Brilliant! I have never really looked at some of these! I am an old-school kit-basher, so I loved it when Trek started doing it so aggressively at Wolf 359. This is my first good solid look at the Ahwahnee, Melbourne, Kyushu, and Chekov, and they are delightful! Well done, boyo!
A constitution class ship being a training ship out on maneuvers makes sense it would have been working on a skeleton crew of cadets and freshly pinned ensigns and just so happened to be in the area when the call went out.
Riker's Melbourne would have been the excelsior class. this was the episode when he was offered the Melbourne and hadn't decided yet. then realized he would have been dead after they arrived to see the Melbourne had been destroyed.
You forgot the more standard Nebula-class. Bellerophon and Yamaguchi charged in an attempt to rescue Saratoga. Endeavor was also likely there to some extent. The four-nacelle proto-Excelsior was seen in wreckage. I'm sold on the Melbourne, but would like to know more lore. Was it a test bed for advanced technology? Is the second pair of nacelles a precursor to the Prometheus sustainer engines? Did it have Starfleet's first regenerative force fields? Were there other ships of this sup-type and how would they fare in later conflicts? Picard seemed rather taken with the ship, which is rare.
Those Wolf 359 kitbashes are awesome. It's an utter shame that we didn't get to see more of those designs in TNG and especially in DS9 during the Dominion War. I much prefer these designs to the First Contact stylings we got later on.
Here, here! First Contact designs are kind of ugly, except perhaps for the Akira. These kitbashes were basically never fully developed or used ever again. Would have been nice to see them as fully functional fully rendered ships.
I don't agree about the FC ships (but to each their own!), but I do think most of the 359 ships were better than the kitbashes they used on DS9. I notice eaglemoss hasn't rushed to make many of them. Except for the Yeager class. Which... ugh. I would have rather seen a New Orleans or Cheyenne in the background than the Yeager or some of the other DS9 kitbashes that's for sure. Oh, though now that I think about it the Centaur was a good kitbash from DS9.
I imagine the borg cube getting ready to leave the area after wiping out the fleet. The Oberth class still chugging along thinking its lucky the cube stops ...backs up and vaporizes it then the cube goes on its way.
Actually i think CGI ships are fine because what you can have done using cgi, CGI has a bad rap because of how badly its misused and overrelied on to make fast and cheap designs when its a tool to touch up what's done with kitbashes and keep them and be able to use models and prevent what happened to the enterprise b model and the other battle damage model. In otherwords DS9 mostly does CGI models right while Picard does the worst thing you can do with CGI
Think I'd have liked to serve on the Saratoga, and have a slight chance of surviving, as Sisko, Jake and some others did. Think that was the only ship with survivors-so my choice'd be the Saratoga!
As a Two Parter(The Best of Both Worlds). The Battle of Wolf 359 has been a legend in Trek Lore and has spark imagination for both fans and collectors alike. However with the Kit Bashing it is very hard to know how many ships really participated in the Battle besides the three Shelby mentioned and the Saratoga which was features in DS9. ST: The Next Generation has only featured four Starfleet class ship that is introduced by the series alone( Constellation, Ambassador, Nebula and Galaxy Class ship) but most of them are from the movies that came and went such as the Miranda, Oberth, and Excelsior class. Though mostly mentioned and illustrated in books and magazine and now available in models. So many of the ships that is being considered canon such as the New Orleans, Challenger, Freedom, Apollo, Cheyenne, Springfield etc. never was giving a chance on tv as the budget to even model build these things.
The Oberth class USS Bonestell is likely named after iconic science and science fiction illustrator Chesley Bonestell. As far as I know it was pronounced like "Bawn-eh-stell"
I can see those guys raiding the star fleet space museum for ships. Then they find Enterprise A. " Should we take it?" The other guy says " Wouldn't hurt to try".
Good job. I liked the kyushu, and chekov. the modified nebula if the extra nacelles were bigger (as big as the regular nacelles) I would not mind if sto might use the chekov as a playable tactical ship.
Rather than including an Oberth class starship in the battle, which would be next to useless in combat, a better use of it would have been to evacuate all of the civilians on the other ships to it and have it hightail it out of there. It's not a very big ship, but people can just stand in the corridors if need be. Instead, they went into battle with hundreds of civilians aboard all of these vessels and needlessly got a lot more people killed.
Looking at the Nebula class Melbourne it occurs to me that the pod with the smaller nacelles attached is actually a smaller ship evidenced by the small fins on its underside. Whether this was to be a fixture of this vessel or it was conducting trials with the smaller ship at the time of the attack would make an interesting story.

You forgot the other two Miranda Class variants that were also in the battle. I wouldn't want it to be on the nebula class. It's the newest one so it probably the one with the strongest shields and Hit the hardest
I would love to have seen some of the ships show up at other parts in TNG. When ever the Enterprise meets up with a random ship it's almost always an Excelsior class. I find the Firebrand an interesting design for a modern version of the old scout class vessels.

The Nebula Class Melbourne looks to have a detachable section under those smaller warp nacelles... looks like it's got another smaller warp capable starship piggy-backing it. Am I wrong?
The worst thing about these ships is that you can tell how they were all rushed together. by filming the models they had, the tng film crew only had a short amount of time with production and budget restraints to come up with a ‘fleet’ for the wolf 358 post battle scene. You can clearly see that they are rushed together models built from mixing and matching parts from each other to create ‘different’ ships. Why no Nebula class? I was sure we saw one during the opening sequence of ds9 episode 1 wolf 359 battle scene?
How dose a starship with one warp nacelles create a warp field? Thought it had to have two or more as the warp field is created between the two nacelles.
I really didn't like these. First off, I don't understand why Oberth-class ships keep turning up in TNG and DS9 (there was even one to welcome Voyager back to Earth in Endgame, wasn't there?) but not Constitution-class (just the one and it wasn't recognisable on screen, wrecked as it was). Oberth are ancient, ancient ships. It irritates me to see Miranda-class and Excelsior-class ships turning up too but at least they made efforts to modernise them a bit. Many of the kitbash ships just have the Galaxy saucer flipped upside down and it's very noticeable. Large ship name and registry print doesn't do it for me either. I really like the new ships they invented for First Contact - my own fleet has those, plus a Galaxy-class, minus Akira and Saber (couldn't get those). I guess the budget for Best of Both Worlds couldn't go that far but for me, a few more Galaxy-class and Ambassador-class ships in the wreckage would have made more sense.
It's cool that you like Star Trek and also notice that about the registration numbers. Pretty rare to see a girl who watches Star Trek and pay that amount of attention to detail.

1:45 that Firebrand is the dumbest Starfleet ship I've ever seen. Also with the ugly USS Buran now we see where the design for the USS Kelvin came from. The Niagra-class is a terrible kitbash as well.

Judging by the "windows" size and lettering, the Cheyenne must be a very small ship.

For me the USS Excelsior is one of the nicest ship design . The other one I really love in this fleet is the USS Chekov.

The Freedom class is the oberth class of the Galaxy class.

The freedom class starship is the tng version of the old Saladin class design from the tos era.
Need a Ambassador class Yamguchi variant, lots of differences that would be great in a new model amongst all of the other variants we've had.
