Many SC players are completely unaware of what Elite Dangerous is because they just don't see beyond SC. But the reality is that Elite Dangerous has been a complete game for 8 years, an immense game, full of playable possibilities, and that gives a complete gaming experience. And you are lucky because you have only been in SC for a year, but those of us who have been waiting for SC for 10 years see that the difference between the two projects is very, very, very, very big. With its successes and its mistakes, with its shortcomings and its possible improvements, the reality is that Elite Dangerous has been a finished game for 8 years and SC to this day is still just an unfinished project.
Precisely right: Frontier delivered a full space sim game and gave the community a far superior experience to Star Citizen for over half a decade. It’s only in recent years that the lack of development or investment has finally turned the tide such that there’s been a player exodus elsewhere. It’s a pity, but as you say: far too many SC players are too blinkered to actually consider that you can actually have an amazing experience playing Elite Dangerous for 100hrs+ easily, and without the 30k’s and variety of horrendously game breaking bugs that spoil many a gaming session.
I couldn't agree with you more. Not only that, ED is so playable, yes playable -- how my gaming standards have been lowered to this level my SC. I should have found this game earlier. Was indeed a bit blinded by all the promises CIG throws at us in SC for such a long time.
@@Foxyloxy.X I hear you Foxy, I’m yet to play ED because I have been playing gaming catch up finally working through the Mass Effect (legendary edition) series and a few other such classics. As a fairly hardcore SC player (past tense), I’m very interested therefore in your experiences with this, and it’s a fantastic series of videos for me.
@@Foxyloxy.X You need to go to the nav beacon and scan it to get the whole star system's map. it is not automatically available. or you can buy the system map while in a station nearby. to do that, go to the star map and select the star system. you will see an option to buy its map there.
So glad you are enjoying this game. My brother got me hooked on Elite several years ago. I sped through the tutorial, then spent most of the week in either multicrew or a wing with him so I had someone to show me the ropes from the start. I am loving these videos. Watching you take your first steps in this game and seeing how excited you are over it is giving me nostalgia. Thanks for bringing us along on the journey.
Not yet, but when you are ready.... first HOTAS. And when you're comfortable with a HOTAS. The ultimate...VR. This was the most amazing experience I have ever had in any game in my life.
"Flight Assist" is something worth looking at. By default it's on, turn it off for true neutonian physics. So you can turn the ship whilst moving in a different direction. HCS VoicePacks using Voice Attack is amazing for voice control of the ship. Loving your content, and welcome to the black, Commander o7
13:54 do you see that strange big gap between second and fourth planet? That's where the 3rd planet is located... You just haven't discovered it yet. If you have transport mission, try scanning nav beacon, after you jump into that system to get a full map of that system. Or you can use full spectrum scanner, but it's completely different story on how to use it.
You need a discovery scanner to find things you haven't flown to. Something else that isn't obvious is that your 'missing planet 3' might be on the other side of the main star. The system map just shows relative order of things from the star and not where they are in their orbits! If you duy an Advanced Discovery scanner, you can use it when you first arrive in a system to 'discover' all bodies within the system.
@@FlakMagnet123 there's no such thing as advanced discovery scanner - maby there was in the past, but currently from what i know it's on every ship that you buy as stock equipement
@@FlakMagnet123 The ADS no longer exists (circa 2019), it was replaced by the FSS which is now standard on all ships. The FSS requires a bit more work to use so if there is a beacon present it is much easier to scan that. That said, if you enjoy using the FSS like I do you can get rather quick with it and quickly scan most systems in under a minute or 2 depending on size.
Glad to have you aboard CMDR and happy to hear that you are enjoying it. If you'd like some great TH-cam videos to learn more about Elite, might I suggest searching for Yamiks, ObsidianAnt, and/or Down To Earth Astronomy. They have some great videos for beginners as well as for veteran players. Also, you may look into Elite: Dangerous Odyssey if you're interested in additional content that is on foot. Also, please do not hesitate to ask the community for help as most are happy to help. May you have a wonderful journey in Elite Dangerous! CMDR Reiwyn, signing off.
Thank you for the comments, the game is amazing even though it has been out for a long time, but even better is the community for this game. Much appreciated!
Here is a good tip, In the galaxy map set route to fastest route jumping the max your ship can jump. Its automatically set to economic only jumping to the closest star. Will save a lot of time traveling. Also make sure you equip the biggest Fuel Scoop your ship can handle. You can refuel your ship from the stars and never run out of fuel. IF in the event you do run out of fuel, you will need someone to fly out to you to bring you some either a friend or you have to contact the Fuel Rats. They are like the Triple A roadside assistance in game. They will bring you some fuel to get you to the closest station. They have a website you need to use in order to get in contact with them. But make sure all ships are equipped with some kind of fuel scoop. even if its not the best, its better than nothing.
17:14 and that you have a rebuy... Never fly without a rebuy. Ex. If you have 5 thousand credits, and you have 1 thousand rebuy on current ship, then you never, NEVER spend more than 4 thousand credits, unless you get more of them in the meantime. If you die in a ship without a rebuy - unless you get a loan - you had just lost that ship. It's gone. Forever.
I literally spent a full week playing ED just jumping from one system to the next to get as far from the starting area as possible. To me, that was the most fun. If you can fully scan a new system that no other player has scanned, and it contains valuable data (e.g. life-bearing planets, water planets, etc.) you can sell that data for huge sums of credits when you do finally return to civilization.
Just be very very careful not to die on your way back to "bubble" (area of the galaxy where human colonized star systems are) or you are gonna loose all. I suggest doing it in solo play mode, as there are gankers too on game.
Not inhabited is not the same as "not habitable." A big part of exploration is finding those super rare "earthlike" planets in uninhabited space for potential future habitation.
@@Foxyloxy.X Earthlike worlds for habitation, water worlds for potential life, and metal rich worlds because how else are we going to manufacture giant ships and space stations? If you get the chance, I would suggest outfitting an exploration ship, especially one with a planetary vehicle hanger and a detailed surface scanner, and just go out and do some exploration of some high metal worlds, you can not only get some really cool scenery, and it can be a lot of fun driving an SRV, but can also farm materials you'll need the materials you find there for engineering and manufacturing things later. If you can, get a ship that can hold 2 SRVs or more, that way you can have a Scorpion for fun and a regular SRV for actually finding materials.
The modes of travel in elite are normal space, super cruise and jumping from star to star. Supercruise is intra system flight. The model is based on the compression and stretching of space in front and behind the ship. The maximum speed of "sc" is 2001c. Which of course is a lovely nod to a space odyssey 2001.
For better turning, you can use your lateral and vertical thrusters along with pitch and roll to speed up your turns, you can also turn flight assist off and fly it like a real space ship which gives you much faster turns, but that takes practice.
Welcome to the game. :) ED has the benefit of procedural generation (lots of systems) but also the downside since there is a bit "sameyness" once you've seen a good number of systems. Also note that humanity (and its stations and settlements) is only in "the bubble" and not the whole galaxy. (But the bubble has something like 20,000 systems, I think). A few months ago, the developers triggered a Thargoid war (they are the main aliens in the game). Beginners cannot handle Thargoids, so you'd have to learn some combat first. Or you can choose to avoid them. You don't have to fight them. :) ED does not have a guided story, but there is plenty of lore, if you are interested in that. Good luck!
To turn around fast you can use "flight assist off", this is game mode for "auto centering" devices like joystick. But you can setup key for it, so you boost, FA-OFF, turn by mouse, FA-ON. But better way is to fly backward and by other finger press periodically "engine to zero" button (I set space). and correct rotation. My mouse does control of the ship in screen space too. So you should be able keep enemy in front of you then.
true, but fa off is not very recommended for new commanders that havent even got that used to even flying their ship normally. Generally though, the faster you get into fa off , the faster you learn how to use it properly
@@bladestech Yes, except small detail - FA OFF is for auto-centering device. If you don't use such - it will be nightmare. They added key bind though to make mouse "not auto centering" meaning, it should be set to auto-center by default. Then FA-OFF is not so hard.
According to ED fandom wiki, "As of Jan 2022, only 0.05% of the galaxy, or exactly 222,083,678 unique star systems, had been explored" TIP: When you discover a new star system and scan it "fully", when you return back to the bubble (= civilisation / where you are right now) and sell the data, your name is permanently added next to it for others to see ;)
A tip for supercruise: stay away from mass. The game has an interesting mechanic whereby the closer you are to any mass, the slower your speed. This means that a straight line is often *not* the fastest way from A to B. In general it is more effective to get out of the orbital plane so as to go faster. If you are travelling to a planet on the far side of the star system you are in, flying in an arc that keeps away from the star will be much faster than flying straight past the star in a straight line.
So if you want to visit Sol, you must earn a rank in the Federation, you must earn the rank of Petty Officer in the Federal Navy, the easiest by getting that rank is doing courier missions from a missions giver that is aligned with the Federation, there are 14 ranks in the Federal Navy, if you want to see the sol system, you have to complete doing these courier missions for the Federation (idk if anyone already said this, if you did, I'm very sorry), there are a few videos on how to get a federal rank in no time, I'd recommend you to watch one video that gives you the good explanation of doing the federal rank grind, this also counts for the Empire, a few ranks give you system permits and ships, and some don't, I hope your enjoying the game as much as I do, fly safe commander, you're part of the community now, o7
You'll find pitching to be a lot easier when you move your throttle gauge into the blue zone. Also becomes much easier with upgraded and engineered thrusters.
9:33 I have 400 hours in Elite, never even knew you could do that... I also dont play combat, I tend to prefer running trade routes and exploration, but I'll definitely look into that for the future.
At 7:54, there's no separate keybind for supercruise. Assign one because if you're leave a planet to jump to another system and the destination is obscured by anything (such as a planet) the default toggle frame shift drive button will not allow you to enter supercruise.
As a veteran Elite player I can recommend that you should backup the file for your keybindings. If you for some reason don’t have the same controller plugged in it will wipe your bindings. You can then paste a copy of the file into the keybinds folder and restore everything.
fuuggg YT deletes every single comment I try to make, so in short: look into creating your own custom keybinds profile that won't get deleted with any game updates ever. People only lose their settings because it's the default file that gets reset with every patch.
Very happy to see a new player enjoying ED so much! I've been playing for a few years, and I still learn new things all the time....there is a lot to learn! For instance, when you were taking pirate bounty missions (not sure if it was this video) the reason why some kills counted for several missions, but not for all of them is because when you take missions from a particular faction to kill pirates of a particular faction, those happen sequentially...the kills count for one mission at a time. If you have missions given by other factions to kill the same pirates, those happen in parallel. For example, two missions from faction A to kill faction X pirates, and one mission from faction B to kill faction X pirates...you kill a faction X pirate, and one mission from A gets a kill credited, and so does the one from B, but the second mission from A doesn't...that won't get kills credited until you complete the first mission from A. I hope that's clear. There is a 3rd party app for keeping track of multiple pirate masacre missions (www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/v6qny0/od_massacre_mission_stacker_v17/). Note that there are several really useful 3rd party web sites as well...check out inara.cz/, coriolis.io/, and cmdrs-toolbox.com/. There are others, but those are good places to start. O7!
Nice, glad to have another content creator for this great game! I started on the console and that experience sucked as there just isn't enough input to control things properly, or enjoyably. I switched to PC and got a Virpil alpha and that opened up things a lot and it's been a blast since. Looks forward to more of your adventures!
I had a whole triple Elite life on the PS4. As VR never came to the Playstation, I switched to PC. I didn't bother to transfer anything. I started fresh in a stock Sidewinder, now in VR. I almost shit my pants pulling the trigger on my first Anaconda in a High Resource Site. My recommendation: if you can afford it, get a Hotas and go VR. There is currently nothing that compares to Elite Dangerous. You will appreciate the different ships so much more than looking at very similar controls all the time on a flat screen.
There's no third planet because you haven't scanned it in FSS. While in system map, go down to points of interest, third icon on the left from bottom, it looks like a map marker. From there look for settlements and then look for Alten settlement. It'll be under settlements for a Horizons settlement or Odyssey Settlements if it's an Odyssey settlement. You can plot a route to it via there but it'll show as unknown in your nav panel until you get close as you haven't discovered it yet.
I just go to the Navigation Beacon and scan it in cases like this, as well as all planets and bases, it also has the advantage of showing current signal sources.
Most systems have planets you can land on, drive your SRV on, get out and walk around on. You can scan plant species too, to make some very good money.
Also, you can bind Flight Assist (hold) to the spacebar. When the enemy flashes by, hold space and pull back on the stick. Then release space when you're facing the right way. You'll still be going backwards, but you can fire on the enemy. I recommend you change your mouse to use Yaw for left/right, and then use the keyboard for Roll instead.
a nice few tips while travelling: - unless you want to stop at stations and refuel all the time (checking beforehand if systems are populated) make sure you install a fuel scoop on your optional internals so you scoop the hydrogen stars eject to refuel "but what stars can i refuel from? can i refuel from all of them?" you might ask, the answer is simple! KGB FOAM are the star types you can refuel from (thinking something like "the KGB made FOAM" could work for example, whatever helps you remember), then you have to fly a bit close to the star (dont fly straight into it, fly close to it) in supercruise mode, the refueling will start automatically (when the fuel intake is maxed you can make your throttle 0, in supercruise u still move at 30km/s on 0% throttle so you are still moving even if it looks like you arent, you could also continuously circle it, whatever you prefer) once you are all fueled up you may continue your journey, again, dont get too close to the star and beware of your ship's temperature! - in case you havent done this, in the map, on the left side you can change your route settings, by default it's on economical which saves a lot of fuel but will make you take a long route of small jumps to reach the destination, change it so it's a quicker path (beware of your fuel, hence the tip above) - if the route path is a continuous line, you'll make it with the fuel you have, if at some point it's segmented lines (- - - - - -) it means you wouldn't have enough fuel to make it from there on, make sure you've refueled before you reach said line! always better to have as much fuel as possible because you could run out of fuel in supercruise too! fly safe friend o7
@@Foxyloxy.X To remember the scoopable stars, I prefer "O, Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me", because it's a proper sentence and also it's ordered by spectral class, from blue-white to red. When scooping, I strongly recommend to turn on orbit lines, either via the ship-menu on the right console, or via keybinding, to avoid coming too close to the star. Also, you don't necessarily hand yourself in to remove a bounty, you can also pay it off at an "Interstellar Factor" (under a station's contacts), for a small extra fee. Use Inara to find a station where one is available. Also, if the faction that issued the bounty is present in the system, you won't be able to pay off the bounty in that system. And you might need to get rid of any notoriety first.
@@danielschuett I heard "KGB FOAM" and knew that I will never forget the scoopable stars ever again. Just the idea of a KGB foam party is something that burned forever into my brain.. :D
Modules for ships are finite like stock in any shop, if you saw something yesterday and there was only stock of one (You cannot see the stock levels) and somebody else comes along and buys it, it'll be out of stock when you go back. Stocks are updated every Thursday during server updates.
It’s fun watching your learning curve….. I have played on and off for 5 years and recently returned…. The exo biology is another interesting part of the game, and gives you the opportunity to use your SRV…. Then you’ll get into material collection for engineering to get your modules upgraded and then your jump distances will improve…. Then there’s AX (alien) combat…..
i bought the game a few days ago ,played for like 2.5 hours because my girlfriend give birth to our son so haven't got the time to play it .but yeah from those 2 hours i can say this game is sick and you really need a lot of patience with rhis game .but for me its the most immersive en beautiful PCVR space sim game ever!
Many of us use Voice attack and HCS Voice Packs along with Elite Dangerous to give verbal commands. Look into it and make your game that much more enjoyable. The one commander who suggested "Night Vision" was me. Thanks for the kudos :)
Such a good video.))) For me, who have... 4.5k hours in Elite, and still play and enjoy, this was bring up so many memories. My first week was wery careful, i fly only to small distances with small amount of cargo, and learn basics in safety)) Becouse from beginning, I set myself a goal - do not die, becouse i dive and roleplay when i'm in elite.)) And since then i dont, in all my hours I have only 14 insurance claims, and i get them when go to jail was considered as insurance claim. :) But except one actually... once i have bug in the station, when my ship stuck at first, and after few seconds just blow up. It was very embarrassing, but atlist Frontier's support give me back credits for that insurance XD
@@Foxyloxy.X In general, according to the description of the game, we do not die, but are saved in an escape pod. So it really doesn't matter that much. However, this style of play has led to many adventures, and I do not regret a bit that I chose it. )))
Use boost to turn quick. Keep the speed in the blue level for max maneuverability. I’m sure Flight Assist off was mentioned in on of the comments below. And yes, the game supports virtually all controllers out there. Been to the other end of the Milky Way. With other players I joined an organized exploration “Distant Worlds 2”. Dr. Kay, with a PhD in astrophysics, developed the Stellar Forge - the system simulating the Milky Way.
I can't remember my first week playing as I was a Kickstarter backer ten years ago, and I played the alphas and betas. I think I elected to start from Lave with a Cobra Mk III which was a kickstarter reward. Weird to think that Star Citizen was kickstarted at the same time and it still isn't properly done yet. Was anyone else here at the launch party at RAF Duxford?
Its amazing to explore out in the Black! But it takes some time to build up proper equipment. Currently like 40k ly away from the bubble, also needs time to get there xD.
Some more special hints: if you go to a planet ring and search a mining place you will find working miner ships and local patrol forces. If you wait a little pirates will come for mined materials so they won't attack you. In this way you can choose your targets even if they are stronger than you because the patrol force will join the fight. The best thing you don't have to finish your targets to get paid, it is enough to hit them once at least. If you do missions for the same group/company in a system continously then your salary will rise time to time for the same missions. For example I am a friend of a group so I can transport a passenger group for 5 M credits and I have more than one passenger cabin (it means more transportable group at the same time) in my ship. In this way with one transport round I can earn around or more than 10 M credits without any danger. Of course you can choose those passengers who want to go to the same direction. But be careful there are missions in each category which are dangerous try avoid them at first (wanted passengers, illegal transport goods in the aimed system, etc.) You should pay attention for improving your ship especially if you love danger (fe. fight). Better shield, power plant, weaponry, hull, etc. If you want the best parts for your ship you should search hi-tech systems. There you can find higher grade stuffs. And if you buy every A grade equipments and think your ship can't be better, you should visit engineers who can upgrade higher your A class stuffs. It's up to you of course. Just keep going! :-)
I'm impressed at your ability to fight in external camera mode. I never thought that would be practical. Of course you'll be missing out on shield and hull info and weapon pips and all that but it does look awesome for your video!
Indeed, because I am doing a video I want to record some more cinematic footage of combat in third person, but I should be careful with my shield and hull
Taking this in the order of your video: 1) You’ll find that you need to do a lot of external studying to get all you can from ED. This is why some people call it a second job. 2) Yes it’s a 1:1 “replica” of the Milky Way galaxy. 3) Sol is indeed the home system for Earth, but you can’t enter the system until you get a permit. (Look up the requirements). Earth is NOT, however, a landable planet. 4) Most star systems are not inhabited, but many COULD be if the game allowed. Most of the inhabited systems are in “The Bubble” which is a roughly spherical area around Sol and the starting systems. 5) to get to those star systems out there, you will want a better ship. Both the hull and the internal components. 6) It’s tough to wrap your head around how VAST a solar system is if you zip across it in seconds like in other games. ED really puts you into the right headspace that interplanetary travel, even going faster than light, is going to take a while. 7) 3 ”speeds” is all you get. “Normal” (sub-light), “Supercruise” (near-light to approx 200x light), and “Witchspace” (jumping between solar systems at 1000’s of times light) 8) ED has one of the steepest learning curves out there because it just doesn’t explain most things to you. You HAVE to learn by failure or extensive external study. 9) You’re using FlightAssist, which is keeping you from turning faster, but helping you to turn and control smoother. It keeps you flying more like a jet plane than an actual spacecraft. With it off, you will continue to drift in the direction you were traveling even if you turn the ship. Practice both, especially if you enjoy combat. 10) ABSOLUTELY change your key binds to fly your ships the way that is most comfortable for you. And depending on what system you use (PC, etc) you can absolutely use different controllers. 11) Explore the control options. Things could be organized better, and some options are not where you would expect them. Almost everything is, however, configurable. And there’s loads of things that don’t already have keybindings. 12) Nightvision creates a wireframe for objects over your HUD. ESPECIALLY useful when landing on the dark side of a planet, as your headlights won’t show the surface fast enough for you to react. 13) Power Management = PIPS. Depending on your ship components and your environment, these can be set and forget or vitality variable. 14) Pay off your fines and bounties and you are no longer a wanted individual, you generally don’t even need to hand yourself in. Even piracy can be done without becoming wanted, if you know how. 15) “Missing Planet” is because your ship’s computer hasn’t registered it yet. It’s undiscovered, and that’s why you have a huge gap in the map. Time to learn exploration techniques. (Or visit the Nav Beacon in inhabited systems) 16) Yes, the game is dynamic. What you can buy and sell changes, who owns stations (even entire systems) changes, and everything you do impacts the game (to more or less degree, depending on what you do). This is called the Background Simulation or BGS, and there are groups that choose to play this game from a macroscopic level, manipulating the BGS to their benefit. So far, you’ve only played at the microscopic level, which is what most players do. 17) Dying has consequences. Know before you go. 18) Cobra Mk4 early player bonus. 19) Don’t try to buy every ship unless you are a completionist. And even then, why? There’s no “achievement” for it. 20) Don’t buy ANY ship until you have enough money to buy it 3-5 times over, because you have to outfit that ship to make it useful, and many times the modules you have won’t fit the new ship. 21) You’ll often hear that SC is an inch wide but a mile deep and ED is a mile wide, but an inch deep. While I can’t say anything about SC (having never played myself), I can tell you that anyone who thinks ED is only an inch deep has barely scratched the surface.
Thank you for all these detailed tips! I read them one by one, and they will help me immensely as I continue this journey. And for you last point, it is hard to compare a finished and well developed game with something that is still in development with no end in sight. And ED's learn curve is steep but that is what makes it fun and worth learning and going for the long run. Thank you again for all these tips. Already Screen shot it, so I can go back to them.
Great series dude, the reason you couldn't see the third planet was because you hadn't fully scanned the system or its nav point. Sometimes you can buy the system data from the galaxy map too. o7 :)
There is a way. Using Pulsars to over boost your drive. But you need the parts and a map of the pulsars to plot a course to where you trying to go. When you get the Anaconda, everywhere is possible
You can use any controller to fly, I use a X56 Hotas to fly and an Xbox controller for on foot missions. I also use an authorised third party program called voice attack for verbal controls.
at the end of this video, i saw you trying the fighter, i saw that you have one with AX Multicannons, those AX Weapons are only effective against alien ships, and probrably useless against human ships, keep that in mind also is nice to see you having fun with this game, i played for almost 1000 hours already, i really like elite dangerous.
I use Thrustmaster T1660M plus TWCS THROTTLE. So many buttons and axis to map for each hand. Part of returning after year to this game is remembering what function i mapped to these devices. I can fly, fight and control different scanner now, next step is relearn how to control ground vehicles and some datails about mining.
Turn on your opponents quicker by using the mouse up and thrust down (f default I think) or mouse down and thrust up (r default I think), you can also press 'z' to disable flight assist to try and avoid missiles and dodge being rammed, also in flight controls you can set a key to 75% throttle (helps if you don't have supercruise assist, to not miss your target). The missing planet just requires flying over there to discover it, or scanning it. There are some places which sell all ships and all modules.. look for I SOLA (i sola prospect) or Jameson memorial comes to mind (Shinrarta Dezhra) and there's another I've heard of... I don't think I've visited called Hutton Orbital, probably others too.
If you can't find a system with the FSS circle-clicking minigame for inhabited systems then you can go to the Nav Beacon, target it, and point your ship at it for a few seconds and it will populate your full system body list.
Supercruise: Top speed in SC is 2000c. That's 2000 times the speed of light. ANY ship can go that fast, but it will take a while to get there as acceleration is very slow, and affected by gravity wells. Flying around stars or other bodies will slow you down. You will know you're in a planets gravity well when you see the white ripple rings around a planet. You can use SC to fly to other star systems, but it will take a while and you will need a LOT more fuel. Long trips just need more fuel. Either add a fuel tank or a fuel scoop. You scoop fuel from stars in class O, B, A, F, G, K, and M ("Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me" to remember) You can filter for _only_ these stars in the galaxy map, and route plotting will only take you to these stars to refuel. Scooping stars builds heat, so try to be quick and don't get too close. Stay outside the yellow Exclusion Zone ring on stars or your FSD will shut down and you will likely burn up. Control Mapping: You can _absolutely_ use your virpil with ED. I would even go so far as to say you should use a six-axis control set, such as a HOTAS or HOSAS. You can fly with KBM, but it will be like running a marathon with broken legs. ED will let you assign up to 32 functions to a controller. You might check out Down 2 Earth Astronomy's channel, he has a full Virpil setup and does reviews and How-Tos. Maneuvering: Every ship has a "turn speed". The blue-shaded arc in the speed indicator arc is your maneuver speed. Set your throttle to keep your speed in the center of that blue arc for your best turn rate. Using boost will also boost maneuverability. So boost turns are a thing. That's why power management matters, your power plant and power distributor supply power to your engines. If it runs down you won't be able to boost until it recharges. How many "pips" you have in engines also determines your top speed when flying in normal space (Not using SC). See more here: th-cam.com/video/sguryN2QFS0/w-d-xo.html If you think _this_ is a lot to take in, wait until you start looking at Engineering to modify some of your ship's components to increase jump range, increase speed, increase armor, or modify weapons. That's a whole other rabbit hole. o7 Commander. Good luck.
First important tip: Sell that Asp Scout IMMEDIATELY, and never get another! Get Asp Explorer instead. Or if you don't have enough credits for AspX, Diamondback Explorer is good too, if you're into exploration. And I recomment that you at least sometimes are, as I myself loved exploration early on in a game. You don't need heatsinks to avoid scanning (YOU CRIMINAL!) if you use silent running instead. And safest place to pay your fine is called Interstellar factor which you can find on map filtering. Also on stations where that faction is present who ship you shot. Sometimes that action tends to send you to jail even for a small fine, so I use mostly IF's. But those missfire bounties happens all the time as NPC ships have a tendency to fly always between you and your target, so: Not a biggie. If you enjoy bounty hunting, you get more bounty out of most kills if you buy a device called Kill warrant scanner. If that particular bandit has pending bounties on another systems and/or factions too, you get those too. Use it BEFORE you engage, as its a bit slow to use. And remember that you get bounty with all the ships you just shoot at, even if system security ships kill those shups, so you dont have to kill those all just by yourself.
I've not read all the comments, but if someone already answered, I'm sorry. Anyway, that third planet you were missing, you need to scan the star system first, then it will appear on the system map. It should already be in the your left hand panel though, just called 'Unexplored' (or something like that, I can't remember what it says exactly). I was a Kickstarter Backer, so have been playing ED since Alpha, and I love it. I couldn't play it without a third party app called EDDI though, as that adds so much more immersion to the an already immersive game. I could never really get along with SC, I found it too... 'limiting'... with it's scope, and buggy as hell. But that was a year or two ago since I last tried it, and I know it's better now than it was back then. I'm an early backer of that too, before it reached $20 million in funding.
Unless you are really into keyboard and mouse control, a flight stick or game controller makes the game much easier, especially with voice control (eg voice attack). Elite has many profiles for different controllers, but they can all be customised to your preferences. I spent 3 years with an xbox controller, but now use a logitech X52 pro. Also VR in elite is the best.
You can use eye tracking and voice attack with Elite Dangerous. They were there from the beginning before they got to Star Citizen. Flight wise ED is far superior to SC. I know that will upset a lot of people but it's true.
It's so weird to me that you're shocked by how big the game is, but that's because of my own naivete. This is my first space simulation game and to me, "Of course it's the whole galaxy" was my first thought when I was told it was a 1:1 sim of the Milky Way. I feel like any space MMO should aim for the whole galaxy as a minimum play area. It's wild to me how small Star Citizen is.
@FoxyloxyX You need to go to the nav beacon and scan it to get the whole star system's map. it is not automatically available. or you can buy the system map while in a station nearby. to do that, go to the star map and select the star system. you will see an option to buy its map there.
No he dont!? Isn't "honking" enough to reveal everything on a given system? And rest you can find out with FSS and detailed surface scanner, if needed.
@@timppaUT not all systems have that. go to the edge of the buble and you will understand. when you open the system map you will see like 2-3 planets where in fact there are let's say 7-8 planets. you can notice it by checking the planet numbers. [star system] 1, [star system] 3, [star system] 6. this indicates there are planets missing in your map.
@@timppaUT honking doesn't give you all planets, that's what I'm talking about. Unless you are doing discovery, which is literally finding planets 1 by 1. Even in a previously discovered system. Because you don't have the cartography, which you can buy. Do you even read before writing a reply?
@@mzyil From ED wiki: "The Discovery Scanner is an integrated scanner module used to instantly identify all astronomical objects within an uncharted star system." Go away, troll, and instead YOU should learn to read!
Traveling in-system(supercruise), you go over Hundreds of times (faster than) the speed of light. When you're actually jumping between the Stars, you go Thousands of times (faster than) the speed of light.
Elite. Wide as an ocean deep as a puddle and a cliff for the learning curve. Fly physics are unmatched imho. The game shine on vr with a decent throttle and stick configuration.
Places that they sell things don't really change that much if at all. There's just so many different places that you can buy the different things that you thought you remembered going there but you didn't. We've all(Elite Dangerous Players) been there, as far as thinking that we had been somewhere before, that really we haven't/weren't.
If you want to travel outside the bubble, you will need a ship made for it. I could recommend the Adder, Cobra MKIII, Diamondback Explorer, ASP Explorer... You just need to buy the best FSD for it, and experiment for the rest, i don't want to spoil the discoveries you could make :D
The Dolphin is also a good explorer. Jump range is a little lower, but you literally cannot overheat it. If you are going out into uncivilized space, highly recommend you buy an AFMU as well. It will allow you to do some repairs to damaged modules on the fly.
@@no1baggiefan An Anaconda's also 100+ million. And it's in the range of 250 million to Exploration outfit w/o engineering. There's a big difference between being the best jump range and a good exploration craft. The DBX is as capable and VASTLY cheaper to outfit.
@@no1baggiefan Assuming you know what you're doing. Most 100 mil + guides require big ships or long distances. The rich get richer. For someone who was using footage of an Eagle and an Asp S, sure we could ruin the fun and point out the most optimal maneuver would be to get a type 6 and trade out high value commodities up till you can safely trade up blah blah blah. But not only is that horrendously detrimental for the fun of the game, it's also taking someone from an interactive museum and putting them in the factory line. And again, for what purpose? An Anaconda's 2.5 hours of work just to get the 73 light year version. That doesn't include the GFSD booster. No CG class 6 FSD. No G5 tuning. Comparatively, for like 6 million more than the cost of that Asp in the video you can fully load out a DBX and get a nice comfortable 64 light years. Something that won't take a grind and you can accomplish at a leisure pace. Or go up to an Asp X and get a pretty solid all rounder ship to do a little of everything.
Don't worry about the Cobra Mk IV, you are not missing anything. It's slower than the Mk III without being better at anything except perhaps mining, and there are plenty of better mining ships you can buy (Python or Krait Mk II for example).
Step one: Spend that $25-$35 on a logitech extreme 3d pro. Not the absolute BEST stick on the market but absolutely WORTH picking up for the price. Step Two: Voice Attack/ HCS Voicepacks. The HCS is mainly just voiceovers like a Star Trek computer but comes with good presets for Voice Attack. Being able to control your take offs, landings, gear, shields and WAY more with just your voice...omg game changer. Step 3: VR Headset, I myself haven't reached this step yet, but I hear there is really no substitute for immersion. Kind of pricey yet but I think the Occulus Rift 2($299??) may work here, not a HAVE to have but you can use it on other sims to justify it ;)
I find it far easier to use Q and E to roll. It makes the mouse controls far more manageable. Check the distance to the delivery point before you take the mission to avoid long in system hauls. You can buy all upgrades and ships in the Brestla system. You should start using Inara, it's an invaluable tool and will open the game for you. My first week was confusion and frustration!
Ever need any help let me know I've been playing elite since it 1st come out so long time glad you like the game also once you get more money and a better frame shift drive you will get around much easier plus the engineering
How to say it to you... ASP scout is the MOST USELESS ship in the entire game. Whatever you want to do with it - there's better ship to do it in his price range. Want to explore? Use a Diamondback. Want to Fight? Well then vulture is much more suited for that role. Want to trade or do mining? Why don't you use a type 6?
@@creucreusator56 Nah in this one particular instance he's right. The Asp Scout is literally never worth it. It would be better by far to purchase both a DBX and a Type 6 then grind up for a Vulture or just jump up to the good combat Medium ships (with exploring near bubble earth likes would take about a day or Type 6 trading could take less). Or just grind up to an Asp X which is a pretty good all rounder.
You mentioned having to scan enemy ships before attacking them. I'm another new player, can you give details on exactly HOW to scan them? Every little detail, don't assume I know anything.

Been enjoying these, it takes me back to when I first got into the game. Let me know if you'd like to get together in game and spend some time doing things.
Just wait until you discover how to engineer your ships. It's both the good and bad part of the game. Bgs (background sim) is a deep rabbit hole you can fall into. I have 7k hours in game. My squadron is in game and present in 60 system.
Lol yes plz use your Virgil hotas instead of the mouse . It going to be way better. Cobra mk 4 is crap you didn't miss much Tips : Really important tried to never fly without be able to pay the insurance. For supercruise .the fastest way to fly it it not always in a straight line. You want to get close of planet or stars. So if your target is being a planet you may want to tried do a big loop . Also you go full throttle. Until your at 7sec aways from you destination. Once you hit 7sec you throttle down to the middle of the blue bar and your should arrive at your destination at the perfect speed to disengage Ships weight do change your lightyear jump rang a lot. In the equipment all part are categorized biz size and class. Class A b c are like you expect. A better then b then c. But class D is the lightweight version. E is just je crap version.

EXACTLY! And I've spent over $25k on SC... yet I keep coming back to ED

Glad you enjoyed the video, I grew found of ED by the day.
Cannot agree more. Flight assist "off" is a game changer. HCS Voice Packs is yet another one as is a good HOTAS 😊😊
"Newtonian physics" is a little bit of a stretch, but it's as close as the engine can get.
I started playing about 26 months ago, in that time I have logged over 8500 hours, and I am still learning/seeing new things all the time.
amazing!
@@Foxyloxy.X Keep the videos coming, I really enjoy watching you learn the game :)
Thanks for the tips

Friendship Drive, love it! I'll start calling it that too.
o7 CMDR now you are in a game for whole life, see you in da black

17:14 and that you have a rebuy... Never fly without a rebuy.
Ex.
If you have 5 thousand credits, and you have 1 thousand rebuy on current ship, then you never, NEVER spend more than 4 thousand credits, unless you get more of them in the meantime.
If you die in a ship without a rebuy - unless you get a loan - you had just lost that ship. It's gone. Forever.
Very important tip, thx
I started playing when the game was released and still going 8000 hrs +. Been through all the changes. Love it to this day.
Many modules are not available in the beginner areas... also, the website Inara is critical to finding the outfitting you need.
Inara is awesome, thx!
Wow, I can't wait to do that. Thx for letting me know
Just be very very careful not to die on your way back to "bubble" (area of the galaxy where human colonized star systems are) or you are gonna loose all. I suggest doing it in solo play mode, as there are gankers too on game.
Really enjoying following your journey discovering ED. It is a really special game I’m so happy you are enjoying it.
Not inhabited is not the same as "not habitable." A big part of exploration is finding those super rare "earthlike" planets in uninhabited space for potential future habitation.
I see. That is indeed exciting to explore.
It sounds like he needs to learn how to jump from star to star and has been trying to super cruise to the next star.
I was wondering if you will still enjoy ED after a week, and I'm glad to hear that you do.
I saw your message in game, I thought those are from the NPCs...lol And thanks, my discord is 1uke_Skywalker#1850, you can add me.
The tutorial in the basic game (maybe pre-Horizon) covers diverting power between your three primary systems.
I run ED with TrackIR 5 and HCS Voicepacks to manage the ship with voice commands, it’s like having a co-pilot and 5 other crew mates!
ED does not have a guided story, but there is plenty of lore, if you are interested in that. Good luck!
Loving your videos man. I've been playing since early 2021, hooked! You can include an on-foot element, through Elite Dangerous: Odyssey 👍🏻
Thanks for the pro tips
true, but fa off is not very recommended for new commanders that havent even got that used to even flying their ship normally.
@@alexzk3 If you are referring to relative mouse on/off, then yes fa off is much easier, but it requires more desk space so you can move around
According to ED fandom wiki, "As of Jan 2022, only 0.05% of the galaxy, or exactly 222,083,678 unique star systems, had been explored"
TIP: When you discover a new star system and scan it "fully", when you return back to the bubble (= civilisation / where you are right now) and sell the data, your name is permanently added next to it for others to see ;)
This is nuts. Even with much bigger player base it would barely scrap at 1%. Makes me think how huge our galaxy is.
this is amazing!
This is a wonderful tip, thanks!
The Voyager space probe is even modeled and present in elite dangerous, you need the system permit for the Sol system to go there, but it's there.
this is awesome
You'll find pitching to be a lot easier when you move your throttle gauge into the blue zone. Also becomes much easier with upgraded and engineered thrusters.
👍
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and all these resources, they most useful!
Nice, glad to have another content creator for this great game! I started on the console and that experience sucked as there just isn't enough input to control things properly, or enjoyably. I switched to PC and got a Virpil alpha and that opened up things a lot and it's been a blast since. Looks forward to more of your adventures!
yeah this game definitely needs HOTAS
I had a whole triple Elite life on the PS4. As VR never came to the Playstation, I switched to PC. I didn't bother to transfer anything. I started fresh in a stock Sidewinder, now in VR. I almost shit my pants pulling the trigger on my first Anaconda in a High Resource Site. My recommendation: if you can afford it, get a Hotas and go VR. There is currently nothing that compares to Elite Dangerous. You will appreciate the different ships so much more than looking at very similar controls all the time on a flat screen.
indeed
Welcome aboard Commander and you're in for a fabulous time. If you have the space get a HOTAS and head-tracking (there a few free ones for webcam).
Thank you!
a nice few tips while travelling:
- unless you want to stop at stations and refuel all the time (checking beforehand if systems are populated) make sure you install a fuel scoop on your optional internals so you scoop the hydrogen stars eject to refuel
"but what stars can i refuel from? can i refuel from all of them?" you might ask, the answer is simple!
- in case you havent done this, in the map, on the left side you can change your route settings, by default it's on economical which saves a lot of fuel but will make you take a long route of small jumps to reach the destination, change it so it's a quicker path (beware of your fuel, hence the tip above)
- if the route path is a continuous line, you'll make it with the fuel you have, if at some point it's segmented lines (- - - - - -) it means you wouldn't have enough fuel to make it from there on, make sure you've refueled before you reach said line! always better to have as much fuel as possible because you could run out of fuel in supercruise too!
fly safe friend o7
Thank you so much for the detailed tips and they are most needed, will definitely help me travel. Appreciated!

Congrats I guess
Congratulations to your newborn. 🎊
@@NietoKT thank you sir appreciate that

Many of us use Voice attack and HCS Voice Packs along with Elite Dangerous to give verbal commands. Look into it and make your game that much more enjoyable. The one commander who suggested "Night Vision" was me. Thanks for the kudos :)
Thanks for the "Night Vision", and will definitely look into theHSC Voice Packs as well
Such a good video.))) For me, who have...
That is amazing role play. I have exceeded your insurance claim after 3 weeks into the game....lol
Haha - in love how you started coming up with a story why the planet wasn’t there. I’m sure the answer what happened to the planet was given below. ❤
Once you start to engineer your ship then it will become like your very own millennium falcon .
I see, can't wait to get that started
But be careful there are missions in each category which are dangerous try avoid them at first (wanted passengers, illegal transport goods in the aimed system, etc.)
You should pay attention for improving your ship especially if you love danger (fe. :-)
These are such great advices, much appreciated!
Taking this in the order of your video:
1) You’ll find that you need to do a lot of external studying to get all you can from ED.
“Normal” (sub-light), “Supercruise” (near-light to approx 200x light), and “Witchspace” (jumping between solar systems at 1000’s of times light)
8) ED has one of the steepest learning curves out there because it just doesn’t explain most things to you.
(Or visit the Nav Beacon in inhabited systems)
16) Yes, the game is dynamic.
Sometimes you can buy the system data from the galaxy map too. o7 :)
So i learned thx!
I also use an authorised third party program called voice attack for verbal controls.
at the end of this video, i saw you trying the fighter, i saw that you have one with AX Multicannons, those AX Weapons are only effective against alien ships, and probrably useless against human ships, keep that in mind
also is nice to see you having fun with this game, i played for almost 1000 hours already, i really like elite dangerous.
Thanks for the pro tips. I need book mark your comment so I can go back when I need it.
If you can't find a system with the FSS circle-clicking minigame for inhabited systems then you can go to the Nav Beacon, target it, and point your ship at it for a few seconds and it will populate your full system body list.
thx for this tip.
See more here: th-cam.com/video/sguryN2QFS0/w-d-xo.html
If you think _this_ is a lot to take in, wait until you start looking at Engineering to modify some of your ship's components to increase jump range, increase speed, increase armor, or modify weapons. That's a whole other rabbit hole.
o7 Commander. Good luck.
Thank you for the video, very helpful for beginners like me.
After I played ED, I have to admit that painful fact.
o7 CMDR, carry on.
It's wild to me how empty this vast 1:1 sim of the Milky Way is.
And yes, you can use a HOTAS in elite. I also use Virpil, they make awesome gear.
@@mzyil Not all systems have "honker"!? What the hell are you talking about!?
@@timppaUT honking doesn't give you all planets, that's what I'm talking about. Unless you are doing discovery, which is literally finding planets 1 by 1. Even in a previously discovered system. Because you don't have the cartography, which you can buy. Do you even read before writing a reply?
@@mzyil From ED wiki:
"The Discovery Scanner is an integrated scanner module used to instantly identify all astronomical objects within an uncharted star system."
Go away, troll, and instead YOU should learn to read!
Elite Dangerous in VR is next level!
Places that they sell things don't really change that much if at all. There's just so many different places that you can buy the different things that you thought you remembered going there but you didn't. We've all(Elite Dangerous Players) been there, as far as thinking that we had been somewhere before, that really we haven't/weren't.
When talking about the star systems I have about 50 earth like planets I got first discovery on so I have my name on them forever. :)
that is awesome
I changed mouse x-axis to yaw, and w and d to roll, much, MUCH, better. (Q/E left right strafe)
Anaconda for exploration, 80ly jump range, nothing better, unless you have a carrier.
@@no1baggiefan An Anaconda's also 100+ million. And it's in the range of 250 million to Exploration outfit w/o engineering. There's a big difference between being the best jump range and a good exploration craft. The DBX is as capable and VASTLY cheaper to outfit.
@@GuidingOlive 100m, thats one hours work lol
It's slower than the Mk III without being better at anything except perhaps mining, and there are plenty of better mining ships you can buy (Python or Krait Mk II for example).
good to know thx
Step one: Spend that $25-$35 on a logitech extreme 3d pro. Not the absolute BEST stick on the market but absolutely WORTH picking up for the price.
Step Two: Voice Attack/ HCS Voicepacks. The HCS is mainly just voiceovers like a Star Trek computer but comes with good presets for Voice Attack. Being able to control your take offs, landings, gear, shields and WAY more with just your voice...omg game changer.
Step 3: VR Headset, I myself haven't reached this step yet, but I hear there is really no substitute for immersion. Kind of pricey yet but I think the Occulus Rift 2($299??) may work here, not a HAVE to have but you can use it on other sims to justify it ;)
ED is as wide as an ocean but as deep as a puddle
I find it far easier to use Q and E to roll. It makes the mouse controls far more manageable. Check the distance to the delivery point before you take the mission to avoid long in system hauls. You can buy all upgrades and ships in the Brestla system. You should start using Inara, it's an invaluable tool and will open the game for you. My first week was confusion and frustration!
The thing is you very rarely strafe so A and D for roll is more appropriate

You can’t change -pitch yaw roll in supercruise speed
One question... 4:56 is this your ship? Or have you just found footage of it online?
How to say it to you...
ASP scout is the MOST USELESS ship in the entire game. Whatever you want to do with it - there's better ship to do it in his price range.
Want to explore? Use a Diamondback. Want to Fight? Well then vulture is much more suited for that role. Want to trade or do mining? Why don't you use a type 6?
My advice: sell asp scout and never buy it again
@@NietoKT Just fly the ships you like, efficiency is nothing aside from the fun you have.
My own footage , I am trying out each new ships, and I do agree, the ASP scout is kinda useless now I tried it.
You need a permit to visit Sol :(
You can travel faster by using neutron stars highway.
Don't use mouse control for roll
👍
You mentioned having to scan enemy ships before attacking them. I'm another new player, can you give details on exactly HOW to scan them? Every little detail, don't assume I know anything.
Target the ship, then the scan animation will start spinning. You can buy an additional scanner to get additional info and increase the bounty.
@@raymobula and what if the animation doesn't start (it doesn't)? What does the animation look like? Do I need a particular scanner? Does it need to be in a fire group? Do I need to be in a certain range? Do I need to be facing them?
@@TomLentz don't need any specific modules. Target the ship, point your nose towards them, and you'll hear a sound effect begin. In you look on the lower left of your screen, you will see additional information start to appear about the ship you've targeted.

Will do thank you so much!
You brought an Asp Scout?! You really haven't done your research!!
🤣
Wait you have a virpil and you playing with mouse and keyboard?? Elite is amazing with a HOTAS, you should set that up asap
yes indeed, already got that set up
Look up neutron highway for elite dangerous
Just wait until you discover how to engineer your ships. It's both the good and bad part of the game. Bgs (background sim) is a deep rabbit hole you can fall into. I have 7k hours in game. My squadron is in game and present in 60 system.
Lol yes plz use your Virgil hotas instead of the mouse . It going to be way better.
Cobra mk 4 is crap you didn't miss much
Tips :
Really important tried to never fly without be able to pay the insurance. Grinding a fancy ship and buying as soon as you can and loosing to crashing into the station will make you go back to the sidewinder if you cannot pay the insurance cost.
For supercruise .the fastest way to fly it it not always in a straight line. You want to get close of planet or stars. So if your target is being a planet you may want to tried do a big loop . Also you go full throttle. Until your at 7sec aways from you destination. Once you hit 7sec you throttle down to the middle of the blue bar and your should arrive at your destination at the perfect speed to disengage
Ships weight do change your lightyear jump rang a lot. In the equipment all part are categorized biz size and class. Class A b c are like you expect. A better then b then c. But class D is the lightweight version. E is just je crap version.
I see, thanks for the tips, especially the supercruse traveling.
And yes, you can use your virpils with Elite
Enjoying ur videos you actually got me to redownload elite again
I love this game
I own a Cobra IV - it’s ok, and needs a lot of engineering to make it work. 😅
get a diamondback scout its got the best range jump for a small ship an then once you get money or your first mining ship you will be able to afford bigger ships o7 Commander
how do you have 20m credits with a week of play time
Recommend using HOTAS rather than KB/M. It's a far better experience.
Thx, already got that sorted and yes indeed, far better experience.
Never fly with out a re-buy
