Aesthetically, the Prometheus looks deadly, but when you talked about it's ability to separate into individual attack ships I couldn't get the Voltron theme song out of my head.
@@jkeelsnc It would make sense that Starfleet and UFP would be using automation for a lot of their ships... similarly, they would use adaptive algorithms for designing ships. Why spend years on the drawing board when you can tell the computer to use an adaptive algorithm and create the best design that's great at everything using the latest in UFP science and technology. Automation is in fact thousands of times faster than people... not to mention more accurate.

It's one of the _very rare_ reboot/remakes that I fully stand behind after all these decades- being respectful of the source content, _while at the same time_ bringing in new material that was not in the original.
I refuse to believe any seperatable power grid with multiple power generation cores would be able to efficiently use that power for weapons if it can be split apart so easily.
I would agree as far as prime timeline cannon ships go. However this beautiful line from spacedock may not full account for the adolescent my ship's "equipment" is bigger than yours, that is embodied in two other ships. USS Vengeance from the Kelvin time line and or the hero ship from the fan made Rennegade movie. Both ships felt like over powered testosterone compensating fever dreams of insecure 15 year olds traped inside of 45 years olds, In my opinion at least.
I sort of have the same feelings as for the Defiant, it was the original overhyped -in-power ship (like star wars vVenator, people buff it cause they thought it looked cool when they were young). But yeah, the Prometheus one upped it.
Fun Facts: Akira class ships (while never shown on screen) were designed to not only be a formidable warship on its own, but it was suppose to be a carrier - having a huge hangar that spanned the length of the saucer section filled with fighters. The Akira class design was actually created BEFORE the NX Enterprise design and because fans loved the design of the Akira class - it became the basis of the NX design, which is why they look so similar.
The akira is kinda amazing. They went "Oh no we need real warships now" and some crazy motherfucker sitting in the corner, waiting his entire career went "Fucking finally". And busted out the most ridiculously excessive design possible and named it after an anime. - someone on discord
Maybe Booster Demon is trying to infer that the Akira is formidable, but that formidability trait is not shown properly on screen, and neither its fighter complement. It’s shown exploding, or just firing some phasers and photon torps, that’s all. We can’t really see how good this ship truly is

In my teenage mind, after seeing the E swoop in and save the Defiant in First contact and seeing the size difference, I was like the ultimate ship would be a Sovereign Class with a defiant class embedded in its hall as a captain’s yacht.
That's almost exactly what the Star Trek Online MMO came up with for the Enterprise F. It's a bigger, rounder Sovereign-inspired design with a Defiant-sized escort docked to the back where the shuttlebay usually is.
@@SabertoothSeal yeah the Odyssey class. honestly i love it. the Odyssey class was supposed to be a return to scientific exploration, but tempered by the federations reality check of three major wars practically back to back. she doesnt have as many phaser strips or torpedo launchers as the Sovereign, but what she lacks in number she gains in power. she has a couple different docking bays for shuttle craft, and of course the Aquarius class escort docked in her stern. however, she is also bloody massive, doesnt turn very well, and even though her shields are incredibly strong that alone puts her at a disadvantage; hence the Escort.

Just remember that the Defiant had been trading blows with the cube for at least an hour before the Enterprise showed up. I honestly think its a tie between the Enterprise E and the Defiant for deadliest.
One of my favorite moments in Star Trek is watching the Defiant go up against the Borg cube and then suddenly the Enterprise E warps in right in front of it and takes the brunt of a few shots for it. Such a great shot for conveying the size of the Sovereign class. And what a beautiful ship it is. Somehow the designers managed to make it stunningly sleek and beautiful.

I agree it looks cool, and I do oddly like it, but its trash in my honest opinion. Has no business being a Federation Starship. It wasn't even the ship that the original drafts of First Contact called for. In them, the Enterprise-E had at least 47 decks, but the Sovereign class has only 29. And one thing that I don't get about post Roddenberry death TNG era ships is why the hell was there no neck between the secondary hull and saucer, and why are they so _sleek_ looking?? Honestly, these are Space Ships! They don't need to be aerodynamic! 🙄
@@pepperVenge Since when does every Roddenberry era starship have a neck? Also, we know from multiple episodes that there can be turbulence in warp so "aerodynamic" makes absolute sense. I guess a better word would be streamlined. As the Federation advances its knowledge of warp drive and how warp works it makes complete sense for them to update and revise their designs for ships. Just like cars on Earth have changed design to reduce drag and increase fuel efficiency as we have learned more about fluid dynamics. And now we get into the truly pointless. Who cares what the original draft wanted. If we're going to go by the original draft of everything then Star Trek is going to look VERY different. And I'm talking Roddenberry era here. There's a reason it's called a draft. What has deck count got to do with anything? The Federation builds starships to fulfill a role. In the post Borg invasion era the Federation needs a flagship that is less family and research vessel and much more actual battle capable. You want maneuverability (means smaller). You want something that doesn't present a massive target, means compact and smaller (removing the neck removes an obvious weak point and presents a lower profile), etc. There are literally dozens of real world reasons why the ship was redesigned the way it was within the fictional world. I get it, you like the neck.. but the Federation have to live within their reality, and this represents an evolution of design thought based on the needs of the Federation and the realities they face.

Every ship with the classic Starfleet design (i.e. the design of the original Enterprise) had a neck before Roddenberry died. TOS Enterprise, and Enterprises A threw D had necks. As well as any ship that employed the classic Starfleet design. Even the Nebula class had a neck, though small, it was able to separate its saucer from it. Regarding aerodynamics in space: First of all, why does a space fairing vehicle need to be aerodynamic if 1) theres no air in space, 2) it has a main deflector that removes objects from its path, even microscopic, and even at warp, and 3) is capable of controlled decent in planetary atmosphere's -- it doesn't just fall with style the NASA shuttles did. Can you prove that a starship has to be aerodynamic to be able to propel to faster warp velocities, because that makes sense in an atmosphere, but physics in space is very different. Especially physics involved in faster then light travel. There is nothing in the way to create resistance. At least not in the way of air. There is plenty of stress put unto the hull do to E=MC2, but that is the point of the Warp Bubble; it makes the ship lighter so that it can travel faster then light. All an object needs is a deflector and a warp drive to be able to go to warp and avoid warp stress. You should probably read up on this. Further; I have to ask you to demonstrate where you got the idea that Aerodynamics is necessary for faster warp velocities. The Enterprise D, a Galaxy Class ship, is certainly not aerodynamic, but the Galaxy Class can go just as fast as the Sovereign class (as of 2377). But even its 2364 speed of warp 9.6 is still virtually the same speed as warp 9.9. The former would just be a few minutes behind. Your claim sounds made up. On the design of the Enterprise E; the writers (Moore and Braga) were very disappointing when the model for the E was released. They had to rewrite their script to fit the smaller ship as their script called for a much larger ship, but the production team either ignored them or didn't listen to the script well enough. Personally I thought the Enterprise D was awful looking when it separated. Almost like a decapitated swan for the engineering section. OFF WITH IT"S HEAD!
I like how it looks combined, the multi-vector assault mode is a huge waste of resources. You could build three smaller ships, each just as powerful, but instead you sink in not one, not two, but THREE warp cores into this thing.

It relied on transports to move between primary and secondary hull. What a wonderful idea, having crucial transportation reliant on systems that could fail at the worst possible time with no backup way to move between hulls on-foot! /sarcasm

I loved that line too. Instead of ship sjust firing and the battle goes as the story needs it to go, they admitted BEFORE the fight they have no chance. Then gained a huge edge with the visor trick. taking the audience on the whole journey. I loved it.
@@neighbor18 I think that's the old warp standard. I think that in-universe the Federation re-designated Warp 10 as the top possible speed. Warp 10 meaning you're moving so fast that you effectively exist at every point space simultaneously.
Cast Donate, targeting your opponent, and give them permanent control of the Oberth Class ship. After a few turns, it explodes, killing the controller of it.
The Dreadnought was an interesting design choice. Aside from sporting cloaking tech its primary weapon was devastating and then some. Imagine if they managed to shrink that down to phaser bank size or phaser cannon operable. Honestly I'm surprised the Federation doesn't have some sort of dedicated missile boat. Something with extreme range that can just hammer the daylights of whatever pisses them off that day.
The Dreadnought is my favorite ship from all Star Trek universes and timelines. If it was in the Prime timeline it would've been the first purpose built warship as well as the first purpose built heavy warship. It had it all speed, maneuverability, too many weapons (which is a good thing) and as you mentioned the cloaking device. She truly was a beauty.

Alex Jaeger literally designed it for _ST First Contact_ as a torpedo boat mixed with a spacecraft carrier (though we never saw the forward-facing launch bays in use nor what types of fighter craft they carried).

@@Forevermist From how I understand the lore, it was basically agreed upon that the species allied with Earth after the Romulan War that they would pool all of their technologies together when building starships, with the Vulcan Navy, the Andorian guard, and similar agencies of member Federation worlds being folded into Starfleet, because Earth was chosen as the Federation capitol since, it was Earth that helped form the coalition of races that halted the Romulan advance and the stabilization of the region. It was agreed upon to generally use Starfleet ship designs, but you often see and hear of starship designs by other races in Starfleet when sifting through lore, or ships entirely cured by a race that's not humans such as the USS T'Kumbra which is crewed entirely by Vulcans. and when going through the movies and series as a whole you'll bump into the complaint that Starfleet and the Federation often seems to be human centric. In essence, it's a little bit more complicated and nuanced.
Merchandising is pretty much the only reason stuff like that exists. Otherwise you could just attack with more than one ship with the same effectiveness.
It’s introduction was great. They just kinda had it slowly ease up into view, it was reminiscent of Star Trek: the motion picture where the shuttle slowly brings the ship into frame, without the 10 minute cut of showing it from different angles
I totally share your sentiment about the majestic Sovereign class. Just wanted to provide some more insight into her awesome power. In the book "Battle of Betazed" we get to read about how Enterprise E led a special attack on the occupied Betazed system. It was defended by 2x Dominion battlecruisers, 6x Cardassian Galor cruisers, 4x Jem'Hadar attack ships. The relief battlegroup consisted of the Enterprise E and 3x Saber class escorts. The Enterprise wiped the floor with them, took out 2x galor class with a masterful alpha strike. 1 battlecruiser remained when the Defiant came to help. It was a glorious battle.
Yeah, I didn't think it was that bad looking, ...and then it split into 3 and I was, "ah, okay." Remove the 3 parts and it would be nice. Hell, even just if it split in 2 it would've looked way better.
Enterprise E really is a pure beauty. Whoever designed that deserves a raise. I didn’t think there was a way to design a new enterprise that wowed me enough but they somehow managed.
It's not very nice on the inside, though. The Galaxy was classy and felt like a fancy hotel that could still kick butt. On the defiant, you have to sleep in a wall cutout like a peasant.
@@hobomike6935 It's not designed to be classy. It's designated as a warship so think of it more along the lines of a Klingon bird of prey. Compact. Minimal crew. No civilian sectors. Limited exploration systems. It gets in, does heavy damage, and gets out. They're an excellent attack ship that are incredibly durable and pack insane firepower for their size. Defiant class ships pack as much firepower as most cruisers for their time.
I liked the defiant, i thought of it as the birdof prey for the federations. If federation coudlnt make a fully clocked vessel, i thought perhaps they created a stealth system instead.
After the odd success of the Prometheus Class there was the Antigone Class and the Oedipus Class; both of which had issues working with the other ships in the Star Fleet family.... and then , of course, There was the short lived Sisyphus Class , but Star Fleet just couldnt keep the ball rolling on that one.

Idk what to say. I might be blinded by bias since it was my first series but Voyager probably is the deadliest. It's hard to find a ship that has killed or destroyed more. And if you want to measure deadliness then you have to count the dead.

I grew up with TNG, so I'm a 1701-D man all the way. but by the time of star trek:voyager I admit the galaxy class was a bit elderly and she needed some younger, spritelier ships to step in and take the reigns. Can't have the classic ships on the front lines all the time, gotta spice things up and have variety to keep the enemy guessing.
The Prometheus brings its own swarm attack. You saw such an attack on the borg cube in first contact...multiple ships attacking all at once with different weapons probably different energy frequencies. This one ship could accomplish that ...tho I'm certain more than 1 would be needed to kill a cube. But the idea is sound with any ship especially the borg as the more damage done to weaken the ship the better.
Well, the Miranda at least had the justification of having been built as an inexpensive, Modular Jack-of-all-trades from the ground up. It was the Honda Civic of Starfleet. The Prometheus is a Lamborgini and those only last until the next model comes out and they end up as scrap being used to make more Civics.

Lambos generally last a pretty long time and are not designed to be a daily driver. Only morons use them for that. Lamborghinis are collectors items, something meant to be fast, look good and be a treasure in your collection for generations. Miranda is your grandad's ol pick-up that refuses to die, Prometheus is what happens when you let a 16 year old get a hold of a Honda Civic and some money.
The _Enterprise-D_ must have had massive amounts of automation for having only 1,000 crew. By contrast, the US Navy’s _Gerald R. Ford_ carries a crew of 2,600, and that’s _with_ our own advancements in automation. No wonder the _Enterprise_ crew gets quarters the size of a suite at the Hyatt.
Don't forget though that the Ford has to host the air and ground crews for up to 90 aircraft as well. The Enterprise-D had a few shuttles but otherwise it's crew are to fly and fight the ship alone, not the ship and a full fighter wing, an attack wing and multiple other aircraft. And the airport they all need to take off from and land on.
I remember one of the books mentions that the akira testbed ship the "Thunderchild" had something like 40 forward torpedo tubes, meaning she could empty her entire arsenal in just a handful of salvos, and that the class was never meant to enter production it was always just a one off testbed till the borg showed up. Oh and yes its a reference to the torpedo ram HMS Thunderchild from war of the worlds.

The most feared sight for me was witnessing two Constellation class starships acting as outriders and controlling a Doomsday machine into battle, in "Shattered universe." Now that's what l call a fearsome combination.
Galaxy class was feared in it's own time. I remember several TNG episodes where various factions were afraid of mere sight of Galaxy class appearing somewhere.
Heck yeah dude. those were some of the federation's finest. They weren't even equipped for battle but could still make enemies think twice about trying to push starfleet around.
I both loved that factor and also felt it limited storytelling options. The Galaxy class was the flagship, its like a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. When one of those show up it is headline news worthy. We can also point to how big of a deal it was that the Dominion destroyed one. Stuff like that is great for universe building. The problem comes when the show is centered around such a ship and you have to find new ways to create drama and have the feeling that the ship is in danger. I think TNG did fairly good job at this, but there is the trap of feeling like you always have to raise the stakes until you reach a point of absurdity and everyone is like "how did we get here?" (think ST:O and every damn SW movie lol)
@@RonJohn63 Two answers. A galaxy class was the flagship, but not all galaxy classes were flagships. Second answer, ST misuses the flagship designation. For ST what they call flagship is more of a "pride of the fleet"

My favorite description of the Enterprise was in Star Trek 3, when one of Kruge's men called the Enterprise a "Federation Battle Cruiser". Serious respect.
I'll be honest. I love the design of the Prometheus but only when it is one ship and not split into three. It splitting into three separate ships is the dumbest thing ever.

Like some other posts here, I think the Enterprise NCC-1701-D retrofitted in "ALL Good Things" was the MOST badass starship. THREE warp nacelles, Federation cloaking device, Warp 13 capable (violates Star Trek Canon BUT the episode IS alternate timeline) as well as a linear phaser canon to Ginsu slice and dice Klingon warships was AWESOME.
Warp 13 obviously could not have violated Star Trek canon for the simple fact that it occurred in a Star Trek presentation. The internal explanation is quite straightforwardm The warp factors in the original series were cubed: warp 3 is 27c (that is 27 × the speed of light), warp 6 is 216c, and the like. In TNG, with the improvements of warp technology, warp factors were measured in a logarithmic scale. In "All Good Things", Starfleet engineers simply reworked their maths (the scale in the TNG timeline had become unwieldy, with several ships reaching warp 9.66, others 9.75, and beyond) to allow for the higher integers. These in turn enabled the crews to express velocity in metrics one could understand.
Yeah, Prometheus was my favorite when I was 15. (As well as Defiant and Enterprise-E) Now I'm too close to 30, but it's still one of my favorites. Nothing changed.
I don't care about the other ships, Defiant Class all the way. ..... Admittedly, i've been playing a lot of STO so I may be biased by my ability to cloak then turn a cone of space into heavy phaser cannon death funnel while scattering several torpedoes down said death funnel.
Prometheus is one my fav because of the multi-vector assault mode. Looks dope af with a sleek design imo and I'm 33 with a master's in business administration. The Prometheus is basically a Lamborghini.
From an engineering perspective, the Prometheus was a terrible idea. Splitting into three smaller ships is asking for a collision upon reconnecting. One hack to the docking protocol and bye bye starship. Plus reconnecting all parts leaves it exposed to weapons fire from cloaked vessels. And before anyone comes at me with "You cant fire through the cloak stupid", I have but one name to invalidate that argument: Scimitar.

The way you think of the Prometheus class is what I felt about the Enterprise-E when it was introduced in the movies. I'll take my Excelsior class. Still looks the most sleek and "Federation" out there. These post Borg ships are entering into gritty dystopia design.
I reckon the Akira's deadlier than the Defiant One of it's onscreen moments was to hold off three D'Deridex class warbirds while two Defiants secure the USS Prometheus At this point in time, the D'Deridex was considered a terrifying nightmare, and one Akira was going to do a 3v1 on them
Considering its technically a carrier as well its always been my favorite non hero ship in the star trek universe with the nx01 being my favorite hero ship

@Shocky May i ask why you think so? In my opinion, the Akira-class is just the perfect embodiment of the Federation’s multi-mission ship design philosophy. Can perform all the same missions of discovery and exploration as well as any science ship. Packs one hell of a punch(15 torpedo tubes and a huge payload of torpedoes aren’t a pushover). And it’s larger-than-normal hangar bay can be very useful for transporting extra shuttles or during evacuation/humanitarian missions.
@@luisarruda3061 I'm with you, the Akira class was like the spritual Successor to the _Excelsior Class_ starships; it could be an exploratory ship, a science vessel, an attack ship, a frigate, a Medical transport, or even a Ship-of-the-Line. At it's debut, it acted as the _De-facto_ backbone of the fleets and was a straight upgrade to most of the ships currently in service that weren't brand new.
The 1701-E absolutely stunning in its design! I made many drawings of it. It made me love space combat even more in this show than I already did! I really hope that one day we will get a new Enterprise worthy of the name on the big screen.
I think the Galaxy Class would top the list of being the deadliest to its own crew. I mean one of them created a hologram capable of hijacking the ship while running an entertainment program.

Corey Micallef, I don’t think the Galaxy class, or really any particular class is the deadliest to it’s crew; I think any ship named Enterprise is by default the deadliest. Seriously, I remember that the Enterprise-D was destroyed 16 times in one TNG episode

A Defiant class would curb stomp a Miranda with spiked sole lead boot. the Miranda might be better looking, but the point of it is not to win any beauty contests when it comes to combat. Pulse Phasers, Quantum Torpedoes, Ablative Armor, high maneuverability, cloak. Give me the Sisko Pimphand ANY day of the week, versus the Miranda which seems be not much more than cannon fodder for the Dominion.
My favorite part of the episode with the Prometheus was the medical holograms muddling their way through dealing with the Romulans. The ship? Well, it's a great plot vehicle. I guess.

I loved the episode with the holograms fighting against the romulans on the prometheus. But what about the USS Titan commanded by Riker. I thought this was the ultimate badass warship in starfleet history.
I am 22 and I love the Prometheus class because it definetly looks like a tactical thought ship class made to annihilate enemies without even give them the chance to think about what ship they are facing.
Yea, I dont have much issue with how it looks, I think it actually looks pretty cool and used to be my favorite ship, but I have to say the multivector assault mode seems kind of ridiculous even from an in-universe standpoint. I get it can surprise an enemy the first time when it splits into 3 peices, but they will eventually learn of the class and its abilities. I get that it can be beneficial to do damage from multiple sides, but just as good to have 3 ships or 1 very strong ship, not both. But everyone has their opinions, and I understand why many people love it.
Although it may not have had the newer weapons or armour as your #1, The Enterprise D while equipped with the Phasing Cloaking Device has crazy potential as an offensive vessel.
I'll go one better, a meta-phasic, phase cloak. You can hide INSIDE A STAR. Warp out on an attack vector and have a plasma weapon of cosmic power... Eat that Starkiller base.

The Prometheus is a love/hate ship. I love the looks, but the multi-vector is one of the dumbest ideas ever in Star Trek. It has very few advantages and more disadvantages. But it looks so cool.

Star Trek combat is all about keeping your strongest shield segment facing the enemy... impossible to do when the enemy can split in 3. "Well, why not just build 3 Saber class ships." Because Saber class ships are slow (relatively) and short range. The Prometheus was designed for deep space tactical assignments. Overall, it's no more ridiculous than the Galaxy class "let's evacuate our civilians onto a saucer with no warp drive" seperation.
People often forget to mention the Defiant's nose warhead. I've seen it in schematics as a final chance weapon but never referenced. Has any of that changed over the years?

As the Enterprise NCC-1701 (no bloody A, B, or C) was Scotty's ship, the Enterprise NCC-1701D will always be my favorite. It was the one I grew up watching.
Great idea to bring in some star trek content. I loved all of the shows as a kid and I'd say it's as big of a part of my childhood as star wars. If you're considering making other videos of this kind I'd definitely watch them
The more holodecks a ship has, the deadlier it is, though the body count tends to be its own crew members... also, I love both the Prometheus AND your rant on why it sucks, and I don't know how to feel about that. But the Ent-E is definitely something special. On that, I think every Trek fan can agree.

In fairness the Prometheus is the "I'm so kewl" self insert ship that is the best thing ever and all that, so of course it is a terrible ship. The Yeager is an ugly bastardization of a vessel and is literally two ships slammed together to kitbash a quick background ship and because of that and the fact it isn't really meant to be anything serious, it has a charm to it.
The prometheus committed the most brazen of sins. It out shone the hero ship, which unless your shows hero ship is deliberately placed as being old or small among a larger fleet is a very poor way to introduce a ship to an audience. To show up suddenly, out perform the star ship of the show by such magnitude in short screen time is to appear every bit the fanfiction self insert character in a show where ships are main characters in their own right.
@@MediumRareOpinions Well there is something to that idea that the main ship is out of date, Voyager starts with them looking for the Maquis, it's several seasons in that they here about the Dominion war and that war was the one that forced a major rethink of the "we-don't-believe-in-warships" philosophy. At least the Scimitar seems to have been one of a kind, not streamlined for mass production. And the Borg was to be the Federation's more devastating nemesis where just the name was to put the fear of God in you with ships to match.
@@HeadlessChickenTO They truly are that frightening. The only real reason the Borg never attack in strength is distance. Their main Empire is fairly far away even at Transwarp speeds. That is warp 11 or more in TNG scale. And anytime the borg appear on screen they are destroying ships left right and center and are only really defeated by concentrated firepower or by finding a critical weakness. And the Federation rarely faces more than 1 ship at a time.

I personally disagree. I’d easily take the Defiant over Voyager. We never saw Voyager in a war scenario against enemies like the Dominion and it seemed to get torn apart against single enemies, let alone dozens. This is all opinion-based, but the Defiant is easily my favorite. Plus Kira is already on board ;)
Endgame Voyager took out a Borg cube with one torpedo, none of the ships in this list was capable of such a feature. I don't know what you guys have seen but for me this makes here way more powerful than any federation starship we have seen which is not from the future.

I really really really don't get why more cultures, civilizations, or empires even didn't put more effort into, or even bothered with looking in to the concept of drone ships, even with cyber jamming they'd be incredibly useful, especially with even a trace of AI(or Holo-AI, which apparently seems different in ST univere in its core design), or AI co-op. team...(completely automated or with just minimal, essentials only crew, just operation/mission specific deployment, it's still amazing)... I don't get it, even if there was a civilization wide ban akin to that of cloaking, still way about all those other civilizations... doesn't make any god damn sense to simply have only human piloted, manned ships inspace, you can't colonize or explore, let alone a fight a global war like that... *_just boggles my mind_*
@@alexanderzhmurov9624 - Not to get too realistic, but the simple reason only using drones is a terrible idea is that they can be co-opted. This is something that the world militaries are finding out and why more and more drones are being limited to no more than ten minutes out from a manned vehicle designated to destroy it if the self destruct doesn't work properly. The more complex the system the more exploitable that system is. To get back to Trek, think of the reprogrammed doctor on that smaller Starfleet science vessel. Now give that doctor total control of the ship or have an enemy corrupt the programming of that hologram. We can't protect today's systems from malicious hackers completely ramp that up to the complexity of Starfleet and the laws of large number come more into play. What would a Harry Mudd type do if he had control of a planet of androids, instead of the other way around? What would the Dominion do?
Can you imagine how much waste there would be on a Prometheus? Now some redundancy in systems is a good thing, the prometheus takes this too far however, but even if we leave that aside. All that extra armour needing to cover the seperated ships just makes it an idea that should have never left the bar over at Starfleet Engineering.

For my taste the "Wells Class" (Relativity) is the most deadliest ship in Star Trek at the time. 1. Speed of more than warp 9.9 2. Can travel through the time to destroy ships and civilications at beginning.
Don't mix up cool with deadly, Defiant class ships are over rated & actually smaller in comparison to other ships then they are portrayed on screen. As Riker said it's "A tough little ship" & fits the role of escort but when compared to the raw power of something like an Akira or Sovereign its no match, even a modified Excelsior was a match for it. Its good for what it is but like all "hero" ships in star trek its shown to always perform better then it should.
@@HereticDuo The Defiant class is more of a destroyer i.e over gunned for it's size and hunts in packs where it's combined fire power is something more powerful than a battleship, so a Sovereign class would fall very quickly to 5x Defiant class ships (equivalent of mass). Yeah you are more than likely gonna loose a Defiant or 2 which is 50-100 crew lost but they will chew through the shields of the Sovereign class and cause massive damage in a single combined attack run resulting in killing 850+ crew. Sovereign has 12x phaser arrays and 6x quantum torpedo tubes vs a a combat group of 5x Defiant's combined 20x phaser cannons, 15x phaser arrays and 15x quantum torpedo tubes. So yeah although 1 on 1 it would loose but it's an escort warship and as such will be in groups. They are way smaller in size and far more manoeuvrable making it harder to target and hit resulting in missed shots and thus a drop off in it's fire power vs these smaller craft while the combined Defiant's has 2.5-3x more firepower. Hardly a surprise really comparing a heavy cruiser research ship vs smaller dedicated warships.
I would rather something larger for a long haul trip. I reckon the toilets would get a bit cramped and smelly in the Defiant :~D And everyone would catch each others gastro
@@HereticDuo You're missing the advantages of the Defiant's size, namely it's extremely maneuverable (and harder to target) and based on it's size, immensely powerful. And as far as 'raw power' goes-whatever that means-few Federation ships match the Defiant class.

The Defiant was the closest thing Starfleet came to making a fighter. For a great war party: For every other warship, you also have 2 Defiants. Make the enemy shit bricks, then eat said bricks. I like the design of the Prometheus, it just looks awesome! But yeah, the 'multi-vector' mode is ridiculous.

I would agree as far as prime timeline cannon ships go. However this beautiful line from spacedock may not full account for the adolescent my ship's "equipment" is bigger than yours, that is embodied in two other ships. USS Vengeance from the Kelvin time line and or the hero ship from the fan made Rennegade movie. Both ships felt like over powered testosterone compensating fever dreams of insecure 15 year olds traped inside of 45 years olds, In my opinion at least.
I sort of have the same feelings as for the Defiant, it was the original overhyped -in-power ship (like star wars vVenator, people buff it cause they thought it looked cool when they were young). But yeah, the Prometheus one upped it.

Fun Facts: Akira class ships (while never shown on screen) were designed to not only be a formidable warship on its own, but it was suppose to be a carrier - having a huge hangar that spanned the length of the saucer section filled with fighters. The Akira class design was actually created BEFORE the NX Enterprise design and because fans loved the design of the Akira class - it became the basis of the NX design, which is why they look so similar.
The akira is kinda amazing. They went "Oh no we need real warships now" and some crazy motherfucker sitting in the corner, waiting his entire career went "Fucking finally". And busted out the most ridiculously excessive design possible and named it after an anime. - someone on discord

Maybe Booster Demon is trying to infer that the Akira is formidable, but that formidability trait is not shown properly on screen, and neither its fighter complement. It’s shown exploding, or just firing some phasers and photon torps, that’s all. We can’t really see how good this ship truly is

In my teenage mind, after seeing the E swoop in and save the Defiant in First contact and seeing the size difference, I was like the ultimate ship would be a Sovereign Class with a defiant class embedded in its hall as a captain’s yacht.
That's almost exactly what the Star Trek Online MMO came up with for the Enterprise F. It's a bigger, rounder Sovereign-inspired design with a Defiant-sized escort docked to the back where the shuttlebay usually is.
@@SabertoothSeal yeah the Odyssey class. honestly i love it. the Odyssey class was supposed to be a return to scientific exploration, but tempered by the federations reality check of three major wars practically back to back. she doesnt have as many phaser strips or torpedo launchers as the Sovereign, but what she lacks in number she gains in power. she has a couple different docking bays for shuttle craft, and of course the Aquarius class escort docked in her stern. however, she is also bloody massive, doesnt turn very well, and even though her shields are incredibly strong that alone puts her at a disadvantage; hence the Escort.

Just remember that the Defiant had been trading blows with the cube for at least an hour before the Enterprise showed up. I honestly think its a tie between the Enterprise E and the Defiant for deadliest.
One of my favorite moments in Star Trek is watching the Defiant go up against the Borg cube and then suddenly the Enterprise E warps in right in front of it and takes the brunt of a few shots for it. Such a great shot for conveying the size of the Sovereign class. And what a beautiful ship it is. Somehow the designers managed to make it stunningly sleek and beautiful.

I agree it looks cool, and I do oddly like it, but its trash in my honest opinion. Has no business being a Federation Starship. It wasn't even the ship that the original drafts of First Contact called for. In them, the Enterprise-E had at least 47 decks, but the Sovereign class has only 29. And one thing that I don't get about post Roddenberry death TNG era ships is why the hell was there no neck between the secondary hull and saucer, and why are they so _sleek_ looking?? Honestly, these are Space Ships! They don't need to be aerodynamic! 🙄
@@pepperVenge Since when does every Roddenberry era starship have a neck? Also, we know from multiple episodes that there can be turbulence in warp so "aerodynamic" makes absolute sense. I guess a better word would be streamlined. As the Federation advances its knowledge of warp drive and how warp works it makes complete sense for them to update and revise their designs for ships. Just like cars on Earth have changed design to reduce drag and increase fuel efficiency as we have learned more about fluid dynamics.
And now we get into the truly pointless. Who cares what the original draft wanted. If we're going to go by the original draft of everything then Star Trek is going to look VERY different. And I'm talking Roddenberry era here. There's a reason it's called a draft. What has deck count got to do with anything? The Federation builds starships to fulfill a role. In the post Borg invasion era the Federation needs a flagship that is less family and research vessel and much more actual battle capable. You want maneuverability (means smaller). You want something that doesn't present a massive target, means compact and smaller (removing the neck removes an obvious weak point and presents a lower profile), etc. There are literally dozens of real world reasons why the ship was redesigned the way it was within the fictional world. I get it, you like the neck.. but the Federation have to live within their reality, and this represents an evolution of design thought based on the needs of the Federation and the realities they face.
@@mycroft16 What do you mean _since when_ does every Roddenberry ships have a neck? Every ship with the classic Starfleet design (i.e. the design of the original Enterprise) had a neck before Roddenberry died. TOS Enterprise, and Enterprises A threw D had necks. As well as any ship that employed the classic Starfleet design. Even the Nebula class had a neck, though small, it was able to separate its saucer from it.
Regarding aerodynamics in space: First of all, why does a space fairing vehicle need to be aerodynamic if 1) theres no air in space, 2) it has a main deflector that removes objects from its path, even microscopic, and even at warp, and 3) is capable of controlled decent in planetary atmosphere's -- it doesn't just fall with style the NASA shuttles did.
Can you prove that a starship has to be aerodynamic to be able to propel to faster warp velocities, because that makes sense in an atmosphere, but physics in space is very different. Especially physics involved in faster then light travel.
There is nothing in the way to create resistance. At least not in the way of air. There is plenty of stress put unto the hull do to E=MC2, but that is the point of the Warp Bubble; it makes the ship lighter so that it can travel faster then light.
All an object needs is a deflector and a warp drive to be able to go to warp and avoid warp stress. You should probably read up on this.
Further; I have to ask you to demonstrate where you got the idea that Aerodynamics is necessary for faster warp velocities. The Enterprise D, a Galaxy Class ship, is certainly not aerodynamic, but the Galaxy Class can go just as fast as the Sovereign class (as of 2377). But even its 2364 speed of warp 9.6 is still virtually the same speed as warp 9.9. The former would just be a few minutes behind. Your claim sounds made up.
On the design of the Enterprise E; the writers (Moore and Braga) were very disappointing when the model for the E was released. They had to rewrite their script to fit the smaller ship as their script called for a much larger ship, but the production team either ignored them or didn't listen to the script well enough. I like it still, though I think its portrayal in Message in a Bottle is pretty overpowered. I flew around in it using STO but...it was just FUN.
I like how it looks combined, the multi-vector assault mode is a huge waste of resources. You could build three smaller ships, each just as powerful, but instead you sink in not one, not two, but THREE warp cores into this thing.
I'm safe, we only had the original Star Trek when I was 15.

@@neighbor18 I think that's the old warp standard. I think that in-universe the Federation re-designated Warp 10 as the top possible speed. Warp 10 meaning you're moving so fast that you effectively exist at every point space simultaneously.

The Dreadnought was an interesting design choice. Aside from sporting cloaking tech its primary weapon was devastating and then some. Imagine if they managed to shrink that down to phaser bank size or phaser cannon operable. Honestly I'm surprised the Federation doesn't have some sort of dedicated missile boat. Something with extreme range that can just hammer the daylights of whatever pisses them off that day.
The Dreadnought is my favorite ship from all Star Trek universes and timelines. If it was in the Prime timeline it would've been the first purpose built warship as well as the first purpose built heavy warship. It had it all speed, maneuverability, too many weapons (which is a good thing) and as you mentioned the cloaking device. She truly was a beauty.

The _Akira_ class easily tops the list of Starfleet ships with _fifteen_ independent torpedo launchers (but oddly only five phaser strips). Alex Jaeger literally designed it for _ST First Contact_ as a torpedo boat mixed with a spacecraft carrier (though we never saw the forward-facing launch bays in use nor what types of fighter craft they carried).

@@Forevermist From how I understand the lore, it was basically agreed upon that the species allied with Earth after the Romulan War that they would pool all of their technologies together when building starships, with the Vulcan Navy, the Andorian guard, and similar agencies of member Federation worlds being folded into Starfleet, because Earth was chosen as the Federation capitol since, it was Earth that helped form the coalition of races that halted the Romulan advance and the stabilization of the region. It was agreed upon to generally use Starfleet ship designs, but you often see and hear of starship designs by other races in Starfleet when sifting through lore, or ships entirely cured by a race that's not humans such as the USS T'Kumbra which is crewed entirely by Vulcans. and when going through the movies and series as a whole you'll bump into the complaint that Starfleet and the Federation often seems to be human centric. In essence, it's a little bit more complicated and nuanced.

It’s introduction was great. They just kinda had it slowly ease up into view, it was reminiscent of Star Trek: the motion picture where the shuttle slowly brings the ship into frame, without the 10 minute cut of showing it from different angles

I totally share your sentiment about the majestic Sovereign class. Just wanted to provide some more insight into her awesome power. In the book "Battle of Betazed" we get to read about how Enterprise E led a special attack on the occupied Betazed system. It was defended by 2x Dominion battlecruisers, 6x Cardassian Galor cruisers, 4x Jem'Hadar attack ships. The relief battlegroup consisted of the Enterprise E and 3x Saber class escorts. The Enterprise wiped the floor with them, took out 2x galor class with a masterful alpha strike. 1 battlecruiser remained when the Defiant came to help. It was a glorious battle.
That sounds like a huge exaggeration of the ship strength though (by the book). Not backed up by anything seen on screen.

Enterprise E really is a pure beauty. Whoever designed that deserves a raise. I didn’t think there was a way to design a new enterprise that wowed me enough but they somehow managed.

Facts. In stop never upgraded ships once I got my Defiant class. Flew around in it till the end of the Ikonian war.
@@hobomike6935 It's not designed to be classy. It's designated as a warship so think of it more along the lines of a Klingon bird of prey. Compact. Minimal crew. No civilian sectors. Limited exploration systems. It gets in, does heavy damage, and gets out. They're an excellent attack ship that are incredibly durable and pack insane firepower for their size. Defiant class ships pack as much firepower as most cruisers for their time.
I liked the defiant, i thought of it as the birdof prey for the federations. If federation coudlnt make a fully clocked vessel, i thought perhaps they created a stealth system instead.

After the odd success of the Prometheus Class there was the Antigone Class and the Oedipus Class; both of which had issues working with the other ships in the Star Fleet family.... and then , of course, There was the short lived Sisyphus Class , but Star Fleet just couldnt keep the ball rolling on that one.
Then of course was the Tantalus Class, which could never quite reach its design goals...

Also, Seven of Nine helped in integrating Borg technology into Voyager which made it a hybrid, more oriented towards battle than exploration.
Idk what to say. I might be blinded by bias since it was my first series but Voyager probably is the deadliest. It's hard to find a ship that has killed or destroyed more. And if you want to measure deadliness then you have to count the dead.

I grew up with TNG, so I'm a 1701-D man all the way.
but by the time of star trek:voyager I admit the galaxy class was a bit elderly and she needed some younger, spritelier ships to step in and take the reigns. Can't have the classic ships on the front lines all the time, gotta spice things up and have variety to keep the enemy guessing.
The Prometheus brings its own swarm attack. You saw such an attack on the borg cube in first contact...multiple ships attacking all at once with different weapons probably different energy frequencies. This one ship could accomplish that ...tho I'm certain more than 1 would be needed to kill a cube. But the idea is sound with any ship especially the borg as the more damage done to weaken the ship the better.

Well, the Miranda at least had the justification of having been built as an inexpensive, Modular Jack-of-all-trades from the ground up. It was the Honda Civic of Starfleet. The Prometheus is a Lamborgini and those only last until the next model comes out and they end up as scrap being used to make more Civics.

Lambos generally last a pretty long time and are not designed to be a daily driver. Only morons use them for that. Lamborghinis are collectors items, something meant to be fast, look good and be a treasure in your collection for generations.

The _Enterprise-D_ must have had massive amounts of automation for having only 1,000 crew. By contrast, the US Navy’s _Gerald R. Ford_ carries a crew of 2,600, and that’s _with_ our own advancements in automation. No wonder the _Enterprise_ crew gets quarters the size of a suite at the Hyatt.
Don't forget though that the Ford has to host the air and ground crews for up to 90 aircraft as well. The Enterprise-D had a few shuttles but otherwise it's crew are to fly and fight the ship alone, not the ship and a full fighter wing, an attack wing and multiple other aircraft. And the airport they all need to take off from and land on.
I remember one of the books mentions that the akira testbed ship the "Thunderchild" had something like 40 forward torpedo tubes, meaning she could empty her entire arsenal in just a handful of salvos, and that the class was never meant to enter production it was always just a one off testbed till the borg showed up. Oh and yes its a reference to the torpedo ram HMS Thunderchild from war of the worlds.

The most feared sight for me was witnessing two Constellation class starships acting as outriders and controlling a Doomsday machine into battle, in "Shattered universe." Now that's what l call a fearsome combination.

Galaxy class was feared in it's own time. I remember several TNG episodes where various factions were afraid of mere sight of Galaxy class appearing somewhere.
Heck yeah dude. those were some of the federation's finest. They weren't even equipped for battle but could still make enemies think twice about trying to push starfleet around.
I both loved that factor and also felt it limited storytelling options. The Galaxy class was the flagship, its like a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. When one of those show up it is headline news worthy. We can also point to how big of a deal it was that the Dominion destroyed one. Stuff like that is great for universe building.
The problem comes when the show is centered around such a ship and you have to find new ways to create drama and have the feeling that the ship is in danger. I think TNG did fairly good job at this, but there is the trap of feeling like you always have to raise the stakes until you reach a point of absurdity and everyone is like "how did we get here?" (think ST:O and every damn SW movie lol)

My favorite description of the Enterprise was in Star Trek 3, when one of Kruge's men called the Enterprise a "Federation Battle Cruiser". Serious respect.
That's was in the 23rd century when even a Ferengi cruiser could be considered as a "battle cruiser".
I'll be honest. I love the design of the Prometheus but only when it is one ship and not split into three. It splitting into three separate ships is the dumbest thing ever.

Like some other posts here, I think the Enterprise NCC-1701-D retrofitted in "ALL Good Things" was the MOST badass starship. THREE warp nacelles, Federation cloaking device, Warp 13 capable (violates Star Trek Canon BUT the episode IS alternate timeline) as well as a linear phaser canon to Ginsu slice and dice Klingon warships was AWESOME.
Warp 13 obviously could not have violated Star Trek canon for the simple fact that it occurred in a Star Trek presentation. The internal explanation is quite straightforwardm The warp factors in the original series were cubed: warp 3 is 27c (that is 27 × the speed of light), warp 6 is 216c, and the like. In TNG, with the improvements of warp technology, warp factors were measured in a logarithmic scale. In "All Good Things", Starfleet engineers simply reworked their maths (the scale in the TNG timeline had become unwieldy, with several ships reaching warp 9.66, others 9.75, and beyond) to allow for the higher integers. These in turn enabled the crews to express velocity in metrics one could understand.

From an engineering perspective, the Prometheus was a terrible idea. Splitting into three smaller ships is asking for a collision upon reconnecting. One hack to the docking protocol and bye bye starship. Plus reconnecting all parts leaves it exposed to weapons fire from cloaked vessels. And before anyone comes at me with "You cant fire through the cloak stupid", I have but one name to invalidate that argument: Scimitar.

The way you think of the Prometheus class is what I felt about the Enterprise-E when it was introduced in the movies. I'll take my Excelsior class. Still looks the most sleek and "Federation" out there. These post Borg ships are entering into gritty dystopia design.

One of it's onscreen moments was to hold off three D'Deridex class warbirds while two Defiants secure the USS Prometheus
At this point in time, the D'Deridex was considered a terrifying nightmare, and one Akira was going to do a 3v1 on them

@Shocky May i ask why you think so? In my opinion, the Akira-class is just the perfect embodiment of the Federation’s multi-mission ship design philosophy. Can perform all the same missions of discovery and exploration as well as any science ship. Packs one hell of a punch(15 torpedo tubes and a huge payload of torpedoes aren’t a pushover). And it’s larger-than-normal hangar bay can be very useful for transporting extra shuttles or during evacuation/humanitarian missions.
@@luisarruda3061 I'm with you, the Akira class was like the spritual Successor to the _Excelsior Class_ starships; it could be an exploratory ship, a science vessel, an attack ship, a frigate, a Medical transport, or even a Ship-of-the-Line.
At it's debut, it acted as the _De-facto_ backbone of the fleets and was a straight upgrade to most of the ships currently in service that weren't brand new.

The 1701-E absolutely stunning in its design! I made many drawings of it. It made me love space combat even more in this show than I already did! I really hope that one day we will get a new Enterprise worthy of the name on the big screen.

I loved the episode with the holograms fighting against the romulans on the prometheus. But what about the USS Titan commanded by Riker. I thought this was the ultimate badass warship in starfleet history.

I am 22 and I love the Prometheus class because it definetly looks like a tactical thought ship class made to annihilate enemies without even give them the chance to think about what ship they are facing.

Yea, I dont have much issue with how it looks, I think it actually looks pretty cool and used to be my favorite ship, but I have to say the multivector assault mode seems kind of ridiculous even from an in-universe standpoint. I get it can surprise an enemy the first time when it splits into 3 peices, but they will eventually learn of the class and its abilities. I get that it can be beneficial to do damage from multiple sides, but just as good to have 3 ships or 1 very strong ship, not both. But everyone has their opinions, and I understand why many people love it.
Although it may not have had the newer weapons or armour as your #1, The Enterprise D while equipped with the Phasing Cloaking Device has crazy potential as an offensive vessel.
I'll go one better, a meta-phasic, phase cloak. You can hide INSIDE A STAR.
Warp out on an attack vector and have a plasma weapon of cosmic power...

The Prometheus is a love/hate ship. I love the looks, but the multi-vector is one of the dumbest ideas ever in Star Trek. It has very few advantages and more disadvantages. But it looks so cool.
I find it would look better without the vectoring and with only 2 nacelles. otherwise its not bad looking

Because Saber class ships are slow (relatively) and short range. The Prometheus was designed for deep space tactical assignments.
Overall, it's no more ridiculous than the Galaxy class "let's evacuate our civilians onto a saucer with no warp drive" seperation.
People often forget to mention the Defiant's nose warhead. I've seen it in schematics as a final chance weapon but never referenced. Has any of that changed over the years?

My personal favorite looking ship is the Excelsior NCC-2000.
Me too. It was sleek, but overly sleek - as if it were designed in a wind tunnel. It stylistically bridged the gap between TOS and TNG eras.

The Sovereign, Defiant, Akira, Constitution-Refit, and Excelsior classes are my favorites.
As the Enterprise NCC-1701 (no bloody A, B, or C) was Scotty's ship, the Enterprise NCC-1701D will always be my favorite. It was the one I grew up watching.

Great idea to bring in some star trek content. I loved all of the shows as a kid and I'd say it's as big of a part of my childhood as star wars. If you're considering making other videos of this kind I'd definitely watch them
I’m just gonna say it: Andy Dick was the EMH on the Prometheus and that alone makes it questionably canon at best.

The more holodecks a ship has, the deadlier it is, though the body count tends to be its own crew members... also, I love both the Prometheus AND your rant on why it sucks, and I don't know how to feel about that. But the Ent-E is definitely something special. On that, I think every Trek fan can agree.

In fairness the Prometheus is the "I'm so kewl" self insert ship that is the best thing ever and all that, so of course it is a terrible ship. The Yeager is an ugly bastardization of a vessel and is literally two ships slammed together to kitbash a quick background ship and because of that and the fact it isn't really meant to be anything serious, it has a charm to it.

The prometheus committed the most brazen of sins.
It out shone the hero ship, which unless your shows hero ship is deliberately placed as being old or small among a larger fleet is a very poor way to introduce a ship to an audience.
To show up suddenly, out perform the star ship of the show by such magnitude in short screen time is to appear every bit the fanfiction self insert character in a show where ships are main characters in their own right.
@@MediumRareOpinions Well there is something to that idea that the main ship is out of date, Voyager starts with them looking for the Maquis, it's several seasons in that they here about the Dominion war and that war was the one that forced a major rethink of the "we-don't-believe-in-warships" philosophy.
So actually I think it's acceptable to have the Prometheus be better than Voyager.

If i remember correctly, the only thing worse for sheer firepower were Borg ships.
At least the Scimitar seems to have been one of a kind, not streamlined for mass production. And the Borg was to be the Federation's more devastating nemesis where just the name was to put the fear of God in you with ships to match.
@@HeadlessChickenTO They truly are that frightening. The only real reason the Borg never attack in strength is distance. Their main Empire is fairly far away even at Transwarp speeds. That is warp 11 or more in TNG scale.
And anytime the borg appear on screen they are destroying ships left right and center and are only really defeated by concentrated firepower or by finding a critical weakness. And the Federation rarely faces more than 1 ship at a time.

I personally disagree. I’d easily take the Defiant over Voyager.
We never saw Voyager in a war scenario against enemies like the Dominion and it seemed to get torn apart against single enemies, let alone dozens.
This is all opinion-based, but the Defiant is easily my favorite. Plus Kira is already on board ;)
Endgame Voyager took out a Borg cube with one torpedo, none of the ships in this list was capable of such a feature. I don't know what you guys have seen but for me this makes here way more powerful than any federation starship we have seen which is not from the future.
This crossover was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

I really really really don't get why more cultures, civilizations, or empires even didn't put more effort into, or even bothered with looking in to the concept of drone ships,
even with cyber jamming they'd be incredibly useful, especially with even a trace of AI(or Holo-AI, which apparently seems different in ST univere in its core design), or AI co-op. team...(completely automated or with just minimal, essentials only crew, just operation/mission specific deployment, it's still amazing)... I don't get it, even if there was a civilization wide ban akin to that of cloaking, still way about all those other civilizations... doesn't make any god damn sense to simply have only human piloted, manned ships inspace, you can't colonize or explore, let alone a fight a global war like that... *_just boggles my mind_*
@@alexanderzhmurov9624 - Not to get too realistic, but the simple reason only using drones is a terrible idea is that they can be co-opted. This is something that the world militaries are finding out and why more and more drones are being limited to no more than ten minutes out from a manned vehicle designated to destroy it if the self destruct doesn't work properly. The more complex the system the more exploitable that system is. To get back to Trek, think of the reprogrammed doctor on that smaller Starfleet science vessel. Now give that doctor total control of the ship or have an enemy corrupt the programming of that hologram. We can't protect today's systems from malicious hackers completely ramp that up to the complexity of Starfleet and the laws of large number come more into play. What would a Harry Mudd type do if he had control of a planet of androids, instead of the other way around? What would the Dominion do?
Can you imagine how much waste there would be on a Prometheus? Now some redundancy in systems is a good thing, the prometheus takes this too far however, but even if we leave that aside. All that extra armour needing to cover the seperated ships just makes it an idea that should have never left the bar over at Starfleet Engineering.

For my taste the "Wells Class" (Relativity) is the most deadliest ship in Star Trek at the time.

2. Can travel through the time to destroy ships and civilications at beginning.
DS9 is my favorite series, so I will take the Defiant over anything else the Federation has made.
Don't mix up cool with deadly, Defiant class ships are over rated & actually smaller in comparison to other ships then they are portrayed on screen.
As Riker said it's "A tough little ship" & fits the role of escort but when compared to the raw power of something like an Akira or Sovereign its no match, even a modified Excelsior was a match for it.
Its good for what it is but like all "hero" ships in star trek its shown to always perform better then it should.
@@HereticDuo The Defiant class is more of a destroyer i.e over gunned for it's size and hunts in packs where it's combined fire power is something more powerful than a battleship, so a Sovereign class would fall very quickly to 5x Defiant class ships (equivalent of mass). Yeah you are more than likely gonna loose a Defiant or 2 which is 50-100 crew lost but they will chew through the shields of the Sovereign class and cause massive damage in a single combined attack run resulting in killing 850+ crew.
Sovereign has 12x phaser arrays and 6x quantum torpedo tubes vs a a combat group of 5x Defiant's combined 20x phaser cannons, 15x phaser arrays and 15x quantum torpedo tubes. So yeah although 1 on 1 it would loose but it's an escort warship and as such will be in groups. They are way smaller in size and far more manoeuvrable making it harder to target and hit resulting in missed shots and thus a drop off in it's fire power vs these smaller craft while the combined Defiant's has 2.5-3x more firepower.
Hardly a surprise really comparing a heavy cruiser research ship vs smaller dedicated warships.
I would rather something larger for a long haul trip. I reckon the toilets would get a bit cramped and smelly in the Defiant :~D And everyone would catch each others gastro

The Defiant was the closest thing Starfleet came to making a fighter. For a great war party: For every other warship, you also have 2 Defiants. Make the enemy shit bricks, then eat said bricks.
