Truth I grew up in the Appalachians of West Virginia you hear stuff like that in the woods that's why it's always good to have a gun with you some type of weapon that's what us kids were taught that's what I taught my kids you don't go looking is what you find might not be what you want I've seen some pretty messed up things in that but let your mountains a lot of things I still have a hard time believing us all 20 and 30 years ago and my kids have seen some things but it still doesn't stop us from going fishing hunting hiking camping mountain kids that's why you saw was respect your elders that's how mountain people survive

I was taught this as a child, used to play in the woods behind our house all the time and would almost book it tf out the woods whenever it got eerie silent and the hair on the back of my neck would stand up
This literally happened constantly and still does. And it's never stopped anyone I've known. But as natives we live on a rez and ain't a damn thing stopping us from living on it.

I’ve had this happen a dozen times in the woods of hill country growing up, I stopped going out deep in the woods alone. The birds all go silent and squirrels hide 😬 I left calmly and acted unbothered after seeing why I was asked to leave. Lots of creatures here

I don't believe in supernatural creatures but there is a good reason why you should leave asap if the forest goes quiet. Animals either run or hide when there is danger nearby. So if the forest suddenly goes quiet there is a good chance a wild predator is nearby. If you see a bunch of birds flying away in the same direction followed by silence, there is a good chance that there is a forest fire in the direction they flew from.
@razorglsvr7187 they don't want to give away their location. If you're in a place someone lives and they stop moving and stop talking and hide you should probably follow suit.
Growing up my grandmother would tell us to never whistle at nights or in the woods, never go to the river at noon alone and never answer your name if you hear it in the woods, especially if it’s a voice you know, I remember one time I was sick and stayed home from school, I was about 12yr old at the time, we lived in the country hillside and there’s this river about 15min always in a valley where we’d go all the time, I remember being home alone that day and hearing my grandmother calling me from down the valley where the river was, I thought she needed help to bring water from the river so I went following the voice, for nearly 30min I followed that voice all the way to the river and upstream to a waterfall, it felt like I was in a trance, the closer I got to the voice; the farther away the voice went, and when I got to the waterfall it was completely silent, no breeze, no birds, nothing! It felt like the trees were looking at me, I realized that I was standing in a position where the shadows of the trees weren’t reaching me and the sun was shining on me in that moment, but I felt a strong urge to leave that area and before the sun went over the trees, I started to make my way down steam and up the other side of the hill to where my house was, I remember reaching the the top of the hill and looking down in the valley at how dark it was and it just felt like something was watching me from within that darkness, when I made it back to the house I sat on the porch, and about a hour later my grandmother came from the market and I told her what happen and she said it was a “river mother” and that I was very lucky and to never go back to the river alone again.
When I was younger she’d always lock all the doors and windows as soon as the sun wen downs, I remember hearing footsteps walking up to our house and the dogs going crazy, sometimes there’d be a bang on the door and sometimes you’d even hear a voice calling one of our names from outside but we’d just ignore whatever it was and that door would never open until the birds started to sing in the mornings, this video made me remember so much stuff about growing up in the country hillside.
I remember coming from the same river with my uncle and my cousin and as we were going through the woods I saw a shadow person and looked in its face, I remember just seeing darkness and like electricity moving through the darkness; there was no eyes or mouth or nose, just pitch black with sparks of electricity running through the darkness, I remember my uncle saying “don’t look at it” but I was stuck and couldn’t move, he came and grab me real quick while also holding my cousin, and he had a basket of crawfish that he trapped at the river, he left them where I was standing and when we finally made it back to the house he told us that he had probably trapped a river spirit’s child in his crawfish trap and that’s why it was following us, and it probably would’ve killed one of us if he didn’t leave the trap.
Fun fact that same river is the longest river in Jamaica and many slaves used it to run away from there plantations and many died in those same valleys, the waterfall was were the last indigenous people were seen entering and never seen again.

@@moonlittea6249 there’s a spirit they call “rolling calf” in Jamaica, it’s said to be the spirit of a butcher or someone that slaughtered a lot of animals, they say at nights if you hear a chain pulling behind you as you walk then you’re being followed by a rolling calf, they say if you’re being followed by a rolling calf you should never let it catch up to you and never let it follow you home, I remember my uncle telling us stories of him being followed by a puppy he gave some food on the street and he didn’t think much of it until he was about 10min from the house he started to hear a chain pulling behind him, he said he glanced back at the puppy and it turned into a huge bull, he said he started to walk really fast to make distance between him and the bull who was still following him and as soon as he reached the intersection of the “dirt” road that lead to our house he stuck his knife into the ground and ran like crazy home, he explained to us that he tricked the spirit into staying where the knife was left, the crazy thing is several people from the community that morning said they encountered the rolling calf at the intersection standing over the knife waiting for my uncle to return for it, the next morning though my uncle took a bottle of rum and some food to where he left the knife as an offering, he said spirits are very tricky and it was pretending to be a puppy to gain access to our house, but I’ve also heard of spirits taking the form of cats, lizards, birds, frogs and even a crab, in fact I’ve seen the crab 🦀 myself, a big black mud crab just appeared in our house one day out of nowhere and my grandmother squeezed lime on it and I saw with my own eyes the crab fall apart revealing an empty hollowed out shell, I mean the crab was just a shell as if it died and rotted on the inside and this was a crab that was moving around fine just before my grandmother squeezed the lime on it, the moment the lime juice touched it the crab fell apart joint by joint leaving an empty shell, it was very weird.

I'm 53 years old I'm from Detroit I haven't lived there in over 20 years now but it used to be a beautiful place it was absolutely gorgeous full of Life full of trees now it's like a wasteland I still have some family there but it's not the same
We have the wee folk in Scotland. You might call them fairy people. I lived on a farm we were surrounded by an ancient forest. In the forest, there was a bog. i got my foot stuck in the bog and started to sink. I kid you not was going to drown slowly and nobody would have found me. I was screaming, and this little light flew over to me. I instantly heard it saying, "Don't worry, wee one." This voice was all around, then I see another 2 lights fly towards me. They all flew to my foot and made a strange humming noise. My foot cane free, and I was out. I was not scared. I said thank you and walked home. I went back the next day to give them some bread. The bog was dry, and the land had harded. On that very spot were flowers in the shape of a heart. They did not just save me. they somehow cured my ashma and gave me the gift of sight. I see wee folk all the time since that day. What most people don't know is that we all have at least 1 around us at most times. The only people I don't see them with are bad people, so I know to stay away from that kind of people.

A couple years ago (I was like 14) me and some friends decided to hike to the top of a mountain for cell service at around midnight. Miles from any other people. We’re all from West Virginia and have been told not to go into the woods at night. A massive snow storm had just passed. We made it to the top. Tried to start a fire but all the wood was obviously soaked. So we start getting mad at eachother bc we’re freezing and not getting service, we’re arguing for maybe 10 minutes when roughly 50 feet away from us in the tree line we hear a female voice scream followed by a calm “help me”. We said nothing and essentially threw ourselves down the mountain back to the house. We all slept in the same room that night and barely talked about it since. I have chills and tears in my eyes from even typing it and remembering. Stay out of the woods at night dude👍🏻
This is terrifying to me because I KNOW I couldn't ignore somebody asking for help. I live a few hours west of the mountains but I don't want to be outside of have open curtains at night either. But I've lived in the foothills and walked all over the place at midnight (also walked around pretty late in downtown Nashville but that's a sightly different danger) so this actually surprises me.
Lived here in these mountains for many years. My family has been here since late 1600s. I have spent many nights sleeping on the ground in the middle of nowhere far from any other human. Yes there are places you come across that you know you shouldn't stay . You feel this in your soul. So I keep moving on. We don't know what went on in these places. But you can feel when you are not welcome.

Here's one for you. Me and a buddy were hunting, didn't get anything, made camp. Middle of the night we heard something moving in dark, and then this buck walks right up to our fire and sits down, staring out into the dark the whole night. Scared us silly. Dawn came the buck left, and we went home. Never went near that spot again.

When I was 5, I got lost in the woods at my grandparents' house. I wasn't supposed to leave the yard, but I did, and I got lost. As I was sitting in the woods crying for my mom, 2 dirty barefoot men wearing animal skin pants approached me. They spoke in grunts and whistles and took me to the tree line by my grandfathers house. I ran to the house and told everybody what happened, Grandpa asked what they looked like. He immediately told Grandma to get some meat together. Grandma didn't hesitate. Grandpa put the roast in a box and set it at the treeline. The next morning, the box was on the front porch with a snake head in it and Grandpa said everything was ok now. Grandma kept it on the kitchen window sill above the sink until she died. She called them mountain men.

Years ago, our brakes failed, coming down the mountain. In a VW bug. Used our shoes to stop. Rolled in the woods, we found a still. Surrounded by guys with shotguns. We explained the problem, and they fixed the brakes. Saw a child playing with a hatchet for a toy. Ate dinner and were escorted off the mountain by the moonshine guard. They gave us a couple of jars of moonshine. I've never been so scared in my life.

My grandfather was a very prolific moonshiner where we live, and the majority of his "associates" would help someone who meant them no harm in any way they possibly could. Some of the nicest, and funniest old timers I knew growing up were really good and kind family men. They were just doing what they knew to provide for their kinfolk.

I've lived in the Appalachian Mtns my whole life and spent a lot of my teenage years wandering in the woods. I can confirm that things can get weird when the sun starts going down and even during the daytime. You just feel it, the woods go silent, then you start hearing twigs snapping nearby. There are spooky things out there.

Did you ever hear of the girl who fell off a cliff near Franklin, NC, just over the Georgia border? It was 1997 and that girl is me! I was just telling my Uber driver about my experience yesterdy because he asked why i am in a wheelchair (no, it's not rude). I ended up telling him of the various miracles that contributed to my surviving that ordeal (i wasn't found for 54 hours). One thing that happened was, after i fell and woke up, i yelled for help but i had a punctured lung... 90% of my life force left me in that instant and Angels swooped down and said to me: You will be rescued. The rescue team will not be able to see you where you are now. They will be coming up the river.
Thanks to a beloved Border Collie, i was found right next to the river, and there was clear evidence in the sand that my body had been dragged the 50 feet from where i landed under the cliff, to the river.
I was in the middle of nowhere, hardly any humans even knew about the area where i was save for the white water rafting that zooms through there. To this day no one has any idea what or who dragged my body.
Also during the night, i remember opening my eyes (i was in a deep crevace) and seeing a round, white light flying above the trees over me, and it beamed a message to my mind, not in words, but telling me, essentially 'we know where you are, darling. No worries'

Used to go to my exs family cabin in the Allegheny mountains. I grew up in the woods and it never bothered me being alone or there in the dark. All the other adults would be wasted and I don't drink so I would be last one awake. Being the big strong man that I am decide to go for a hike in pitch black woods. Get about halfway up mountain and hear people whispering my name, shine spotlight around and see absolutely nothing but can still hear snickering and whispering and thought for sure somebody somehow woke out of their drunken slumber and beat me up there somehow and was fucking with me. I had NEVER been spooked the way I was that night. Get back to cabin quickly and everyone still inside sleeping so I sat on porch watching what was left of camp fire and listening... something out there knows my name and prowls around their property at night. I'm getting cold chills just recalling that night

Had that happen to my friend, he said when he was little he swore someone said his name but nobody was around and he had those same feelings. Personally I think it’s demonic because what else could it be? No way it was some humans that just guessed your name correctly toying with you lol unless you had friends in that area too at the time
@Ellie7 nobody I know in that area except for everybody who was back at cabin passed out. Also, I'm always hearing voices regardless of where I'm at but this time it didn't seem even vaguely similar to the ones in my head

Thank you for sharing!! I constantly try to tell people weird stuff doesn't happen 24/7. Some people never experience anything at all! I'm just sharing our Appalachian folklore, though I and everyone in my family has experienced weird stuff at least a couple of times in our lives. I LOVE being in the mountains. Camping, (primitive style is my favorite), hiking, picnics, etc. The inner joy and peace is undescribable. Sitting around a campfire way out in the mountains hearing nature's music is absolutely the best!! ❤️

I grew up in a family that didn't have many resources.
I was always happy to be camping in a tent when everyone around us had campers. Mother Nature has always made me feel at home.

I lived in Fall River, KS as a child. They tend lure children in to spirit them away. Whatever they are... I don't want to find out. I heard something call my name from the wooded area at the edge of our property. I still get chills. It was a woman's voice. It tried to sound like my mom I think. But it was too airy. It sounded ethereal. It confused me because I knew no one was there. I ran back to the house and asked my mom if she called for me. She said no and I knew I made the right choice to go find my mother where I knew she would be instead of investigating the woods.

Same thing here in Pennsylvania. I was also taught that if you know that it’s day time, like 12:30 and all of a sudden it starts to get dark and cold that means you aren’t invited and that’s your cue to leave silently and calmly like you didn’t even notice.
Lived in the southern tip of WV (mcdowell) my whole life and recently went hiking. Went off trail for a little ways, and then stopped to rest. A cute squirrel came right down from a tree and then proceeded to stare at me and make a bunch of ruckus while stomping his front paws- I thought he was just being territorial. Then I realized the squirrel was looking behind me and I got this feeling I wasn’t alone and as soon as that happened everything fell dead silent , all the birds stopped making noise. I started to hear a voice hoot from the nearby trees, it sounded like a man trying to make ape noises. I then heard what sounded like something HUGE trudging through the leaves towards me but I didn’t see anything.
I immediately assumed bigfoot and I did not calmly walk away I RAN so fast and far my throat bled a little from exhaustion. I stopped right at the woodline of the park where the trail started and there were police parked there and I didn’t want to come running out of the bushes looking like a lunatic so I paused and took a moment to breathe.
When I walked out I noticed two boys that were the only others at the park(playing basketball at the tiny court) walking away from the woodline nearby and two cops left the cop car- one holding a rifle. I walked by and they ignored me and as I walked past the cop car they got to the woodline and fired a shot into the woods.
A man living across the road in front of the park came out of his house after watching from his window and asked me WTH was going on. I told him my experience and that when I got back to the park cops were already there and I didn’t know why. I walked back home and never to this day found out what in the world that thing was I encountered, why the cops were at the park when I got back after running like crazy, or what they shot at as I was exiting the park.
My guess is it was all tied together. And whether it was bigfoot or some feral local human, I can say for certain all the animals in the woods won’t drop dead silent like that for just another human being approaching…………

Neurodivergent social issues mostly. Cops around here aren’t normally kind or sociable either. I wouldn’t go up to a police officer and talk to one unless I was literally in absolute dire life threatening danger and it was last resort. 🤷🏻♂️
I was in a panic and ran for my life and was full of anxiety when I finally got to the park and seen cops and heard them shoot the shotgun. All I could think about was getting home safely. I was also worried the police would somehow be suspicious of me.
‘Why were you running?’ ‘You heard and got scared of what? You on drugs buddy?’ I was already an emotional mess I didn’t want any cop triggering me more lol. I don’t know if they shot at a black bear(they usually shoot and kill them around here if they get into stuff which is sad) or if they were shooting at some unknown thing.
Honestly if they were shooting at what I ran from, I wouldn’t want anything to do with the cops. Whatever I ran from probably could have ended me/made me missing real easy. But it let me go lol
If cops were shooting at it then I’m against that 100% we need to keep peace with things like that. It let me go and so I would do the same for it, almost as a thanks. 😂
You also never go where it says, private property or no trespassing. You stop and immediately go back the way you came, quietly. The mountain people don’t mess around about their privacy and wanting to be left alone.
I remember doing this as a kid. Hiking up on the back of a house or no trespassing sign always gave me a mini heart attack and the urge to run the opposite way. Mountain people are the most helpful people you'll meet, but they are also the most elusive

@@jamescraigson5069 most people there are nice but there’s some that will send their dogs after you too. There was a place like that up the hill where I lived. They had fencing and no trespassing signs. I never even could see a house or what was in the property because of the trees. I'm not an animal expert (meaning I have no degrees in animal related fields as of yet, hopefully soon) however, I grew up studying animals and habitats a lot and naturally what comes with that is lots of folklore and legends behind certain areas and animals. Growing up on a farm, with a superstitious family, studying lots of animals and supernatural phenomena, one of the best things I learned: when the birds go silent, leave the area and get somewhere safe. Birds don't go silent for no reason. Whether it's supernatural or natural, I personally feel birds have a connection to both. So your best bet is to leave. Birds are always your friends in the woods.

For me it's frogs. If they hear you the frog chorus goes silent. You have to sit very still for about 5 minutes before they start up again. But birds do the same thing too.

I was in the Appalachia several years ago when I looked up and saw an owl turn it’s head and look straight at me, for some reason that memory is seered in my mind. It was very quiet, I knew to go away and leave the woods. It was not a normal owl encounter. It was very clear to not go further. I’ve encountered spirits before but I was not in the mood. People don’t realize there a lot of things that happened in the past and spirits do wander.
It was probably a demon (ars goetia) or a jihn (islamic mythical creature)

I live in the north Georgia mountains near the Appalachian trail. Cougars are coming back into Georgia and they are here. I had one at dusk watch me get groceries out of the car from 15 feet away. We also have bobcat and bears. I am now in the house at dusk, locked in tight.
The "black eyed children" are what scare me. I live by myself, I am 65, female, and I am not opening that door for anyone. I have guns and bear mace for unannounced, uninvited visitors that can bleed.

I grew up in the sticks of Illinois, My grandfather was a frontiersman men like his before him. I made a mistake Living in New Mexico, I forgot the teachings and should have known to get back to my truck. I didn't, the entire mountain went silent. Pin fall silent, no wind, birds bugs. perfectly still. Last thing I remember was looking at my watch, It was 7:32 PM. At exactly 2 minutes after sun set, I heard a distant whistle and then my name was called out. Something made me pause turning to walk back to my truck no more than 10 feet away. I don't recall passing out, getting knocked out, falling asleep, etc. but hours had passed. My cell phones battery was dead, my truck was on E (was just enough fuel left to get back to town). My jacket was miss buttoned, it was one button off from the bottom up, boots untied and my handgun was removed from it's holster, unloaded and taken apart. the ammo was lined up on the center console and the parts where laid out in the seat. I have not again set foot in the Bandolier Mountain range. This was also just outside the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

When I was a wee one, I saw the green lights. It stays with you to be sure!
I’ve experienced this myself when a hike in the woods turned darker faster than I thought. I was being stalked. I could hear every baby footstep right inside the tree line walking along side my. Everytime I stopped, it did too. When I ran. It did too. I turned and looked into the trees. I couldn’t see anything, but I could feel it’s breath. I was frozen for a moment. Then realized there was an open cow pasture ahead, and headlights in the other side. I crawled through the barbed wire, and ran through a field of cows like I’ve never ran before. That was years ago, and it still makes me tremble when I speak of it, or think about it. I feel like I got lucky that evening. I still have no explanation of what it was. But the land used to be owned by a black farmer who was murdered along with his family in the middle of the night by the kkk in the 30s. I wish I knew what to make it if, so that I could figure out how to deal with it.

Yep, you might should oughta do what she said. I was running a trap line at 13 years and I very clearly heard my name. All the birds and squirrels suddenly stopped singing and scurrying. I clicked my Marlin 22 to red and put my back against the tree and listened. After awhile the forest sounds didn't start back up and I could feel a whole different energy. I packed it up and boogied back to the house--pure D adrenaline. When you grow up in the woods the only thing that can sneak up on your is a mountain lion. I don't know what that was. I live in Scotland and a few years ago me and some friends decided to go to a mountain bothy (hillwalking shelter, basically an old crofters cottage) for one of the guys birthday weekend. The bothy is located on the shore of a sea loch (Loch Long) and we did a spot of fishing and just chilling out, i don't drink or smoke but the rest of the lad's enjoyed that sort of thing but i wanted to be alert incase something happened to one of us. Loch Long is located in Argyll and Bute which is a massive county that boasts beautiful scenery and has stunning mountains and it's also part of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs Park, it's truly stunning. The first night went great, no issues and none of the other lad's fell into the Loch or went missing i stayed awake and made sure that everyone was safely inside the bothy and i was sitting outside by the fire talking to a few hillwalkers who were also staying in the bothy. The next day we all got ourselves together for another day before going home the following day, across the Loch is a oil offloading facility and oil tankers come in, off load their cargo and it's then pumped over to the refinery in the east coast of Scotland so there's a constant humming noise of pumps running and probably electrical equipment running at high voltage. In the afternoon me and one of the hungover guys decided to walk up the side of the mountain back to the car which was a good 4 or 5 miles away parked up, there's a gravel road to the bothy but only the park rangers and emergency service vehicles are permitted to use it but at least there's a decent footing to the car. The other guy said "why don't we take a shortcut through the woods and hopefully get to the car quicker?" I was very hesitant about the idea but eventually decided to go for it but a good 30 minutes into this ridiculously idea after walking through marsh and deer dung plus the bloody midges bitting my body I'd had enough and told the other guy that I'm heading back to the bothy, so he angrily marched away trying to keep going. I was lost in the very dense forest and thought if i make my way back down to the shore and follow the shoreline in the opposite direction I'd get to the bothy easily. So now I'm on my own trying to get back through all of the horrible stuff I'd went through but i was getting disoriented and thought well i can hear the people out on their boats with their engines running, i can hear the oil depo,the birds the water hitting the rocks, the problem was i knew i was going downwards and everything i could hear was disappearing like i was heading further away and at the same time i felt a very strange presence which very quickly turned to absolute fear, i very quickly became petrified my heart was pounding and i was breathing quickly but i kept walking down and the sound of my feet crunching the dead sticks disappeared, I truly felt like i was in the presence of a witch or something similar it's the most profound thing ever to have experienced, i swear it felt like something pure dark was watching me from behind one of the trees and i knew it was follow me down to the water, as soon as i could see the shore by god i ran like the devil himself was chasing me, about 20ft from the rocks all the sounds came back, I jumped onto the rocks, slipped and banged my arse and back but when i turned around to look back at the forest i could hear the sound of the small twigs and sticks snapping as if something was running back up the forest away from me. It's an experience I'll never forget and hopefully doesn't happen again 🏴

@@sylviarichardson2138 it was truly terrifying, the following summer we went back and this time it was one of the other lads who didn't come to the bothy the previous year and he was still under the influence with alcohol and dope, for whatever reason he ventured down the same direction as me and the other guy did but he just wandered away from the bothy not saying a word so we all assumed that he's further up the proper gravel road. The further up we all went and we couldn't find him, I could hear a guy shouting but it was very difficult to hear word for word because of the forest, the next thing his wife phoned one of the guys that was on the road and she was really freaking out because he phoned her and told her he's up to his neck in a swap along the same route I'd went the year before, we had no option but to phone the emergency services and it very quickly became a search and rescue and within 30 odd minutes or so the coastguard found him. When we finally got back reunited with him his family drove the 50 odd miles from home, where asked why he went that way he said that he could hear myself and the other guys shouting on him "Greig..we're all over here buddy" and we all assured that it wasn't us and to this day he swears that's what he was hearing.

WOW that's truly a creepy story, gave me chills. I grew up on an island but our family is from the highlands where the area has very thick rainforests and natural rivers. We grew up with so many folklores and myths (Im sure were based on real events) that I took to heart similar to this ladies warnings. If we ever get lost in the woods don't respond or whistle it was possibly a demon or a spirit following you....Follow the river to find you way home...to this day no matter what part of the world I still follow the advise passed down
Bottom line is, no matter where you might be, if you're on your own and something calls your name you need to remember the golden rule: don't. Don't go looking, don't call back, don't panic, and don't keep going where you're going. Remain as calm as possible and leave the area quickly and safely. If you're lost and that happens, well... remember that the land you crossed to get there you've already passed through once. The devil you know, etc.

I spent time living off grid in Northern Vermont and it was the same thing as I learned when I was little in the woods of Maryland my grandparents always reminded me to never answer back to something mimicking, in the woods... mimicking I mean like sounding like a human voice calling out your name. They were never given an explanation it was just a fact and you didn't do it and I heard some crazy s*** up in Northern Vermont.
I worked in a summer camp in Vermont and we had this Night Shift. We had to do to make sure the campers stayed in the cabins. Long story short, I can definitely attest to weird noises at night. No offense but I never wanna go back to Vermont.

There's a clicking sound and I can't describe it but I've heard it in some people's videos. It's methotic clicking. You always feel like you're being watched when you hear this sound and there's like nothing in society that I can try to relate it to It's only in the woods it's just a methotic clicking. And then there's the screaming or the howling sometimes it's coyotes way off and you can't actually tell if it's a coyote or not cuz you can tell coyotes as soon as they get close enough but sometimes when they're way off sounds like a woman howling or screaming but then there's this streaking sounds almost like a cat but it's not.. And it's not a fisher cat because I know they're hell I know they're footprint and they're always to the northwest of our property and these streaks they used to come up over the mountain back in the state park, back towards the long trail. It was always the same sound so it couldn't have been different women screaming but I heard it my boyfriend heard it and our neighbor heard it on several occasions. I'm not going to say that it actually was from kind of creature or it could have been wind going through a cave somewhere I don't know but it was creepy and it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up The clicking sound is creepy and you're constantly looking behind you when you're walking and you just want to get back to your shelter right away. And I'll tell you I'm not scared of the dark I'm not scared of animals because I'm always caring a rifle but these sounds scared me maybe scares not a good word They put me on edge with a heightened alertness like my animal instincts were telling me to get the fuck out of there.

Don’t talk at night, don’t whistle, don’t mock them and don’t test them, I’ve seen them forest demons I’ve been stalked once by them, you stay calm and get out of there, but if you have to cross evil ground tell them your just passing through, cause you ain’t gonna hide from them they already know your there and you ain’t gonna outrun them, tell them your passing through. I’m actually from the ozark mountains, southern Missouri/ northern Arkansas, and a lot of the mountain folk here still live on the land they’ve held for 4 generations. It might be easy for someone to say those rude things if they haven’t experienced true wilderness and have lived there lives within the consistency of the suburbs/city, but there’s things out there that can’t be explained. I hunt, trap beavers bobcats and coyotes, I go jugging for turtles and catfish, and hunt mushrooms and dig goldenseal root for cash, I spent my life in the wilderness and there’s incredible things out there, and whatever Is out there doesn’t like being seen, I’ve only had 2 experiences and that’s cause I crossed onto there turf.

I grew up in Appalachia and have also been all over the world. Nothing quite as majestic as the rolling hills and valleys of Appalachia. I grew up spending a lot of time in our woods. Been in those woods in the middle of the night too. Seen some wild things, but nothing supernatural. I've heard some things that I could not explain though.
The wildest noise I had ever heard. Came from when I walked down towards our treeline around 2 to 3am one night. I walked outside to catch the beauty of the night. There was a full moon out and everything glowed to where you could see everything. So I walked down the yard to a tree and turned around to look at the moon and stars. Walked back up to the porch a few minutes later and was standing there at the rail looking around amongst the treeline I had walked from. Then came this loud aggressive wail. It was two loud, high pitch wails and then the tone gradually declined as the sound carried out. It came probably only a couple hundred yards into the treeline I had came from. It scared me like no other. From that point on, I didn't come off that porch at night. I've heard big cats wailing and it sounds kind of like a woman screaming. I've heard many different species of birds. But in all of my years I've never come close to hearing anything like that. Had to be some sort of mammal. It was just too loud to be a bird.
Peacocks make a sound like "HALP, HALP!". It's just about hair raising. Kind of high, but LOUD.
I don't know if it could be that, but there are probably some strange things out in the woods at night. 😱

@@lizh1988 it definitely was not a Peacock. It is hard to describe. But it wailed as if it had a thick diaphragm. It had a very loud pitch and aggressive pitch. It wailed and then the sound receded. As the sound was receding, it had a higher and lower pitch. Almost similar to chirping as the sound lowered. Not literally chirping, but a higher and lower pitch like a wave motion as the sound lowered. It done it twice. I stood in shock. It was definitely nothing have ever heard before and it scared me. I tried to rationalize the ordeal. Thinking maybe it was a big cat of some sort, or maybe a coyote noise I'm unfamiliar with. Even thought maybe someone had a pet monkey I didn't know about and it managed to get loose or something. Whatever it was, I highly doubt it was a bird. It sounded way too big for that. Creepy stuff.
@@kaylacarpenter272 I lived in Michigan by Rochester for a couple of years. I used to travel to Traverse City a lot too. Never been out that way in lower western Michigan. I made my way around the woods some in the UP. I loved it up there. It's amazing how there are bear, moose and things like that up there. But they are actually very challenging to find. It's hard telling, there could be some other animal out there that isn't much known about.

They make several types of noises, but if you have never heard one up close, and don't know what it is, then you would think it's Satan himself calling out.

You'll usually feel an ominous presence outside when you leave the house at night.
The noise you make should reflect the noise of your environment. If it's impossibly still, you should be careful that your movement doesn't disrupt the stillness and quiet. Move with purpose and silence.
If the night is full of life and moonlight, you're probably okay to just keep quiet, but if you're under the cover of a new moon, and wildlife is impossibly quiet or seems far away, you should be as silent as possible, and avoid any overtly wooded areas that you can manage.
I have lived in the mountain region just outside of Glacier Park in Northwest Montana for nearly 50 years.
We do not have folklore like that. However being a person that goes into the mountains alone day and night regularly I can tell you that we have many more senses than most understand. If your senses are going off like alarm bells you NEVER continue where you were going. Ease back and go elsewhere, but be fully alert and ready for anything.
I have experienced things that I cannot explain and I have experienced things that most would not believe.

Of course I have still had some terrifying moments though. Some explainable and others not so much. Especially being that the grizzly bear population as well as other predators is very dense here.

Can I tell y’all a story of a personal experience I had in the western Canadian mountains? Ok well here it goes. My family had a chunk of land in the Cariboo Mountains on the Cariboo plateau in British Columbia. Lots of history in this area especially since the Gold Rush.
It’s a beautiful place. One summer, my brother and I built a tree fort. We were so happy about this fort that we wanted to sleep in it. So we took all our stuff up there to sleep up there one night, even our cat joined us. It was a beautiful clear summer night with a full moon. Wind was calm too, all you could hear was the gentle rustling of the trees or the creaking of a tree. As we tucked I to our sleeping bags, my cat was laying there with me. My brother fell asleep quickly but so was awake, looking up at the stars and moon through the trees (no roof yet). As I lay there enjoying this moment, the wind started to pick up a bit, but it was still gentle and it was a warm breeze. But then my cat was startled by something and she sat up and looked a bit nervous. Then the strange thing happened. I could hear a long breathy sound like, “haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa”….
The cat was freaked out and she took off back to the house. I waited a minute or so and I heard it again. “Haaaaaaaaaaaa”… then I heard something say my name. I was like what the hell?! I was frozen in my sleeping bag, I waited to see if I heard it again, I did. And then I heard it say my name and my brother’s name. 😰 I woke my brother and made him listen. He didn’t believe me at first, until he heard it too. I got a really strange feeling and my brother and I immediately jumped up, grabbed whatever rubber boots we could fund( I had his left boot on my left foot and my left boot on my right foot 😂) and we jumped out of the tree so damned fast and made a bee line towards the cabin. We were crying for dad to get the gun out! 😂😂😂😂Woke everyone up in the cabin and dad got up and got his 22. He went to check things out with the dogs but didn’t find anything. We all went back to bed, in the cabin. And we never slept in the fort again 😂

I live in CT and had some very eerie experiences here myself. This summer I was out fishing with a few of my buddies. We look across the river and see what we thought was a person walking along the water line and then they disappeared. Fast forward about 20ish minutes that same "person" was just becoming visible on the path we were on. I've never gotten the fuck out of a place as quickly as that. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and the voice in my head kept telling me to leave and leave now.

Literally was riding with an acquaintance couple years back, got to a small clearing that we used as camp alot. People talked about hearing these things but we never took it seriously. When we were headed back from a small pond not far from it, some type of whistle began , not a normal whistle from someone , or from an actual whistle. Sounded mixed. Even though me and him were far out in the sticks, we'd had little bit to drank n I took half a xanax, and we were both armed, so we were almost ready to blast, and we were already on the way back , so as soon as we fired up out quads and started to drive off we kinda forgot about it. One night we were out kicking it same place, and it happens again. That fucking sound, and loader, I've never heard it like this before and really Made me uncomfortable, on the other hand my buddy was getting pissed off at the idea of someone fu king with us. At a point I was just done and ready to stop hearing it, but he was also in a different way, and of course wanted to go find it and I took his keys told em not while I'm here, and eventually we ripped outta there. Not long after less than a month , he went missing. They found his four wheeler a bit off trail away from where we would camp, not stuck, but just sitting there left in 3rd gear, the keys were still in it, plus most of the things he kept other than his firearm (s) he kept. The only thing they found was two different tracks of blood , traces of his DNA were found a bit over a half a mile away in one of the spots of blood, they still don't know where the other blood was from. Maybe a buck? A hog? Who knows. All I know is I don't think it was an accident and anytime I got out there I atkeast keep My little plr 16 ontop of my side arm. Love you tonio rest in piece 😔❤️

The animals that live there often know this and have adapted to go silent when a predator is nearby. If you don’t hear any animals or see any movement, either hide or immediately leave, there’s a predator nearby.

In July of 2019 I went to Snow Lake Washington at dusk. Summer in the pnw the sun stays up until 8:30-10 depending on the month. This was my first visit there and we hiked 3.5 miles going over a small mountain and then descending to get to the lake. When I got there with my buddy he went to the side where the other hikers were at and I started exploring around the edge of the lake, Towards the other side. This side was further down the trail and goes into deeper wilderness for at least 15-20 air miles north before there’s another highway.
As I was exploring this side I noticed someone’s fishing pole but nobody in sight or nearby. Was a bit odd, suddenly I heard what sounded like my best friend (was not on the hike with me) call me by my middle name (it is a Japanese name). I was confused and I yelled back my friend’s name. Not even 2 secs passed and it was even louder, coming from a direction where I saw no trails. I tried to get closer, but I immediately remembered I wasn’t familiar with the area and I started walking away. I heard it one last time but was quieter than the second time. I found my bud and said we had to go because it was getting dark. We got out of there just fine but hiked the final 2 miles in pitch darkness.
I never told any of my friends in person about it but there was just something off about it. I’ve gone there twice more at noon after that with no issues. I found a while later when I started looking into missing 411, that a 37 year old man named brandon nepon went missing near the exact area where I heard the voice. He took his dog with him and no trace of him was ever found. He went missing september 2020. Could be coincidence but it strikes me so odd that no trace of him was found.

Went on a church trip for the youth when I was 15. Me and 3 friends were split from the group as we all were established as being mature enough to make our own decisions etc. We decided to go walking through the woods towards dusk we could hear a river off in the distance. I wanted to see it badly I always loved the chance of coming across something marvelous and mighty in beauty and not knowing kept me curious of what we would find. I went ahead of my friends by maybe 300 feet. When I came up to the stream I dove into the water without hesitation, it was the middle of fall and the water was cold as hell. We were at least a 1 1/4 mile away from the cabin. What I saw was a girl no older than 11 face down in the steam. I grabbed her and a branch sticking out from a log londged into the center of the current. Because of this log the current was very strong underneath the water and it was hard to keep ahold of the algae laid limb at this point I didn't know if the girl was alive or not. Eventually I screamed out for help I felt a hald reach down from the side of the banks and help pull me up. I drug the girl up after I was securely on the side of the bank. At that moment I fell back shivering cold and soaking wet. My friends then came up all together, I was confused I asked who helped me up? I then remembered the girl and turned around to find she was no longer there. I knew she was on the bank I just knew it I didn't let go I would've never. Then I realized it. There was never a girl, there was no one here to help me get out of the river. According to my friends, I took off running towards the stream like a mad-man but in my head it never happened like that. I temporarily started to show signs of psychosis and was admitted into 3 different mental health facilities within KY, it took 10 years and several mental health professionals to convince me it was a figment of my imagination. I may not be crazy, but I know what I felt that day.

A lot of people from the area seem to be rather judgy and really hate visitors for some reason so not sure if I'd wanna go at all. Very intrigued by the stories but ironically it's the people that kill my interest.

We’ll all these stories have me feeling a little better. At least I’m not alone. My husband and I took a vacation up in the Appalachian mountains near the NOC. You had to drive up this really really steep road to get to the cabin and our van was almost vertical so we said never mind and had the landlord drive us up in her 4 wheel drive. We get up there with the most beautiful views and leaf colors you can imagine and we hadn’t had a vacation in so long was really looking forward to it. I absolutely love nature. Well, once we finally arrived, it was like my husband caught the sleeping sickness and I could not get him to wake up and go do anything. I wandered around the cabin bored and it was about dusk when I started having this creepy feeling that someone or something was watching through the windows and did NOT want us there. I don’t really have an exciting ending to this story except to say I know something was there could absolutely feel it. I did not sleep the entire time we were there and did the long drive home exhausted. I later learned this was the area where the Cherokee Indians were rounded up and many of them marched or placed in a concentration camp of sorts.

I grew up in Virginia and have been to the Shenandoah many times. Ever since I was a kid and until today, I always get a strange feeling when I enter the woods in this area, like no other. I been to Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Adirondacks. The feeling I would describe here is somewhere between 'haunting' and 'magical'. I can't explain it any other way.

I went hiking alone in a nature preserve in New York state last year. I was about 2 miles from the welcome center alone in the woods, it got silent all of a sudden. Then as i walked, i heard something slowly following at a distance stepping through the branches/leaves on the ground. I stop, look around and see this weird deer staring at me from behind a tree. I continue walking the trail and it continued following, but would stop behind the trees peeking at me. Now i was taking clear photos of nature on my cellphone before the deer. I snapped a few photos of the deer, stared at it and said out loud to it: "You are one ugly freaky looking MF'er"! It just was fixated on staring at me, following me from a distance, it's face looked different than all other deer I've seen. I then started walking back towards the welcome center instead of further into the woods. The deer stopped following me and slowly walked out of sight. Birds started chirping again and it wasn't quiet anymore. I took more photos of nature as i rushed out the woods. Got home to review photos and all nature photos were clear but the photos of that deer came out blurry for some reason. I haven't gone back hiking in the woods since summer 2023.

I live in East Tennessee about 30 minutes from Gatlinburg, I was in the woods hunting last year with my bow, it was pretty much fully dark and I was grabbing my buddies trail cam to see if we had any bucks in the area, when something started whistling. Like human whistling, melodic even. Needless to say I did not go investigate, I got my big ass out of there lmao
I’m in Pa along the Delaware River and the Appalachian Trail. I’ve always camped and hiked. I camped out near the trail one night and was awoken by taps on the right side of my tent. Something small is repeatedly being thrown into the side. I was curious and I shouldn’t have, but I stuck my head out to see a growing pile of acorns on the side. Something was throwing acorn after acorn horizontally at my tent. They weren’t coming down, like falling from a tree. And there were no Oak trees anywhere even close to my camp. So something was sitting off in the dark brush and just pelting my tent with acorns. I just put my head down and went back to sleep. Didn’t see nothing, don’t no nothing. Period.

Roll Mops squirrels are territorial. Some of them extremely so and don't like you being in there. They will definitely let you know by pelting your tent or car with whatever they've got.

In the Army I trained in the mountains and swamps in Georgia. At night we would set up constantine wire and flares. We would do 2 up 2 down in groups of two. I rarely did my 2 down the first 5 days. During day and night some places would give me really bad feelings like I shouldn't be there but we'd keep moving and I would forget about it. Until night time when its pitch black and on my 2 ups I could swear it felt like we were surrounded. And of course you hear shit moving around which didn't help but im talking about a real sense of being watched and it felt like something was just passed the wire waiting. Even in combat I never felt so freaked out and uneasy in my life. I think because I knew what the enemy looked like and I was doing my job. But anticipation and not knowing was a motherfucker, excuse my language. Im 42 now and I might sound a bit crazy but that story is completely true on everything holy.

My husband trained in the same conditions in GA. One afternoon he went running alone. When he got back, he was in so much trouble. Nobody told him why. They just told him you don't EVER go anywhere alone in these woods, ever. He thought maybe animals? Hunters? When he asked about that they told him those things are the least of your worries.

This is so true. There are some unexplainable things in the woods. A group of friends and I were deep in the woods one night and witnessed three floating balls of blue/purple light. Never flashed. Never flitted around like bugs. Just slowly floating towards us. We all called them fairies, just our gut instinct.
My phone happened to flash and they were gone in the blink of an eye!

I grew up stomping around the Appalachian mountains at 4,500ft. Spent tens-of-thousands of hours in the woods. I've seen things not of this world flying through the sky near the Brown Lights area, but other than that I've never experienced any of this. Never locked the doors, always kept the blinds open. I had no neighbors so I had no one to hide from. 1,600 acres of Boy Scout camp all to myself and I was all over it. Two lakes; COPE course; climbing walls; archery, rifle and shotgun range; a large cabin that was built in 1820 and tons of other things. Would ride four-wheelers through the pine thickets all night long and set by the lake in the middle of nowhere alone fishing all night. Damn, I miss it. The gravel road that went through the middle of camp was 3 miles long and I would walk it late at night every night. I love Appalachia, I don't fear it.

Hiked the Appalachian Trail last year and one of the nights I spent in a shelter instead if my tent I had to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. It was probably around 2:30-3:00am, and the fog was so thick I couldn't see more than 5-10 feet in front of me. Anyway, I left the shelter and headed as best I could in a straight line into the woods, but quickly lost sight of the building, I stopped at a bush and did my business and swear, all of the sound except for what I was making, just vanished. My breathing and movement, the rustling of my coat, everything originating from me suddenly sounded amplified, deafeningly loud. I know about the "oz effect" or that sudden silence and ik it means that it's time to leave. So I finished up and turned back the way I came, and when I tell you my Nana, who is 75 and halfway across the country at that moment, spoke directly into my ear saying my whole first name which NO ONE uses, it scared the hell out of me. I was groggy and already creeped out by the situation, but when I heard her speak and could literally feel the breath against my ear, I can't tell you how much adrenaline started going through me. I stiffened up, did NOT look behind me, and walked that straight line back to the shelter. Didn't sleep the rest of the night. I called my Dad in the morning to thank him for all the stories he told myself and my siblings growing up, because while I COULD have imagined it, I know I didn't, and I don't want to know what might have happened if I didn't know how to react.
The best advice I was taught in the mountains was it’s not the dead you have to fear it’s the living. I find that to be the truest statement I ever heard.

There's less of them and theft from them in the mountains though because they know we're all armed and will use our arms, the mountains are a hard place for addicts and homeless. The closest town of more than 50 people is an hour away, and the closest town with a big box store and city amenities is 2.5 hours. Not ideal for folks that need to score regularly.

Broooooo!!! I used to drive cars north for people in Florida and this one time I got two flat tires on a brand new BMW near the Appalachian mountains around 12am. I got out to check around and all of the sudden I heard banjo music playing distant but not that far. It was scary as hell because it was in the middle of nowhere plus the car had only 1 spair tire so I couldn't do much but wait. That was the longest and scariest nights of my life. I remeneber running back to the car and locking everything up. I stayed in the back seat covered with a sweater and small blanket until the next morning. Banjo music at 12am in the middle of no where is a major red flag alert. That's some chainsaw massacre crap right there.

The Whistler is REAL, y'all! As soon as you start trying to listen to it, it stops. It used to happen all the time at the old homestead when I was a child. Terrifying. No one believed us as children, but I know what I experienced, multiple times. The sound always came from outside a second floor window. NOT from the ground outside.

I grew up in the woods of Maine.. not super close to the Appalachian trail but still.. the woods of Maine. My mom's bf at the time brought us out on a 4wheeler we were being dragged in an enclosed sled he made, we got stuck in some mud.. he left us to walk a half mile back to the house to get a wench. 5 minutes after he left we heard a very unfamiliar voice say "you ok kids" I instantly got chills and knew something was wrong.. we had no neighbors there was no way it was by mom or her bf. @@shadowprovesunshine Yes he said I laid on top of him and squished him lol I do remember having an overwhelming reaction.. froze but forced myself to snap out it enough to try protecting my brother. We also heard extremely loud weird screams. I slid off my chair and dropped under the table. My mom and her friend froze.. my mom said it was probably just a rabbit but I knew how a rabbit sounded this was not it. Washington county Maine is scary.. the woods and the people!!
Recently I tried to take my life…Trust me I’m working on my mental health now..but if you don’t believe me, that’s ok! I know what I saw was real and this is why I grew up always being told to stay away from alcohol, don’t whistle at night, never go into the trees alone…never open the door if you hear a knock with nobody standing there.. long story short I drank to the point to black out because I was planning on taking my life but I couldn’t bring myself to do it while I was sober because I don’t want to die..I want to live! I was told to never go into the woods, but I did because I didn’t care anymore..I remember tripped over this tree and I fell into a pit. I blacked out again. Came to being carried by something with fur, I remember looking up and I was at least 10 feet in the air, whatever was carrying me had a buffalo face and goat legs. Whatever was taking me to my death had chains wrapped around his shoulders and breathed smoke. I remembered feeling comforted and I held on…then I heard my dad. “Eleighsha!” At least 100 times…I was thrown and first thing I remember coming to was 6 police cars, two fire trucks and random people trying to find me. Apparently they heard my cries and it went silent for two hours… I learned the next day a man who lived down the road from us shot himself in the head and the cops couldn’t do anything but there’s a drinking spirit here. Idk who will read this but don’t drink, spiritual warfare is real and there’s always something trying to take us away… fuck
My story took place at my grandparents which was on about 150 acres of land and I remember my great grandfather telling me to never go outside at night or the Wahoos would get me. Also we would get in the ol Chevy and he would ride me around the entire property to point out specific areas to avoid and never under any circumstances was I to enter into these areas. It was creepy AF. To this day I still wondered what happened and how he knew about these areas and to not go to them. He never told me what he experienced.
I swear this story was true...happened to me in 1987 or 88. My ex and I were still married, went up into the Smokey Mountains camping with friends. One afternoon with nothing else to do, we hopped into one vehicle and just went driving around. I don't know where we were, lost in Tennessee, but we'd stop, get out, check out clutter shops, then go. One we went into was so crusty and filthy with garbage all over, and we all got split up. I went to the far side of this "shop" (former house), and in the furthest bedroom in back with only a few old pieces of furniture in it, something was watching me with so much disdain and contempt, it was so frightening. But something was there, I could feel it. We all left, and I couldn't tell you where that house was located, but I know what was lurking there was real. I've never told this story to many people

I grew up deep in the woods in the Appalachian mountains. And still do today just not as deep in the woods as I did as a kid. Honestly other than mountain lions the scariest thing to hear in the woods is a bob cat screeching like a young girl. It’s terrifying
Foxes. Foxes make some freaky sounds at night. I go out in the woods at night a lot, barred owls, barn owls and foxes especially will make you jump out of your skin for a second when you're not ready at the moment. And I have seen a mountain lion wh were the TWRA was denying they existed. Crossed the road right in front of me and a friend , squatted down low and slunk off the road as soon as the lights hit it, no doubt what it was. Didn't bother reporting it, I didn't feel like listening to some "authority" tell me what a bobcat is.
I've heard whistles, but never any speech, name calling. Had some creepy incidents while out there on my own and when I used to cruise trails on an atv in a small group.
Not seen any of the lights, but I don't doubt they are there. The thing we call sasquatch, I don't doubt that either, too much "smoke" to have no "fire". Not that kind of smoke either, weed doesn't cause hallucinations anyway, even it it was that kind of smoke. Not waiting on mountain lion denying know it alls to declare that sasquatch or Sabe, or whatever it is is a thing.

Here in S.E Alabama I live in the country. Imma tell you now there is some creepy sh!t going on here. At night we DO NOT GO OUTSIDE! We have bars on our doors and windows and at night our curtains stay closed. All the time we hear our trashcan lid slam close and when we go to check our security/motion light will be activated every single time. One night I opened the front door to smoke a cigarette and as soon as i opened the door my wife and I heard a LOUD scream/howl/owl sound all mixed together i cant even explain it. I Instantly shut the door then told myself no and opened it back up and we listened until it stopped. The end sounded like a dog mixed with an owl coo or something...I was born and raised here and I know all the wildlife. The sound we heard that night I honestly have never heard! My wifes eyes were huge and asked what the hell was that and i told her i had no idea! I also have pics of a huge foot print we found in our garden. I put my foot next to it for a size comparison and it dwarfed my foot and I wear a 12.5 mens boot. You can see toes and all in the Pic plain as day. I swear on my mama something comes around here almost every night to the point when the sun goes down, we are locked in until morning...The sound is what always gets me though. Ill never forget it. Sounded like a old woman screaming mixed with a howl and at the end like a dog whimper/owl coo. I don't even know any other way to begin to explain it. Shit chilled me to my core and I'm a big tough guy in my own mind at least. This sound instantly made me.close the door soon as I opened it. I did have the courage enough to automatically open it back up just to hear it to see what the hell it was but I honestly do not know.
If you know, you know! So many people who've never experienced stuff, or don't want to admit it or talk about it, can be so hateful. I've had more than my fair share of experiences and I believe you 100%!
Have you set up any sort of cameras, even a cellphone camera to see if you can ever catch anything on video? I had a terrifying experience while camping out in the middle of Panthertown, NC once. It was my scariest paranormal experience. I put a video up with my story here on my channel. It's one of my long-form videos if you're interested. The sounds I heard...I tried to describe them in the video. The entire situation was entirely my stupidity for not following the lessons that our ancestors taught us though.

@Iva.the.Southern.Appalachian yeah I told my wife I want to get cameras put outside. I know what all the wildlife here sounds like. Foxes, coyotes, bobcats stuff like that. This was not any if those. It was super loud like it was just on the other side of the road in the trees. Was almost like I interrupted it or startled it when I opened the door. It sounded off the second the door opened. Was long and drawn out.
@@chrisdom2010 You should! Even if you have an old cellphone that you could set up on the inside of a window sill until you could set up some cameras! Or even ring cameras! I'd be setting up an old cellphone in the meantime!

We went WAY out there. While I was born and raised and live in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, I knew better than to do what I did, and I wasn't familiar with this area AT ALL! My relatives live in the PA part of Appalachia. I've seen bear, bobcats, and a mountain lion at age five.
I heard a woman whisper my name one night from the woods when I was about 8. I was in the yard with my aunts white German shepherd. He started growling and showing his teeth starring into the woods and the homing pigeons were freaking out. I ran back to the house. There is something in the Appalachian mountains, a presence, some are more sensitive to it than others.

My area was completely filled with Native Americans before settlers came over. They're still tons in the area and also it's really close to the Cherokee Reservation.
I've had that happen-someone or something whispered my name. I said "whatever" or something. It said my name again. And then I said "you don't scare me, shut up." Then it hollard my name!!!! Man I flipped the dining room lights out and RAN to my grandma's room and jumped in her bed. What was it? I have no clue. But scared me to ☠️ death. 🥶

I had a similar experience, but it wasn't quite as malicious. It was almost a positive experience. I was probably 9 or 10 years old, and one night I had a horrible nightmare. I woke up just sobbing and shaking and then I heard this voice that seemed like it was coming from everywhere whisper my name. I froze solid in fear and went quiet. After a minute I whispered "Who's there" and again it said my name, but even quieter this time and then it gently shushed me almost like it was trying to comfort me. I was still scared, but at the same time i felt oddly at peace. I'm not sure who or what it might have been, but I think it was trying to help me.
Don't respond to it because you'll feed its power. Don't acknowledge it and if it gets out of control say generally, "you are not welcome here" and "get out" and always imagine white bright light around you to protect you. Fill yourself with love and courage. It sounds weird but it works.
