Stick you are doing great…negative thoughts will come and go…hiking in high heat with bugs is no fun in my book…I have to wear a head net but the noise still annoys me…I was so happy that you had a friend to hike with today and giving you a boost of motivation and fellowship!!
It’s definitely ok to have a slow day!
Glad you moved on from the shelter…safety is a number one priority and if they made you uncomfortable you did the right thing listening to your intuition.
You are not judging. You are doing the proper thing and staying safe. Lord, keep your hand of safety on Stick at all times.
I really appreciate your content. You show us what you see and your impressions its really nice its like being with you on the trail thanks a lot.
Glad you enjoy it!
Those darn potholes!! Otherwise looks like a nice town. Beautiful scenery and sunset.
I recommend walking on the left side of a road when there's no sidewalk. This way you see what's coming at you.
Hi, Stick!
Your Content is getting better and better; Addressing Valuable Info, for those of us, who are trying to learn more helpful ideas, insights, and facts about setting-up camp, packing your gear, The Trail itself, trail-life in general; The Tramily' (on/off trail), routes, sites, towns, etc.~ In addition to info as to how you deal with the rocks, first-aid, water filtering, health/injuries, weather, blazes, shelters, other hikers' personalities, etc. (... Currently listening to 'Day 68' ?, just before Duncannon, Pa.), and you just stepped/stumbled into a hole, which reminded me of a safety tip: Through-out The Day ~ Continuously Monitor your body's Current Condition, Observing for such instances as 'stumbling/tripping' (especially Later in the day), which may be a hint, that your body is showing Fatigue, especially if not recently getting enough Nutrition, and/or Time & Quality of sleep/rest; All of which May make a difference, when you decide how much farther to push miles, before calling it a day; So that You can Enjoy The Trail, and Live to Hike many more "HAPPY TRAILS"!!!
I Liked Your Observation: "Wear your HEADLAMP above the Bill of your Cap, to minimize Bugs getting in your face/ears, etc.", Which i had already been doing, But for a different reason, i.e. ~ The Headlamp's 'Band' is more comfortable (to me), when worn 'on' the hat, rather than next to my forehead/skin. ~ Since 'college days', i have used many abbreviations/acronyms (aco), for personal issues (isu) ~ So, Now, Also for most of my 'trail language", which influenced how i got started watching UTB videos, such as Yours, Dixie's 'Homemade Wanderlust' channel, & Many more.
So glad it’s been useful and I will try to keep sharing these types of things. Thank for the feedback!
Great job overcoming the struggles of heat, bugs, rocks, melted chocolate, and sluggish climbing! Praise God for the friends He sends to encourage and lift our spirits! 🙏
Wise decision to keep walking past the "sketchy" men at the Cove Shelter. We need Divine discernment to know when and how to respond to "those who ask." Keep asking the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions, and stay safe! Watch those branches and pot holes! 😊
Definitely was thankful for a friend when I needed one most that day! Thank you!
I follow Slow & Steady also. Great to see you both together.
Great!! We’ve been together quite a bit the last few days!!
Wow it’s hot up there! Do you miss Georgia yet? The highs the next 10 days…1 day of 80* and the following days 69-76*! 😂
I think that “interesting flower” was Mountain Laurel. I might be wrong, though…
Great video Pastor Stick! The farmland was fantastic! Thanks for bringing us along on your journey. Stay safe out there.
It was nice to meet you Stick🙂
Happy hiking🥾
Thank you!! Thank you for providing that drone footage!
That was someone else.
I will be section hiking this weekend the route you did today, but in reverse and with an overnight at Darlington shelter. Just a shakedown hike to test out new gear bought since last fall. Got my base weight down to 13.5lbs with a few luxury items.
That’s a pretty good weight! Nice job!
Beautiful sunset. I agree there's nothing like homemade ice cream.
Its raining here in pa. Pa weather general rules "rain before 7am ends at 11am. Rain after 7 ends after 11.
Those guys at Cove Mountain Shelter have been evicted and told to move on a few times and keep going back. Our club is working on getting ATC involved to get them out of there. The one guy has been there for about 6 months. The comment on FarOut about him being on trail as his “home”, is not correct because he is not moving up and down the trail. You aren’t suppose to take up residence at a shelter. He is actually reported as a missing person out of NJ, his family has been looking for him for months before we discovered him at Cove Mountain while trail maintaining last year.
Can someone inform the authorities (or family) that the missing family member is hanging out at Cove Shelter? Does he have mental issues? This seems like a potentially dangerous situation for hikers!
@@sheenarader6495 Yes, the family was told. He’s been pulled off the mountain a few times and keeps going back.
You probably need completely new shoes! You should be able to get some near NYC, although that will be after all the rocks of northern PA. I think you can find all sizes of shoes when you're near NYC, because it seems to have everything. Also, the farmland itself is actually kind of pretty! However, it's hard to enjoy when it's that hot, I know. That's a little creepy about the two guys asking for food. You really have to be careful with your personal safety on those shelters close to the roads. And wow! What beautiful sunset colors!
I do probably need completely new shoes at this point, especially after half of northern PA.
You definitely need new shoes. More than 500 miles or so with the added weight you are carrying is really pushing the resilience of the shoe soles. They may not be falling apart and may even have decent tread left but the cushion effect of the sole is going to very poor by that point. Changing insoles at about 250 miles would be wise. You could save the ones you bought and use them up the trail. Good luck.
I agree! new shoes with better cushioning against those rocks!
So, now that you're in warmer weather, wearing shorts & T-shirt and going through grassy areas, are you taking precautions against ticks? Also, since I haven't seen one, are you carrying a gps device (eg Garmin InReach)? Stay safe out there! Happy Trails! 🥾🎒🌲🗻🧑🦯➡️🍨💚🥾
Not carrying a GPS device on this trip; I will on my next one though!
I'm not sure, but maybe the next set of insoles you get just put the new on top of the old to give yourself more cushion.
I think there wouldn’t be room in the shoe for my foot.
Oh Brian, my i just encourage you that you aren't an envious person. Remember jealous is not the same as eny. You have proved to me that you are a man filled with love. Perhaps that love of God. It surely seems that way from what i can tell from a video. But, love envy it not. So, i just want you to know that jealousy is ok. From time to time. Its something we all deal with. Sometimes even paul had a gody jealousy. And God is a jealous god. So, to be jealous is a virtue. It shows that a person has a deep love that can be hurt when a separation keeps that love from flowing. However, a jealousy you experienced over that house. Is just simple desire for something some has that you admire. I have the same for your life right now. Infact many my age feel that way for youth life. But, we don't have envy. We wouldn't really live life over again. Its just an admiration for what you are, and can achieve in your future. Its all infront of you like kathadin.
Move mountains my friend. John.
That’s really insightful John. Thanks for your words and comparing envy versus jealousy. It sounds like I can’t really help if I become jealous of someone or not.
Hope you won’t be sore from the pothole. Might need to check your shoes since your feet are hurting.. the insoles may be worn. Better day tomorrow, hopefully cooler. CARPE DIEM
I did just replace my insoles, but yes, I’ve been on the lookout for new shoes.
I'm not sure but it looks like a Dogwood. The four petals are usually "wounded." These don't appear to be. The legend holds that the tree was once very large, like a Great Oak tree, and because its wood was strong and sturdy, it provided building material for a variety of purposes. According to the story, it was the dogwood tree that provided the wood used to build the cross on which Jesus was crucified.
Because of its role in the crucifixion, it is said that God both cursed and blessed the tree. It was cursed to forever be small, so that it would never grow large enough again for its wood to be used as a cross for a crucifixion. It’s branches would be narrow and crooked--not good for building at all.
At the same time, however, the tree was blessed so that it would produce beautiful flowers each spring, just in time for Easter. To remember God's promise to the tree it is said he gave it a few traits so that whoever looks upon it will never forget.
The petals of the dogwood actually form the shape of a cross. Upon close examination, it can be seen that the blooms of the tree always have four petals.
Sorry, but it isn't a Dogwood. We have several in our yard and I am very familiar with them. The flower and the leaf are different.
Very interesting about the dogwood trees, even if it’s not a dogwood. Thanks for teaching me something new!!
Hail satan
Have you ever been scared on trail?
Honestly, only when I was on Clingmans Dome
Hiker Fortune was confronted by someone, money. Yes, just stealth out of sight. The trail shelters are for hikers only. Stay safe. John 7:24. Judgement is good.
Stealth means outta sight, not just off trail. Every year the Trail gets more hikers, thus more nutters. Wouldn't do solo in this day and age.
When I got down to Duncannon a person at the outfitters said there was a group who was kicked out of a shelter only to move to the next shelter and then back again.
