- Trying to decide between the Scrambler 400X and the Speed 400, three things to consider.
First, the Scrambler 400X is based on the Speed 400’s platform and it shares the same engine and much of the chassis with the street naked. Where it largely differs is in the case of the gearing, suspension travel, bigger front brake, larger wheel size and tyres.
Second, the Scrambler 400X will appeal to those who want the versatility of riding on road and venturing down a mud trail without a spot of doubt. It will also be liked by those who want road presence in their bike which the Speed 400 lacks
Third, the Speed 400 is for those who want a quick, compact, high quality bike to dart around in the city. That’s not to say that Speed isn’t capable of highway trips but its engine feels slightly more strained at similar speeds. If you are going to spend a good time out on the highway, besides riding in the city, the Scrambler 400X is a better choice.

Did a test ride of both, scram is awesomely smooth
Did comprehensive test rides of both-Put my money on the Speed400 because of it feeling more connected and controlled at speed on the highway -the agility of the Speed400 is reminiscent of my erstwhile Gen1Duke390

So I am not the only one who liked scram more than speed. And one more thing, because of extra padding on foot pegs. You will feel less vibrations on scram on highway speeds
And I got the speed 400 as its more nimble and agile.. Feels like having a smaller version of inty. So ignored the scrambler where the stance was a bit more upright.
If your short = speed
Tall = scram
You height only stops you from riding tall bikes if you don't want to learn the skill needed to handle tall bikes 😊

I bought the scram because my knee started to pain on speed test ride.
I think speed has better control and scram has better posture and seat that provides comfort

I’ve the 400X, but having pain on my back near the waist. May be coz of the suspension. Don’t know what to do ?!
Poor braking and average tyres are deal breakers for scrambler 400x.. And not to mention high engine revvs due to the shorter front sprocket, thus vibes come early.. Not worth the 40000 extra OnRoad price..
Are they worth buying for the mileage they provide in cities?

I went to testride both bikes. I loved the 400x over speed 400 except for the brakes.

Both these bikes are heavy its better to get one with a comfortable seat height for easy urban use

Same bike and bmw gives you less features than the Apache while being more expensive. Also each service will be eye wateringly expensive for the bmw.
People looking for the bmw badge buys it. Sensible people don't..
a prominent confused and dissatisfied youtuber booked speed 400 then shifted to scramvler 400 and finally bought himalayan450 but i would say non adv buyers can wait for scram 450❤❤❤ and then take decision😂
I'm also waiting for the scram 450. But from the leaks, it's a hunter 450 with no telescopic forks and stupid 17inch wheels. It won't come close to a scrambler.
So disappointed.

I am thinking of upgrading my Dominar 250 to HONDA 350s Which to consider? U r opinion?
We never recommend the Honda 350s at all, Siddarth. And we don't think very highly of the Dominar either, unfortunately, although the 250 is a better bike than the 400 for sure 🤦🏽♂️

@@sidharths2357 In many of the other videos, it has been discussed time and again that the 350s are not Honda's true retro bikes with their own design language.
After test riding them, u can say that they are better than RE 350s but they leave a bitter aftertaste in the mouth desiring more performance.
I would love to tell you a very simple advice.
As an Indian, our economy is growing and our purchasing power is growing.
So if u plan for any of 350, then move up the ladder and buy a 400 or 450. Whatever the budget you can stretch.
If you are planning for a 400 then straight up move to RE 650s.
Upskill yourself for the next 5-7 years if you are planning for new motorcycle purchase now and save money each month a little bit for the years to come.
So that when you buy a new bike, you are ready for upskilling yourself more.
I am saying this to you because I myself went from same phase, where I wanted to purchase a 400 but then bought a 200 because the roads were not good.
7 years later, I now feel the 400 would have been a good thing.
But I moved to 650s in 2021 and have never looked back.
What about service if neatest service center is situated at almost 150km. It's nearest.
Service is the only reason for not buying one. Despite i like scam 400x so much.

The 400 is perfect for that height ..but like he said you can still learn more skills to ride a taller motorcycle

400x if you are over 167 cm height! Otherwise with Indian roads, playing 'stable footsie' is a real pain. Why can't there be a low seat option? Even my Tiger 850 Sport has it and I manage that quite well.
You guys need to consider these types of issues too before making 'declarations', else you may lose credibility.
We've played footsie with far taller bikes than this Shashi - and we've _learnt_ how to. It's a skill. There's absolutely no plan to encourage people to think or believe that just because they were not tall enough, they cannot ride _any motorcycle they put their mind to._ They are welcome to draw their own boundaries, we won't be helping them limit themselves.
