I’ve always liked the Steamrunner, it’s such a different-looking design. Some fanon around the time First Contact came out held that the pod between the nacelles was a “sensor scrambler” that made it impossible for weapons systems to lock onto the ship by creating sensor ghosts all around it.
My favorite FC Fleet Ship? Tough call. I love all of them, but I have a soft spot for the Nebula-class USS Lexington NCC-30405. I have various reasons, among them: A) as a child who had just seen Generations, I had hoped the Enterprise-E would be a Nebula-class like the USS Farragut from the end of that film, and although the Enterprise-E turned out to be a Sovereign-class, I'm glad the USS Lexington showed up in the battle as well. B) I lived in Lexington, KY for 12 years from 1995-2007, and having a cool ship design that shared the same name as the city I was living in at the time the movie came out was super cool. C) This kinda ties into my first reason, but I love that a ship from the TNG era was represented in TNG's first film. The rest of the fleet were either Oberth-class and Miranda-class movie era ships, or brand new designs.
So this video made me go back and re-watch the battle at the start of First Contact. As far as I was able to see, there isn't a Soyuz class like the Bozeman here in the battle. Early on you can see two standard Miranda class, but I don't think you can see this one. Now, you do hear an admiral over the comms order the Bozeman into position, and you even hear Kelsey Grammar in a one-word audio only cameo say "acknowledge", but you don't actually see the Bozeman on screen. Since the Bozeman Kelsey Grammar's character was in command of from the TNG episode "Cause and Effect" was 80 years out of date, I don't know how likely it was that that ship was still in service. Though obviously they could have given it some updates, as once can only assume they've done with the Miranda class vessels we do see. I did some checking on Memory Beta, and the Bozeman could be either another Sovereign class ship (from some novel), or a Saber class (from a licensed game of some kind). I'm inclined to think that a crew of a border patrol vessel from 80 years in the past would be more likely assigned to a Saber class than a Sovereign - plus, we see at least 3 Saber class ships in the battle, but obviously no Sovereign class other than the Enterprise.
You include the Millennium Falcon and the Bozeman (which was heard and not seen on screen) but you forgot to include a Oberth that WAS seen on screen. And it wasn't an easter egg either.
The Akira is by most people's reckoning, the belle of the ball. Truly a gorgeous ship, no argument here. And as a fairly sizable and well-armed ship, it'd probably be the one you'd want to serve on. All that said, the Saber class has just grown on me more and more over the years. There are things I'd tweak about it for sure, but that almost makes me like it more. Like you were saying in the video, the design provokes thought, which makes it all the more interesting.
Akira master race, no question. She's sleek, she's powerful, she's got effective fighter-carrying capabilities, and she's got massive torpedo firepower. I think she's got something like 15 launchers when they're fitted on the external pod? Sovereign is up there as well, can't decide which I like more. Same thing, sleek, sexy, powerful.
@Karl Llewellyn Aside from the nacelles being below the hull and the pod on top, I see no similarities except standard Starfleet design aesthetic. Also, their roles are entirely different. The Miranda is just a light multi-role cruiser, whereas the Akira is a frontline warship with fighter-carrying capabilities.
Another solid episode as per usual! To answer your question I would have been happy to serve on the Defiant, Akira and of course the Enterprise. I do hope you do a Miranda variant episode, I've often heard Miranda's referred to as the "Red Shirts" of Star Fleet, so it probably comes as no surprise that I have an affinity for that class. LOL! Looking forward 2 your Wolf 359 episode! Keep up the excellent work! Liked and subscribed! Cheers.

That's pretty cool! I would honestly like to see each of these ships get more screen time. Like in a anthology show that evenly split time (perhaps one episode each) to a different crew in an Akira, Stream Runner, Sabre and Norway class vessel. Could act as a platform for creative sci-fi authors to ply their trade in the Trek universe without the stakes that come along with the Enterprise.
I always loved the First Contact ships. The Saber is a cool little ship that looks like its meant to put up a fight, much like the Defiant while looking completely different. The Norway is an interesting design a lot of unique aspects. The Steamrunner is fantastic, I love the aggressive angles on the saucer. However, if I had to pick one it'd be the Akira, such a beauty.
I am a huge fan of the Steamrunner Class. The catamaran-like format that combines Federation design elements in a new way appeals to me. Yes, I know Lore Reloaded mocked the nacelles being the only connection between the saucer section and deflector section, but I like this aesthetic departure and I think the Steamrunner design pulls it off ibetter than the Oberon Class.
I was watching Nemesis last night, and I was reflecting on the stylistic differences of the Probert, Sternbach, Eaves, and Drexler styles relative to the era's they were working in, and it struck me that the First Contact Fleet and the 1701-E were heavily influenced by the look of the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter, which entered the zeitgeist during the brief Gulf War of 1991. That design aesthetic influenced a LOT of things that didn't need to be stealth, but since the release of the 1701-F in STO, the Sovereign class, lovely as it is, looks a bit dated!
The Akira is not only my favorite from the battle of sector 001, but also one of my top favorite designs in all of Star Trek! Akira, Disco Connie, Enterprise-A from ST: Beyond, and the Ares from Axenar. That being said, I’d gladly take a station on an Akira class ship, whether in the Captains Chair, bridge station, or janitor.
The incident you keep referencing is called "The Battle of Sector 001." Until the Enterprise arrived the USS Defiant, captained by a Klingon of all things was probably the Biggest threat. Those Dual Heavy Cannons paired with the Quantum Torpedos have always been portrayed as very effective weapons against any enemy. Eagle Moss really does have some nice models, however i am a thrifty individuals and have elected to 3d print my models. Apart from acouple of tactically irrelevant ships not being included, i Think you put together a nice presentation, thank you
@@JohnVance Ah! Okay...I think I remember seeing Kelsey G on a Trek book cover years ago! I'll have to keep an eye for out that! Wouldn't HE be make a nice little surprise cameo for Picard season two? ;)

I realize I'm probably in the minority, but I never cared much for the new Fed ships introduced in First Contact. With the exception of the Akira class, I find them to be kind of ugly. Don't care much for the sovereign either. I much prefer the classic TNG designs: nebula, galaxy, etc. Favorite FC ship would have to be the nebula. P.S. Fantastic video, as always, irishtrekkie! I know I'm a little late to the party, but I'd have to go with either the USS Yagermister or the USS BOOZEman. I might die, but at lease it would be a great time. Seriously though, Defiant all the way.
Still... For me the crossfield class (uss discovery) is my fav... 2nd is the walker class uss shenzhou and the last one is the sovereign class uss enterprise..
Good video but wrong about the Defiant, it never had a chance against the Borg Cube. The Defiant getting badly damaged was to show Starfleet making ships to fight the Borg had no chance, in fact the Defiant was originally meant to be distroyed. Luckily the writers for DS9 needed it so they could destroy it themselves 😂
Very hard to pick a favorite as they're all so good but I think I think the Akira is probably my least favorite but we're talking single digit percentage points of liking it less.
Ah, the USS Namescaepsme. Fine ship, gorgeous ship. Would be a privilege to be a part of that crew. Jokes aside, love the collection. Might order one or two at one point for my desk or something.

Akira class, as you said “All the right curves in all the right places.” Ascetically they are my favorite.
I love War of the Worlds, classic novel. So only because of that I would love to Command the Thunderchild, and play a character named Captain Wells

2 very intact ships.

Make a review of Battle Group Omega that the Enterprise was supposed to rendezvous with in Nemesis.
