I just purchased a new 590 retro. It is a great home defense weapon. I purchased it because I still have a Model 500 that was given to me as a Christmas gift back in 1986, and still works.
Beautiful retrograde. Being based out of California, i gravitated towards shotguns because everything else is heavily regulated here. Found this in stock and I couldn’t buy it fast enough lol definitely my favorite 12 gauge I own
I have the A1 version and thanks for pointing out the second option for the sling mount,I didn’t know it was there and was scratching my head trying to decide on getting a sling or the bayonet because I thought one would conflict with the other.I did get the opsol adapter to be able to shoot shorty shells,it’s a nice addition to have for rifle.
Just got mine.... I have to say... I owned a benelli m4 and the feel of that is extremely well built, this Shotgun has a feel to it I've NEVER felt with a pump before. Extremely happy with the build quality
I bought my 590a1 Retrograde as a do it all shotgun. I took a 20" because of capacity. 8+1 vs 6+1 on the 18.5" model by only 1.5" difference. The ghost ring sights are awesome, i shot a deer at more than 100m.
The problem with the plastic trigger guard is that it's in place with one pin. It breaks of easier than if placed with two. But it'll get your home safe, or your family out of town. There are a few down sides with the Mossberg. The shell lifter can pop out if you drop it. That goes for all mossys
Just bought one for my dad. I have a 590 A1 Retrograde but for my 75+ yr. old Pop it was a bit heavy. He likes the 590 so I got it for him. He may never use it but that's not the point.
Beautiful shotgun. I love mossbergs, especially the 590, retrograde looks so good. I went synthetic stocks to prevent any issues long term with maintaining wood. I always drool when I see the wood ones tho! Great review! Excellent choice. Based on intto and this review, earned my subscribe
as far as the sharp pointy thing, LoL, for real have you had problems with the bayonet being kinda loose on the mount after firing it a lot, if so how can that be addressed, so it will be nice & tight !! I have the same Mossberg (not an A1) but still the retrograde. I have a M9 "Rambo" bayonet for mine, it is very loose and it jiggles a lot just from walking around with it at the gun range !!
Was the bayonet made by Ontario? Reason I ask is because the modern made bayonets are a small bit longer and have trouble sitting well on the gun verses the old ones. I haven’t shot mine a ton with the bayonet yet but I plan on it soon to do more testing for another video.
@@SlimCowboy it's I believe actually a rothco M9 bayonet, still kinda pricey, but not as much moola as an Ontario !! I'm sure it can be trouble shooted, just was wondering if U had the same issue with your M7 bayonet !!
Nice video, I have the same shotgun, it is amazing, but I would like to know how do you put the sling lower, what kind of adapter have you used? Thanks for the answer...
What do i think well i have three Mossberg a 500 in 20 GA a 500 in 12GA with two barrel one 18 1/2 inch and one 20 with three Chokes Imp Cyl, Mod. & full. & 590 i think i like Mossberg for 47 years & still running ! thank you for the video
They’ve been using wood on firearms for a very, very long time. If you over oil the wood, it can become fragile but generally, it’s a pretty stable stock material.
@@SlimCowboy thanks I see the hole at the back of the bayonet lug. The front mount seems to be pretty tight in the tube cap, do you need a special tool to unscrew it? Or just use force or a set of pliers?

Amen brother! Praying for us folks here in California 🙏🏽
How much did it cost you over in California?
I’m in old age Guy I love my Remingtons but damn the last 10 years just have to love the Mossberg’s

I like the 8+1 capacity on this model
same
500 series is the best. 590 is the leader. I have 3 of the 500 20 inch. Great choice.

I literally just got home with a brand new example with no box from Bass Pro Shop gun library. Out the door with military discount was $411.00.
Nice

Hey man, that's a wicked looking sling on that thing. Where did you get it?
I’ve had my retro for years, love it! No issues. Good review 👍
Nice Shotgun! Do you like the Mossberg Ghost Ring sights? Do you prefer the bead to the ghost ring sights on the Mossberg 590? Thanks.
Can you provide a link for the sling ? And what size sling swivels does the shotgun come with , 1” or 1.25” ?
Does not come with swivels--only the studs to mount the swivels of your choice.

Glad you like it thanks for the sub
You look like Harrow from Boardwalk Empire. He was a badass so it’s a good thing.

I prefer the nornal 590 over the A1. Much more balanced and handy. The normal 590 barrel is plenty tough.
Sound like someone who’s never owned a 590a1😂 okay brokie
@@FishingandFirearms i owned one for over a decade with plenty of trigger time.
@@FishingandFirearmsor someone might be compensating? 😉🤣😂

So there should be a second sling mounting hole on the back of the bayonet log allowing you to relocate the sling stud

Love that old school ribbing on the wood pump. Any chance that thing accepts chokes? Would make it alot more versatile.
Sadly, it has a fixed cylinder bore choke. You can probably get it drilled for chokes by a competent gunsmith.
Does this shoot mini shells out the box or do you need the adapter like the Maverick 88?
Would love to get the link to that sling for mine?
Great vid! Just subbed to your channel! I’m in the look for a 590
I've been hearing issues with wood forearm. The wood forearm easily breaks or cracks while pumping a shell or just bumping into another object.
They’ve been using wood on firearms for a very, very long time. If you over oil the wood, it can become fragile but generally, it’s a pretty stable stock material.
I like dry firing this one a lot
Thank you
I just got mine today. Where did you get the bayonet from . Thx .
eBay
Did the sling mount just unscrew from the outside and move to lug? Was it easy to do or do you have to take off anything to get to it
It unscrews, and then you can move it
SHARP POINTY THING! YES!
Where did you get the SLING?
It’s a replica 1907 sling that I got off Amazon
bought one today!
Is the heat shield polymer or metal?
It’s made out of metal
Is the difference between the 18.5 500 and 590 retro just the heatshield?
Pretty much.
3.5 inch... nuff said!
How do I move the front sling mount back behind the bayonet mount?
You have to unscrew it out of the front of the tube and then there should be a hole in the back of the bayonet lug that you then screw it into
@@SlimCowboy thanks I see the hole at the back of the bayonet lug. The front mount seems to be pretty tight in the tube cap, do you need a special tool to unscrew it? Or just use force or a set of pliers?
Mine was kind of loose but what I did was used some tape on pliers and stuck a small Allen key into the sling mount and turned it loose
@@SlimCowboy I’ll give that a try, thanks man. Ordered a m1907 reproduction sling for mine also
What blade do you have?
It looks like an M7 bayonet to me.
She’s a beaut!
I'm interested in buying this shoot gun what would I need to buy this shoot gun and a hand gun
Whats the price?
590
How much,
Depends where you buy it
