Thanks for your tips! I installed Raspberry PI 4 (single board computer) with OpenAuto Pro software recently in my car. Video was really helpful in connection audio signal from the PI to the car amplifier.
After installing my first aftermarket CD player/Indash along with car audio system when I was young (16 yrs old) & actually wired it all up right the first time & now 32 yrs old still going at it. It's all about knowing exactly how to wire the pos + neg (Positive wiring= one solid color) (Negative wiring= Exact same color as positive wiring only with a "black stripe" which means it's a negative wire) Making sure all pos + neg same color coded wiring is wired together from factory plug & play harness directly to CD or Indash harness is correct,. When wiring 12v red, accessory (ACC) yellow wiring, them wires are connected together to power head unit which includes the "Black" ground wiring that is also allowing power to head unit which the ground wiring is wired into harness from what I've dealt with personal, except when dealing with a handful of other person setups. If it has to be grounded inside dash to metal, an example is finding a factory bolt inside dash to attach & hold ground wiring under bolt tightened will work just fine. The remote wire (subwoofer amp wire) wires to blue neg wire then ran to amp. Illumination orange wiring dims brightness on head unit at dark & vice versa during the day. It's fairly easy to DIY with patience attention & silence lol. I've left things out like RCA's but when running a car audio system the subwoofer amp requires RCA wires to transfer a output & input line from head unit to amplifier.
Thanks for your videos Anthony. We appreciate them. Q: How on a german car without an 'acc' key position , can we manually turn on an aftermarket head unit when we're sitting with the car stationary...say in a carpark ? Can we for instance run a signal from a switched 12v source to the head unit, independent of the ign switch ? How do we do that & where do we input the signal to the head unit please ? With thanks from Australia. Rupert
Hey Rupert, there's no accessory position on your car? I thought a lot of German cars as soon as you put the key in the ignition it will allow you to turn on the radio. What if you turn ignition to the "on" position then turn it back to off but leave the key in the ignition tumbler? Does the head unit stay on?

+tany vega Take it to a reputable shop that has reasonable rates. If you plan on running a lot of new wire I would not suggest it if you're a novice. Could be a fire hazard or you might get poor performance. Just being honest from what I've seen.
The harness kit I got says to disconnect the negative terminal from your car battery to avoid short circuits, but I'm not wiring anything while it's connected so that shouldn't be necessary right?
By "remote" it is a positive trigger wire to activate an amplifier or power antenna. Has nothing to do with the hand held remote. You can also refer to the installation manual.
The harness that came with my stereo doesn't have a blue or solid orange wire. It has the white and orange wire, so I'm assuming I just connect that to the white and orange wire on the harness kit?
+darktangent10 I figured out that the orange and white wire goes to the orange one on the harness kit. There's just one more wire, it has kind of like a tape on the end that says system remote control. The manual says "Connect to the system control terminal of the power amp or auto-antenna relay control terminal". There is a blue wire on the harness kit that says power antenna...does it connect to that?
+darktangent10 I did a bit of reading and I think I answered my own question. I'm not using a power amp so I'll just leave that piece of tape on the blue/white wire as is. My 2000 Honda CRV doesn't have a power antenna, so I'll tape up the blue wire. I tested everything out and both the radio and aux input work, and the speakers fade front to back and balance left and right correctly. Thanks for the video, it helped a lot!

Nice tutorial. I hope you can help me though. I did matched all the wires by color but i am not getting any audio on my stereo. Thanks in advance.
Factory amp not turning on?
Could you help me with finding a compatible radio that works with the steering wheel, works with dual sound, DVD, usb and mp3 for 2009 toyota sienna jbl
Any head unit that works with a steering wheel control module.
The only wire that confuses me is the orange wire. I see three of them. Do I connect all three orange ones together?
No do not connect them all together. Just connect the orange wires that match from the new head unit to the wire harness. Terminate the other connections.
So it is just color matching ?
Steven Duarte Of you have an aftermarket harness for the most part. But you need to read the manual to verify which wires you need.
Hi do I need to ground the black wire or just leave it loose system is working fine currently.
I would ground the head unit
I have a question about my new double din head unit wiring harness. I have four wires that I cannot figure out what to hook them to. They are the violet/white reverse(+), the white key- a, the brown key- b, and the black key- ground. I'm using a backup camera and steering wheel control. I just don't understand what to hook these wires to.
Violet and white is most likely reverse, the rest are for steering wheel controls. You'll have to consult your owner's manual.
Helpful video. I have a problem. I have a 2004 Saturn Ion and the wires for the car is a completely different set of wires that my aftermarket stereo came with. There are some common colors, but there is colors that one set has that the other doesn't, and vice versa. Any suggestions on which goes where? Please and thank you.
+Axumful Are you using an after market harness?
+AnthonyJ350 Yes I am.
Axumful The colours should just match. Can you take a picture and post it on my facebook page?
what sort of voltage test unit are you using that has a single probe?
Chris Valery Power Probe 4
AnthonyJ350 thanks!
Still has a ground probe. so 2, not 1
is a car from 1987 going to have normal harness, specifically a cadillac seville, like easy color matching?
Some do. You can search your vehicle on Metraonline.com or bestkits.com
Ok I have a 97 honda civic and I connected all the wires correctly but my radio won't start fuses are good and I know the constant cable has power because the old radio turned on please help
Did you test the wires with a multimeter to verify they have power? Sometimes a bad connection will prevent voltage from flowing through. Also is the fuse in the mew head unit good?
My car pioneer connect has one Ilumination wire but, my car has two : Ilumination (+) and Ilumination (-). What should be use?
Test and verify and the instruction manual should say it's a positive input trigger.
hi quick question. I bought an aftermarket radio for my 2007 Toyota 4runner. the harness I got from metra only has orange/white cable for dimming. my radio wires has a orange/black (which most people say not to use) and a solid orange for illumination. should or could I connect the orange/white with the solid orange?
Do not connect the orange wires please.
whats the name of the probe youre using in the video. i'd like to order one.
I use the Power Probe 4 now and I put a lead off a regular multimeter in it.
What did you do with the blue white antenna wire because there wasnt a blue white wire on the other harness
Just combine them
This aplies to 350z? I have mounted an screen and the amplifier doesn't work
You'll need to bypass the amplifier in the back of the car in that case
can you do a video on how to install a BOSS Audio 508UAB in a Pontiac Grand Prix 05 or tell me how? it came with the 2 wiring harness but my car's harness has more wires on the big white one an the small black one
Are these color codings pretty consistent among make and models?
And if not, what would be the case for a 1997 1500 silverado....I’m just trying to find the speaker wires
Philip Seitz The colour coding is for aftermarket wiring. You'll need to purchase a wiring harness for your vehicle.
Philip Seitz.
I have a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer with the factory JBL system. I went through four harnesses that didn't fit, so I cut the black 16 pin plug thinking I could wire it but the color to the door speakers and all are different colors. Now I'm radio less. Any way I can hook up my double din pioneer head unit? I can get power to it but how would I wire it up to get sound to come out.
I installed an aftermarket android radio to my cx9. Everything worked for a day radio, Bluetooth, and video (youtube) now I can only hear the radio, Everything else I can't hear. Power is good I can see my phone dialing and videos but no sound comes out. Again I can only hear the radio. Any advice. Thanks
Check the power antenna and amp turn on wires.
My 2012 Nissan Frontier has like 3 times as many wires than comes with my aftermarket (jvc) stereo harness what do I do? Are some wires not necessary to be connected?
+Dylan Teller Ya there's several ground wires and you should still make you own ground to chassis with a Nissan. You'll also have a couple blue wires. Do you have the Rockford system? You could just ask a seasoned shop to put the harness together, then you hook up ground to chassis and plug it all in.
+AnthonyJ350 I have a JVC KW-V220BT stereo and my truck has like 4 black wires a few orange a few gray a few blue and a few white I think there's probably more
Im about to put a sony head unit in my toyota matrix that has built in amp its a 400 watt unit and its recommends that you hook up to battery so i run the yellow Positive to battry and then black to ground or can it go on neg terminal on battery and the red ass wire to cig lighter i cant find this out and ive gone off everything youve done up to this point can you help me again anthony?I havent had any problem since watching your videos Thanks Again Buddy.
I would hook it straight to battery with a fuse and nut and bolt ground to the sub frame in the dash
@@AnthonyJ350 Okay thats what I was thinking but wasnt completely sure knew i could ask you thanks again
@@JRTreeService-Firewood You're welcome
@@AnthonyJ350 Instead of sub frame i went to factory ground down by passenger door and to battery worked good and it was first time doing a head unit install thanks again for your help Anthony
@@JRTreeService-Firewood Definitely can't go wrong with factory ground locations. Glad you got it working!
hey man, my cars wires seem to be all messed up and I wanna run new lines, any advice on how I should?
+tany vega Take it to a reputable shop that has reasonable rates. If you plan on running a lot of new wire I would not suggest it if you're a novice. Could be a fire hazard or you might get poor performance. Just being honest from what I've seen.
Thank you man
The harness kit I got says to disconnect the negative terminal from your car battery to avoid short circuits, but I'm not wiring anything while it's connected so that shouldn't be necessary right?
My car has no black wire for ground but my aftermarket dash has black wire. Where do I place it?
The black wire can go right to chassis, I have a video showing it here th-cam.com/video/cUZJQu207N0/w-d-xo.html
Hey I get a 01 mustg my rodio is new I had a stop hook it up it was working but now it's not working at all can u plz tell me why plz
Chris Reinsmith If it was working before it's most likely a blown fuse. I would just bring it back to the shop and let them check it out
thanks dude
Your welcome!
My harness comes with a blue wire labeled as Remote Control (the stereo does come with a remote control), pity you did not cover this.
I did, it's amp turn on wire
+darktangent10 yes
Hi Anthony, I have question on head unit and my multi control steering wheel. I just change my steering wheel to a multi control steering wheel but it does not work. What other things do I need and where can I get the items. I am driving a Honda stream rn6 RSZ. My Existing does not come with any multi control button on my wheels.
Hi there, I'm not familiar with those vehicles. Were steering wheel controls an option on the car? The clock spring may be different with cars equipped. Also is it a factory head unit?
which one is for the stereo screen??
9uf7guhìhùhyþucd3r4 yet again is þdtughugz-#4=%_,6^3@
how do I connect the red wire? do I connect it with the yellow wire to the positive wire on the battery or do I connect it to the ignition key area?
Try watching my install video th-cam.com/video/q7m5kl_WyX0/w-d-xo.html
Question so my nephew and I was trying to hook my Dual radio up and this fool touched the ground wire to some wires connected. My question is did he kill my radio because the power want come on anymore on it
Check the factory fuses.
AnthonyJ350 The dude in the back of the radio is good but still no power. I checked my fuse under the hood and I have a few that are out
Check all the fuses and make sure you have constant power, switched power and ground at the radio. Here's hot to check the fuses th-cam.com/video/pHkgjXKdUvs/w-d-xo.html
AnthonyJ350 the fuse was out I changed it and put the stick radio back in. My next question could the connector be blown out from him doing that
Thanks for the video! How about having a 2nd red/white wire on the harness in to a Saturn Ion 2003? No red/white wire on the after market harness. Do I have to connect this red/white to another wire? Thanks
+Kbiha There should be instructions in the packaging or on it explaining what each colour specifically does.
I'm putting a JVC R930BTS into a 2004 Kia Amanti. I bought the connecting harness (70-7301) to connect them. I put all the colors together but I'm confused with the orange. On the JVC wiring, there is an orange/white wire (illumination) on the connector part all there is is a solid orange on the other connector. Do I put those together?
Keep illumination wires apart.
Im not sure how to do this but here goes nothing... I have a 03 Pontiac Grand am & i can't seem to get the wires rite. If u have time id like to no what each wire means & wer it goes. Ty
Did you purchase a module for the vehicle?
so when installing a radio both red and yellow wires are connected together??
+fcolon1976 No, yellow goes to a constant 12+ line while red goes to accessory. You have to consult your owner's manual incase the wire colours vary from standard colour coding.
ok thank you
Hi. Im setting up my pioneer avh-275bt and im not sure which cable is the one for the handbrake. The stereo only lets you use some features while the parking brake is on.
Try to connect that cable with ground, usually this allows you to use those features all the time
Hey guys I pull out my old head unit Toyota passo 2005 and wired a market head unit but it doesn't work no power at all..
that's really helpful. but I'm installing A pioneer.
AVH-X8500BHS and it's not powering.. connected yellow to yellow red to red and black to black
Did you test your wires with a multi-meter to see what they're doing?
tie td and yellow together and you'll be golding
Hey, I have an after-market stereo and harness and my problem is it doesn't remember any saved settings and I have to set it up every time I turn the car on. Do you know what could be wrong? It's a pioneer DEH-4700BT
+St1ck3Rz BassBoost Did you do the install in a Mercedes?
No, It's a 2001 Citroen Saxo VTS (French tin can only sold in Europe)
St1ck3Rz BassBoost Seems like your constant and accessory wire are backwards.
Okay, Thanks for the help.
I imstalled a new deck in my car but the owner before me cut out the original harness and wired in a cheap deck .... I wired in my new deck and matched the wires colour to colour and my head unit doesnt power up ... any ideas
Did you test your wires with a multimeter to verify you have power, accessory and ground?
my old deck worked just fine but when I wired in the new one It turned on ... next day I finished installing it wont power on ...
Ok I put in a Boss Indash and a box that gives it better ground but, at times the vocal sounds really low and then goes high and gets like on some of the radio station it sounds really low help??
Boss audio processors are pretty basic. I would recommend something like Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer etc. Also make sure you have a good ground connection to the head unit.
my head unit is not turning on, i was trying to see why my amp wasnot geting sound to it so i narrarowed it down to the head unit so i pulled the fuse to check it and it was good so i put it back together but now my head unit wont turn on and the fuse is still good. i know i got power to the red wire but not the yellow wire. can u tell me whats wrong or what to check?

If you have a removable frount face. There may be a small tiny hole that you can take a paperclip (straighten it out) and push inside to reset it.
Obviously you have to remove the frount face first. then you will see all black panel.
I have a 2006 seebring and the old aftermarket stereo that was in it stopped working right the face plate is bad .so i got a new one that im 100 percent is good i hooked it up and it wont come on. The old one still does but is broke so i know its not the car..do you have any idea whats going on i hooked the colors up to the thing like i always do red to red black to black yellow to yellow..and no power
cris kringle You have to test the wires to make sure you have power and ground.
AnthonyJ350 ok im going and see. Thanks for responding
So when we want to use amplifier + subs, can we connect remote amp to antenna stock head unit? And for the right and left channel of the subwoofer, we take them from front or rear channel? Thank you.
For sub use the SUB preout or rear if you don't have SUB. As long as your remote wire is always on then yes.
my 07 Audi A4 has a problem. works perfectly, but the red accessory wire is not working. bought a fuse tap, connected to an accessory fuse, but still stays on even with key out.
Dylan DeThomas Search bestkits.com or Metra. Your vehicle probably needs a module to work properly.
i have car radio, but the radio dont have a adaptor.. its hard to determine the correct wire..can u help me..
What kind of vehicle is it? Why not go to the local audio shop and get the adaptor?
Hi guys can you connect LED from the P S U unit at same time as a car radio or is there an easier way cheers
PSU unit?
Awsome video dude really helped me out!!
That's great!
Just installed a Kenwood X998 and I tested my P.Cont "blue/white" wire that I'm using as a remote wire and when I tested it with my multi-meter it was coming in at 22 volts, is this normal?
so im trying to install my half din dvd unit to my go cart. I was thinking black = ground to battery or frame, Red =toggle switch then to splice yellow, Yellow = + on the battery. Will this work??
+Austin Dovel It will if that's what those colours are designated. Just verify in your owner's manual of battery, switch and ground wires.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for watching!
excellent video! thanks for sharing
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
I just intalled one of those Chinese stereos that cost $35 in my 2015 Chevrolet Captiva. Stereo works fine and the rearview camera also turned out ok. But two problems happened. First, my Parking sensors in the back dont work anymore (no sound and the dash says Park Assist is off). Also, my turn signals work but there is no clicking sound. I guess there were a couple of connectors on the Original radio that did not get connected to anything. Anyone have any ideas?
You need to install a unit with a proper integration module that is compatible with your vehicle.
What if all the wire colors don’t match to your new harness?
You'll have to test and refer to the wiring diagram provided.
