      I'm so glad they gave DBs some of the QOL they had in old gen back. For some reason, they decided to neuter the heck out of Archdemon mode after you've filled the bar by removing the demon dash even when you're out of demon mode. It's back in Rise and that makes me SO happy. DBs were never a main weapon of mine, but I'm competent with every weapon type, but in World, DBs were the only weapon that actually felt bad to me. They're back again in Rise and I couldn't be happier for them.

      @@JpegDog even masters of weapons learn new stuff. After the combo which ends with a clutchclae grab, if you miss you can deacticate demonmode and carry on as normal faster than de-activating demonmode. And lasts less long than doing the clutch claw grab (only to miss) and stand there looking at your arm like a yain-kut-ku.

    Yes. You get it. I am sharing this video with EVERYBODY lol
    I've often compared learning the combat of Monster Hunter to learning a musical instrument, as odd as that comparison is. Because when you first start, you SUCK. Nothing is what you're used to and it feels weird and clunky and you can't do anything right and even the simplest things are a struggle. But if you just put your head down and keep going eventually you will get better, and better, and then. THEN. You make MAGIC. And that magic is so, SO worth it.

    I remember when I first got the 3DL MHG edition, I bought the game based on a person who said it was very addictive. As soon as I loaded up the game I was so confused and I hated it. It wasn’t until MHGU on Switch and lots of Gaijin’s videos later which I got hooked. And then I started watching your videos and I’m a complete convert. This is a great game.

  • @akaimizu1

    Very nice introduction. I'm not a beginner, but I'm loving the points you covered here. Back at the end of Gen 1, I felt that us in the West had a serious disadvantage when it came to *getting * into Monster Hunter. There were the few who got into it almost right away, but most of us didn't have a friend or some easy method to be tutored by another, in the game. That usually often meant that our first MH game we didn't really enjoy. For me, my initial taste was Freedom 1, but I didn't get hooked into MH until Freedom 2.
    I figured it would be a bigger struggle to learn the ins and outs going solo, back in the day. This is one of the reasons why I remember I was super hyped when MH Tri was coming out. Mostly because being the first online capable MH, specifically on a system with it built in (PS2 required extra optional hardware to play online), it meant that finally, the west would have more access to hunters who could tutor new players. It's so much easier to see the magic when you work with an experienced player as the game itself wasn't great at weening in new players. Not unless you fight, and fight, and lose, and persevere until the systems sink in; and sadly, for many of us, that didn't happen with the first game we played.
    Videos like this, as well as having a good community to help out, is what really helps alleviate that (first MH game experience) hurdle. Thanks for that.

      I actually stayed away from DB for a long time because of this. I wanted to slash like a madman, but the weapon actually has a surprising amount of animation locking that will kill you if you slash too madly. I got way more comfortable with them recently, but it's a quite fascinating weapon because of said animation locks.

    • @mhk6943
      @mhk6943 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@justsomejojo Yes the lock animations surprised me when I first tried Dual Blades. So you can't just be a Mad man as you'll still have to learn the monsters moves to avoid getting hit.

    I've played most Monster Hunters released on nintendo hardware since Tri on the Wii. this is the first game where the gameplay actually clicked and i know what i am doing(mostly) i am so glad i gave it another chance after deleting the demo after 20mins. Not using a big slow weapon, and reading all the popups, and playing the tutorials helped me more in this game than in any other! now i will try and learn the traps, and more difficult weapons than double blade, or sword and shield

    I remember the first time I started with MHW, my first game, I hated the beginning as I was unable to do anything effectively, but few months later in and loved the game. Now I just got into Rise, after a year of not playing any MH game, picking right where I left and immediately starting with charge blade. The first few fights were clunky because I couldn't remember the exact controls, just few basic mechanics, but after few hunts it came all back up to me like riding a bicycle. And while I was switching between the weapons only 2 really feels natural to me, charge blade and switch axe, the others just don't feel that enjoyable. I still remember facing Anjanath and Rathian for the first few times in MHW, I hated those fights, I couldn't do them alone, but then in Rise I almost felt sorry for them because they got beaten almost instantly without too much effort, so your comment about muscle memory is just spot on.

    I was introduced to MH on FU, I was 8 at the time, 21 now, and played it on my friends psp. I loved it instantly, was my introduction into RPGs as well. I didn't actually own my own MH game until world cause I could never afford a ds. So when I played GU and saw the monster I was introduced too I was like oh hey! So it's always fun to hear stories from those who are new. Who have no prior experience with a monster hunter game. Even though im not a beginner, I still loved the video. I look forward to the podcast every week.

  • @11amasuperboy
    @11amasuperboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One of my favorite things about MH has been the hidden "endemic mechanics" to some of the monsters. Like if you're hunting a Rathian instead of chasing it down go find the wyvern egg nest. If you pick up an egg the Rathian (and I think the Rathalos, too) will come to you. When you've beaten it enough and it leaves the area just pick up another egg and the Rathian will come back to you. This can be exploited even outside of "egg quests". The monster Plesioth in the older games liked to just hang out in water where you can't get at it (unless you're playing 3U but hey water mechanics). There's always a gathering patch near where the Plesioth is that you can gather frogs from and then you can use the frog as fishing bait to pull it out of the water in a downed state rather than waiting for it to come out on it's own accord.
    Even the hidden tricks when it comes to hunting certain monsters were awesome like breaking the Tigrex's claws would make it stumble whenever it tried to change directions after a charge. The old monster Nibblesnarf would hide under the sand and attack you before diving back under the sand as though it was water. When it charges around it does so with its mouth open so if you do it right you can trick it into swallowing a barrel bomb which would then blow it up and knock it out. You could then use your fishing pole to pull it out of the sand to extend its knocked down status and get at other breakable parts. Most of the older monsters have these weird hidden mechanics and it was always fun to exploit them.

    I can't tell you how many hours in Tri I went out without eating when I started out. It was at least until the Lagiacrus repel quest. Such an important thing to mention imo. Back when I started, my most recent "eat for combat" game were the Tales of Games where it isn't required. In MH, it definitely IS required.
    In 9 years of playing, I only got to full comfort (as in, this feels like home and I can do everything) in 2, maaaaybe 3 weapons. I can play most on a very basic level, but only Switch Axe and Gunlance (specifically the World revision) REALLY carved themselves into my muscle memory and (old) Hunting Horn is kinda close to that. This is obviously different for everybody, but expect tons of hours of learning and getting comfortable with your weapons. If that excites you, you'll love MH.

    A great introduction to Monster Hunter! All I knew about it was from the demo of HM Rise but now I think I know what to expect and I really like it! The main reason for me to get into this game was a great deal of challenge and an amazing feeling of acomplishment I experienced in the demo. I really hope that a full game will keep these impressions on me, but the perspective of various quests, gathering, crafting and preparing a different gear setups is very appealing too!

    Thanks! This was a very good video. I have a couple of friends that I've been trying to get to play Rise and MH in general. But they have been a little reluctant for the many reasons that you've addressed in this video (that I too felt when first playing MH freedom unite). I love how you tell the viewers to hold on with the game. That it needs some time for everything to click and for the game to reveal how much fun it can be. I will share your video with them in the hope that they could be intrigued enough to give it a real try.
    Keep up the very good work and thx again.

    When I tried to get into monster hunter world one of my friends threw me into the deep end and did not teach me anything at all and that was probably the worst introduction to a monster hunter game I’ve ever had. I dropped it but decided to pick it back up and learn and I enjoyed it a lot and decided to play the psp games as well since I had found my old psp in a container. Gotta say the psp games are hell but they help a lot with learning mechanics. Now I’m playing rise and I enjoy this series a lot.

    Thanks for the great advice, Rurikhan.
    As someone who's planning on getting into the series with Rise after having a lot of fun experimenting with all of the weapons/play-styles in the demo, this really helped me to better understand what makes Monster Hunter so great.
    P.S.
    While I've been interested in the series since learning of its existence via Tri's debut trailer, I never got around to actually buying a Monster Hunter game due to how daunting it looked (also didn't like the 3DS control setup for 3U + 4U, not to mention getting caught between a Barioth and a loading zone multiple times in Gen Ultimate's demo...) and while I'm still planning on getting MH World solely because of what I've seen & heard of Iceborne's hub, I don't have the tech needed to even run the game.
