What the unexpected can bring 😊 and as with embrace the stink well then rejoice when good things are a surprise gift of the day. I almost missed watching this posting so I guess I will rejoice in this offering … thank you Mothers & Little Bear. ❤😊
Left after 1200 and still made over 11 miles on a wet slippery trail.
You ladies did well!
Thanks for taking us along.😊
Beautiful views and a fun ending! Psalm 3:3 “But You, oh Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” Provider! 🙌🙏💪🥾
Amen 🙏🏼 💙
What a good surprisingly day!
Go Mama Bear & Little Bear Go!
👟🐻🐻👍🏼
Little Bear’s most difficult decision each day is when to stop eating.
😂
Go Little Bear go!
When your tent is secure with no leaks, the sound of rain dropping against the canvas is the most relaxing sound I know...puts me right to sleep. Wise descisions were made to stay put. Loved the silent communication between you two when you were thinking about Laurel Hostel! lol Hike on Bears! Cheering you onward!
Lil Bear was eyeing that cupcake like she was going to take your hand off😂
😂
What a great surprise and ending for the day. 👍👍
I love your necklace. It looks like it has a Native American medicine wheel around the edges with the colors.
Wm. Stands for William.
Beautiful scenery today
Hiking Dancer/Road Runner did a shout out to you ladies on her Day 25 PCT video. 😊
Awesome! Thank you. We love Roadrunner. Looking forward to watching her videos when we get home.
I don’t know of anyone who has hiked the AT and not fallen! The great thing is that you both have done well and not been injured! Always stay vigilant, careful and chosen footing and put phone away when the trail requires it!
Thanks
Your positivity is wonderful and contagious! Thank you for that! Rest up and over the mountain tomorrow!
For just getting started at 12:30, you two put in some great miles today!! Way to go!!
inspiring. ❤❤
Little Bears eyes and face said it all when she saw that hostel sign! Another awesome video!
You are both very blessed! ❤ I am grateful you had a surprise and safe ending to the day! 🥰🥰
Yes! Thank you!
Such a wonderful magical end to your day! Pizza, showers and a warm bed! I LOVE the fog! Made for some incredible photos! Nice and creepy! ❤ Thank you for taking us along on your adventures 🥾 ❤️ 🥾
Thank you for sharing about the strength of being flexible and the many benefits of making healthy choices
Love youuuu!! 💙💙💙
Stayed there in 22, i was the only one there. Hidden gem!
Great day. Resting in the tent listening to the rain. Beautiful scenery. I like the little hostel. I recall having seen it before. Y’all are doing amazing.
Thank you! 🙏🏼 💙
Sometimes the best days are the unexpected surprises! 😊
What an interesting day! I’m glad ya didn’t see any zombies in that fog! 😂 Hopefully the hiker who fell isn’t hurting too much.
I hope you girls rested well after having pizza and a shower. It was pretty awesome y’all were able to sleep in those bunks and not in a dirty, damp tent!! That was a nice surprise! Prayers from Texas for continued safe adventures!! ❤
Good decisions makes for safe hiking. Remember to HYOH!
Absolutely! Always thinking on the fly!
That’s such a wonderful Marker on trail in memory of a thru hikers love of the AT.
I understand once a year in June or July a group comes to the area of the soldiers in memory & honor of them. I forgot the groups name but it was in another hikers video.
Slippy/slippery!
I kept expecting a monster to appear out of the fog. Kind of spooky. That hostel was a treat after the rainy morning and foggy hike.
I love and share your M.O. bears. You wisely waited the rain out and still cranked some serious miles today. 👏 I was thrilled when you secured a place at the hostel. I hope you didn't go for that 2nd pizza LB. 😂 The bears are rock solid. 💪 🌲⛺️🌲
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Get some gators for your shoes. Helps keep things out of your shoes.
Thanks. I don’t prefer them. Just another thing to keep track of. Easy enough to stop for a minute or two.
Little Bear isn’t sure she wants them either. We’ll see if she changes her mind.
As a local, I was very happy to see that you visited and filmed the Shelton Graves, I love hiking in that area.
The fog is just beautiful!
It really was! ☺️
Sometimes the best days on trail come from unexpected conditions. Little Bear is going to come out of this journey with so much strength, determination and resilience.
Hope you continue to have many, happy trails ahead. You've got this.
Agree 100%! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Good morning, Mama Bear and Little Bear. Glad you made the decision to not pack up til the rain stopped. You don't want to risk hypothermia. And you still made 11 miles. Wow. You ladies are growing in so many ways. Glad you enjoyed the ethereal forest. I do, too. I really think they are beautiful. How neat finding that hostel. A bed, a shower, and a roof over your head. You can't beat that. Life and the trail are about being flexible. And you demonstrated how to do that in a neat way. Ya'll take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.
Thanks! It was a great day!
The trail provides. Happy trails.🤟🏻🥾🏔
Talk about in having your heads in the clouds. I've heard that the ticks are starting be careful.
The young girl looks so comfy , love being in a tent nice and warm when it is raining. Makes me want to set up my tent in my yard
It's a zombie fog! BTW, y'all need one of them tents where you can pack up the interior part and all your stuff first and take the rain fly down last.
We have that option to put the rain fly up first with the ground cloth. Haven’t done it much yet.
Turned out to be a great day. Safe travels.
Little Bear's expression when she looked back and forth from the unexpected hostel sign to you was priceless! And your response, are you thinking what I'm thinking? A day full of unexpected variables, and you adapted so well to each of them. Glad you took the side trip to the little cemetery. That was very interesting. Good night Elle. Looking forward to tomorrow.
Way to be flexible and enjoy the experience. These will be great memories for you guys.
Definitely! Thanks!
Just found you! I will be following. Take care 💕
Welcome! Thanks for being here! 😊
Hiking Dancer gave you a shoutout in her last video. Different trail with great people.
I thought that was super cool!!
That’s so sweet! We love Roadrunner! 💙
Morning "Rainfall" rest time. Foggy and rocky fields, be safe. Streams and green pastures. This is your journey your pace. Im learning about trail hiking as well. Thank you for sharing your experience and trail hike. Nice late afternoon eating time.😊
That was a great opportunity to dry out your tent staying at Laural hostel and warm up a bit as well overnight. Awesome update.🌲👍
Yes indeed! Thanks!
A wise man once told me, “Planning is everything, the plan is nothing”. This day of yours totally depicted that sentiment. Hope the Rooster didn’t wake you too early LOL
lol! The rooster was just fine. 😊
And yes, flexibility on trail is so important.
It turned out so well. Why? Because you two took on your day like the ancients would have, in any part of the world. You listened to nature, you felt it as it spoke to you. I so appreciated that you both see mist and fog as something lovely to behold. It bothers me that some call it creepy or spooky. Too much Hollywood and not enough real nature. Noted even the flowers rest, close-up and bow their sweet heads during misty hours. Did you know that the amazing woman the late Eleanor Roosevelt loved foggy days at her beloved Campobello in New Brunswick? It gave her peace from a busy world and life. Pleased you move with the day; it will always bring you two joy even when exhausted. I live close to a shore thus fog & mist is a part of my life. Steady as she goes, no slipping allowed. lol
It was a wonderful day. The dog was so beautiful, but it’s ok if some feel there’s a creepy vibe, lol. It’s fun to use your imagination. No need to be afraid though. It’s beautiful to embrace and partner with nature rather than try to fight her.
On the Find A Grave website this is called the Shelton-Haire Cemetery. They suggest there that these were likely deserters who later became members of the US 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry. The unit was called "Kirk's Raiders." It had one of the few open female soldiers of the Union army, Malinda Blalock, who had formerly been a disguised CSA soldier. - A "bridge" like this over a fence is called a "stile." There are zillions of them in the UK where there are so many stone walls and fences.
I think you were wise to wait out the rain. With the temps, wind and rain one could quickly get in trouble.
You give such good advice. You are such a good example for LB.
Thank you 🙏🏼
What started out as a Rainey/foggy day turned out nice and a good surprise stay at a hostel.
🚶♀️🐻👟👟🚶♂️🐻😺👟👟⛺ I don't blame you one bit for waiting to the rain past the fog was so neat looking it look like you was getting ready to walk up on a big castle in the middle of the woods stay safe and happy hiking and good night ELLIE 😺🐈🐾
love lb's trekking poles dance walking into the hostel - said it all!
Speaking of smells…if you smell Cucumber out there, there is either an angry Copperhead or Rattlesnake very close by. At least they give you fair warning. 🐍
Hmmmm. Haven’t ever heard of that before. Thanks!
No one has ever heard of this because it isn't true
I have never heard that, but I can definitely small snakes, can’t describe the odor, I just instantly know it’s a snake and sure enough it is 😅
@@CavemanOutdoorsMissouri Sorry it IS true about copperheads, not rattlesnakes though. The rattler is usually a gentleman and warns you!
@goldpop5001 only as a defensive reaction. Just in general, they've emit no oder. Most people say they smell nothing.
Way to roll with it Bears!
Thanks! 🙏🏼
Tim is a legend. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
Just going with the flow. Taking what the trail gives you. That's how you finish the AT. Thanks for another great video. ❤and🔦
I agree! 💙
Good afternoon Mama Bear and Little Bear and 😺 Miles and smiles!
Good video, with some good views on a start on bad rainy day, so let's keep on hiking 😊
Glad you’re both ok and enjoying the day! It’s pretty beautiful out there!!!
Doing great! Thanks! 😊
What an amazing day. The fog was so beautiful!
Glad you got your miles in along with a surprise payback for your patience!
Nicely done!
Thought the hostle was sketch at first and was concerned for the long walk off trail but it turned out great!
Thanks! Before we walked there, I checked out the reviews on FarOut and they were good. 😊
Looks like a classic day on trail! "The trail provides" little bear confirmed ✌️❤️
Spooky gorgeous forest! God creates so many amazing things and if we trust Him, our paths are always a blessing. The rocks reminded me of the ones Moses got water from. The little bridge over the fence is called a stile. I’ve crossed hundreds in Ireland. ☘️❤️
11 miles in 6 hours good job
I just loved today! Loved hearing the rain on your tent! Walking in the fog was so very 😎. Watching the sun coming through the clouds was beautiful , visiting those graves RIP and finding Laurel hostel. Plus you still did 11 miles. A late safe start to the day was well worth it! Goodnight rest up & Hike On! 😻🥾👍❤️😎🧗♀️🏕️🙏
I had wondered about your necklace? I am glad someone asked about it. I could not tell it was a tree. Nice! By the way..that is some kind of fog!
That hillside field eas beautiful at devils gap trail head. I have left some teail magic at that gap a couple times over the previous 3 weeks.
So nice of you! 😊
I wonder if that big 2 rocks use to be 1 but was struck by lightening and now is 2 ❤
Those stones gave me Outlander vibes.
Yes!! The standing stones at Craig nadune 🤣🤣
Different plans all worked out!
I never realized there were so many grave sites on the AT. RIP ❤️
Oh yeah, that's quite impressive that you did that many miles in the rain and unsafe conditions. Enjoy your day! 😊 🙏 ❤
Thanks! 😊
Sooooo happy you waited❤️❤️❤️🥰❤️🥰
I love the faces little bear makes!! You could see in her eyes “yay hostel🙌”. You guys really got those miles in and then were rewarded with a shower and a bunk for the night!!! SCORE😍 I’m praying you both stay warm, dry and free from slippy falls💗🙏 I talked my husband into hiking through the woods in Pennsylvania and he slipped on a rock! Landed on his side and broke 3 ribs. He would never go hiking with me again 😢May the good lord keep you safe 🙏💕💕
Thank you. Your prayers are so important to us. God goes with us. 🙏🏼
So sorry to hear about your husband and his injury. I hope he healed completely.
What a nice surprise at the end of the day!! Just found you 2 days ago. Enjoying your vlog!!
Welcome! We’re so glad you’re here. 😊
Hahaha🤣 I’m laughing out loud because almost all of the trail the vibe was it was spooky with the fog but you brought up numerous times about apocalypse and zombies. Then the sun comes out and it continued to be a happy day, Finally you came across an unexpected hostel which looked like it was quickly put together like a movie set. As you are walking towards it I heard a chainsaw in the background and immediately my thoughts went to that horror movie, the Texas Chainsaw Murders and I thought, don’t stay there😮😮😮😂. Mama Bear that Hostess cup cake looked VERY delicious and I remember always wanting one as a kid. Little Bear, I loved that were reaching into backpack and who comes out, Miss Elle! We or maybe just me loves to see Miss Elle make her appearance at the of a hard day on the trail 😉🐱. Sleep well and see you Bears tomorrow morning bright and shine. Love and light to you both 🐱🧸🐻⛰️🥾👍
Hahaha! It was a great day! Love and light to you! 💙☀️
That fog was so cool and it turned into a beautiful day! Yay for finding a great hostel!!
Cool surprise ending! ☺️
Good job! That hostel is a funny feeling little oasis isn’t it? I snacked out there with U turn and Rif. Erwin has good resupply…but the little town is worth checking out for a bite. You may need to make transport plans ahead if doing town though. Make sure the shuttle lady knows your intentions. Speaking from personal experience. Haha. MB…expectations can mess with your head a little bit huh? LB…you’ve seen those dirty girl gaiters haven’t you? It’s the pro look…especially in camo or tie dye!
Sounds like rain…be safe out there
The fog looks really cool!
Don’t let Little Bear get too far ahead of you! You will lose her in the fog🤣
Lovey video again - interesting, funny, touching, capturing the beauty around you, dealing with the challenges. Love and hugs. ❤️
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Thank you for showing that little hostel. The last time I saw that place was in May of 2019. I’ll never for get it. When I walked up there were 4 or 5 hikers standing around talking. I set my pack on one of those chairs and everyone else’s backs were sitting on the ground. The owner’s dog came over and peed on 3 of their packs!! Really soaked them. When I was there, the place wasn’t very well kept. Kinda nasty. Great memory. Thanks again.
Yikes! 😬 I’m glad it was a good experience. And we made a new friend: Popeye.
That was NOT the craziest thing that's ever happened there, lol, but this is a family page. "Kinda nasty" is accurate for May of 2019 (I must have been just behind you). Some improvements had been made by June of '23, although Tim's direct personality still shines through: "Don't Piss in the Shower." Great place.
After losing an entire morning I would have kept hiking to make up miles. Days are ticking away. Good luck on day 39
Good for you!
@@wildflowersadventures You go, Caveman.
They are not you. You do you, boo.
@@Sourpatchhikes didn't ask you

Just plan on walking and see what happens throughout the day. Know that you are going to walk but make the rest of the day an adventure. You have already seen that you can start at 12:30 and still make miles and as the summer progresses you can hike longer. I'm not saying to start at noon everyday but it's nice to know that you can on those occasions that the weather isn't cooperating. Just loosen your plans up a little or try going a day without plans. Just go a day where you decide where you want to end up camping and just see how the day goes getting there. See how many surprises you get like this hostel. Once you see what you are capable of, the true freedom will set in, and you will suddenly realize that you can do anything you want all day. Try making one plan.......get to Katahdin.
You two look so happy in this video. You're doing great, you're hiking strong.......and you're still smiling!
geek
Thanks! That’s pretty much what we’ve done since day one. We have loose plans of where we’d like to end the day, and just take each day as it comes. There’s way too many variables to have hard set plans. That would be a difficult and unhappy way to hike.
@@wildflowersadventures In 1990 I hiked a little with a guy named Hunter. He started the trail with an itinerary and stuck to it. He had every day's hike and every night's campsite marked, and he stuck to it the entire way to Katahdin. he ended up being miserable after Erwin.
Call REI and they will ship to your next stop
A beautifully restorative morning lying in the tent, listening to the rain in the woods. Life doesn't get much better than that.
Hiking in the fog is cool, much better than driving in it for sure! It did look like an episode of TWD, tho. I'm so glad no walkers 🧟♀️ came out of the fog at you. Do you have a crossbow with you? Hmm... maybe you could use your trekking poles if you have enough strength to mash it thru a skull 😂
Hahaha! Glad you could see the TWD reference. Our family loves TWD! 😊
@@wildflowersadventures I'm a huge fan!
Good morning to you both! Kinda a mystical magical kinda day. 😮 I've never watched the Walking dead because thats not my kinda thing 😮😂 but i would be wondering if someone or something might pop out and snitch my child without me knowing about it. 😅🙏 I think you made a wise decision to wait until the rain let up before you headed out. Being soaked in cold temperatures is not safe or fun. Its a good thing that you share your thoughts and conditions with everyone so they are more prepared for their own hike. I hope the person that fell is doing okay. 🙏 I fell in February and hit my head and hurt my foot but not on trail. I thought i just sprained my foot but was surprised that i fractured a bone. I wouldn't have known it if they hadn't of taken the ex-ray. I'm sure the hostel stay was a blessing after all that rain. I'm surprised it wasn't packed. Must be your lucky day. Thanks another great video. Be careful stay safe and enjoy your Hike 🚶 🏕 🍳 🔥 😊 🙏 ☔
Thanks! 😊
Simper Gumby! (in all things be flexible)
👍👍❤️❤️
Someone may have mentioned but, loops on the bottom of your pack would allow the tent to drip and gradually dry out.
Loops? I’m not sure I know what you mean.
On Osprey packs and some others there are "loops" for your sleeping pad on the bottom you could use I believe is what they are referring to.
@Nope-wd4rw I won't put my sleep pad on the outside of my pack on the bottom in loops that hold it there...but I'll put my tent there...wet or dry.
@wildflowersadventures If you go by an outfitter you could check about having something added to the bottom outside of your pack if you wanted. Some packs come with the loops on the very bottom for hanging. My tent will go there in wet or dry conditions.
You two are amazing! Please start stretching your legs and hips before you start your day! It will save you down the trail. ❤
We do a lot, just haven’t taken video. Thanks!
How do you like that Outdoor Vitals puffy coat? Just purchased one of their Sun hoodies and it’s great.
I love it!
I dont blame you for wanting to wait until the rain passed. No need to risk hypothermia or getting hurt. Little bear looked tired the previous video. I know when my kids were around her age, if they slept longer or were tired more often they were going through a growth spurt. Im sure Im not telling you anything new. Lol
I like hiking sometimes in the fog and light rain. It feels cozy to me and a little mysterious. Those rocks are millions of years old. Some of them are older than the mountains. Very interesting reading about the mountains and area around them.
Looked like the weather cleared up and turned into a nice day. And then you guys lucked out and came across that nice hostel. Were you able to dry out your tents there?
Yup its a must to have a plan, and a plan B just incase. Way to go ladies🎉 You're doing awesome.
Ive been looking at Hokas for everyday and trail. Any recommendations?
✌️🫶
Every day is an adventure! We are flexible and just take each day as it comes.
Yes, we were able to dry the rain fly out, so that was great!
We like the Hoka Speedgoats. 😊
Every time you say the word, Slippy I laugh 😂
It’s just not a word I’m used to. Slippery is mine but I like Slippy way better.😂
😂
Not sure if anyone has asked but I am curious with the bunk do you do $25 each or share a bunk for $25? Strange question but I honestly think you could probably share to where I am a fluffy gal who needs more room lol
I stayed at Cross Trails Hostel in Harper's Ferry and thought wow $30 for a bunk and shower! Glad you had a great go with the flow day that turned out so well!
We get our own bunks. Sleep is too important to skimp on a bed. If there’s ever a time where there’s only one bunk left and we need to share, then we would consider sharing, of course.
Perhaps there's a lot to be said for tarps.
We love setting up a big tarp area for camping.
Hi, I wonder why the hostal is not listed on far out?
Probably because the owner, Tim, hasn’t contacted FarOut to request it be included. I think it’s listed in the AWOL Guide though.
