Hello from San Diego California. Because the powers that be in my State, I want to be able to mount a bayonet to my 870, to my new Benelli, to my Winchester 94, to my broom, the vacuum, the toilet brush.... well maybe not the brush because eww. Love to get an actual Shockwave and mount a bayonet to that just because ... 'Murica!!
Thank you for this important information. I now know what type of M7 bayonet to attach on my new Mossberg 590A1 shotgun.
I've got a Gencut M7, a Marbles M7 and an Ontario ( OKC) M9 ,USMC fighting knife/ bayonet. The USMC Fits tightest ( $150), Gencut fits great ($35 during Gulf war), Marbles is junk but light weight( $29). ALL FIT my M590A1 military Mossy! Also got Texas mini clip system so I could load 14x 1 3/4" mini shells! All previous U.S. military trench guns used the 1917 Enfield bayonet ( $300-$500).
I've wanted to do this for over 20 years, fuck it! I'm doing it! Thanks for the helpful advice, can't wait to see how it looks when I'm done.

I got the 590a1. It came with an Ontario m9 bayonet. Fits perfect. The look? Menacing!!!
Buy a GG&G front sling, light, sling + light combo mount. They make a bunch of varieties for these things, you could simply go the cheapest route and get the $16 single loop sling attachment. All this will do is push the front cap out about 1/10" further. Then you will not only gain the ability to run the longer OKC-3S bayonet, but you can still mount the slightly shorter M-7 bayonet.
+1 for versatility in the bayonet department, and no real drawbacks...
-1, just remembered, you will NEED to grind out a small groove on the bottom part of the GG&G mount so the bayonet will actually fit without any interference. Really not a huge deal, but something I just remembered.
In the end though, totally worth it. I love my 590A1 even more with the option to put whatever bayonet on it I want :)

@@zombiethezerker I was referring to a GG&G part that can be attached to the shotguns magazine-tube. If you still want to be able to attach a bayonet, it'll work better if you grind down a small section of the metal on this separate part...
@@KillerBD yes i understood you meant on the extra rail you can buy from gg and g to attach flashlights and such too and i was confused on where i would grind on it

The M9 and the M7 fit mine just fine.
I have a mossbergh 590a1,and I purchased an m-7 GenCut bayonet from Sarco Inc. It's a surplus, super sharp, and fits perfectly. $60.00 In original packaging.
Interesting and good to know. The M9 bayonet fits my Mossberg M590A1 Retrograde perfectly. The M9, the current bayonet in US Military service, is based on the Soviet era bayonet, with an integral wire cutter in the sheath. The knife itself is roughly the same size as the Ka-Bar fighting knife and is much more of a multipurpose knife, where as the M7 bayonet, shown in the video, was designed for the M1 carbines, and later used on the M16. While there is no need for a bayonet in the civilian world, it sure looks cool. Too bad the M-1917 bayonet, for use on the Model 1907 Trenchgun, doesn't fit. That would be too cool!
M7 bayonet is only gonna fit an m16 style. Not an m1 carbine.

Sure there's a need for the bayonet in the civilian world; what could be better than combining two of the most dangerous hand weapons? You run out of ammo in a riot/group fight, SHTF or WROL situation and the bayo makes your long arm into a spear. I think it's a great visual deterrent. The M1917 "sword bayonet" (17" blade) is approaching the ridiculous, but mounted on a shotgun makes it a better, less unwieldy overall length than on the rifle it was intended for. I think the M9 is a bloated, clunky affair that's basically a smaller E-tool 😀. The M7 is much lighter and its spear point blade is so svelte in comparison to the M9 blade/saw/wire cutter. The M9 only exists because the U.S. had to copy the superlative 6X3, 6X4, 6X5 Kalashnikov bayonets which were truly groundbreaking.
Man I remember when those mil surp bayonets for the M16, M14, M1 Carbine were way less than $50 and picked up a few at gun shows. The only one I have that I paid more for is a new (unused) Colt M7 and I think it was $70 ish. The M9 models are quite a bit more than the M7 these days. I have a LanCay M9 and my Mossberg 590A1 came with an Ontario M9. All of these bayonets are interesting.

He's using what appears to be an anachronistic M1907 leather sling. A better choice, timeline wise, would be an olive green canvas or nylon "M1" sling used on the M1, M14, M16 (Vietnam era). A lot quicker to cinch up too than the M1907 with its holes and prongs, and it would be nearly correct for a military shotgun that the 590 Retrograde is trying to emulate.
It is heavy with 7 rounds and bar bayonet the real Mcoy.

NC star has the picatinny bayonet lug
Watch out using the NC Star bayonet lug. The metal is really soft aluminum and is very weak.
You mentioned the Sling Swivel,....which kind did you use that takes the 1.25 inch

Looks legit! This is the 590 A1 Retrograde? I think the standard 590 Retrograde doesn't come with the bayonet lug, maybe they changed it recently
It’s the standard 590 retrograde the A1 has Ghost ring sights and heavy wall barrel.

I trying to put one my mossberg 500, but the bottom barrel is shorter than the top barrel. You have any suggestions for me to fix the problem.
There might be some kind of crazy adaptor out there But typically the 500 is not designed to accept a bayonet

@@SlimCowboy I have the lug i put on it. The upper barrel is longer than the bottom to where it wont fit. The lug too far back
Instead of using a rubber O-ring , find a copper or brass lock ring!!!

It’s no adapter, most 590s as far as I know come with the lug already installed you just need a correct bayonet.

Stabby things are cool, not super practical but cool.
When ammo runs dry on shotgun, having a much sharper front end can be quite helpful. These are proven in the trenches during world wars, I think itll handle most peoples needs for defending their home even in the worst of situations. Personally I have a side saddle for +6 and a flashlight.. but if there is zombie apoc/SHTF scenario, bayp is a pretty clutch option. I wouldnt underestimate it. it also has all the benefits of a knife since it csn be taken off but doesnt need to be carried on body
Imagine you are hunting a wild boar. It rushes you. You miss your first shot. You panic and short stroke it. Click. Then you point the sharp pointy end at the pig. Bam bacon for weeks.
The thing you're harping on about the M7 bayonet (M9 too) is no cause for concern when used on M-16/M-4 rifles, because the bayonet muzzle-ring's fit on the barrel is not dependent upon a small portion of steel like on your shotgun. On a rifle, the bayonet muzzle ring passes the rifle muzzle and once fully locked on about 1.5" of barrel extends beyond the muzzle ring ensuring that the bayonet will not fall off. I imagine that there's quite a bit of manufacturing variances from one bayonet to the next and thus many will not have identical distances between the muzzle ring and the pommel. I just proved this by measuring two of my G.I. M7's and they are a few fractions of an inch off. It's possible to modify the bayonet to fit the shotgun better. Remove the pommel and grind the hilt top and bottom so that the pommel fits further up on the hilt. Re-install the pommel by peening the tang over the end of the pommel to secure it. This sort of thing was done at the armory (pretty much an expert repair) to fix loose parts and possibly for bayonets that were out of spec like yours.
Have more faith in American manufacturing lol. I was not the first person to come to this conclusion in the video. Lots of the reproduced / current production bayonets don’t fit and pretty much all of the originals do.
