i rly dont like drama/negativity (i want a happy life and be more peaceful as time goes on for the most part esp as i get older) but i honestly didnt want to make that video 4 years ago (Was 5050 on not even including it in my book), i do honestly believe people can change but it might be me being too naive/nice (i try to give ppl the benefit of the doubt and chance to improve over time, usually, so when he apologized i knew that it may or may not be genuine but i decided to give benefit of the doubt cuz that's what i would want people to do for me and i think it's a better way to live [might also be how i was raised to give 2nd chances and forgiveness from mom's teachings etc, even though i don't always forgive everything people do especially when i was younger i wasnt the exact same as now, to be honest a lot of the time it's hard to tell if i should or should not forgive different people for different reasons and I don't always make the right decision]), but there's 1 thing I'm even more sure of my stance/opinion on, is that Hax should not be banned for LIFE, if we are using consistent/fair logic across various people, in my personal opinion. (Not saying he shouldnt have been punished, but i think 3 years was enough punishment in my opinion, and i think he's not gonna do anything to anybody as somebody who knows him personally for 16 years. And yes i do realize i might be biased and i accept and understand that part too). I know i get a lot of controversy and hate for this stance (always happens when with this topic regardless of which side you pick but especially if you ever go against the majority at any given point in time with how the internet is nowadays with bandwagoning etc which is a big reason I use social media like twitter reddit less often than in the past cuz it rewards/promotes mindless bandwagoning and negativity too much) but it's what i believe, and i don't think it's wrong to say/think that (i dont benefit off saying this at all btw, i just think most people dont want backlash/consequence so they stay silent, or go with majority all the time for self-benefit or their own safety/security).
I was so mad/depressed after I made my video 4 years ago i considered suing people but i decided against it cuz i didn't want to be that type of person but i was very back and forth on the idea. It is 1 of the reasons i moved away from the game and community although there were actually many reasons for that (i kind of miss the game and SOME people in the community though, and partially regret that now, but i was influenced/emotional about it especially then. I'm actually mad at the whole community at large for that, it showed me how fake everyone (not literally everyone but most people) is, and how easily they make a 180 stance change on people for better and/or for worse. I don't handle depression well and i often have heavy depression like the past 15 years now tbch to levels higher than most people can probably imagine accurately but I guess I'm too off topic now). Sorry for the ugly sentence structure just wanted to share some quick thoughts for those who cares (probably expecting negative comments at this point cuz that's what usually happens when I say these things publicly, but I think it's better than the alternative of saying nothing).
Do you think it was wrong of me to forgive leffen? I have heard a lot of people say I should not be forgiving it (he was not the only person involved though he's just the only famous person involved which is a thing people aren't considering though, the person who started it is even worse for it for example is something people aren't even considering and i don't even think he received a real punishment for it afaik[?]), and I don't want to be influenced by others but it happened so often it does make me think of it more and be less sure of myself on that than before. I thought forgiving people is usually the right thing to do, but I do admit that sometimes I make the wrong decisions on this (for better and/or for worse i make wrong decisions a lot). It it because of the person who i WANT to be today perhaps? Does it blind my judgment? Sometimes I don't know, and am not so confident on being right or wrong with this part (same with who i do and don't forgive over the years I am unsure sometimes if I make the right decision or not). (Unrelated - there are people who have done worse to me in total over the years that have never apologized or shown any amount of remorse, but that's very unrelated to this).
Do you think hax should be banned for *LIFE* even knowing how inconsistent the logic is in the community? (I think not for sure and I am very unlikely to be changing my stance on that part)

The Melee community is depressing , the world in general is, if you aren't depressed every now and then you're probably just an evil person IMO. Cuz the only ones who seem to be getting their way are the evil ones such as Leffen.
I know I'm being harsh but the fact that Leffen never bother apologizes for just about anything he does seems beyond insane to me. How hard is it for Leffen to apologize to people like Rocky or Hax or anyone he's wronged? He never wants to apologize, one day this dude will be humbled and not just in a videogame.

To understand the decline you need to understand that like Leffen many TO's and some top players are drama queens. M2K for all of his mental issues was 100% a normal player, he let trash talk roll off him and forgives people because that's what you do in the FGC (unless you are fake like Leffen) as the FGC is just dudes having fun ultimately.
M2K just kinda let it go, he could have been like the TO's and Leffen. Instead of leading a massive charge to take down those who did him dirty, M2K was the bigger man and decided to let it go. So the community (full of primarily normal people) followed M2K and let it go.

general life advice: when someone ALWAYS acts like the victim yet also comes across aggressively, interact with that person as little as possible.
Narcissistic abuse is real. Do a quick google search of narcissistic abuse signs, and just see how closely it aligns to Hax and Leffen. People need to be held accountable for their actions, regardless of their justifications for it. And there is no justification to dehumanize someone, to justify your own mistreatment of them. Other people are not responsible for other's actions.
Focus on what people did, not who people are. Watch how quickly what he did gets invalidated because someone IS something. Focus on what HAPPENED. That's the only way you win. With unconditional goodwill and objectivity. They are playing for power, while you play for good, if you start to care about who IS right or wrong, you lose sight of WHAT is right or wrong. Just focus on the what, don't get manipulated and confused by the IS. It's what they want.

Dude was not interested in a discussion, that's not even mentioning the fact that MANY PR Melee AND ULTIMATE players, even people who are done for now like M2K, support the decision to unban Hax. The reason that guy in particular gave me was that Hax isn't trustworthy, because he lied to him. It seemed more personal than logical; that's not me saying that it's devoid of logic. A lot of unbanned players and figures lied during the 2020 controversies and they weren't viewed as a danger that should be banned. And if I had to guess, it's probably cathartic calling out the terrible people in the smash community as well, since they would otherwise never be held accountable and their lies would likely never be made public. And of course this is how he makes a living.

First time watching a video by Technicals, and I have to say I am surprised. The reaction the melee community has about Technicals made me assume that these videos were clickbait and drama farming. On the contrary, you can tell that Technicals has put a lot of genuine thought and effort into verifying his claims and even reaching out to individuals for an interview. It is a shame a lot of members of the melee scene will not watch or consider any of the points brought up in this video when it comes to Hax's ban. Even if you don't agree with Hax being unbanned, I believe Technicals made an extremely great point about the ineffectiveness of the Smash COC, the community really needs to reconsider how they handle future cases to prevent something like this from ever happening again.
Yeah the reason people think of technicals that way is because the figureheads he goes after immediately just says not to watch it as it's a waste of time clickbait clout chasing video with nothing of value and people believe it.

@@felixdoyon6546 to be brief, she's insanely toxic. She was the main person for compiling this "300 person" list of smash players who committed crimes or bad offenses. Later on, we realized this was heavily doctored and many players that was on this list (M2K being included) were done out of spite or straight up lies. There were some problematic ppl in this scene, but she blew it so out of proportion that a ton of ppl got attacked, ghosted the entire scene, or had to defend themselves from lies.
While this was going on, she was loving the attention on Twitter and even started making tweets like, "I'm batman". Also, when Zero tried to commit su1cide, EE checked up on him, but Jisu made it this massive problem that by mentioning his name, it is triggering to her (eventhough she lied about the entire ordeal). There's other stuff I missed, but that was all from 2020-2021 when all this ish happened. I tuned out of the Smash scene around the same time M2k and others did, so I'm sure what else happened.

im not huge into fighting games but from what i know/have seen other fighting games got actually really solid communities where they respect one another and mostly are in it just to play and be good at the game.
im not following everything in the smash community in the slightest but somehow i always come across negative drama or worse sht if smash is involved. mostly i got no clue and only watch some events and sets of players i like but finding more and more out (by accident, i dont sesrch for this stuff) is sad because i like watching melee for like 6-7 years now but it starts to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
i think i should just ignore all that and dont watch the drama.

I'll get back to the age thing in a second. Other games also have support from the companies that created them, SF with Capcom, Namco and Tekken, and SNK with KoF. Even the FPS games, they cannot proceed without the authority of whatever people made the game to sanction a tournament series. Nintendo never gave a damn about the Smash community, so there were always less rules to the element. There is a hilarious live MLG broadcast of Melee being played with Hugs86 unprofessionally eating a slimjim into the microphone during commentary.
SF's community even when Capcom was less involved on the west, was during a time where there were adults and kids playing the game so to be cool you not only had to be good at the game, but you had to be able to stand your ground if you got pressed. Smash players would fold like fresh laundry and write a twitlonger to the least harmful amount of criticism. Alex Valle was the best in SF2 in his respective scene (I think NYC) at one point and still hovers around the scene, there was always a ratio of more adults/mature individuals after SF3's era into the modern era. Most of Smash's top players are in my age-range, 17-22. And even then, most of the players from Melee unlike SF2 didn't move on to Ultimate like SF's players moved on from their respective initial game. From Brawl onward, the community moved up and most of the brawl top 10 are banned which should tell you something about the older generation.
That still doesn't address why so many weirdos gravitate towards Smash technically, I think it's just because less rules means a safer space for degenerates.
Yes you shouldn't consume any kind of drama directly imo, if you like the game, enjoy the game. I don't think you should turn a blind-eye to drama whenever there is some because imagine if it were you getting accused of something and everyone was ignoring it? I just think you shouldn't actively seek it out or participate in it, personally. Because I don't do that, I'm subbed to many drama/commentary TH-camrs and the only time they ever come on is in autoplay. While what he said was weird w/ Leffen, it was mixed in with genuine and valid criticisms, but Leffen basically handwaved it by saying "I feel unsafe" which was probably a lie as what Hax said amounted to pretty much nothing. On the contrary, Leffen VERY heavily harmed Hbox's public perception, which you could very easily argue is a part of what got the crab incident to happen.

I'm a big M2k fan and Leffen used to be outright nasty to him between 2015-2016. A lot of the hate from Leffen to M2k probably stemmed from M2k being Leffen's bogeyman in Melee for quite some time. When Leffen finally started to win a few sets he used to shit-talk him, saying things like 'It would be hard not to 3 stock m2k nowadays' before M2k put the work in and 6-0'd him. I can also remember Leffen making fun of M2k being on the spectrum and other mean-spirited things. Again, you only have my word on this but with his bullying of Rocky, we all know he is capable of being cruel to people who are different. I don't have anything to gain from lying but I can't exactly pull twitch clips up from things that happened nearly ten years ago. Only Leffen knows his reasons for being cruel to m2k at that time but I suspect it's a similar story to his issue with Hbox. He was getting slapped around by these guys in Melee for a long time and his ego is fragile. When a normal person finally climbs over obstacles in an e(sport), they feel elation and relief, not contempt for their opponent. Leffen seems to feel hatred towards the guys that held him up for so long.
What I'm surprised at is that M2k didn't mention in the comments section is that Leffen had a huge hand in undermining the credibility of the company he part-owns, MVG. This company came in around the same the time as the likes of Panda iirc, and had huge ambitions to become a major player in the smash scene. They were new to the scene and if memory serves me right, they hadn't hosted a major before MVG Sandstorm in 2015, which experienced a host of technical issues. Hiccups happen for most companies at the start, no biggie. Leffen, probably fuelled by his dislike of M2k, ramped up the vitriol being spouted at the company on Twitch and Twitter. The credibility of MVG suffered as a result and they took a back seat on their ambitious plans. Perhaps they would have been able to recover if it weren't for Leffen pouring gasoline on the fire. Leffen made baseless insinuations that the co-owner, Greg, was shady and linked to Triforce/EMP, when in reality Greg actually compensated top players (like Westballz) at Sandstorm and from all accounts came across as a genuinely nice guy whose plans were just a little too ambitious at that moment in time.
Then there's other things like Leffen feigning being scared to attend tournaments because DaShizWiz was attending. Shiz had a criminal past but he hadn't made any interactions with Leffen that should have made him fear that Shiz was going to pull a knife out on him, which is exactly what he said he feared. This is another example of how Leffen has a history of playing the victim to get a player banned from the smash scene. Eerily similar to the situation with Hax, isn't it?
Leffen is a bully, plain and simple. Most people aren't built for constant confrontation and they yield to Leffen for the sake of a peaceful life. In the past, the people yielding were probably his peers in school or newbies on the smash scene. Now it's the smash TO's and decision makers. Hax needs to go? Sure thing Leffen, just don't attack me on Twitter. Air camp limit? Alright, just don't weaponize your teen subscribers into calling me disparaging names. Notice how Leffen goes on his angriest tirades when someone dares to not instantly concede to him in an argument.
That's probably why the 6-0 M2K video has been in everyone's recommended again.

Leffen story: I was watching him play Kingdom Hearts 3 and one thing he complained about was not understanding the story. I responded to something he said about it on twitter and he had admitted that he had not played any of the other KH games (of which there are like 5 games that directly relate to KH3). I said that it was like watching Avengers: Endgame without seeing any other Marvel movie up to that point. He basically said my argument was dumb and didn't make any sense and since I liked Kingdom Hearts I didn't deserve to have an opinion on games at all.
To be fair, Kingdom Hearts has a convoluted story that can be difficult to follow even if you've played them all.
That doesn't excuse Leffen being a dick, of course. But I sympathize with people who don't understand KH.

Organizing a timeline is as simple as retaining information from previous iterations in the series... which is how sequels work.
This is like getting upset at the Yakuza series for expecting you to play the previous entries, remember them, and calling it a flaw. If you jump into Yakuza 6 and get upset that you don't understand the references because there is over 5 games you don't remember - that is not a flaw of the game.

My point is, I think part of the problem is parents who stick an iPad in their children's face or give them too much freedom. It isn't always a bad thing though.
However, in the case of Leffen, a bunch of the homies and I sat through a recent stream of his for a lil while and we just saw him being rude to his chat over their Guilty Gear opinions; I wouldn't want to be treated like that if I were sitting in his chat asking questions. So, I think part of the reason he has fans or defenders is because they don't actively consume his content, they interact with him in person and he's been chill. It's that he's a bit of a terrorist in his free time or while streaming at home.

Its still insane to me that the very little hax did got him banned, and is still banned for years later. Meanwhile Leffen has done countless more, to more people, even after getting banned/unbanned kept acting horrible to more people and garnering them hate from the entire community and still is allowed to play smash. It makes 0 sense how a multiple time offender with a ban could still be unbanned while 1 of his victims is banned for sayin somethin stupid they immediately took back

Motherfucker isn't banned because of Leffen but because of himself. Dude had literally 1 rule to stay playing and it was to shut up about Leffen, and he kept going at it. He deserves that ban and Leffen is in his right to say he felt unsafe if a dude with known severe mental distress is obssessing over him.

Would like to say as someone who ordered and now owns a Frame1, that part annoyed me heavily. It took 2 years for me to get mine; in that time, I genuinely built a good physique at the gym, changed a career, moved out of my house and then back in, moved AGAIN, got a girlfriend, fell out of love with Melee, actually quit video games and I still didn't have it; none of that is a shit-post, it all happened. I tried canceling but nobody would answer so I ended up getting this controller I only used a few times just cause I would rarely casually play. I understand its not a big company but COME ON
Now that I have both a B0XX and Frame1, I also don't really see why either is superior. Feel-wise, they're different but nothing really is different in terms of playstyle, you only really notice the difference unless you're a massive technoweenie. Leffen only hated due to bias for sure. Any reason to order one over the other really comes down to how you like your controller to feel but I'd personally go with the B0XX just for the advantage in wait-time alone, my B0XX came in like half-a-year.

Hax should definitely "get help" and develop a healthier relationship with the smash community as many people put it on twitter, mainly its leadership. Your job (yes, it was his job), and the community dictating the environment you work in isn't the end all be all in your life and you should definitely be more open to other opportunities that come your way, and be your own man, not sucking up to Melee's clearly toxic and morally corrupt TOs. Even if Hax is unbanned, how long will it take until the smash community slips up again and we're back to square one, repeating other mistakes that trace back to ethically corrupt TOs and the disgusting echo chamber it fosters? The Melee community has an amazing game, as well as real some real good personalities in it, and it makes me sad to see that people like Hax, who have, in every sense of the word, given everything to this game and its community, get treated with little to no empathy by not only the community figureheads, but the playerbase as well, just because they can't risk someone with emotional baggage be in their scene (which is ironic since they deem that Leffen, who has exhibited far greater disrespect towards peers and attributed it to his mental issues is STILL welcomed in the community with zero repercussions). The TOs have made their double standards clear as day with the documents made to ban Hax. All I can glean from these documents is that "well Hax is pestering us to unban him and he's kind of being annoying about it and apologizing when its convenient while doubling down when it's not working out for him so he definitely hasn't mended his ways. Oh Leffen's ok though since we've never really had personal problems with him, and that's just GODDAMN DANDY". I sincerely hope that everyone here can see that its not just a problem with Hax and there should NEVER be a conversation about whether or not Hax is mentally sane or not when it comes to his ban. That's not the point. I don't see a single sentence in the entire smash code of conduct that designates a person's mental health and mental diseases as bases for being eligible to participate in tournaments, and be a part of the community in general. These people will gatekeep your passion and brand you with any label that fits their needs should you disturb their idea of a "healthy" status quo. People are acting as if what Hax did with evidence.zip 2 is on the same scale as the dude that tried to run over Technicals a few years back, YET EVEN HE (correct me if I'm wrong here) got a second chance, albeit reluctantly, to prove himself again in the eyes of the community. Surely the TOs weren't the same people in that situation, but the analogy still stands. Is someone really getting a second chance if you're not giving them the necessary conditions to prove themselves to you? Of course not. Instead, you'll only drive them to even greater lengths to appeal to you and end up with more nonsensical pieces of media like "The Truth", which is what got him permabanned in the first place. And no, I do not think that letting Hax on probation for a year, without any guarantee for an unban, makes it any better for the "He was already unbanned argument". This approach also doesn't take into account his already stated mental health into consideration, and how being deprived of his lifelong passion for such a huge amount of time would impact it even more (even if we were to ignore the fact that Leffen continued to sabotage his unban through his passive aggressive tweets).
Leaving aside the TOs, for a community with so many members with mental issues and baggage, the people telling Hax to go to a doctor or stay close to his family and friends, while disregarding that he's a human being with a right for personal goals and dreams just as much as you and I have can, as Zain put it in his tweet, "eat crap". Should we also ban everyone who comes out with being depressed or bipolar just for being a potential danger to the community, since these groups of people tend to have unpredictable behavior? Should we also negate any sort of chances these people have to prove their conduct INSIDE of the community and in-person, without any fine prints or strings attached to them, and instead keep them on a leash and continue feeding them breadcrumbs for years upon years? During my time on the 20XX discord, since I was thinking of grabbing a boxx because they look amazing, I've stumbled upon what I think to be the most egregious part of this situation. In one of the server's chats, all I see is people eager to call out Hax for not behaving according to the TOs guidelines, burning every bridge imaginable between them, not really taking accountability for past actions etc etc. Keep in mind this happens everytime Hax posts anything in that chat regarding his ban situation, his appeals to not only the TOs, but to the discord members as well. Although I also believe that no person should be behaving the way Hax is, mainly due to it being self destructive behavior, these people are out there actively responding to him by virtue signaling, making jokes about his situation, telling him to get a job or a life, a girlfriend and so on. And this is all sent to him in a way that implies that these people who constantly parrot the same things over and over about his mental health and issues actually care about him. If you actually cared about this man, you would just leave him alone, ignore him, or just straight up NOT MAKE JOKES about his situation. This behavior makes me absolutely sick to my stomach when I see it perpetuated with so called "good intentions".
This isn't just your favorite player and competitor, or figurehead for a movement on twitter. This is an actual person with feelings, needs, goals and aspirations that, when all is said and done, doesn't deserve to be treated like a joke in this manner. Would you, in all seriousness, make memes about someone that has clearly exhibited signs of hurting themselves due to the extreme circumstances they managed to get into, even more so if these circumstances were brought about by injustice (Something I think most of us can agree to, especially after watching this video)? If you don't believe that Hax should be unbanned, or if you don't believe that he is an honest or stable person and choose not to participate in this movement, that's all well and good. But until a conclusion to this story is reached, the best thing you can do for this man, if you REALLY care about him, is to leave him alone. Making fun of people with mental disabilities and then masquerading as being well-intentioned, when in fact most of these actions push Hax deeper towards his psychological disorders, makes you look worse than the TOs. At least the TOs and the people who legitimately knew this guy for years came to their own conclusions and narratives surrounding him, even if they were opportunistic and selfish. What do you know about him?
All in all, the smash community will definitely keep on destroying itself for years to come, unless something radically changes. The least we ought to do is treat people as people, give them the respect they deserve, and a right to a true second chance, without ever forgetting that they are not idols or characters in a book or a game. And I do think Hax deserves this right to a second chance more than anyone, despite his shortcomings and his instability. From where I see it, his passion, dedication and love for the game, coupled with the countless times he has innovated for the betterment of this community's quality of life, make the case for his unban far stronger than most of the reasons people advocate for "righteously" isolating him. If we were to "justifiably" remove people based on mental health and whether or not they did something as general as "getting help", then half of this community should be justifiably banned. Also, it might not be that way to everyone, but I don't believe Hax is kidding when he says that Melee is his life. Even though there's not much money to be made in Melee, this guy has found an occupation that he can give his whole self to, and maybe even help it reach far greater heights if given the chance to. Due to its grassroots nature, Melee's potential is limitless, and I sincerely believe that people with talent like Hax's are immensely valuable to the game's improvement. Having this much passion for something is something most of us could never even dream of, yet here we are actively stripping someone's right to utilize it for something beautiful, all while giving him throwaway advice like "get a job" or "find something else in your life". Although no one should ever put all his eggs in one basket like Hax, knowing that some people say stuff like that and paint Hax as subhuman, as if they could NEVER relate to him at all, honestly keeps me awake at night.

Hax should definitely be given a second chance without being ostracized for his state of mind and receive a genuine apology or acknowledgment of wrongdoing for what these people have done to him, from demeaning comments about his character to TOs stripping him of his livelihood. However, at the same time, I think he deserves better and should leave the Smash Community behind in search of other endeavors. Plenty of people in the community have wronged him for years with no proper accountability, and staying in such a contentious environment or echo chamber may hinder his personal growth and well-being. Forgiveness is subjective, but if I was in his position, I would want no association with players and TOs who’ve directly sought to generally paint me in a bad light and influence others to think in the same misguided manner.
