  • First off sorry about the weird camera angle. But other then that I thought the video had good enough content that it was worth the stupid camera angle.
    Alright so this is my take on a new rifle that I got intended to be a very light gun that I will be carrying through the woods. Not only that but also kind of a every mans rifle.

    I have the stainless version with a nikon 1-4x20 power scope on it and handles incredibly fast in deep woods. Took a nice buck this year with it.

    I hve a Compact in 223. Great little rifle, fits in the lock drawer in the back of my Nissan GQ 4WD Station Wagon. Accurate as all get out as well. I'm thinking of getting one in 308W and flogging off my other bolt rifles.

    I have the 308 compact and it was really accurate as soon as I got it on paper it’s sighted in and ready to go for hunting season. Some people think it’s the youth model when it’s really I can see the 243 being a youth gun but the 308 is just basically a lighter shorter barrel which I like especially being in the brush.

    Got the 30-06 22" barrel. Can shoot a 1.25" group at 100 yards with a decent rest (Sand Bags) off of a table. Federal 165 Grain polymer tip. If I had a good lead sled rest, I bet I could get at or under 1 MOA. Solid gun. Would definitely recommend. Especially for the price.

      I have the 308 compact size. I do not used any sandbags or bipod . I used what I can and what is handle around me if any. I have a great leupold scope about 900 dollars. It is very accurate with an inch groupings using 762x51 or 308 up to 185 grain. I have change also to Boyds wood stock beautiful rifle. I can put a bullet in same whole if I would to use all that stuff like bipod and sandbags to make it perfect steady but when u use nothing but ur body it is so difficult speaccy at 100 yards and I use a tiny red dot small as a dime as my bulls eyes so that tells you it is a a great rifle. I'm not expert at shooting and the flinching gets the best of me but I'm working on is just the caliber when it surprises u the first shot u body tends to anticipate the next shot and makes u kind of flight or stff

    Let's go PENS!!!!! You got a thumbs up just for that. No problems with eye relief with that rifle bro? Just asking because of the slightly decreased LOP. Im wanting one in 7mm08 (little less recoil due to rotator cuff injury and I always liked the old 7mm mauser). What's recoil like on that rifle anyways? I have the ruger predator in 6.5 creedmore 22 inch barrel and its a pussycat in terms of recoil but it feels like im carrying a howitzer through the cypress swamps down here where at best you got a 100 to 200 yard shot. I busted one last year with the 6.5 at like 40 yards it killed it deader than a damn hammer though.

    • @decklanburkhart8113
      @decklanburkhart8113  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry about the late reply! Recoil isn't bad at all! Might notice a little on the bench but when hunting it's truly not bad. Regarding the eye relief though, my scope I did have to move a little further than I normally do, luckily vortex has a slight longer (normal) eye relief than some other companies so it's works out!

    People think it’s youth just because the barrel is shorter 😂 dude this thing kicks pretty good and around where I live your not hunting anything over 100 yards took it out to sight it in last month before hunting season and it was accurate as all hell love it I got a cheap bushnell on it but next year I’m getting a leuopold put on it. And probably getting a muzzle break I love it because it’s compact, lightweight, accurate and doesn’t get snagged as often walking through the brush ect.

      cordelmar no I did not. I have heard a lot of good things about the 7mm-08 but I wanted to stick with 308 being we reload that as of now. Not to mention I already have one and just need to get ammo for fewer calibers if it do that. Something about having a lot of ammo for fewer calibers then some for many calibers I like a lot.

      Out of all my 308 rifles the compact is the least accurate rifle I own. Hand loads with a 180 grain Nosler BT are the most accurate out o this short gun with a 1.658" group @ 100. Defiantly a short range gun. Ruger didn't stick a feather in their hat with the American series.

    • @decklanburkhart8113
      @decklanburkhart8113  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johncombs4858 I have the opposite experience with mine. I have shot them in 308, 30-06 and 223 and all are rather accurate, however I will admit you gotta really find the ammo that shoots well in some of them. The great thing about the 308 family is that barrel length doesn't affect velocity much at all. There is a video you can check on here that will show that very thing very well. Really like your setup.

    How's the felt recoil with such a light 308 rifle?

    • @SuAmigoElilegal
      @SuAmigoElilegal ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have same rifle and I did upgrade mines into a boyds wood stock. It is beautiful with a great 900 dollars leupold scope with incredible accuracy. No bipod ,no sandbags, just on the bench or prone ,whatever u can use to laid that rifle the scope gives this rifle an inch grouping. I set a small circle paper at 100 yards with a bulls eyes as a dime size or smaller and I can almost hit dead center . As far recoil for me it is a bit harsh specially because I use 185 grain and when it had that plastic stock it was a bit worse but then again I use it alot at the range so once u shot more than 5 rounds it becomes heavy recoil but if ur goin to the woods for hunting ,one shot is not goin to bother one,at the end u want a powerful shot to take down ur target and go home

      For many people a 1 moa gun is excellent. Most people can't shoot 1 moa. Either way 1.3" group at 100 yards is a kill box hit on just about anything out to 400 yards.. if you want a tack driver you shouldn't get a 308 compact of any model. 👍

    • @usmc200971

      Decklan Burkhart I have a Remington 700 5R .308 20” barrel that shoots 1/8” groups at 100. 1.3” groups at 100, translates to 5.2” groups at 400, with that amount of inconsistency it leaves a lot of room for missed shots and non lethal hits on target. Not to mention wind drift affecting the bullets path. 1.3” groups still isn’t 1 MOA. I have a tac driver that is a compact .308. Anyone can shoot a 1 MOA group with proper fundamentals and a can do attitude. I guess I’m not happy with a rifle that can’t put a round in a tics ass at 500. At 500 yards I’m still under 1” with a compact .308.
