I have an accurate story of a call at night that scared the shit out of me and my mom so here it goes: I was asleep when I awoke to my mom urgently waking me to notify me that someone had just called to her from our gate which was not visible from our porch due to some trees and the winding of the driveway, anyway when I awoke I instinctively told her to arm herself and I did the same with a glock. Shortly after this I went outside and made sure to check the perimeters, scanning around and looking for said person/thing. After I had gotten done, I went back to the front to fire a warning shot into the ground, a little after this we hear another “hey!” similar to the one my mom had heard before. I then told the voice that they should get the fuck out of there and that we were not going to help them in anyway. I suppose that worked since the perpetrator ended up not doing anything else to us that night. More context to the story- we live in the boonies, about 1 mile from the next neighbor, on a dirt road, and about 10 miles from town. This was chilling only due to the fact that we know that people that are out late on our road are most likely doing something they should not be doing (due to the fact that not many people live on this road). Hope this creeps you out a little bit because it definitely activated my fight or flight when it happened.

I was probably about 5-6 years old, it's dark at this point and I'm standing around a fire pit when I got up to wander around and find sticks/rocks, whatever made my little heart happy lol. All of a sudden I heard a strangely familiar voice calling me from the dark woods, behind my great grandpa's shed. It sounded like my mother, who was NOT in my life at this point, so naturally, I went running to see her! Then I heard my great grandfather frantically YELL my name, and told me to get my ass on the porch which was 80 feet away or so. As soon as I started walking I heard and felt a breathy, low pitched, gravely growl right behind me. I was too afraid to turn around, but I'm damn sure there was a wendigo behind me!! I feel so lucky to be alive honestly! I grew up hearing and reading stories about those woods, that I was NEVER allowed to enter. Around 3 am I had to take a p. My small fire was out so I turned on the red light feature on my head lamp and went to go when I heard my name called. It was mimicking a recent girlfriend and we had broken up. I knew immediately it wasn't her. I turned off the light and made it back to my bivy. It called out again. This time a bit closer. I already knew the rule. I heard some rustling but I kept quiet. I had about 3 hours or so before sun up. It was the longest stretch of time before the sky began to brighten. As soon as I could see clearly I packed up and hiked out. While I still to this day hike and fish that holler, I do not go to that spot after sunset.

I live in NC and my family owns a property in the mountains near Saura Town. The property originally belonged to a family in the early 1900's or late 1890's. The family died off one by one, the daughter burned in a campfire, the moter died from a heart attack, qnd the father died from falling off a very steep ledge behind pond. The area used to be an Indian camp where a battle happened because the chief's daughter was kidnapped. I didn't realize that folktale of Appalachia was true until i heard whispers in a language i didn't know coming from the bottom of slopes. I could tell i was being watchrd by something. Me and my grandfather went hiking to post property signs and we came to this old Indian graveyard, which was where the family was buried. I saw a humanoid thing fucking crawl from one tree to a bush on top a cliff and heard an orchestra of owls. Another time i saw things in the forest was when i went hiking and camping with a summer camp group in the Uwarrie*? Park when i set up a hammock in front of a very steep slope that probably went up maybe 80-150 feet and i saw things move during sundown.

So, 'tis the season, right? I listened to some stories about various Appalachian boogeymen. The main rules seem to be "if you hear a voice in the woods, don't answer", "if you hear footsteps behind you, don't turn around", "If you hear someone speak your name in the woods, no you didn't". Appalachian spooky amazing stories. But I'd like to submit this for eastern Oregon and Washington, something FAR scarier in my opinion ..... I've heard the same rules in some areas of Oregon, always those rules are regarding the mountainous areas of our great state. Not talking about "bigfoot". Here in East Oregon, bigfoot isn't a large part of our mythology. But that "thing" that you don't turn around to, the THING you don't run away from, that THING that cries like a distressed screaming baby during the night in the forest?? I've heard it twice. Once at night when I couldn't see it and that baby screaming sent chills up my spine during the dark part of the night in the deep woods. That baby screech when there's no moon, no light, runs right up your spine. Years later I saw one of THEM in broad daylight, and I heard it scream and mewl like a dying baby, and it made my skin crawl. ....Ignore it, ignore the screaming of that "infant", get to shelter and if you have a gun, have it loaded and ready. This predator knows how to "speak" to you, it knows human frailty, it waits with claws and fangs. It speaks the language of human weakness. And for that, it should be feared most among all the monsters of the night.
Yeah if you think you see what looks a little bit like a raccoon or a little bit like an owl but completely indistinguishable as either peeking out from around the side of a tree about 9-12 feet up. Just keep your eyes on it as you pass it. I lived in the forests of west virginia for 6 months. I worked a swing shift job at the time. So sometimes I was up at night for long periods at camp or even taking short hikes. Well yeah one night, I thought I saw something on this tree. Had my really good magnifyable flashlight on me zoomed it on the tree and it slipped behind the tree. I had to go that direction on my meaningless hike haha so I just summed it up as an animal. Well I kept my flashlight on the tree as I passed it and it was 15 feet off trail. No sooner than I passed the tree 5 feet I saw it tracking me from behind the same tree. Idk how to describe it honestly. I was armed, I have a very respectable nature with the woods and I feel like those spirits protect the woods so I wasnt scared. One I dont hear many people mention anymore tho is dont be out in the woods alone at 3am. It really is the witching hour. Cant say Ive noticed any correlation of weirdness with full moons but the full moon definitely adds ambiance if you are out at 3am.
I like to imagine and play along to legends, but can we have some actual footage of this phenomenon please. Can we document this and properly analyze it in order to make it real? I can’t wait to go to these mountains and whistle myself just to see that nothing will happen.

They must have some good drugs in Appalachia

What everyone is not being told is “ if you talk about haints you invite them into your life” good luck
I talk about God, that how I invited good spirits
In indian culture if here things calling your name and you look around for it, you have basically give it a signal you acknowledge it and things latch on to you. Also most of things are commonly near water.
Take it as is, I haven't run into this things in the woods but once in a while when I am home alone I hear my name and ignore it or imagination is faulty.
Wich Indian? South Asian or North American?
His name is Aman Singh. What do you think? Anyways I'm also an Indian from India but idk what this guy's saying trying to represent India. @@sycamoreresident7295
You talking East Indians? They have that happen to them?
@@ItsEzraRoan Nah, indigenous Americans. They've been living and dying here far longer than anyone else, and the land remembers that. You gotta be careful near river water cause that's michi-pichew or heent-sabit territory and make sure to get the hell out of dodge if you hear an owl during winter cause contrary to popular belief, wendigo are more owl than deer.
Out of topic, but is there anybody who ever hear ur name being called by your mother or dad at house, but turn out your parents not home ?
the same rules apply when walking through the ghetto if you don't live there 😂
The shadow beings. I heard many a stories from my elders about these beings. Even my dad has had experiences seeing them.
In India we believe don't turn wen someone asks things like cigarette food or offerings. Specially on highway.
Why?
Just go camp and realize all these folklores are your own mind playing tricks on you
Or campfire stories or just stories from crazy ppl lol.
Did you realize it or did you come to those conclusions. Cause we dont really know
Dont listen to this guy he is gonna get you killed i have seen it enough already
True, anything that is out to kill you wont make a sound, so really you are in the most danger when you think you are the most safe.
You couldn’t be more wrong it’s hilarious. Spend enough time out there. And I mean enough. Eventually things can happen/something will happen. For some more than others. I’ve had my fair share. Hope you get to experience it atleast once!
What if I have a shotgun

Coat pellets with white ash paste, burn and bury the body

This was a creature in the bonus episodes of Gravity Falls.
As a definite human Appalachian resident, I can deny this. It is perfectly safe to turn around, in fact, a human clown will be there to entertain you had have fun and give out candy. Again, I am human.
Sounds similar to the hoods of Chicago
This advice can and should be followed for EVERYWHERE! 😂 😅
If you are ever lost in the woods and people show up hollering your name just run very very fast deeper and deeper into the woods.
🤣🤣🤣
I've witnessed this with other people off the Appalachian trail
How about, just don’t go into the Appalachian Mountains? 🤷🏽♀️ hearing all these stories…Thats what makes the most sense to me…
This is why I go with at least with a rifle and pistol every time I go to the woods
Rifle AND pistol is a bit overkill and heavy. But, yeah, same here. I'm always with my pistol with spare mags or a rifle/shotgun.
Anyway, bullets and buckshot ain't much against the supernatural....
It’s called a hide behind. It hates the smell of moonshine
Is the Windygo of the Allegheny an Appalachian mountains
Pretty sure the wendigo is mainly in the northern areas toward the Great Lakes. In Appalachia it’s more feral people.
What if it was a hallucinogenic reaction to different species of mushroom spores within the Forrest air 😮.
While that could be possible in certain cases. It does not explain all possibilities. Far to many weird events to sum it all up to mushroom spores.
I believe it my dad an his brothers had some wild hunting story’s from up In VA
Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear.
It's called a hidebehind, not a lookbehind
it’s actually smart even if you don’t believe in that type of shit if you here a noise at night in the woods don’t investigate it
Jesus walks with me so I’m good
I am also christian but I cant stant the ignorance of some people thinking Jesus will save you from every entity that resides somewhere you were warned about. Everyone can fall for the tricks of demonic activity or ancient spirits and thats why we are warned not to f around.
Bruh I just found out that the Appalachian mountains runs through my whole county and I live in the woods and have been outside so much and at first I wasn’t scared cause I thought I didn’t live along the mountains but after I found out now I am
On the map my house loox like endless green fields and woods.just cos lot of this place has been farmed is it still considered the woods??
I regret watching these horror stories for 2 yrs. My lower body is paralyzed rn and i dont wanna move cuz i hear whispers along with my name in a low voice 😭😭😭
ITS NIGHT TIME
Hidebehinds hate the smell of moonshine. Other strong liquors might have similar warding effect
Really? That’s interesting. I would think it would have the opposite effect?

It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that. . .?"
😂😂😂 👌
From West Virginia here for once I'd love to hear someone that's not from Appalachia pronounce it like we say it appa-latcha or like the great author Verna mae slone who wrote ( what my heart wants to tell) who was from across the border in Kentucky wrote in that book say it like im gonna throw an apple atcha 😂,not the horse shit that Yankees say they say appa-lay-cha..so annoying...that would be like us sayin' no yorka instead of the obvious New York ( bad example) but mountain folks know what im sayin'!!!
Holy fuck lmao. I spent weeks hiking and camping through the Appalachians since my early 20s...now 40 and never once has anything people talk about happed lolll
As an Appalachian I’ve made my own rules to follow.
Rule number 1- when entering Appalachian, if you feel the need to enter the woods bring an Appalachian (preferably an old timer)
Rule number 2- follow the 8 rules of Appalachian
Rule number 3- don’t forget the rules 1 and 2
Sounds like a friendly neighborhood Bigfoot! If they watch you when you're outside talking to other people they'd know your name.
Yall are all doped out beyond belief 🤣🤣🤣 my god
This guy watch too many episodes of "Mountain Monsters"
Appalachian mountains are older than any others in the United States. That's all I have to say about that.
Everyone in Appalachia knows the rules 😆😂 Been here 42 years, all in the woods. This is raw stupidity

I think I would strap a camera to my back, then I could see if I caught something following me.
It’s called the Bracken from Lethal Company
I've seen this no way to this day I didn't know what it was until I saw this video
See, I always look around just for safety sake...how does that work..? So scary.
Is this an episode I can watch? I’m struggling to find it
I like to imagine and play along to legends, but can we have some actual footage of this phenomenon please. Can we document this and properly analyze it in order to make it real? I can’t wait to go to these mountains and whistle myself just to see that nothing will happen.
Don't want to burst the bubble but as someone who lives there this whole video is like a fairytale, fun stories to imagine but don't go running around thinking theres elves and dwarves
It gon have to do worse than call my name. Bitch I got hallucinations calling my name all the time
I have video taken on a iPhone in the middle of nowhere, miles from civilization of a black flash from right to left while I was filming the Sunrise. Looks like a glitch yet never happened before or since. Unaka mountain ( Beauty Spot ) Tennessee/ N.C. Border
