    YOU are one of the VERY VERY BEST motorcycle reviewers out there. VERY natural, you have a REAL talent.
    I like the natural way you review, NO stupid LOUD music (NOISE). You tell it as it is.

    Please do not change.

    Excellent review. Fair and balanced. Great handling of the bikes shortcomings which are legitimate ones. I still believe this is the next bike for me. There will definitely be aftermarket upgrades in the future and I love modifying my bikes. My previous bike was a 2016 Bonneville T120 which I sold to move to Portugal.

    Great review. Very detailed, thank you and Guri for your work. I actually wanted to buy a big bike again as usual but this 400X has something which speaks to me. Not heavy, nice ergonomics and a sweet "little" engine. I mean here in Germany they buy a BMW 1300 GS because they think they need it for their 3-Day-Trip on fine roads but actually all they "need" is a 400cc like this. Drive safe.

    Nice review. Few other things added here are:
    Wider handlebar
    Brace and that cover on handlebar
    Tank pads
    Different seat & split
    Twin/ split exhaust
    Rear view mirrors on the bars

    Thank you for this thorough and thoughtful review! Most complete I've seen on the new 400X so far. Now I'm even more interested in a test ride when they become available here in Jan 2024 (California). At ~$7k OTD (600,000 Rupee) it's not quite as great a price for what it is, but still worth a hard look.

    • @Cadambank
      @Cadambank ปีที่แล้ว

      It does sound costly at that price. How does it compare to Himalayan 450 prices? If it is equal or more then it is overpriced. If it's less than it, then it's ok price there.

    • @FatherOBlivion
      @FatherOBlivion ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Cadambank Good point. I haven't seen the price for the new, updated Himalayan, which looks like a great update. The previous Himalayan was about the same price, maybe a little more than the Triumph, but not by much.

  • @twowheeledparadox
    @twowheeledparadox ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Great review. From the info available so far, it is clear that this bike is a soft-roader and competes more closely with the 390 Adventure than the upcoming Himalayan 452.
    Considering the fact that the 390 Adventure X is about 17-18k more expensive but has more suspension travel and 8 kg lower weight, it seems to be a better option off the road. Feature set is similar too. However, the Scrambler 400X has the advantage of strong low end torque which is great for more technical sections. Suspension travel is the same as the 390 Duke, though.
    The Himalayan 452 seems to be a proper adv bike so it is in a different category altogether. It seems clear that if you want to do some proper off road riding, the Himalayan is the one to get. 21" front rim and long travel suspension are essential for that purpose.
    In any case, I would avoid the first batches of the Triumph 400s as well as the upcoming RE 452 platform, considering they are not Japanese bikes.

    • @Twenty3Rides
      @Twenty3Rides  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You have accurately summarised everything here .. Totally agree. 🫡. Better wait now and then take a call in Jan 2024..

    • @sanketjain9320
      @sanketjain9320 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agree about avoiding first batch of non-japanese bikes. ALthough from my exrensive research, Triumph is perhaps the most reliable British brand. So I would be much more vigilant in buying Himalayan first batch, than Triumph. :D

    • @twowheeledparadox
      @twowheeledparadox ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@sanketjain9320 Most of the engineering was done by Bajaj for this bike and they manufacture it too. If KTM's first Indian batches (also made by Bajaj) are anything to go by, Triumph's first batches should be avoided or at least approached with a great deal of caution. I'm sure the 400s won't have any issue as severe and pervasive as the infamous engine immobilizer one but still. I agree about the Himalayan 452 warranting more vigilance than Triumph, though. RE quality levels are way up from before but they are not perfect yet. In any case, the Triumph 400s do not interest me at all. The Himalayan 452 does because it is an adv bike.

    • @kirannaidu7209
      @kirannaidu7209 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@twowheeledparadoxwell the certification and pda checks are all done by Triumph and not Bajaj. Going but the reputation of Triumph and their keenness to enter the Indian market. The Triumph is the safest to buy of all three..

    • @twowheeledparadox
      @twowheeledparadox ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kirannaidu7209 Given Triumph's poor handling of the infamous engine immobilizer issue that affected bikes like the Street Twin, Thruxton 1200 and one of the Tigers, I would say that Triumph is only a little bit more worthy of trust than RE in the context of early batch bikes. In any case, the Scrambler 400X has the same amount of suspension travel as the 125 to the 390 Dukes. Add high profile tyres and the ground clearance is matched too. So for me it won't be an upgrade for me. The Himalayan clearly has better configuration. Regardless, I wouldn't buy the TR400s from the first batch, same as the Himalayan.

    Freight: $1,200.
    Set Up: $500.

    Really good and thoughtful review and from afar you spoke well to my reservations. If we're lucky triumph will introduce an XE model with better travel suspension & spoked wheels. I'd also like to see a more robust bash plate that also reaches out to cover the exhaust.
    Having said that I'm still 90% sure I'll buy one as soon as it reaches the UK in the new year?. What still concerns me is reliability?. As a complete new engine and bike I suspect it'll have some issues even if minor quality control issues that need sorting in the year ahead?. I've been hoping to come across a higher mileage review of the speed 400 to see what issues if any have popped up?. Sadly, though understandably, the few I've found are not done in English as you've done so I'm still none the wiser.
    I'm envious that you guys in India have the first chance to throw a leg over, but I was really hoping that meant I knew what I was throwing my hard earned money at before it gets here. Cheers from blighty.

    Since you owned Triumph big bikes, can you touch on how your ownership experience has been specifically around the bike's reliability and how it ages? If you've had to reachout to Triumph directly for any issue, that experience would also be greatly appreciated.

      For me Delhi NCR it has been OK. I have owners the tiger 800 and now 900. For such machines parts availability is always an issue and involves a wait time , be it any brand .. Customer experience wise it has been absolutely fine for me ..

    Excellent review. Have you ridden the Royal Enfield Scram, if so, how do the two bikes compare ergonomically ? Given that the Scram will be upgraded to a 452cc engine do you feel it would be a better buy ? Both bikes are likely to be pavement primarily with off-road riding as an option which would you favour ?

  • @daveplem

    Will Triumph offer a Tiger 400 next to satisfy your desire for a more adventure oriented bike? I think so. You will get your more off-road oriented bike when they do. I suspect it will include spoked wheels, longer/better suspension, a bigger fuel tank, a more comfortable saddle, and factory luggage options. That being said, I’m not sure you were fair in your review of the scrambler. Scramblers have never been great off-road, and they are used almost exclusively on roads. However, a proper ADV will have much more of a dual-sport skill set, but it will come at the cost of seat height and appearance. The scrambler is beautiful. I do not think the Tiger 400 can achieve that level of aesthetics and still have the range and function that is desired.
    Even so, I’m not going to buy anything in the Triumph 400 range until I’m convinced all of the models that will ultimately be in the platform are in the lineup.

But I am still confused which one to buy. Scrambler is all good for me only its height is an issue. Speed 400 is good for height but I think lags a bit behind than scrmabler about some features? What would u suggest?

    • @Twenty3Rides

      With some practice Scrambler will be manageable since its not a heavy machine. If you can get used to its seat height and develop some offroad skill, it will be worthy enough .

    The suspension travel in front is 130mm and rear its 140mm on speed and on scrambler they have increased to 150mm front and rear is what you said, so ideally they have increased 20mm in front and 10mm at rear. And what you advised 20mm should have been increased in front which is actually the case, do you still think they should have increased it more by 10mm?

    • @Twenty3Rides
      @Twenty3Rides  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I meant .. Front and rear se suspension travel should have been 180 and 170 respectively.. To make off-road riding more comfortable.. Right now it feels harsh on offroad.. I guess triumph wanted better handling and city ride ..

      I feel this has all it takes to be the allrounder motorcycle that anyone would need. While Himalayan 450 is in everyones mind.. But this anyday will have better build quality than RE..
      and dont forget 16,000km service interval..
      Regarding adv250.. This is a much relaxed machine.. No need to revv it unnecessarily.. Ride slow and fast .. Both with ease.. and offcourse premium big bike feel is also there..

      I'm from the UK and don't ride off road. The suspension travel is fine, the coolant tank not a problem (although it would be better placed elsewhere), I like the cast wheels with tubeless tyres and the instrumentation looks good for this price. My only dislike is that the bike does not have a centre stand. 👍
