar to the old show, i liked the more "normal" spongebob from the earlier episodes. The newer spongebob is too bright and annoying. just a pit peeve though
@@Mega-Brick it looks nice, but the only thing i like better about the old one is that spongebob looks more like the classic. The game still looks amazing nonetheless.
@@blue-hl8gy Is the only reason people want the models to match the original is cus the hole "Modern SpongeBob Bad, Old Good?" cus literally what's the big deal with the newer model on the the fact they match the newer design of the show?
One thing I missed from the original was the extensive backgrounds in the levels. For example when you are inside Sandy's tree dome you can clearly see the outside world through the glass but in the remaster it's just blue fog now. I also miss the seamless teleport with the boxes where you jump in and warp to the other one. In the remaster you go through a brief loading screen instead. None of these things break the game at all. Just little details from the original that I noticed were gone.
this game flew over my radar when it came out, no idea what I was playing instead at the time but I bought the remaster and its worth every penny of the £20
Despite the fact that the remaster looks good, I like the original more. The original game was much closer to the art style of the show. Rehydrated imo looks oversaturated and too detailed. At 12:00 you can see how OG with these cartoony simple textures almost looks like a frame from the show, while the remaster looks like a new 3D movie. Most likely it was intentional, but anyway.
There were some hilarious glitches I found in the remake such as Patrick and Sandy being able to roam around SpongeBob's house and some items falling through the ground or flying up in the air.
There's so many things missing. Lines that spongebob says. IE when he gets hit by the safe hes supposed to yell ouch. And patrick is supposed to have a record player in his house you can hit. And you're supposed to be able to hit spongebobs TV to see concept art of the various levels. And when you hit the painting in squidwards house hes supposed to yell "hey!". This seems like a really rushed release.
From what I've heard, the crew actually got the new Spongebob model from Nick themselves for use in this game, rather than making it from scratch themselves, which explains why it doesn't resemble the older model as much. I think it looks really good personally, I love how much expression they were able to put into it, although I wonder what a more accurate model to the original game would look like.
One of my favorite changes overall is the the way they changed the buttons. The old buttons used to only have a handprint, now the new ones have a handprint if you're meant to use your basic attack to push it, a bullseye button for Patrick's throw fruit, a bowling pin for SpongeBob's bubble bowling ability, and cross hairs for SpongeBob's cruise bubble ability. If that existed in the original game, 9 year old me would've gotten a lot more done 😂
simpsons hit and run, i afraid its not one of those "aged well games", they gotta add more content to compete with other openworld games that involves free roam driving and lots of activity around the game world unlike this one, a 3d platformer game which the formula never really changed, and able to compete with other 3d platformer game nowadays take a look at crash team racing nitro fueled while it has really good driving mechanics, it still wouldnt have compete with mario kart 8 if the dev didnt add more content such as extra tracks, tons of customization, and more (which fortunately, they did)
I remember playing the original game when I was 8 or 9 and it was so much fun! It's been so long I thought I imagined playing the game years later, but when I saw they were remastering it i got so excited and wanted to buy it the day of its release.
Out of all the graphical improvements -- SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick's houses are my favorite. Especially in wide shot together, feels cozy for some reason
CherrySteak I would but I don’t have my PS2 anymore. I’m not criticizing the game because it DOESN’T have that option, I’m just saying it would be cool IF it did have the option. It’s the same situation with the Halo Master Chief Collection, it’d be a cool little bonus.
@CherrySteak Who has a PS2 or Xbox? because it sure as hell ain't on anything else, and common sense does not point to just playing the original game, for companies that is
CherrySteak I haven’t played the remaster so I can’t say which one is better without an honest and accurate opinion, but I’m still gonna get it for nostalgia purposes and just because it’s nice to see an old memory in a present day format
Now this is what I call a remake. You can clearly see the team behind this was really passionate about the game and the show. It really reimagined the game while retaining many of the aspects of the original. I just got the remake and I kept smiling during my first playthrough, can't wait to beat this game as I didn't have the chance to beat it back then.
To me, this remake is nothing short of amazing. I've been playing this game almost since it came out, and I look at this remake and it feels like the game is brand new. I prefer the newer design, as I feel it fits Spongebob more as a character. The sound design is better to me as well, because the original sounds are loud and it can be a bit grating during a really long playthrough. I'm hella gonna get this if I ever have the money for it.
@@spike5499 I do now, but I'm still trying to decide between this, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and the new Klonoa that's set to come out soon. The newest game that I both own and have played before (i.e. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer) came out in like 2015, so there are a lot of much newer games that I still have yet to try.
In all fairness to the Mr. Krabs voice-actor, I heard it's a union thing. That they wouldn't be allowed to redo one character's lines unless they redid _all_ of them - a pricey thing to do for only a $30 game, especially when certain VAs (such as Barnacle Boy's) are now sadly, unavailable.
A couple of things that I actually said in the forum for bug fixes and features add ons, the one that SHiFT sent out to people on his Twitter that I would like to see in my opinion 2 things improved. 1. Full Destruction animations: while there are a lot of objects that when smashed they break apart into pieces, like the robots, things like, the Duplicatotrons, the floor in the lighthouse arena in Downtown, and especially the Tikis do not have any sort of or very minimal animation that signifies that they have been smashed or destroyed. I mean the original had this feature in the game why can’t a chaos physics engine implement this feature in Rehydrated. 2. Full Duplicatotron animations: as I compare the two I notice that the machine lacks two things. The first is the lights right above the word do not function as they do in the original, they are just off. And second there is a lack of smoke puffing out the funnel of the machine when running and when spitting out robots, but the biggest missing thing of all is a lack of animation when the robots actually spawn in. If you take a look at the sound comparison part and go to the robot section 10:37. In the original there was a visual cue/effect that told the player that the robot is spawning in and will attack you right afterwards. In Rehydrated, there is no visual cue/effect. The capsule or tin can as it looks like now just land on the ground and the robot just pops in. These are obviously not of major importance, but they are important enough to further enhance the game and give it that quality to life improvement that it needs along with other imporvments that other people suggest, so it can truly hold a candle to its predecessor. My overall thoughts is that this is a masterpiece of a game, and truly has great potential to become something great and long lasting once they patch up all the kinks and tweak and polish the the bugs, glitches, and missing features. Let it be said however that this game to me is still worth the money to relive my childhood and I will be purchasing the game eventually. Hope everyone that already has the game is having a blast reliving your childhoods or trying it for the first time.
I remember playing it all night when I was younger I just got it that day... I waited till everyone went to sleep so I could play it on the big bulky floor flat screen TV and passed out.
The remaster is great, but there is some animation and sound designs I nitpick at alot when im playing it. I have it on ps4, and it seems there's alot of unnecessary loading times that the original never had. And the sounds for collecting shiny objects just seems...off. And the bungee jumping feels not right at all. Other than that, this game is an amazing looking remaster of one of my childhood games
@@AlmightyPolarBear especially the teleporting boxes. The animation isn't even there anymore and when you jump in them, the game loads infront of you which looks very bad
@@britishpie7665 For sure there's some good episodes, but every single one before the movie was brilliant. And the movie itself was a great sendoff. Then Nickelodeon decided to milk the show until it was generic and unfunny. It was my favourite childhood show and to see it fall from grace was pretty disappointing. As an adult it's even easier to tell the change in quality.
Imagine if they made a remake of the SpongeBob movie game from 2004 with the same graphics as Battle for bikini bottom rehydrated just like THQ made the same graphics in the original battle for bikini bottom appear in the SpongeBob movie game
This is as beautiful and faithful as you could ever wish a remake to be. When I was a kid I loved playing battle for bikini bottom on my xbox. It was one of my favourite games! @@dtwins613 "Better" is more of a subjective term. Sure it's pretty, and looks smooth, but that doesn't discredit the charms of the original. Do all retro games look, "bad" just because it's an outdated style? It all comes down to personal taste.
Vay Kek okay but tell me what makes it look better in your pov because I don’t see how you can think the original looks better isn’t it the same game but smoother

The original BfBB has the better sound quality, the effects sound like they came from the actual show, the remaster's quality has not really improved, rathered just upgrade the crispness a very slight way and removed the cartoony sounds for more Realistic™ sounds, which for me ruined it.
Agreed, the sounds they implemented when you attack the robots sounds very quiet and unsatisfying, while the original is hilarious and that great punch sound effects when you attack the enemies.
I hope they add a lot of the little easter egg type stuff back into the game as well. So many little things are missing that made the game more enjoyable for me as a kid. Like objects you could interact with by hitting them causing funny sounds, and/or something to happen that wouldn't necessarily be part of the story.
I had the original, and now my son is playing rehydrated. It looks and sounds better, that’s for sure. I wish the graphics were updated a bit more in a cartoony style like the recent Mario games (or even the Lego games) but I’m sure they wanted to be cost efficient. It would be great to see the movie game rehydrated...or better yet, a new game with the kind of quality BFBB has.
There’s some little things I’m bit picky about with the remake having complete the game now, is some of the little sound changes here and there I much more preferred all of the original games sound effects, and I also found a glitch with the bubble bowl where the sound just cuts out and with it the bubble it makes looks a bit off, but that’s only because I played the original so much

Damn, I’m only two years older than this game.
Bruh, I'm actually 2 years younger than this
Just sit down and take a moment, realize how crazy and wack the past couple years have been, and how much things have change how they use to be so much better and how the simplicity of a show like spongebob could take your mind off of everything after a long day of learning simple math
Is that your mind talking or you?
It’s because you were a kid back then. You didn’t had to worry about what was going on in the world as a child
Lightning6475 yes? That’s his point
@@Lightning-gg5iu Eh, some did. I was the only family-member willing to listen to my mom talk about her trauma, so...
I wish they made the characters act and look more similar to the old show, i liked the more "normal" spongebob from the earlier episodes. The newer spongebob is too bright and annoying. just a pit peeve though
They literally can't. It was a mandate by Nickelodeon itself.
I'm just glad they didn't touch the writing. I'm fine with some fresh animations, it's the writing that really sells the characters.
Why does everything have to be like the old season
One thing I missed from the original was the extensive backgrounds in the levels. For example when you are inside Sandy's tree dome you can clearly see the outside world through the glass but in the remaster it's just blue fog now. I also miss the seamless teleport with the boxes where you jump in and warp to the other one. In the remaster you go through a brief loading screen instead. None of these things break the game at all. Just little details from the original that I noticed were gone.
I love how the game got remastered, but I'm not a fan of the over saturation of color, or SpongeBob's new look.
His design reminds me of the upcoming sponge on the run movie, or at least giving me a vibe
Literally the only problem I have with it is how bright yellow he is compared to the original
this game flew over my radar when it came out, no idea what I was playing instead at the time but I bought the remaster and its worth every penny of the £20
*under your radar?

@@landonshort1738 Yes and I was replying to a comment about it being $9 on PC

Despite the fact that the remaster looks good, I like the original more. The original game was much closer to the art style of the show. Rehydrated imo looks oversaturated and too detailed. At 12:00 you can see how OG with these cartoony simple textures almost looks like a frame from the show, while the remaster looks like a new 3D movie. Most likely it was intentional, but anyway.
Yeah, the original looks calm like the first seasons while the remake is Spongebob on drugs like the modern episodes.

"The number of bubbles has increased" As everyone expected from this remake
I still playing this on PS2, just for the Nostalgia. Best game for Childs and Older Persons. My favourite Game.
@Chiriac Puiu I believe the models are supposed to be based off the models they used in the 2nd movie
You have to admit though Rehydrated looks beautiful graphics wise
@@gator9339 Not really, it looks super saturated. Particle effects look great but characters and objects look way too bright
One thing I miss that I don't see many people talke about is the jumping in and out of box animations
Now they just got a boring lil black screen
@@notnaywashwe4615 wtf seriously?
From what I've heard, the crew actually got the new Spongebob model from Nick themselves for use in this game, rather than making it from scratch themselves, which explains why it doesn't resemble the older model as much. I think it looks really good personally, I love how much expression they were able to put into it, although I wonder what a more accurate model to the original game would look like.
I really miss the little fart/toot sound effects when you destroy a robot.
I don't. It got annoying after a while.
Fighting those cowboy robots were pretty weird...
In-case the developers are reading this, you can disable SteamVR support from the editor by going to Edit->Plugins->Virtual Reality->SteamVR.
I'm still wishing in the future that more license games might get some remakes specially Simpsons Hit and Run.
OMG yesss!! if & WHEN they do im def getting it
Totally forgot about that! It honestly deserves a remake and I'm too afraid to play the ps2 one and ruin how I remind it being ;D
simpsons hit and run, i afraid its not one of those "aged well games", they gotta add more content to compete with other openworld games that involves free roam driving and lots of activity around the game world
unlike this one, a 3d platformer game which the formula never really changed, and able to compete with other 3d platformer game nowadays
take a look at crash team racing nitro fueled while it has really good driving mechanics, it still wouldnt have compete with mario kart 8 if the dev didnt add more content such as extra tracks, tons of customization, and more (which fortunately, they did)
It’d probably be better if they released a sequel because it was basically just a copy of GTA
@@gnarly.bulblax i think for a high chance of getting a sequel is making a remake just look at Crash.

I just beat this game last night and got the platinum. It was a very fun experience
Honestly I'd only buy this for the nostalgia. But it is nice to see the improvements from the original
4:17 that "Friends" one is actually taken from an episode aswell (Jellyfishing to be exact). And it was also in spongebob's living room
Yeah I recognized it but wasn't positive. The new image just doesnt look like a real photograph
I want a "Classic" Setting in Rehydrated that changes all the textures and models to the ones of the original
That would be amazing, the nostalgia would hit me like a train. I’m not sure if they’re going to implement that or not though. Fingers crossed mate
Like Halo anniversary?
2003 to 2022 shows how much technology and software has improved.

It feels weird that rehydrated is 3-4 years old now, I remember when it was announced so easily
The original game still looks alright considering it’s age but my god, the remake shows just how far game graphics have come. It looks incredible.
Fax
Did you ever have the money for it
@@spike5499 I do now, but I'm still trying to decide between this, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and the new Klonoa that's set to come out soon. The newest game that I both own and have played before (i.e. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer) came out in like 2015, so there are a lot of much newer games that I still have yet to try.
5:53 No, I love when games have out of bounds glitches, it makes it so much fun for me, I love exploring them.
12:10 Throw it back
In all fairness to the Mr. Krabs voice-actor, I heard it's a union thing. That they wouldn't be allowed to redo one character's lines unless they redid _all_ of them - a pricey thing to do for only a $30 game, especially when certain VAs (such as Barnacle Boy's) are now sadly, unavailable.
All I need now is a Blockbuster box cover and my nostalgia will be complete!
"Hey, if we're underwater, how can there be a--"
"I'm scared Spongebob!"
One of the most nostalgic remasters I have played. So happy I got to play again
It is a remake, and I agree on the loading times. Also the constant texture popping on PS4.
@@AlmightyPolarBear especially the teleporting boxes. The animation isn't even there anymore and when you jump in them, the game loads infront of you which looks very bad
Nick: *Calls Spongebob's tie stupid*

I like the older one it’s the classic sponge bob the show went downhill after the first movie
My opinion after the christmas special from 2013
@@3hoursago6secondsago3 I actually kind of agree to this, there definitely some good episodes after the movie
Unpopular opinion: The original looks better than the remastered version. Ps2 FTW
Pretty sure that's a pretty common opinion
How? The graphics are better
It was remade, not remastered.
I use to play the original on the PS2 and literally screamed when I first had the rehydrated version going on my switch. So much nostalgia.
Wish they voiceover Mr. Krabs with the original voice actor.
I've never seen the cartoon as I was already too old when it first came out, and I only tried the original GC version for 10 min one month ago, so I'm not judging with nostalgia. And I'm really liking this game, it's extremely relaxing. Challenging but not stressful, lots of checkpoints in the right spots, funny, good music. I wish there were more games like it
Damn !!! Was an amazing show , glad you liked it I will be checking the game out
I would say it’s “oversaturated”- it looks like someone turned up saturation to 90% on a normal game
That is literally oversaturated

Looks so amazing and colorfull, I love it 👌🏻
The original BfBB has the better sound quality, the effects sound like they came from the actual show, the remaster's quality has not really improved, rathered just upgrade the crispness a very slight way and removed the cartoony sounds for more Realistic™ sounds, which for me ruined it.

I feel like the original still holds up pretty well, I know it's on an emulator here but for a 17 Yr old game its still pretty passable
I missed this game so much. It would be cool if there was a toggle to change to the original graphics every once in a while too.
